[Music] [Music] sometimes together I have so many mixed emotions of almost speechless to the past of this great church thank you for your support the hospitality in the convent and I have the family and all of our visitors we appreciate you to all of the clergyman the bishops and apostles we respect you and we honor you grateful to God for you not just those that are on the stage with those that are on the floor as well we greet you with love to the angel that stands beside me my first lady Serita Jake's paintings for being here today lastly and most importantly to this beer somewhat rural family Grace and peace be multiplied unto you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ to lady till male in particular tough cookie [Music] when sickness thought surely he had her she wrestled her way out of the clutches of the enemy because God when he finished with her yet last time I saw her she was in the hospital all tubed up and tied up and strapped down stop by and prayed with her as did so many of you to God be the glory I'm deeply moved as so many things have gone on my heart is so touched on this occasion I enter into the gates of this experience both generationally understanding Bishop Sommerfeld because he is one of my peers and generationally we are connected particularly he fell even deeper in love of him when I saw him with that jheri curl man know why I love him he was slinging the juice when I was leg into juice amen first tired my first time by the butcher last of the oh hey curls - first time I saw Bishop Sommerfeld was not in person it was on the TV set it's so radical a radical man of faith who was ahead of his time in a whole lot of ways the things that were absolutely amazing he was on TV when I was selling chicken dinners and say who is saying yes we come from a generation of builders stepped out on nothing with nothing in our hands but fight and fire and built all the way down to the end we built in our hearts and in our mind and to our intent a covering the shelter for our wives for our sons and to our daughters to gestate in safety and we are most proud not because we built the biggest churches or had the largest crowds but we are most proud because we protected our families at all costs as that legacy continues we probably gotta figure out to sing and I said he reminds me of somebody I can't figure out who he was and he was Timothy right so be aware you God bless you unless you it makes you feel good as a father when you can see your seed continue that's that's that's real prosperity that's real that's real prospering everything else comes and goes but real prosperity is when you have been effective enough that even though you grow up like a plant and wither in the Sun that you leave seeds in the ground that walk like you and talk like you and think like you and fight like you come on talk to me somatic if anybody knows what that feels like you've got to sir just a minute of praise [Applause] because though we come to the funeral of Bishop Sommerfeld and we come to celebrate his life the truth of the matter is bishop Summerfield cannot be gone he is not gone cannot be gone because he will live in the seeds of his children and his children's children forever so if the devil was trying to get one I got for to continue it we don't die we multiply they meant about it I have the task of eulogizing someone who needs no eulogy of speaking well of someone that everybody already knows but to that task and to my obedience to this family and thank you for the honor incidentally of asking me to eulogize your husband and your father and that to me is an honor and a privilege it is not the kind of thing I take lightly or do often or easily but I do it because I respect bishops of Israel he said I'm the Executive Board of our Potter's House international pastoral alliance and whenever we needed him he was there it's tough and strong it was faithful he was consistent he didn't see him coming to go and wonder which Frank Summerfield was he today he was the same solid as a rock had this ability to be jovial and congenial and yet steadfast and unmoving the only time I've ever seen him weak was by your bed when he thought he would lose you that scared him to death and I saw him over in the corner trembling scared to death that he was going to lose the love of his life and for me that was the weakest moment I've ever seen him be that vulnerable before and just between you and I I never respected it me any more than I did in that moment of vulnerability often we as men try so hard to be so tough but we are at our best when we are broken because he loved to you to the end [Music] every time he talked to me talk to me about his children and his wife and his vision and its purpose and we just came to say man I won't talk long about a few minutes of this just indulge me if you will out of the book of Acts chapter 20 we will deliberate over a moment in Scripture that the holy spirit has dropped into my heart acts 20 verse 25 through 32 I may go even down into 36 and 38 and I'm vyas all of those that would to stand for the reading of God's Word I want to say publicly why you look for the verse stuff lady Janelle we pastor Jonah we have your back some of your family we're with you 100% whatever we can do to help you in this process you already know this is my talk I've proven it I'll be right there day and night covered it now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again verse 26 therefore I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you for I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers be shepherds of the Church of