[Music] mass is the source in summits of our faith it is not boring it is not well I tell you what if you don't know what's happening it may appear boring but this is what we're going to talk about today all right jesus said where two or three are gathered in my name there I am in their midst well we have that here today now the mass is an encounter between man and God you all know that but it's not just in prayer people think that it's just in prayer no it is in words true but gestures and symbols and not symbolic like the many people think that the Eucharist is symbolic it is real grace so you have words prayers gestures symbols and real grace all of this is in the mass now we are not just spirit the angels are just spirit we are body and spirit we are body and soul this is very important so we engage not just our soul as Protestants do but our body too do you ever hear that row the Catholic Mass is nothing but stay in Sydney o stand sit kneel there's a reason for that and it's very important okay this is well let's look at this for a minute stand why do we stand stand as a sign of respect what do you do when somebody walks in the room gentlemen when a lady walks in the room stand just don't keep reading the newspaper we stand now maybe husbands don't do this every time the wife keeps walking in and out of the kitchen you probably annoy her at that point but when a lady walks in the room we stand what about kneeling kneeling is a sign of humility you are making yourself smaller God is big we are small we are kneeling kneeling prayer is also for supplication asking for something when the peasants would come before the king they knelt down they ask please or having mercy asking for God's mercy what about sitting what are you doing now you're sitting sitting is a receptive position it is listening it's receiving when it spoke or what is repose here you go now when you walk before the altar are you supposed to genuflect no you Bob what about the crucifix do you genius-like before the crucifix yes who hired you Jayden left before the holy crucifix on Good Friday the other times you do it Wow right this wrong premise what the priest is reading secret Christmas until he sees the name Jesus or Aaron a little mouth and honor and reverence of the name of Jesus and Mary this is very important art about seeing why do we sing we unite our personal and communal trade do you know Jesus saying on his way to the passion and you know what converted most early Romans this is documents what Catholic the converted most early Romans is what they watch them being centered death to be eaten by lions or early state and they were seized they were sinners and the Romans were originally winter - ear then the devil he started like whoa what is this what do they then things that I've been afraid virtually seen and their mother get beaten up by the Detroit Lions Wow there's something here sitting United States so come participant in the mass especially seeing it doesn't have to be into right see nothing to be to God when you dive badly choir we are singing in Betty the nerve that you kind of hear the mask what are these in silence silence what is the importance of silence well you know you would look at what the sing sing about fact what was the most important words Joseph spoken scriptures nothing he never follows their silence perfect so silence could be more than just words silence could be a proper disposition the mess is all the beds this is why the mask is so important right now it's interesting because the mass now is cause II to the masses competition we compare the products and we get letters all the time is how the Joseph I get tons of letters I need some others from this side of the letters from this side but I often get letters from some people and they playing about today's mass you know the Novus Ordo mass or the ordinary form of the mask this mask I had I attended a memorial mass the mass of the traditional for the Trinity mass the Latin Mass this is the only one I go to they asked twice happened because the people of the fifteen hundreds wouldn't recognize our past day is this true yes it's true that before the $1500 would recognize our destiny of everyone that before the seven thunders do you know that the extraordinary to be for theory for the Novus Ordo mass is actually more ancient than the traditional Trinity you know that they would mathematically to to the sacramentary combustibles ancient craters that we have in the church so what anybody said is that I will believe in this current order before the mass it's not traditional of they don't know what they're talking about now nice person I can say the same thing about people look at the ordinary extraordinary for the fastest a poem that's so sweet freak Malcolm - that's ancient this not my will you know what was wrong with we got to do nothing my point is Pope Benedict said continuity that is there's no better form of the mass they are both integrates the ordinary for mass and extraordinary ornaments you do not reject either one okay you do not reject either one they are both of mass they are both infinite grace and this is what people don't understand you see and they were before the mass the set of hundreds the mass this is two things sacrifice and it's me that's why this altar is both the table and across it is a table to enjoy the mute and is the cross for sacrifice you see the ancient form of the seven hundreds of masks the focus was up immediately and then the 1500 retreated to the basket each ordering from the master the focus became sacrifice faculty to brought those two back together we need to celebrate