hi guys it's oh thank you um let's see wait i'm i'm all i'm all confused does that confuse me we are in uh genesis chapter six this morning and uh we're gonna finish up the chapter i have uh basically one more thing that i wanted to do before i got out of that and really got into chapter seven we've been going through the book of genesis uh verse by verse and we've been talking about the genesis flood um and uh again when we're when we're looking at what the bible has to say about uh science and life and where we came from and all that kind of stuff it's different than the philosophy uh that the world comes up with so we're going to talk a little bit about that depending on how far um on how far i get i'm going to i'm going to cut things short a little bit because not for you guys but second service is going to be cooking and so i have to i have to try to even it up uh for everybody and so um that's what we're gonna do i'm trying to cover my phone because my phone always goes dead because it gets too hot up here not that i'm complaining i used to work in the heat so good grief just do the clock stop it okay genesis chapter six let's go through and read it real quick we're not going to read the whole chapter i want to i want to start um where we started last week down in verse 8 it says uh but noah found grace in the eyes of the lord this is the genealogy of noah noah was a just man perfect in his generations noah walked with god and noah begot three sons shem ham and japheth the earth also was corrupt before god and the earth was filled with violence so god looked upon the earth and indeed it was corrupt for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth and god said to noah the end of all flesh has come before me for the earth is filled with violence through them and behold i will destroy them with the earth make yourself an ark of gopher wood make rooms in the ark covered out inside and outside with pitch why would they cover it inside when you when you pitch a boat you pitch it on the outside you don't pitch it on the inside if you if you got pitch on the inside what's going to happen is your if your pitch fails on the outside the pitch on the inside isn't going to do anything because the water is just going to blow through it so why pitch it on the inside and some people think that it's a preservative you've probably heard of the references to people actually seeing the ark or parts of the ark on mount ararat and some people think that there's a good possibility that the reason that god had him pitch it all over is because pitch is a preservative in fact this is this is asphalt pitch basically and so pitch is a preservative and they uh they think that uh god may have been preserving the ark for a latter times revelation of the fact that the flood was really happened in any case verse 15 it says this is how you shall make it the length of the ark shall be 300 cubits it's 450 feet roughly it's width 50 cubits 75 feet and it's height 30 cubits 45 feet tall you shall make a window for the ark and you shall finish it to a cubit from above and set the door of the ark in its side you shall make it with lower second and third decks and behold i myself am bringing flood waters on the earth to destroy from under heaven all flesh and which is the breath of life everything that is on the earth shall die but i will establish my covenant with you and you shall go into the ark you and your sons your wife and your and your wife and your sons wives with you and of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you they shall be male and female of the birds of the after their kind of animals after their kind and of creeping things of the earth after its kind two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive and you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten and you shall gather it to yourself and it shall be food for you and for them and that's noah did according to all that god commanded him so he did let's pray for the service father we again thank you for your word thank you lord for the the fact that you have a heart that saves um and even lord when the world gets as bad as it can get you still have a heart um that reaches out to preserve uh the the good preserve the righteous preserve the innocent lord especially when you're talking about the animals and so lord as we're going through and looking at your word in this passage and how it relates to jesus father we just pray that you would be speaking to our hearts and you do a work in us we ask this in jesus name amen one of the things that you have in uh the new testament is a situation that comes up uh pretty routinely with what are called types of christ and i know that there there's a bunch of people coming to our fellowship now that have gone to different churches and so i don't want to assume that you know what i'm talking about when i'm talking about types and so i'm not i'm not condescending here and i'm not talking down to you i just don't know what you know and so in the in the bible we have obvious types of jesus and so one of the most obvious is sacrifice and so jesus is the sacrificed lamb right and so he is our passover is what paul says so you can go through the passover sacrifice and you can look at all kinds of different things in the passover that are pointing straight to jesus obviously a lamb that's been slain john the baptist said this is the land that takes away the sin of the world and so when we look at sacrifice in the old testament it was a picture of the sacrifice that jesus was going to make at the cross right and that's type that's what a type is it's kind of a model another really famous type is uh in genesis chapter 22 where abraham offers his son isaac up as a sacrifice god tells him to do this whole thing it takes him three days to get to the place there are two other guys involved in the story uh the two guys get