hi folks welcome back now in the windiest place in all of hong kong thank you for your feedback on video one no surprise there was some comments hello on the autofocus commentary that i made a couple of things that jump out of that first of all keep in mind i'm answering viewer questions i'm not saying that this should perform in any particular way or that you shouldn't buy it if it doesn't perform in a certain way but i think it's breathtakingly arrogant when people sit at home and claim to either know what the engineer designed this to do or to tell other people how they should want to use their equipment first of all you don't know what it was designed to be made for fuji have pages dedicated to using these cameras for sports i don't think that they're only meant to be used in studio secondly if someone has saved up all this money and is looking to invest thousands of dollars into a camera system and they're curious to find out what its limitations are to see if it could be an all-in-one for the kind of work they do pull your head in that's their decision and just calm down a little bit there's no need to have a little fragile glass heart about all of this if it suits your needs fine we're not saying what it should do we're just seeing what it's able to do now as i said in the last video i wanted to just make sure i was getting the most out of the autofocus system so thanks to my buddy sil who's in fuji gfx shooter who put me in touch with a page michael clark photo who's a professional sports photographer who has a whole list of the different settings to set to get the most out of these cameras for sports now i went through it i actually had all of them done one or two of them though had a couple of options that he suggested trying i'm gonna go through and just be completely thorough to make sure that i have tested all the variables on this reminding you pre-production camera and then we'll get into some more viewer requests [Music] [Music] okay so this time following the advice of that action photographer i'm going to try both zone and wired modes and try with the different uh tracking variables that you have i did that already the first time around but i didn't use the zone mode as much so i'm going to do that this time [Music] okay so having spent the afternoon running through all the different options i would say it works quite well in zone continuous autofocus with mechanical shutter boost mode high or low speed with tracking a focus priority rather than release priority and having the boost mode to auto focus it's doing quite well it's definitely by far the best of the different options that i tried no it's not anywhere near a canon nikon or sony mirrorless camera i wouldn't expect it to but this is just for your information keep in mind that when you use zone rather than wide or one of the other modes you have quite a small square that you need to keep your subject in and once you've started taking a burst you can't move that around so basically you have to keep your point of interest in the same point in the shot if there's a way around that let me know long story short i'm impressed and there's nothing else that directly competes with this in my opinion that performs anywhere near this world for continuous auto focus one big bucks one wants to see some video samples here you go [Music] okay folks just jumping in here i am actually back from the island i have put the first video live got your feedback have some more things that i want to add in i already got some of them done at the island but there's a couple of extra things that i thought i could answer here at the desk john h photography asks he noticed with the original 100 there was lagginess when changing the settings the lcd took some time to update how's the new one no problem uh scanning through them changing from different modes changing your aperture and shutter speed it all happens pretty much instantly the only thing is if you make like a whole series of changes it doesn't keep up in a sense like if i go from f 1.7 all the way through to 22 it just kind of pauses until you finish moving and then tells you what to add it doesn't keep flickering all the way through but no problem there's no lags anymore rob senior wants to see low light performance dynamic range and and dynamic range at low and high isos now i did those tests whilst i was out shooting for a different project yesterday i was shooting from half an hour before sunrise till after sunset i was using uh six stop nd filters in the middle of the day for non-moving objects like me on a tripod focusing on some rocks it didn't have problem focusing in any of those situations i think in low light it's going to be totally fine now in terms of dynamic range and iso let's take a look at some images [Applause] [Music] when i'm shooting with any camera i try to keep the iso as low as possible and with a camera like this with such a density of pixels on the sensor for me iso 1600 would be a high iso in terms i think of how i would use it in all different applications jumping it in post i am going through the images now i ended up with hundreds and hundreds of shots my intention was to go through take a look at the raw files show them to you i intentionally shot some landscapes several stops underexposed so then i could boost that up show you how the dynamic range is and if we're seeing any of the phase detect auto focus uh