the winner is jim carrey cammy this is serious uh it's going to be so hard to talk out of my ass after this [Music] but i'll manage i'll manage oh what a shocker i mean if you look back at some of my earlier dramatic work [Applause] in films like earth girls are easy and once bitten you might have seen this coming but but i really wasn't expecting it and uh boy you know what this means don't you i'm a shoe-in for the blockbuster award that's right oh yeah gosh where do i start i'd like to thank sherry lansing in paramount pictures thank you so much for having faith so much faith in this oh gosh scott rudin for having wonderful tastes and material andrew nickel for creating a beautiful paranoid prophecy uh especially peter weir thank you peter so much thank you for allowing me to play truman burbank for seeing more in me than just funny faces and uh i got to tell you that you know the way you work and your youthful exuberance your love of storytelling really inspires everyone in your path and i pray that we get to do it again sometime soon and uh i'd like to thank my business team headed by jimmy miller eric gold and nick stevens i'd like to thank my family especially my beautiful daughter jane my mother and father [Applause] and and the academy no i mean i'm sorry i was thinking of something else and now thank you very much hollywood foreign press i will really love this i'll enjoy it so much right down to the chewy chocolate center thank you not the same without you harvey five great actors turned in five golden globe worthy performances this year here are the nominees for best actor motion picture musical or comedy jim carrey man on the moon robert de niro analyze this rupert everett an ideal husband hugh grant notting hill and sean penn sweet and low down and the winner is jim carrey [Music] wow hello wow this is a surprise uh gosh another one second year in a row what's going on here man i am the establishment i once rejected wow now i know what it's like to produce frasier thank you again anyway [Applause] i'm the tom hanks of the golden globes [Applause] oh gosh so many people to thank milos forman thank you sir for allowing me to work with you you're a wonderful human and a fantastic artist so supportive of all the nonsense and uh and i just i'm so excited to have worked with you and i hope we can do it again and i jeez it's it was an amazing experience i was a very silly person on this movie and uh danny devito jersey films thank you guys so much you guys are wonderful danny devito a giant in the business ladies and gentlemen pound for pound tougher than a grizzly bear all right oh gosh i want to thank uh jimmy miller eric gold uh nick stevens debbie klein marlia leslie uh i'm gonna forget someone and it's gonna be bad uh courtney love ladies and gentlemen who by the way when she leaves later will be the one responsible for the personality vacuum um i'd like to thank my family like to thank everybody i i work with um geez jane hi um this is wonderful really is and uh i really don't uh i wasn't expecting it so i didn't write anything uh but i'm doing okay no i am uh but you know i i was a little shocked that it was in the comedy or musical category actually but you know i'll go with it i'll get a song book right to broadway man you can't shoot a man with a gun with a gun with a gun i'm going for it man thank you very much i appreciate it all right and the winner is [Applause] jim carrey in the truman show [Music] [Applause] uh let it blow let it blow you know after this year's so-called oscar race i realize that dancing for the man just ain't where it's at and i decided right then and there that no matter what they tried to take away from me i was gonna be who i really am so i want to thank a couple of people i'd like to accept this award on behalf of my new biker friends [Applause] i'd like to thank mtv for throwing this little shin d giving us an excuse to party one more time i got a little bone to pick with the programming department you know i like rap music as much as the nice frightened caucasian but you know where to kill you every once in a while to play a little fog hat [Applause] last but definitely most important to me i'd like to thank all the ladies [Applause] we're dressing up so pretty there's some fun looking seeing this room tonight i'll tell you that you're all going in my fantasy file i'll tell you that i don't care who your daddies are [Music] hey is that chick from the ricky martin video gonna be at the party i don't know who she is man but i'm mean to find out let it flow let it last and let it go in the sun the rain the snow let it flow baby up next jennifer lopez keanu reeves in the award for best movie party starts now nothing to see here folks get that camera off they're not shaking get that thing out of them get out of his face i'm telling you when the wild 2k thing hits whole place is gonna go down and the winner is jim carrey [Applause] [Music] [Applause] whoa thank you uh will one word two syllables breath ashore okay i had a lot of time to think about it's not fair um first of all i would like to thank uh will and the rest of the nominees in this category they are unbelievable talents and uh want what i've got so bad they can taste it wow i'm sorry where'd that come from i'd like to thank my management team who are wonderful the best at what they do in every category and should thank their lucky stars they ever met me that is not