left behind the father the son go to the top of the hill and the sun is burying the wood for the for the sacrifice he goes here's the fire here's the wood where's the the lamb for the sacrifice and abraham says god will provide himself the lamb and that can be translated god will pride him provide himself as the lamb for the sacrifice really cool thing uh at the end of the whole the whole story abraham says in the mountain of the lord this place that we just did this sacrifice this will be seen or it will be seen talking about the future and the fact that the sacrifice of jesus was going to take place in precisely the same mountain in the same place that the sacrifice of or the offering up of isaac was uh was done isaac wasn't offered he he didn't end up being a sacrifice there was a replacement which was not a lamb it was a ram the lamb hasn't hadn't come yet right a type and it gets even more intense than that and so we have types um all the way through the book of genesis some of them i haven't done yet there's a there's a type of the gospel in genesis chapter one it's very very cool thing in any case i wanted to go through the type of christ in uh noah uh in noah in this passage and so let's go through and i'm just gonna i'm gonna throw a bunch of verses out at you if you're taking notes um you can write these things down i'm not going to make you turn to all these places because we're going to we're going to be all over the place but i just want to i want to hit some things and so when you look up at chapters uh five um in uh verse 29 it says and he called his name noah saying this one will comfort us concerning our work into the toil of our hands because of the ground which the lord is cursed and then it goes on and says that noah lived uh a certain amount of time and had sons the word noah itself means rest means rest and so that's interesting by the way i didn't i i missed a couple of things before i went on here jesus in the new testament in john chapter 5 was talking to the pharisees this is one of my favorite passages i i quoted all the time because i'm always witnessing to people about who jesus is and they always like to try to say that he's something less than what he said he was they they say he's a great teacher they say he's a great religious leader that kind of thing but i don't believe that he's god i don't believe you know he may be the son of god but he's not god and those are nonsensical statements and most people when they make them they don't know that they're making a nonsensical statement but in that passage in john chapter five he ups the ante with these guys and he doesn't let them believe that he's just a man and at the end of the whole argument he says you search the scriptures for in them you think that you have life and they are they which testify of me and what jesus was saying in the in the passages you're going through the old testament you're looking at all these passages you you think that your life is wrapped up in this and salvation is found in this and what you don't know is that all of those verses all those passages are talking about me in the book of hebrews in chapter 10 it says in the volume of the book it's been written about me and it's a quote um from jesus in that passage it's as if jesus is speaking there and so again when you look in the old testament you're going to see these pictures of christ in fact when you're going through the old testament and something's weird and you're like why is god making distinctions here um why is this being stated what is going on here the first thing you need to start looking for is jesus and the and the sacrifice of christ on the cross sometimes the resurrection um if you see the phrase three days anytime you see the phrase three days start looking because how long was jesus in the grave three days and three nights and a lot of times those are those are resurrection passages in the old testament so in any case first thing you see here is noah's name is rest and specifically what lamex says is that god is going to comfort us because of the curse you see that again at the end of verse 29 he will comfort us concerning our work in the toil of our hands because the ground which the lord is cursed rest isaiah 11 10 in that day there shall be a root of jesse jesus came from the family of jesse jesse being the father of david who shall stand as a banner to the people for the gentiles shall seek him and his resting place shall be glorious in the new testament jesus said come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest the whole book or the whole chapter uh chapter four of the book of hebrews is about jesus being our rest and not the sabbath day that jesus is our rest and so you have that here's another thing when you look at the ministry of christ and specifically comfort uh because of the curse the bible teaches that jesus is going to come back we've been talking about this on sunday nights that jesus is going to come back and he's going to set up a kingdom and that kingdom is going to be identified by rest specifically that's what isaiah chapter 11 is talking about and so basically we've had six thousand years of human history and in those six thousand years we've had one government after another government after another government trying to bring rest to the people where perfect righteousness comes in that whole thing and it never happens it never happens it just gets harder and harder and harder and men become more and more corrupt and the the last thousand years of human history on this planet is called the millennium and it's during that time that we get a king and he's absolutely perfect and he's absolutely righteous and he brings rest to the planet that the planet's never known that by the way corresponds with the week six days of labor the last day is a day of rest and so jesus is our rest um it says down in verse 8 but noah