God which he brought with his own which he bought with his own blood I know I know I know that after I leave savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock even from your own number men will arise distort the truth in order to throw away disciples after them so be on your guard remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears now I commit you to God and the word of His grace which can bill you up and give you an inheritance amongst all those who are sanctified when Paul had finished speaking he knelt down with all of them and prayed and they all wept as they embraced him and kissed him but grieved the most was his statement that they would never see his face again then they accompanied him to the ship temperatures amen I want to talk this for a few moments from the something good to the last drop good to the last drop let's pray if I were steady father God thank you for how can we thank you for this man who means so many different things to so many different people and though there is one casket before us and one corpse laying in it he is so many different things so many different memories and moments and and ideas in situations that the whole service could never tell what is represented but we thank you for what is embodied in the life of dr. Frank some affiliates to that ends and men have come from north south east and west flown by air drove for hours to be here to commemorate on a Monday this man of God because he is so respected he he is resting in your bosom held in your arms safe from disease and affliction safe from stress and worry faith to terminal and aggravation safe from the big types of Satan faith in your arms and though it is selfies of us and we long to have in here we know that to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord and that the best place for him is away from us soon we will join him he will might join us soon we will join him keep us for that moment in Jesus name Amen you may be seated in the presence of the Lord it has been said that success is not accomplished without a successor the truth of the matter is we all labor and work so hard whether we are preachers pastors bishops eldest evangelist to persuade men that some indelible impression of Christ might be upon them to such a degree that they would continue the work that we have begun we labor in the word and in doctrine as about to Frank Sommerfeld did so that we might not only take them for Christ but infect them with the purity of the gospel so strong that that purity would remain pure from beginning to end the Bible talks about our unity being like the oil that fell upon the head of Aaron onto his beards and onto his skirts the object is not just for us to be anointed but in succession that we maintain that anointing without being diluted or polluted by the cares of this world years ago when I was a boy Maxwell house came up with the slogan that said they were good to the last drop that how it changed it in the beginning it would still be the same at the end the notion was consistency isn't equivalent to greatness I suggest to you in this time today where people are great for a weekend great for a month or two a great for a moment it costs something to be great all the way to the end it is not easy to be faithful to the end it is easy to be faithful when you are popular it is easy to be faithful when things are going well it is easy to be faithful when you see the results of your labor the challenge of real faith is to stand there in the fall away and the cut away and the break away and the storm anybody can shine in the summer but you are really faithful until you can shine in the winter Oklahoma talked to me in the rain in the fall of life what we want to do what we are called to do what we are committed to do what not to Frey gave his life to do was to to mentor people in the faith as he was mentor when I read it about how he had had met sister Jo there before she was passed until Nell and and was drawn by a loveliness into a position of vulnerability to which he got trapped by the gospel interesting story and be God used her for bait to lure him into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and he's never got away from the bait or the hook the rest of his life what we really want to do is to make our life count because it is so brief I look at the young man standing up confident singing and jumping him and the hollering and I swear it was last week I was doing it just like that it was last week my hair was black I just bleep my eyes and it came out white I don't know where the time when it was just it seems like just last weekend I was coming in your church for the very first time to preach the gospel and people were backed up for miles and miles to hear the gospel and he were entertaining me back in the back room and coming out with cookies and we were laughing and talking it seems like just yesterday ah the time moves fast young men steady old men don't resent them they are teaching you what's next respective young ladies look at young mothers and take notes because they have something to tell you because you will not always be who you are today to be able to go through the changes of life and be consistent is important and I believe that it is difficult to survive life without a mentor a guy the tour guide if you will somebody who can see what's down the road and tells you win the duck and tells you when to stand up and tells you when to speak out it tells you when to hold your peace by mentoring we have to have the gospel mentor if the gospel didn't need to beam entered he would have just given us a book but