the mass as both be sacrifice in you and this is what people don't understand traditionalists don't understand that honor is go understand this is very import all right so let's look at the best there is so much here I can tuck you for the next 13 hours so let's do this this when those past again what is the first really beginning of the internet upon the cross no meeting ever what's the beginning of the mass when does the mass begin in your home father come on the mass begins in your home you don't come to mass totally unprepared it's like this bread here and this wine and this bread and wine are not properly prepared do they become the body and blood of Christ all right I got a question for you if I was here as an ordained priest in good standing which I am and I put Wonder Bread and grape juice and I said these exact prayers with the most reverence that I could possibly have and I say the complete right of the mass do they become the body blood of Christ no you must have proper form and matter that is for a sacrament to be legitimate to be real a sacrament must have proper form meaning the words that are said the words of consecration and matter they must be the proper form of unleavened bread and it has to have some wheat people are like oh my it's completely non gluten father there's no such thing you could not have a complete you could have low gluten there is no such thing as completely non gluten or it's an invalid host so people don't know this you must have proper form the right words and matter them the material or the the substance to have a proper mass or sacrament now just like the bread and the wine have to be properly prepared like what about the line how can you use any grape juice no it has to be a proper wine with certain alcohol content and no sulfites so we don't understand these things to be proper they have to be properly prepared as do you when you're coming in you have to start preparing at home for the mass if you're not properly prepared you are not going to be transformed into mass just like the bread the wine will not be I remember coming to Mass and my dad got a fight in the parking lot is that properly prepared for my No so the mass comes all right now when we say formally when does the mass begin it begins with what either the entrance antiphon or an opening song so if we don't sing the priest will come up and he will read for instance in today's mass let my prayer come into your presence incline your ear to my cry for help Oh Lord okay now if it's a song that suffice is to so the priest processes up the aisle and he may be with a deacon or kinsella braiding priests or altar servers but what's the first thing he does when he comes around he reads the entrance antiphon or if it's singing what's the first thing he does venerates the altar because it's both the table and a cross table for the meal across for the sacrifice now singing if we're doing the opening song singing brings unity as one community I just said it we need to sing you know I remember when I was in seminary father lira god bless him he said you know brother Chris you really should not sing and I said father Larry Augustine st. Augustine said he who sings prays twice and father Larry said no he said he who sings well praised wise but when we sing we do this then we kiss the altar right and this is the table in the cross now what is the next thing the priest does oh come on sign of the Cross in the name of Father Son Holy Spirit no do this with meaning what are we doing here we are signing we sign ourselves we are both body and spirit and we name God as the reason we are here in the name of the Father we are here in the name of the son we are here in the name of the Holy Spirit we are here we do this now do we have any Cowboys here anybody from Calgary do we have any Calgary Cowboys we have one what do Cowboys do with their cattle they brand um why did the Cowboys brand their cattle as the sign that they belong to him when you do the sign of the Cross you are branding you are branding yourself you are branding your soul so that at the end Matthew 25 says when the end comes or nitrogens Matthew 25 throughout the gospel at the end Satan will come for his God will come from his and there be mass chaos and insane is gonna be trying to take his people with him and in Gaza they're taking his people with him we're not trying he will take his people with him you want to be marked I'm marked my soul is marked I belong to God the under our Father that in this sign of the Cross is marking yourself that I belong to God I'm branding myself and this is what's very important what do we have on our fingers holy water why it reminds us of our baptism we become one with Christ from this celebration we are baptized into this community this is why children infant baptism don't fall for that trap oh I'm gonna let little Johnny decide when he grows up if he wants to be baptized no did you say to little Johnny I'm gonna let you decide when you grow up if you want to be an American citizen or a Canadian citizen know when they're born they're a Canadian citizen or an American citizen did you see little Johnny I'm gonna let you grow up and decide if you want to be a member of our family did you say that to Johnny well little Johnny I'll let you decide if you want to grow up and be a member of our family no in fact when I was seven I told my mom that I wanted to write a letter to the newspaper looking for a new family and God bless my mom mother Mary she sat down with me to help me draft the letter and she said why Christie you want a new family say because you like my sister