what i meant to say it's the truth i would like to thank the fans [Applause] who have always supported my comedies but don't quite know what to think of me in drama and uh lastly i would like to thank mtv especially the producer of this show who uh obviously had a real brainchild you know sat and thought wow i can get a lot of commercial coverage sell a lot of time if i could get a bunch of celebrities together in a room i know i'll give them an award and if they don't show up people will think they're ungrateful [Applause] i really am grateful for this it's a tremendous op honor and uh and a business it's really though it's mostly an honor business it's a business and an honor but i'm grateful i am grateful thank you very much i ain't even got to open this jim carrey oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i'd like to um i'd like to thank um jamie foxx and stuff and um for introducing me and um i'd like to give a big shout out to to britney spears who's here okay but like you know leave me alone brittany because you're like i'm too old for you man i'm 17. [Applause] and wow let me see uh i want to i want to uh just want to say that i'm really thankful for this and it's a great honor because uh because i believe that young people uh rule the world and stuff and yeah and uh and i've always felt a really special connection with with teenagers and everything and uh and i'm kind of like you know kind of like a teenager you know in certain ways like when i got my braces and stuff you know i was really embarrassed and then like all my friends you know got braces too and then it was like cool and uh and then you know like when i you know whenever there's something like you know really really important happening i get really nervous and like i i totally break out and stuff you know you should see my back i shouldn't have touched it you know but like you know but that's okay because i saw instinct backstage and they totally broke out too you know in fact they have a new breakout album and stuff but um but like you know i'm really happy to be here and uh it's it's really great and uh oh ouch oh that one hurts oh that's ready to go no i'm sensing some seismic activity on this one man i better get out of here before i go totally mount saint helens man okay thank you very much and your favorite uh your choice for favorite comedy motion picture this year is bruce almighty this is the first award of the year for bruce almighty and the this an important win for uh for the movie it's just great to know that as well as a movie being successful the whole hollywood community has decided to accept jesus christ as their lord and savior it's fantastic thank you my jewish friends oh that's great by the way i was wondering rob thomas said something about who are the people are the people actually here that voted is there someone down here that voted for this who you stand up stand up come here come here hurry come down here come here right here stand right here okay stand right here face these men now say thank you these guys did it for us the people i want to say one more thing i want to say one more thing seriously god has loved all of us through you guys my entire life i swear i've had so much love from people when i walk gentlemen it is a great honor to be recognized for my work in the grinch as an artist i am always striving to find new forms of expression so i decided that if i was to win tonight i would accept my award telepathically and they say george lucas is cutting [Laughter] [Applause] edge got a little dizzy there fine it's just hard to breathe that's all is it hot in here or is it me oh no i can't speak i've stayed too long head aching palms moist i'm blind dear god in heaven what have i done lord forgive me for meddling with the forces of nature i better thank some people um ron howard um um rick baker um uh universal um sorry if i've forgotten anybody oh kazoo [Applause] the 2001 mtv movie awards are sent the mtv generation award to jim carrey [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so [Applause] thank you will you're great will farrell ladies and gentlemen the great little carol you are great you know you really are you're one of the funniest people on the face the earth and you're a nice guy do you even know how beautiful you are see even that beautiful i want to paint you will you come by my studio and pose nude i would love that cool i'll try to be professional i wasn't aware uh until just recently that i had won more popcorn awards than anyone else in human history [Applause] but when i found out i thought wow why am i so blessed why is my life so miraculous why do so many struggle with fame while i'm able to float effortlessly on the upper edges of the hollywood status sphere you like that word status fear i made that up last night i made up a word that's right what is that power that allows me to do such magical things why is it that my critics are destined to gnash their teeth and bemoan the loss of their inner child while they watch me free my spirit with the dance of the happy genitalia [Applause] that's good yeah we might want to put some ice on that that sucker is going to hurt tomorrow ah it's as if some unseen force is working in my life protecting me guiding me dancing right along with me i guess there's no way to prove it it's just a feeling i have that i'm not alone but my popcorn awards are proof enough thank you thank you [Music]