he gave the book to flesh so that we could see a model and measure ourselves and imitated their back road the church survives from generation to generation to generation perpetuating itself by the examples that preceded you are no greater than your teachers no stronger than your leaders no mightier than the ones who went before you all that you think you know somebody talks you all that you possess in wisdom and intellect it's passed down and I have come to understand the statement that I did not understand when I was younger that every time I stand behind the sacred death that it is so crowded up here because all that have gone before me stand up with me I'm trying to tell you I didn't get here by myself I'm trying to tell you that you can't see my mother but she's standing here you can't see my father but he's standing right over there and my Grandmamma lowering her standing right behind me grandma Susie and standing right over here in the corner and I'm telling you that I have the sum total of all those who went before me and I can tell you you come from good ground and good stock and tough tenacious people and never ever forgive that you are not in it by yourself many of you who know me know that I vessel a boat between the office at our hole that I'm honored to hold in the body of Christ as a bishop but I'm also a CEO of the business person and as such I found myself often engaging and being believable enough to be able to speak in corporate settings as well as in church settings in corporate settings they will talk about mentoring and they talk about the four stages of mentoring and they when you really get ready to teach somebody something the first step is to do it in front of it because if people are not exposed to something they cannot be what they do not see so the first step to mentoring anybody is to do it in front of them the second step is to do it with them you let them become involved let them get their hands on and let them find out what it feels like to be actively engaged do not allow them to remain spectators in four years of your greatness but bring them into close proximity so that they can participate along with you and get a feel of what it's like to do what you do so the second step you do it with them this third step you watch them do it and we are here from the fourth step you leave them to it ultimately when mentoring is successful we start out watching people and then we become involved and they do it with us and they gradually they step back and watch us do it and only when the time is right do they leave it to us Jesus did it he did it in front of him he did it with them he said the seventy out and watched him do it and then he left them to it in my text the Apostle Paul has called together the elders at Ephesus because for three years he has been engaged in the process of letting them watch him do it and then he did it with them he stood back and watched them do what he used to do and now he has called them together and told him that he's about to lead them to it and he said I commend you to God and to the word of His grace he tells about only people I continue to take care of the flock but take care of yourself because I have learned doctor help it if you don't take care of yourself you can't take care of anybody else watch out for the mistakes of our generation because sometimes we were so busy taking care of you that we did not take care of us we were so busy serving you that we did not serve us we were so busy preaching and teaching and building and growing that often we didn't take the rest that is required for the stress we live with oh my god I want you to understand that at the end of the day Paul is getting ready to go away and he says I want you to take heed to yourselves and then the flock of God of which the Holy Ghost has made you overseers oversee so much that you don't see about yourself and he says after my departure and this is always customary whenever greatness leaves room weakness will slither in and try to do what it will if the grievious wolves will rise up trying to separate the flock of God but Paul was persuaded that what he put in them was strong enough and invincible enough to keep them going to the end I have come to understand that everything that anybody ever put in you continues to live in your head live in your head in such a way that when the enemy gathers around you and tells you you about yourself you will hear your father speak up in your head and tell you you can do it I'm telling you that his voice has not gone out of the earth that one day you'll be driving down the highway perplexed and confused about the situation and you almost want to look around to see if he's in the backseat because he'll yet speak to you like Abel's blood from the ground very the voice that continues to speak to you through hard times and I want to tell you today that the people you see in this room I'm not here because they are smart or strong or mighty but there's been some voices in their head that guided them through the storm and the rain and the pain of life and every time the devil thought he had you God gave you a word gave you a word gave you a direction so you don't go here don't go there let her go don't get involved with that and you are not in this thing you're not by yourself you're not by yourself even have began what can you shall perform it unto the day of Jesus Christ the same God that what your father's thru will bring you through the same God that worked miracles in your life will work miracles in their lives you may have to do like Joshua with the Industrial saw Moses come down to the