found grace in the eyes of the lord and specifically the passage is talking about noah and noah alone he's the last guy basically and so his family comes along but noah is the one that's being centered in on and when you look at the ministry of christ that's exactly the same thing remember when god said in matthew 3 17 it's at the baptism of jesus this is my beloved son in whom i'm i'm well pleased in other passages in the new testament it says jesus is the one and only son of god and that's phrased differently in older bibles the only begotten son of god it's that kind of idea and the idea that it's jesus and jesus alone and so in this passage noah noah alone in the new testament jesus is the one in jesus alone it talks about the fact that noah was a just man in this passage in luke 23 47 it says so when the centurion saw what had happened he glorified god saying certainly this was a righteous man in another passage it talks about another phrase that he said certainly this was the son of god most likely he said both of those things this this is a righteous man this was the son of god and so you see noah being a just man rest found uh being uh singular uh being a just man and you have the same thing in the new testament it says in the passage that noah was perfect in his generations verse nine and in the new testament the bible talks about the fact that jesus is somebody that's set apart as holy perfect and the angel answered and said to her the holy spirit will come upon you and the power of the highest will overshadow you therefore also that holy one who is to be born will be called the son of god again something that's set up apart for the lord something that is higher than others hebrews 7 26 says for such a high priest was fitting for us who is holy harmless undefiled separate from sinners and has become higher than the heavens and so again you can see a picture with jesus you might not be convinced yet it just gets more convincing as you go through the whole story it talks about the fact that noah walked with god you have this fellowship between god and noah and obviously in the new testament you have an unbroken fellowship with jesus and the father in luke 2 52 it talks about the fact that jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with god and men when you see jesus come on the scene at the very first he's already schooling people he's already talking to them about their father including his mom and so you have that luke 4 4 when jesus was tempted it says that he answered and said it is written man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of god and what he's doing is he's talking about his relationship with god i don't live by bread alone satan says you're hungry you're the son of god turn this stone to bread jesus goes you know bread's not my thing here's my thing and my thing is to have fellowship with god because man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of god luke 6 12 it says now it came to pass in those days that he went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to god so you have this this situation where jesus is working during the day and he hasn't had unfettered time with god alone with the father alone and so he goes and makes it he likes being with the father and then when you go to luke 23 46 it talks about jesus's very end and it says and when jesus had cried out with a loud voice he said father into your hands i commit my spirit and having said this he breathed his last so his life was committed to god in the first place to the father in the first place his life was lived in fellowship with the father unbroken fellowship with the father and at the very end when it was time to go he goes i'm coming back to you father and that was his attitude walked with god god gave him work to do in john 17 4 jesus said i have glorified you on the earth and i finished the work with what which you have given me to do so noah was given a work and that work was saving humanity saving the world and that's exactly the same kind of work that was given to christ noah did the work alone and that where we get that from i'm putting that in quotes where we get that from is first peter 2 24 jesus in the new testament it says who himself the the idea of himself by himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree that we having died to sins might live for righteousness by whose stripes you were healed now when noah's building the ark i don't necessarily think that noah did it all by himself but when you read the text there's nobody else mentioned as being involved and so when you're when you're looking at types in the old testament it's not just what what is positively re positively written down it's what's left out that's interesting too and so it never says shem ham and japheth helped they never said that it says that noah got a bunch of contractors it never says that anybody else was involved in the building of the ark it just says that god told noah to build the ark and noah built the ark and so all the rest of that stuff's left out in you know i was talking earlier about abraham and isaac one of the things that's left out in the story of abraham and isaac is that abraham and isaac go up to the top of the hill they do the whole thing with the sacrifice isaac has saved and he doesn't have to go through it there's a ram that's that's offered uh abraham says it's going to be seen in the mountain of the lord does the whole prophetic thing and then it says and abraham went back and it doesn't tell you a word about isaac it's like isaac just got left there and so you see isaac later on in the story and so obviously went back but it never it never says abraham and his father walk down from the mountain and that kind of thing and it's it's a picture of the fact that the that the crucifixion was an end point there was a resurrection but after the resurrection came the ascension