better than me I don't get to go fishing on Saturdays dad makes me work I do that you make me do this you do that I want a new family so my mom's helping me draft the letter and my dad comes by and I had shelled a bunch of peanuts and I used to not eat my penis one at a time I would show a whole pile and then I would eat the peanuts from the whole pile and I got the peanuts stacked up there and my dad says what are you doing and my mom says Chris is writing a letter to the newspaper looking for a new family well you could imagine my politically correct father he comes by grabs all the peanuts off the table eat some and says you don't change the family God puts you into you don't so when we baptize we baptize because that child is bringing brought into this family by God and whether he likes it or not and this is not a choice it's an honor it's a gift do you say somebody who gives you a some beautiful kind of gift that you really need you accept it that's the whole point and so we don't wait for Johnny to determine if he wants to be a member of our family he's born into our family that doesn't change I was born in automatically became an American citizen I didn't yell at age five that I don't want to be an American citizen make me Russian you don't do that and so the holy water reminds us of our baptism no matter what age okay after the sign of the Cross what do you respond amen what does that mean I believe I believe the priest leads in prayer but it's not him praying without you he's praying with you the Amen makes it you're pray or two now what happens after the Amen the priest steps and he risked his hands what is this what's the purpose of this this is a traditional form of Jewish prayer the priest would his hands are here the Iran's position the prayer for position this is a traditional form of Jewish prayer and he will read what's called the colic why we call it it's the opening prayer why do we call it a colic because you collect yourself you collect yourself so it's called the colic right all right now actually I'm sorry I skipped a part before the name of the Father Son Holy Spirit I'm sorry skip the part and you said and you say Amen what do I say the Lord be with you this is very important the Lord be with you why because we are establishing that God is here present and what do you say and with your spirit yes he is here father and I acknowledge it God is here now do we make this up no this is second Timothy 4:20 to the Lord be with your spirit this is right out of Scripture is why we change the translation back in 2011 is because it now matches Scripture now we will say that many more times in the mass so I am I am it's important that I will come back to when we say that now I'm sorry I jumped ahead on the colic I should not have brought that up yet after I say this the Lord be with you and you say with your spirit and and you basically are acknowledging God is here present right this is very important what do we do next what do we do next come on the penitential writes the penitential right so the priest says brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries now there's a couple of ways to do it what's the confiteor I confess to Almighty God to you my brothers and sisters that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words what I have done and what I have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault right and and I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord our God then I say may Almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life and you go like this right no you do not make the sign of the Cross there why do you not make the sign of the Cross there what's going on in the penitential right now I just gave one example the confiteor I could have said lord have mercy you know you say lord have mercy then I say Christ have mercy Christ have mercy lord have mercy what is going on here this is the penitential right why are we doing this okay let me back up when you go to confession do you have to confess every sin you can remember hurt a split decision yes or no no you do not have to confess every single sin you could ever remember because you'd never get out of confession you must confess every grave sin you can remember don't fall into this trap that you withhold one particular grave sin you know this woman came to me at a mission it wasn't long ago or it was long ago I'm sorry but I tell the story all the time and she confessed a grave sin she committed 24 years earlier now I said god bless you ma'am welcome back to confession after 24 years Heaven's rejoicing she said no I come every month and I said well god bless you ma'am you must have just remembered this sin and that's wonderful if you just remember grave sin isn't it good practice to come to confession yes if you just remember grave sin that you did something stupid in college you come to confession that's a good practice she says no she said I didn't just remember it I've always known I committed it I said well god bless you ma'am but you know you don't have to keep confessing the same sin I get this all the time you do not confess the same sin unless you've committed it again because you're not trusting in God's forgiveness if you've confessed that sin and you are contrite which most of you are you are forgiven now if you are forgiven you don't need to confess that sin she says no she says I have not confessed it before I'm running out of options here I said god bless you ma'am but heavens rejoicing but can I ask you why are you now confessing this sin she says because I've always been too embarrassed to confess the sin but you