Red Sea with his staff and the waters parted before he stepped in but when Joshua came to the Jordan they didn't work the same way he came down to the Jordan Helmuth his kick and nothing moved and it is at that point that you do what you saw your fathers do and nothing moves if you are weak you will go back but if you had teaching correctly you are too radical to go back you will take the next step like Joshua did and said it may not work the way it kids with Moses but I'm gonna step in it anyway and he had to step in the water and get his feet wet before the things begin to move but somebody in here understands I've come too far to turn around and before I turn around I'll swim through the water when Joshua stepped into the water the water pardon and he went across you may have to get your feet wet sometime you may have to stand in from this in front of something that's not moving and watch God make a way out of no way in a new way like you've never seen him do before but don't you run what it looks like it's not working get your feet wet and stepped in the water because I believe that God is about to do something so mighty in your life and in your spirit and in your heart then he can trust you enough to move your mentor and move your tutor and make you stand up and discover the greatness of who you are there is something inside of you that God wants to reveal and as long as you're under the shadow of somebody you can't see yourself and every now and then God will pull the curtain and show you yourself because you never stood up before because you didn't have to but now now is the time Florida gun for the sons to become fathers now is the time for the student to become teachers now is the time for you to shake your fist in the devil's face and say what was started in this place will not die we will fight we will cry we will cross and yes we will get in the mud we will go on in the name of Jesus if you got some fight in you this morning if you got some fire in you if you got some fan acity in you if you made up your mind you're not going back if you're willing to get your feet wet give it just three seconds of crazy Holy Ghost but nautical yes yes yes yes God is up to something God is up to something he wouldn't let this happen if he couldn't trust you his timing is too accurate to make a mistake he's precise about whim to do what and how to do what and where to do what I told Mitch the other day hey is it just operable when you get what you want faith is not just alive when God says yes if you're gonna trust me when he says yes you gotta trust him when he says no the same favorite shops when he says yes needs to shop when he says no I was so happy when I was already two little pop in her hands and praise of God because what the enemy wants is to take your joy and make your peace and send you into a depression but every time you spend it in space and give God the praise anyway you prove for God I live and for god I'll die oh my God my god I see the family praising God if the families praising God I know all these clergy call us ought to be able to get a praise somewhere here all the Apostles and priests ought to be able to get a hallelujah somewhere if the winner to copperhead Saul in a church on a gift on a prize if this is the kind of praise that makes hell nervous make penis triple make Satan upset it's not something cuz you got a new car it's not shot because the house is paid off he's not some cuz addresses himself but when you come down to the in as if I don't have those shoes if I don't have the house I'm still gonna praise the Lord yeah poor offer the sacrifice of play [Applause] [Music] because we know that the master hasn't played drove the oldest book in the Bible joke the first book to be written in the Holy Writ he came down and he had no Bible to read job had no Bible to read things had gotten real bad lost his property lost his children lost his reputation and his body was sick there wasn't no Instagram no Facebook he couldn't go YouTube and get a message there was no Bible programs for him to Guinea and there was no Bible written so he walked in the woods and stumbled up an old tree and the tree had been cut down to a stump and he looked down in the stump amongst all of the debris and all of the fire hands and all of the termites were eating through the stuff it looked like the tree would never be back again but down in the debris he saw something green coming up that out of death there will always come life and Joe said there is hope for a tree that it could be cut down at the smell of water it will sprout again and even I know my redeemer and I know I'll be all right because God brings greatness out of weakness pleasure out of pain resurrection how to death I see something green coming up in the midst of this situation and I'm kind of feeling and say I've got a feeling I say I've got a feeling that everything is going to be all right so that he's into my conclusion I don't want to take up a lot of your time but Paul has called all of them down and they walked him down to the seashore he had been ministering to them for three years cease not to warn them they in light for three years with tears weeping over them trying to make sure that they understood who they were and whose they were and what God would do in their life and now he was leaved of his duties and he had to go to Jerusalem and all of the elders prayed with him and being human is a luxury and it is a privilege that I don't ever let people take away from me I cry when I want to cry I laughed when I want to laugh I clapped when I want to clap I will not stop up my tears