and the next thing that you see is the death of the father's wife and the next thing that you see after that is the bringing in of a bride for the son who was offered as a sacrifice and so just just wild wild stuff but some of the things that are left out are interesting there's no reference of time uh to how long it built the arc and i know that we talked about 120 years but that's not a for for sure thing i think that that's exactly what it is but i can't be dogmatic about it it looks like just noah built the ark and so was it a week was it two weeks was it 100 years was it 120 years that kind of thing we don't know for sure and so in the again in the text it looks like it was done speedily and we know that atonement for us was accomplished in one day in a day jesus takes care of the sin of humanity he talks about the fact that that noah saved his house and so you have the situation where god tells him i want you to take your household i want you to take your sons your son's wives your wife with you saved his house by faith noah being divinely warned of things not yet seen moved with godly fear prepared an ark for the savings of his household by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith um hebrews 11 says 7 says that genesis chapter 8 in verse 1 says that not only did he save his household he saved all the all the living things then god remembered noah and every living thing and all the animals that were with them in the ark and god made a wind to pass over the earth and the waters subsided and so the bible teaches that not only did jesus saved humanity but he saves the whole creation and you have that in romans 8 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of god and so when jesus dies on the cross he doesn't just die for us he dies for like literally the planet all the animals on the planet literally the universe he's delivering the whole universe from corruption um in verse 21 of chapter six it says and you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten and you shall gather it to yourself and it shall be food for you and for them and so you have noah being the provider of food specifically is jesus the provider of food for us and in a practical way yeah he takes care of us but jesus used the whole picture of bread in the bible to be a picture of who he is and so in john 6 35 it says jesus said to them i'm the bread of life he who comes to me shall never hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst that's an interesting passage because it's the it's the the passage the the stuff that takes place after the feeding of the five thousand so jesus feeds the five thousand the next day they all get up and they go looking for breakfast they come talking to jesus and they want breakfast and jesus goes what are you here for and they go well you know we're kind of here to hear the word of god and that kind of jesus because that's not what you're here for i'm paraphrasing that's not what i'm here for you're here for you're here because you got fed yesterday and he goes you need to go after the food that lasts forever and they go well in the old testament god gave moses manna and this is where jesus said i'm the bread of life i'm the one who came down from heaven i'm the manna and so jesus right there is telling you that manna is a type of jesus it's a picture of christ in the old testament and so you have that whole thing and so jesus in our lives is the one who fills us bread in this culture is the staple so in our culture the staple has become different things so when i was a kid the staple was potatoes so it was meat and potatoes now it's quinoa whatever that is you know and so we keep changing the staple but in middle eastern eastern cultures cultures it's pita bread and for good reason that stuff is good man in in any case um and the pita bread around here i i haven't found any that's anything like the stuff that you get in israel and so you guys think you know pita you don't know pita bread you know unless you've been to israel i don't often get good peter around here in any case jesus said i'm the bread of life jesus in a in uh john 6 47 through 50 he says most most assuredly i say to you he who believes in me has everlasting life i'm the bread of life your father's ate man in the wilderness and are dead this is the bread talking about himself which comes down from heaven then one may eat of it and not die and again the picture there is that you have a hunger you have a desire that can't be filled with anything else but the one who comes down from heaven everybody has a jesus shaped hole in their heart and they're trying to fill it with relationships or with power with money or with stuff you know that that kind of thing and it never fills there's a complete obedience genesis 6 genesis 6 22 it says thus noah did according to all that god commanded him so he did and so you have a complete obedience by noah you have a complete obedience by christ obviously jesus said if you can keep my commandments you will abide in my love just as i have kept my father's commandments and abide in his love and the point that jesus is making is i've done it and i've done it the way that it's supposed to be done and i've done it all he kept it completely philippians 2 8 says that being found and being found in an appearance as a man he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death even the death of the cross and so not only was his life something that exemplified obedience his death was something that exemplified obedience and so again complete obedience uh john noah not jonah noah brought all in his care to a new earth obviously they get on the ark and it's the old earth they get off the ark and things are brand new things are totally different scoured and jesus says the same thing about us it says that the saying might be fulfilled which he spoke of those whom you gave me i have