point banding that the gfx 100 did have now before i i have a couple of things i have to clear up here let me just show you a couple of different shots here at different isos almost all the shots i took on this trip were right down at iso 100 but i did get a few different ones here here we go at iso 500 800 and here's a couple of my cats at 3 200 and then all the way up at iso 10 000. now my intention to show you those raw files the raw files because the cameras just been released aren't actually readable but fuji x-raw studio allows you to work with them so that was my intention to then change them into tiff or whatever i could or just work with them in this app to show you the results i didn't realize however and that's on me that this software requires you to have the camera plugged in and i've already returned it so it's essentially you have the photos on your hard drive but then it needs the actual camera that took them plugged in and then it's sending the raw file back to the camera the camera processes it according to your specifications and then sends it back again so not having the camera i can see the previews but i can't do anything with them ridiculous and i don't think it's reasonable to be looking at dynamic range or how are the banding or any of those things until i actually have the access to the full raw files you never know what's been done to the jpeg even those ones that i just showed you before may have had some noise reduction put on them even though i set it to off there's more raw processing goes on than you would realize when you're at saving a jpeg and they're obviously at a much lower bit rate so we just cannot judge the quality having said that now that i have so many fantastic files as soon as i'm able to get in a copy of the camera final one hopefully i'll be doing more testing so leave me your questions on what you'd like to see in that video and we'll go through and look at that in more detail but i can say i wouldn't expect a big difference from in performance from this to the original 100 but in the jpegs that i looked at i did still notice some pdaf banding in the images but it wasn't really pronounced but that's the jpeg a lot of people asked about the batteries and how is it with this smaller battery now whilst it is smaller it's actually almost exactly the same size as the current nikon battery slightly different pin placement and that and the sony and the nikon all have pretty much exactly the same total capacity in power coming in around 16 watt hours so it's not an insignificant battery it's just smaller and i can't really comment on this because i wasn't trying to run them out throughout i saw this comment after i got back but i can say even with a long day of shooting mostly long exposures and then a little bit of video here and there i didn't exhaust a single battery i took two spares i didn't need them so i wouldn't say it's a battery hog but that's nothing conclusive and maybe my favorite question d johnson can you try the gfx100s with the zeiss otis lenses will they cover the sensor now i can tell you yes the 85 for sure and above in focal lengths do 55 pretty close um essentially it's going to come down to your focal length it does vary lens to lens and yes the oldest do seem to throw a bigger circle than a lot of other lenses but i would say anything from about 70 mil up is likely to cover this because it isn't that much bigger than full frame keep that in mind again i'm not trying to start a war here but it's it's bigger than full frame but it's not significantly bigger so getting an adapter i have adapters for everything this one is a photodiox pro and they make them for all different mounts but this one will actually give me aperture control even on a g lens it doesn't have an aperture dial it has one on the back here so i can manually adjust the aperture pretty cool now this is the 58 mil f 1.4 which then is going to become incredibly fast but fully manual focus but then if you're using uh it will still meter and everything fine so let me get some little test shots on this one i can tell you it has a light vignette but not too bad i've actually shot this combo with the old 100 with the uh 75 mil knock deluxe from leica the f 1.25 which becomes i don't know something like a 65 f 1.1 or something like that exceptionally fast and a beautiful rendition and longer lenses as i said give you better coverage that means we can even do this and get my favorite lens the 200mm f2 now this is gonna be a chunk um and adapt it to this camera how cool is that and with the 0.8 crop factor we're going to be looking at around about 160 mil f 1.6 oh yes uh in terms of its depth of field not so much in its light catching capabilities so i'll try and get some shots of the cats around the house with this one um i have to return this camera uh in just a couple of hours to fuji hong kong thanks to them again for the loner but i'll try and get a couple of test shots here and show you the results oh just look at that it's enough to make a grown man go weak at the knees [Music] okay to here ian s asks how's the viewfinder especially for spectacle wearers and also christian schrockel asks how's the evf compared to the 100 now i don't have the original 100 here to compare them side by side and to be honest to do a comparison like that to say this is more or this is less you really need to have them side by side otherwise