to impress you I found out that you can cry and still be strong Oh y'all over here it's just a whimper and still be wise and so they came down to the seashore to watch Paul leave and they went and he had gone to Jerusalem their teacher their leader their memories got on the boat and they watched him till he disappeared and they knew that they would never see him again not too much later after that he would be locked up in a jail cell and a cold air cell in Jerusalem and he would say to Timothy he said Timothy Masson preach the gospel the instant in season and out of season for the time will arise that men will not receive sound luck am i right about it he says the time of my departure is at hand the Ephesian saw me go by boat but now I'm departing another way he said I'm about to be offered up it's offered up can I can I talk to him and it's offered up was reminiscent of libations it was drink offerings drink offerings for what were offered up to God in spills little by little as I spilt the drink to the ground it was one of the ways said they pay tribute to God Paul says I was his drink offering every time I preached it costs me something every time I helped people it costs me something I know it costs something because when the woman with the Israel blood touch the hem of Jesus garment Jesus wasn't even looking at her and he felt something believe him every time you help somebody get shot that goal every time you lay hands on somebody every time you work through a crisis with somebody you can't do that and just give them God and not you a little bit of you spills out the cup because we are at our best we are drink offerings drink offerings being spent in service and Paul says Timothy and down to the last drop he said that I'm about to be offered up offered up means that I'm bound to the place in the cup that in order to get the last they're gonna have to turn me completely up that's what offered up means and down to the last drop Joubert little over a month ago for example free all preached his last message in your church and you didn't know it but he was down to the last drop he never got to preach another message he never got to dance across the floor or clap his hands or given love a bit of direction because he was being offered up but he says like Paul ha ha ha songs oh I kept the faith I didn't turn into four or five different people I kept the faith I didn't turn him into my unrecognizable and lead you into a pulp I kept the faith you didn't see me in scandals I kept the faith I was stood the winds of opposition I am down to the last drop now laid up for me it's a crowd of righteousness eternal in the heavens nonno you want me to stay with you for your pleasure and comfort and safety and security but would you deny me after all of my years of covering you would you deny me this crown that awaits me somewhere in that hospital room a maid's of Crichton's guy that's it well done down good and enter enter enter into the choice of the Lord you have fought a good fight you have kept the faith you have finished your course and you'll see this strong enough for the truth of the matter is the last drops of find some field are in you ah will start his human you will face Sean Sean that show daddy was good to the last because that drops that profits in view that prophecy you as let God true and every man a liar and the church said a man again as we prepare to close this is not just a funeral it's a transition of power it is the release of glory it's a continuation of a dynasty in the kingdom it is proof positive that something eternal happened here something that he fought for and he died for and he gave his life for I want you to reach out and touch somebody and know that you're touching a three Kaufering that there's something in that person if God wants to flow that the enemy is so terrified of him and her that he said traps all their life to keep them from moving forward then the enemy is so scared that you're going to pass what you got to the next one to the next one that he's trying to cut you off at the pass and just squeeze her hand because there's transfer going on he's shot that guy there's a transfer going on between Frank senior and his children from generation to generation squeeze their hand there's a transfer going on over to God there's a transfer going on from you and the person you're touching there's a transfer going on good to the last drop anointment for the last drop empowered to the last drop it's all while you're squeezing their hand though the jesus said if any two or three of you agree as touching anything on earth it shall it shall be done father we bless you and we thank you for the gift you gave in Frank Sommerfeld and how they gift reincarnates itself in the lives of his children and not just his natural children but his spiritual children and all those who have been forgotten by the way they came through him squeezing in this gift will not go in vain although we will continue what he has began because dr. Frank's Sommerfeld was good to the last [Music] let every drop of this room give praise to God right [Applause] [Music] [Music] give advice give advice the blaze they watch as Paul sailed away praising God that they had been touched by true man of God as the Undertaker's come in that same spirit those ship of Zion has come to take our brother away and it is time for us to see him off he had served his generation well and we have come to watch himself to the new Jerusalem where there will be the weeping where there will be no sickness where there will be no sorrow where there will be no death somebody [Applause] [Music]