lost none all in his care come into the new the new world basically um in genesis chapter 8 and verse 20 it says the noah built an altar to the lord and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar and so noah makes an altar and offers a sacrifice and obviously we have the same thing with jesus in ephesians 5 2 it says and walk in love as christ also has loved us and given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to god for a sweet-smelling aroma and so noah offers up an offering of sacrificial animals jesus offers up an offering of him himself and then you have the fact that god blessed noah and his sons and obviously we're blessed in christ we're brothers with jesus father god has become our father we're part of the family of god and god has made us oh how happy that's what blessed means oh how happy and then finally it talks about the fact that god established a covenant with noah and so if you look at chapter 9 in verses 8 and 9 check this out it says and god spoke to noah and to his sons and with him saying as for me be me behold i establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and it goes on and talks about this covenant and when it's speaking about that covenant it talks about this seven different times speaks it says it speaks about the covenant seven times what is seven in the bible yeah the number of completeness and so so seven is often connected um with the work of god and you have that in the covenant with noah and jesus obviously made a covenant with us luke 22 20 it says likewise he also took the cup after supper saying this cup is the new covenant in my blood which is shed for you that covenant is mentioned in various places in the old testament uh ezekiel chapter 36 it's mentioned in the book of jeremiah it's mentioned all through the book of genesis we're going to hit on that as we go through but the covenant with christ is something that's central to the bible and again you have this whole picture and so again a picture of the work of god noah's life and the fact that that that work is something that um uh something that pictures uh the coming of christ okay so that's my main bible study now we're gonna get to the good stuff which is all steve's weird science stuff okay and the reason that i did this is because i can break this off anytime i want it i want to and so um and of course my phone's not doing what it's supposed to be doing so there we go okay come on no i hate you there we go okay now i know what time it is okay one of the one of the things that that comes up when you talk about knowing the ark is people poo poo the whole thing and say you know there's no evidence that there was a global flood and um one of the reasons for that is because we've had this whole narrative that has been brought about for the last couple of hundred years and the the idea behind the narrative is everything that we see was done slowly over a long period of time that's called uniformitarianism and i don't want to make this a big fat science lesson but it's going to be somewhat and so um that that whole idea um you know gives gives you the idea that when you're looking at strata which is the layers of dirt in the earth when you're looking at these things that it takes millions of years for these different strata to be laid down you know what that is that's a story because you don't know how long it took to lay down the strata because you were not there it's always a story and so i can come along and tell use exactly the same evidence and tell a different story so for example have you got have you guys gone to the grand canyon anybody gone to the grand canyon raise your hands yeah they have stories all over around the grand canyon tell you telling you how long that strata took to lay down and that that kind of thing and we have evidences that it doesn't take that long for those kinds of things to happen and so we have a a few of them that took place in our area for example so when you talk about mount st helens you have a you have a situation there where there's a canyon uh coming out coming out from the area of mount st helens that was cut in four hours cut in four hours it's over a hundred and feet uh 100 feet tall uh the walls of this canyon are over 100 feet tall and it's got strata in it it's got these different layers that have been laid down and they look like sedimentary layers that have been laid down one upon one on top of another and one of the things that you have with geologists is if a geologist had come to that place and looked at it and seen that strata seen the height of the of the material that's there he would have said hundreds of thousands to millions of years to lay this stuff down but we were there and we saw it we know what was there before we know what was there afterwards and it was cut in four hours and they call this the little grand canyon because it looks like the grand canyon so you you have that obviously the scale is different you have another situation in this area that that uh is pretty famous you guys know about the missoula floods did you guys learn about this in public school that was something that was completely ridiculed when the when the theory first came out the guy uh who came up with the whole idea the geologist who came up with the whole idea of the missoula floods that happened in the 1960s back in the 1960s i grew up with this because i was in school back then i remember even in grade school being taught evolution and so everything has to happen slowly over time well you know the missoula flood it's the idea that there's a lake big old huge lake up around missoula there was a plug at the end of a dam at the end of the lake that was ice it's from the ice age and that the ice ended up melting something happened where the where the dam was breached and all this water from this lake came down and scoured out everything and so you have the potholes