i'm doing it based on my memory of having used it over a year ago this however is a fixed viewfinder you can't switch it out whereas the original 100 you could so potentially five years down the track when we're using 15 megapixel viewfinders you could slide that on and still have it function this is completely fixed it is a lower resolution i didn't find it laggy i didn't find it a problem really in terms of shooting either it's nice and responsive the sensor for when you want to use it no issues with my glasses either having said it didn't really it wasn't a problem it also just wasn't outstanding you know sometimes you use a camera like wow the viewfinder on this is amazing i didn't have that feeling with this but i also didn't have a or this is too small or too dark or too low detail it was just fine would that's probably the one thing that if i could you know have my wish list that they would just improve on this would be to include a much higher resolution ovf or evf sorry i would prefer that but i understand they need to segment the models anime editor asks he's concerned about losing the exposure comp dial on his 50 r uh this doesn't have an exposure compensation dial but it still does have an exposure compensation button that you just push down and then scroll the wheel and you can adjust your exposure compensation that way i don't think there is an option to assign that function to another button they're fairly customizable but looking through the menus i couldn't find that option to put exposure from somewhere after all it's printed on the button speaking buttons charles wolfe asks you that in my gfx 100 review i mentioned that the buttons were of poor quality for such a expensive professional camera is the 100s better in this regard i would say overall yes um i mentioned in the last video the af on button i think could be bigger and more pronounced maybe just like the menu button that's down below that would be a great size and shape for it but the dials it's kind of like the viewfinder to be honest they don't feel like exceptional you know sometimes you pick up a camera like say uh this won't be everyone's cup of tea but like an sl2 or basically a leica camera and all those little details do they add up to the price well most people know but they do nail those little details and they feel really high quality this just feels fine like an xh2 or something like that no problem certainly doesn't jump out as being as plasticky and poorly done as the 100. there was other finishing issues on that camera as well though but overall this is just fine okay harold olay asks if the 80 mil has flaws or character he further clarified that he'd read a fuji ambassador saying that it has character like an old lens and this harold was curious if that means it's had some flaws engineered into it for that purpose i'm gonna go out especially to shoot just with this one for the rest of the afternoon get more sample shots and share you with you my thoughts i have to say i was really impressed by the 80mm lens i think it's beautifully sharp has great contrast has a really nice soft fall away in the outer focus areas i don't see this old-fashioned character that the viewer was asking about or flaws i think it's a great modern well-designed and actually quite good value lens now the final question that a lot of people have been asking and wondering is am i going to buy one of these cameras and what are my overall thoughts do i think that you should buy one i've set it 57 000 times already that was a pre-production camera but if you're waiting to see are there any fatal flaws that you know are showing that it isn't performing the way we would expect being that great sensing in a smaller more ergonomic body i would say no there's nothing that stood out to me as being an issue if on paper all you wanted was that sensor in a smaller body with great grip and everything and improved buttons you've got it it's a winner for myself i'm still not sure i am in a very fortunate position thanks to all of you that i'm able to get access to loaners like this so i want to do some more testing for myself i can see that there would be some applications where this will do uh things better than my z7 mark ii potentially does but i'm quite sure that there's things that the z72 does better as well and the higher resolution isn't a need for me by any means i still do really love being at the bleeding edge of tech however so i'll be getting it back in to do some more testing for myself one body and three lenses you're looking at over twelve thousand dollar investment so it's not an insignificant decision i'd love to hear your thoughts and let me know if there's more uh questions you have potentially from the files that i have and the video footage that i've already taken i can answer some more of the old questions for you last little thing i hope you enjoyed that teaser for the new kink photo shoot with steph you can check that out below and i'm also on clubhouse and i'm thinking to start doing some talks over there so you'll find my details in the description below if you're on there follow me and then when we open a room and start chatting you can get involved that should be really fun thanks again to fuji hong kong for the loner thank you all for your feedback and interaction on these videos i'll see you soon i wish i wish i wish i owned all this game and i had boys show the press
