Garp's Downfall Explained / One Piece Chapter 1087

so this chapter is continuing the fight between GARP and the Blackbeard Pirates along with kuzan and we see that GARP just immediately destroys San Juan wolf and knocks him into the water off of the island this is especially oppressive because San Juan wolf is a giant who ate the huge fruit so he's extraordinarily big then we see vasco's shots step up to take on Garf and he fires off one of his named attacks the Shugo ropu he's able to do this because he drank the gluglug fruit which essentially allows him to manipulate alcohol I assume and it looks like he might be igniting like a match or something here to light it on fire or this just could be some kind of hockey manipulation or something we've seen this before with other characters but he launches like a massive Fireball at Garb and GARP being the Chad that he is just grabs some random fodder Pirates and uses them as a shield and then throws them into hachinosu itself and it's like lighting it on fire we then find out that a portion of Sword was able to get back on the ship and set out to sea along with all of the innocent prisoners or civilians or whoever else was on hachinosu that they were able to save so this is one less thing that they have to worry about however gar Kobe and gruz are still on the island and garp's Main priority at this point is to get them off before him of course and he's trying to depart but this is when kuzan comes back we haven't seen kuzan since I think chapter 1081 when he got leveled by garp's Blue Hole and like sent him into a crater in the ground and he gets up and he's like like I said I can't let you leave GARP and as GARP is facing down against kuzan he tells Kobe gruz and helmeppo to run full speed towards the Seacoast because GARP is fined by himself at this point and he can't dedicate his full attention to fighting multiple strong opponents here and we're going to see that this immediately comes to fruition because as they're trying to escape Kobe notices that there is another possible civilian or innocent person that needs help and he goes to help them but it turns out that it's a trap of course and as he goes to save her we see Cheerio using his invisibility you know from his devil fruit to try and straight up assassinate Kobe but gar using his incredible reflexes and speed jumps in the way and takes the stab for Kobe this obviously parallels to many moments in the series you can pick which one you want but this is essentially the beginning of the end for GARP in my opinion I think we've already had many death flags for GARP and this is the biggest one for sure especially the reaction that he gives to getting stabbed through the abdomen here but of course this isn't immediately taking him out because this is GARP after all and it looks like he grabbed shiryu and like throws him into the ground while still being impaled I mean shiryu isn't being taken out by this and he's kind of laughing at it but he is severely damaged like I said in my spoilers video this is protecting shiryu as much as it's protecting Garb GARP of course not going down cleanly as he was protecting Kobe sure you not being knocked out by gar because he needs to be seen as very powerful as well because all of the Blackbeard Pirates essentially need to survive this because they're going to go on to have more significant moments in the series especially shiryu the right-hand man of Blackbeard he will likely be I don't know Zorro's future opponent or someone significant like that but now that the Pirates realize that GARP has been weak and they all start rushing it they note that the Bounty given to him by the cross Guild is three billion which apparently is the same as the Admiral so that's pretty significant and while it's not as high as some of the other yonko bounties it's still one of the highest bounties that we've ever seen and if this is underwhelming to you like it kind of was to me I think it's just due to the fact that there's kind of been a serious Bounty creep as of late I think it's definitely worthy of fujitora and green Bowl but kizuru should probably have at least 3.5 if not something north of that then we see kuzan going back after Garb and we go to a flashback of them when they were younger I'm not sure how long ago this was it could be 30 years ago maybe because John looks young and GARP looks really young looking like Gaston from Beauty and the Beast kind of or just Luffy on steroids but this is of course coming full circle and fully showing us how they came to be teacher and student kuzan said that he learned everything that he needed to from the instructors which could be Zephyr from Film Z but I don't think Oda is going to tie that into the cannon anytime soon and then he wants to go to the next level by learning from GARP who was like the ultimate legend of the Marines at this point and we see him punching the ships the same as Garb does and we saw in the beginning of this chapter brand new viewing the ships in real time or at least I assume it was we find out that garp's training while hitting these ships wasn't using hockey it was kind of just his bare fist but he's hitting them very specifically because we see that the ships are warping and caving in and not just breaking like they would traditionally from like a standard Punch or whatever so there is a specific method of training that he's doing here especially not using hockey because he says it won't be training so I guess he sees that as kind of cheating at least in the fundamental of this training but like I said this just shows the connection between the two and how emotional this battle is and like I've been saying before I do believe that kuzan is undercover here as a part of Sword infiltrating the Blackbeard Pirates and he's going against garpier to essentially prove his loyalty to them show that he can be trustworthy and it's like how far can he go is he going to take out Garb and the same goes for garb I'm pretty sure GARP doesn't know that Busan one is undercover here I mean it is possible that he does know and he's just trying not to blow his cover but I'd like to think that maybe not even GARP is aware of this and he just thinks that kuzan has fully turned teal and this leads to them just colliding with hockey fists to each other's faces in a massive clash and we see the conquerors lightning coming off of this exchange now we know that GARP has conquerors hockey we don't know if kuzan has it and I don't know if this is mutually between the both of them or if this is just a residual effect from GARP but I also wouldn't be surprised if kuzan has conquerors hockey either but it has yet to be confirmed this is somewhat of an ambiguous sequence I guess take from it when you will and this exchange just blows them both back we don't even see what happens to kuzan but we do see GARP lying on the ground like he was really rattled by this and we come to the ending sequence here where Pizarro just generates an arm coming out of the island this is like a pika and dress rose on steroids which I assume that Oda is going for just one-upping that and this massive hand is going to just completely destroy the ship that Sword and the civilians are on Pizarro is kind of salty about Blackbeard getting all the headlines in the newspaper and he wants a headline for himself being the one that takes down sword along with gar and this is where the chapter ends with GARP just lying on the ground witnessing this saying don't lose your composure Kobe you know justice will prevail and it's like eventually it will but maybe not so much in this sequence I do think that the ship will be saved because you know they can't die here I definitely don't see Oda doing this going to make it out of this sequence alive and I think this would be a fitting send-off for him nurturing the Next Generation which is essentially his whole plan in the first place but yeah let me