up further north that can only happen from the scouring action of water on rock and so you can you can go all the way uh up the columbia river and you can see sites where there were old waterfalls you can tell that the land was over uh washed over with water there are um indian legends about this whole area being a lake and the mountains around here like rattlesnake mountain popping up being islands that are coming up out of the lake these guys saw this stuff the the american indians specifically the caius tribe talk about these things and so that was something that was not allowed in geology and over a period of time what's happened is geologists have started to allow catastrophes to come in including you know large-scale events and so for example that whole thing where a comet or an asteroid hit down in southern mexico the yucatan peninsula and killed all the dinosaurs 65 million years ago not allowed not allowed nothing like that was allowed the whole time that i was a kid all the way through high school that came around in the 80s and then there was some convincing evidence for that and so it was a good way to get rid of the dinosaurs and all of a sudden that was allowed and then catastrophes have been popping up everywhere since that point okay and so um again what you what you have is a situation where we've had a couple hundred years where catastrophes were not allowed and now what's happened is geologists have been forced into a position where they have to allow some of them and i'm going to give you some evidence for these things and show you what's show you what's going on there are six evidences like really simple evidences for for the genesis flood evidence number one there are fossils of sea creatures high above sea level due to the ocean waters having flooded over the continents and so you know you go you you go around it doesn't matter where you go you can go to the top of the himalayas you can go to the top of the rockies and you're going to see fossils of sea creatures the only way that you get fossils is by rapid burial really quickly underneath water this is how you get fossils and so what you have is a situation there where the himalayas were underneath water and the rockies were underneath water and the appalachians were underneath water and the cascades were underneath water it's all over the world there's not a mountain range in the on the planet that was not underneath water now last week we talked a little bit about that and obviously again we talked about the fact that mountain ranges are relatively new whether you're talking about geological ages or whether you're talking about what the bible teaches mountain ranges are relatively new and so those areas would have been much lower or even flat before the flood and then they would have been raised up after the flood and that's the answer to how you get these things geologists will say that that happened over millions of years creationists will say that that happened relatively quickly actually radically quickly over a short period of time but it's universal okay it's universal um the other thing that i mentioned last week is that you don't have it in the sea basins you have these areas right off the right off the coasts that have sedimentary layers in the sea basins but the sea basins themselves when you get out into the deep they don't have any sedimentary layers it's totally and completely missing and all you have is lava rock it's basalt and so you know evolutionists have a real hard time explaining the sedimentary layers that we have on the earth they're well over a mile every mile deep everywhere that you look on the planet well over sometimes it's much more than a mile but well over a mile deep everywhere that you look and it's all been laid down by by ocean sediments on on vast scales right and again you don't have this now when you're looking at the ocean basins here's another thing evolutionists will say well maybe you know what what's happened is things have switched and over a period of time uh what's happened is the continents have risen up and and the ocean basins were once once the continents and they'll they'll fiddle with these things the problem is that the continents are lighter than the ocean basins they're always going to float the same continents that they're that we have now are the same comments that were there before the flood and those continents have been split up that was another one of those things that was a catastrophic type of thing that was uh pooh-poohed for a long time until the late 60s that whole idea of tectonic movements of of plates and that kind of stuff it was something that the scientific community would not accept for a long period of time but then they were forced into it and so you have a situation where the continental plates are floating on the magma that we have in the crust they can't be lower than the ocean basins the ocean basins have never been above the continents they have been more shallow than they are today and everybody agrees with that whether you're talking about geologists or whether you're talking about creationists the world before the flood for a creationist was relatively flat and the seas were shallow the world for an evolutionist before the you know the pleistocene and some of these ages that you don't care about before that before that period of time the world was relatively flat and the seas were shallow everybody agrees on this whole thing and so the seabeds have been lowered and the continents have been raised but the continents can never be the seabed again and so you have to have something that's overwashed the continents uh evidence number two rapid burial of plants and animals you you have situations where you have these dinosaur graveyards for example billions of nautiloid fossils are found in a layer within the redwall limestone of the grand canyon that layer was