father of the son of the holy spirit amen the lord be with you brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries you were sent to heal the contrite of heart lord have mercy came to call sinners christ have mercy you are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life let us pray show gracious favor o lord we pray to the works of penance we have begun that we may have strength to accomplish with sincerity the bodily observances we undertake through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god for ever and ever a reading from the book of the prophet isaiah shout out do not hold back lift up your voice like a trumpet announce to my people their rebellion to the house of jacob their sins yet day after day they seek me and delight to know my ways as if they were a nation that practiced righteousness and did not forsake the ordinances of their god they ask of me righteous judgments they delight to draw near to god why do we fast but you do not see why humble ourselves but you do not notice look you serve your own interest on your fast day and oppress all your workers look you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to strike with a wicked fist such fasting as you do today will not make your voice heard on high is such the fast that i choose a day to humble oneself is it to bow down the head like a burl rush and to lie in sackcloth and ashes will you call this a fast a day acceptable to the lord is not this the fast that i chose to lose the bounds of injustice to undo the thongs of the yoke to let the oppressed go free and to break every yoke is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house when you see the naked to cover them and to not hide yourself from your own kin then your light shall break forth like the dawn and your healing shall spring up quickly your vindicators shall go before you the glory of the lord shall be your rear guard then you shall call and the lord will answer you shall cry will not scorn the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to matthew the disciples of john came to jesus saying why do we and the pharisees fast often but your disciples do not fast and jesus said to them the wedding guests cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them can they the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them and then they will fast the gospel of the lord the gospel reading today reminds us of our spiritual journey the season of our spiritual journey that our relationship with god will go through a journey and we are to embrace embrace its each season in following jesus in the gospel jesus said the wedding guests cannot mourn for as long as the bridegroom is with them if the bridegroom is our constant companion in this life we are joyful and hopeful living with christ rather than mourning or sorrowful but the time will come that the bridegroom will be taken away then they will fast this season of lent we are called to fast aside from praying and doing good towards other by almsgiving we choose to fast to partake in the suffering and the passion of christ a little pain a little suffering directs our spirit directs our soul to participate in the passion of christ if we notice if we over eat or if we over drink we tend to forget lots of things we tend to forget god and other people but we experience hunger we experience a little bit of suffering we think about god and more important things in life this ash wednesday if you what if you watch pope francis he said and he invited us to fast and to pray for ukraine and for russia because war is a tragedy that proves that god is missing the disciples they were called to fast when the bridegroom christ will be taken away we fast we discipline our body because many times we forget we lost sight of jesus because of our sins we lost our journey towards god and fasting can help us redirect our focus towards god fasting reminds us to discipline our body to live behind the pleasures that tender us to see the presence of god in every step of this journey in life as we know we cannot duplicate the passion of christ today friday and every friday this lent let us be mindful to fast for the forgiveness of our sins a little sacrifice to get back to the way of the cross of christ a little sacrifice for us to experience in our own simple and little ways so we can say in our life that we have shared in his passion and we look forward to rise with him at easter if you remain to be connected with christ as our vine and we are the branches we will continue to bear fruit because he will never leave us or and he will not abandon us this lent let us embrace jesus and enjoy life with christ amen so blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you through the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life but the mistress water and what come to share in the truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you for your will that our self-denial should give you thanks humble our sinful pride contribute to the feeding of the poor and so help us imitate you in your kindness and so we glorify you with countless angels as with one voice of praise we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore this gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like a dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given your death o lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of this death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we will be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and thomas our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters of falling asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face hovers in us all we pray that we the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles with saint michael and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and we praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we will be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ [Music] lord jesus christ