deposited catastrophically by a massive flow of sediment and it's mostly lime sand and it go it goes from the grand canyon all the way up into northern utah all the way back into the middle into the middle west it's it's a large scale deposit of lots of dead animals and um again it's a graveyard when you see fossils when you find fossils they're most often in graveyards they've been washed into the place where they've been deposited and this stuff has to happen rapidly has to happen rapidly because again you don't get a fossil just by you know killing something and throwing it into the river uh if you kill something throw it in into the river it dies in the river what's going to happen is it's going to bloat it's going to float the fish are going to eat it they're going to tear it apart the bones are going to go down to the bottom most likely because of currents and stuff like that you're not going to get enough sediment to go over the top of it and so everything rots away everything rots away it's the same thing with land animals when land animals are killed you realize that they killed millions of bison during the 1800s right and so i don't know if you've seen them but they have pictures of mounds of bison skulls that are a good 20 feet tall they were killing so many of these animals and when you go out into the midwest and the plains area where these bison were killed you don't find bison fossils and the reason is because all those skulls sit out on the top of the ground and the sun gets to them and the weather gets to them and they fall apart most you know a lot of you guys are hunters you see this routinely you can go out year after year you can see a cow or you can see a deer you can see some animal that's that's been killed and year after year you go out and look at it and that skull goes away over time i have we used to raise bison for for meat and um one of the things that happens with uh with that is i have a friend who takes me and he would always uh take and get the skulls cleaned and then give me the skull i had to start buying these for myself because my buddy was constantly buying stuff for me and so i have like probably what bobby three or four skulls and so she likes to put them outside and i have to tell her where to put them you don't put them out in the sun because if you put them out of the sun they're going to rot away so you have to put them in the shade you have to make sure that you you know and that's not even good for them you want them inside some place but my wife doesn't allow that [Laughter] so again to get a fossil it has to be rapidly buried by water under lots of sediment and again you have these graveyards that go across state lines they're huge and so it's lots of water lots of sediment lots of dead animals some of those animals are in the act of doing things so there's uh fossils of ichthyosaurs giving birth they're in the act of giving birth and right now there would be this big picture on the screen if we were inside ichthyosaurs giving birth there are there are fossils of one fish eating another fish i've got three pictures of the of these of these things three different kinds of fish in the act of eating another fish when they're buried that's amazing and then on top of that you have fossils of uh soft uh bodied creatures so like would you think that a jellyfish would ever be fossilized you guys you know we don't live by the ocean i i used to hang out by the ocean all the time you know what happens with jellyfish when they die they just fall apart if they're up on the shore they come up on the shore you see jellyfish on the shore all the time and what will happen is the sun comes out and melts them like literally melts them and they just go away there's nothing left of them and we have fossils of perfectly formed jellyfish in fact we have fossils of colonies of perfectly formed jellyfish that have been buried rapidly and that's why they're they're fossilized and so you have these rapidly uh um buried animals all over the place in fact every fossil that you're talking about has to be a rapid burial by water in a flood and and so the whole story of uh it happening other ways is just nonsense rapidly deposited this is the third one sediment layers spread across vast areas the coca uh coconino sandstone that's uh in the grand canyon has an average thickness of 315 feet it covers an area of at least 200 000 square miles and thus contains at least 10 000 cubic miles of sand where'd the sand come from and one of the problems with the sandstone that you see in yellow or in the grand canyon area is it can't have come from the grand canyon area has to come from some other place sand grains are pure quartz which is why the coconino sandstone is such a distinctive buff color directly underneath it is the red brown hermit found uh formation consisting of silt stone and shale sand for the coconino sandstone cannot have come from the underlying hermit formation and what that this is what that's talking about it's the idea that all these things got built up over millions of years well if you have a red red limestone that's underneath the sandstone the sandstone above it should be red if it came from the limestone that was underneath it follow that that was the ground the ground got washed away and again it be came from you know these other layers become that so it can't be that another clue is that the coconino sandstone thins to zero to the north in utah but the hermit formation spreads farther into utah and beyond so the coconino's pure quartz sand had to come from a source even farther north above and beyond the red-brown hermit and so what they what they've come up with is that that sandstone actually came from the northeast of the united states was washed across the continent and deposited in the grand canyon it's the only place it could have come from so how do you get water that goes all the way across a continent and deposits a bunch of sandstone in a 200 000 square mile area how do you do that and um you do you don't do that under water not without a lot of water being used so for example you don't have sediments from the continental united states going all the way out into the middle of the atlantic ocean that's what we're talking about we're talking about 3 000 miles of transportation of materials um third layer of sandstone uh you get that with the sandstone do i need to do more with that i'm gonna i'm i'm gonna i'm gonna stop right there with the sandstone stuff um one one of the things that you have with these um these fossil beds i've got a figure here and you're not gonna be able to see it but the sandstone area uh actually some of the some of the uh layers that we have reach all the way from eastern california most of nevada all of the states from montana actually from north of montana in canada all the way down into northern mexico goes all the way over to half of texas covers the whole midwest and all the way up to maine these are called mega sequences large deposits of of uh different types of sedimentary rock that literally cover the continents you don't even you don't even have those just in the united states some of these layers go across the world and so there there are layers in the grand canyon that we've identified as being all over the western united states and all all into the eastern united states that they've even found in places like israel and we were talking earlier about the continents being one continent and so again when you're when you're looking at the evidence for the flood there's lots of evidence for this i was talking about rapid burial of plants and animals did you know that there are trees that have been buried upright you can find these in yellowstone they've been buried upright they're called polystrate fossils and so these fossil layers are supposed to have been laid down over millions of years but you got trees that are running through the middle of the fossil layers and that tree would have had to be standing there dead for millions of years while fossil layers or while sedimentary layers are being built up around it they're called poly straight fossils one of the biggest problems that you have uh with the whole geological column and so you have that evidence for sediment transported vast distances evidence 5 rapid or no erosion between strata next time you look at a picture of the grand canyon look at the look at the layers and they are they are straight across right and what they're telling you is those were laid down over millions of years here's the problem with that if you have each layer being the ground at some point in time look at the ground around us is it completely flat nope it's because there's been water erosion there's been wind erosion there's an up and down type of thing that's going on they are not completely flat and so if this got area got covered with water the next level that gets buried in sediment is going to conform to the land you would see this amphitheater it would be filled with deposits and underneath if you cut it in half you would see the amphitheater and that's when you're looking at the grand canyon deposits absolutely straight and they go they go for hundreds of thousands of square miles absolutely horizontal with no with no layers in between no up and down no valleys nothing like that you can't see that they were all deposited one upon another quickly and it's the only way that you can you can get that stuff then um uh the last one is evidence six mini straddle laid down in rapid succession and so i'm not gonna gonna go into any more of that because i want to end this right now um i do want to leave you with this there's a passage in psalm 119 that i really love and it says this oh how i love your law it's my meditation all the day you through your commandments make me wiser than my enemies for they are ever with me i have more understanding than all my teachers for your testimonies or my meditation i understand more than the ancients because i keep your precepts i've restrained my feet from every evil way that i may keep your word i've not departed from your judgments for you yourself have taught me how sweet are your words to my taste sweeter than honey to my mouth through your precepts i get understanding therefore i hate every false way your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path you know um the bible says that the word is truth and so when i go through and i look at my bible whether i'm in genesis or when whether i'm in revelation or whether i'm in psalms or whether i'm in the gospels i can know that this stuff is true we have people who are writing things down and they were trying to tell the truth about this stuff and obviously be being led by the holy spirit and so i can trust the word of god i started out a convinced evolutionist want to be when i became a christian and i am no longer a convinced evolutionist at all and i think that i've got good reasons for it so your word is truth let's pray thank you lord for the time thank you for your word thank you for the blessing that you are to us thank you for the fact uh that even when we look around at the creation we can see evidence of the fact that you you are here um you are the creator you are the one who has done all these things and again lord that we can trust your word father i just pray for your blessing on your people i pray that as they go their way that you would just be speaking to them this week using them with the people around us we know that lord that even in our area there are a lot of people around us that are living in absolute fear at this point and you're the god who casts out all fear and so lord we we pray that you'd help us to be effective in that bless these people go with them now lord we ask this in jesus name amen let's all stand