look like a pretty easy priest now I don't know if that's a compliment or not but every one of her confessions for 24 years is invalid everyone why because you must confess every grave sin you can remember now if you have grave sin please go to confession now what about every venial sin do you have to confess every venial sin you ever commit do you have to confess earlier today when I was running long and you were hungry father will you wrap this up already we're getting tired we're hungry father can you get finished with this now do you have to confess that yes no just can't just of course not you do not have to confess every venial say now is that a good thing if you do yes it is please I'm not telling you not to do it but what I'm saying is don't run yourself crazy if you do you know why Martin Luther left the church it wasn't because of selling indulgences Martin Luther left the church because he thought he was going to hell by Catholic teaching if he didn't confess every single sin he ever committed those he couldn't remember and those he could remember that he absolutely either didn't say or we're vino and he could there were so many if you can't remember honestly commit excuse me if you can't honestly remember sin is it forgiving in confession yes yes it is forgiving now Martin Luther thought every single sin he ever committed he had to confess that's not true so he left the church saying I can't belong to religion that it's going to condemn me to hell because I didn't confess every single sin even those I can't remember well neither can i but that's not what the church teaches what a shame the whole Protestant Reformation came about because of a man a Catholic priest Martin Luther was a Catholic priest that didn't know his own teaching of the church that's why he left the Catholic Church scrupulous 'ti so if you have a venial sin yes it's good to confess it but don't eat yourself alive if you don't why where are they forgiving in the mass in the penitential right I confess to Almighty God or Lord of Mercy our sins and bring us to everlasting life you've just been forgiven so if you say well I can't come to communion because I have not I'm not purified yes you're right if you've got gray sin on your soul and you haven't been to confession but if you've been to confession for grave sin you've just not been forgiven a venial sin you are completely spotless as long as you don't sin sitting in the pew between the penitential right and the offertory okay okay okay okay father okay so this is the importance of what's going on in the pen tent penitential right now when i say lord have mercy where does that come from this is scriptural Tobit 8 verse 4 let us pray that the Lord may have mercy upon us then when I say Christ have mercy where does that come from Jude 1 verse 21 we wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ Christ have mercy then what about lord have mercy again go back to Matthew 20 31 lord have mercy on us son of David all of this mass is scriptural there is more mass excuse me there's more scripture in 1 weekday Catholic Mass than any Sunday Protestant service period period there is more scripture in a weekday Catholic Mass than any Sunday Protestant service period and we're gonna go see this all right if it's a Sunday Mass what do I do next after the penitential Rite is over may Almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life what comes next the Gloria now what are we doing the Gloria this is the what the angels sung at the birth of Jesus this is also a song giving praise to the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit this is an important race let's look at it glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will right out of the missile right ah right out of Luke 2:14 glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among men with whom he is well pleased comes right out of the Bible this missile this mass is scriptural then then we finished the Gloria what comes next now we're at the College now the priest says let us pray so he raises his hands in the traditional Jewish form of prayer right and he begins with the colic which means to collect yourselves all right and he starts with the let us pray and the prayer that he reads like today Almighty and merciful God graciously keep us from all adversity so that in hindered and mind and body alike we may pursue in freedom of heart the things that are yours these are particular to the season or the particular Saint whatever it might be this is the column okay now what begins the two major parts of the mass what is the first part of the mass Liturgy of the word so here we are now we're in the Liturgy of the word and the Liturgy of the word is what we enter it into the mass what we just covered is the introductory rites so we just covered the introductory rites we renounce that God is here in spirit now we get to the Liturgy of the world and this is important because now jesus is coming inward we hear the actual words of Christ now the Liturgy of the word consists of how many readings everybody says three four you have the Old Testament which is usually a foretelling of the coming of the Savior then we have the response oral song that comes from Scripture then we have usually the second reading where do the second readings usually come from the epistles what is an epistle my seventh-grader when I asked them set a baby apostle an epistle is the letters right that Peter wrote or Paul wrote the epistles those are usually the second being and then we have the gospel now here's what's important okay when we get ready to read the gospel okay we have a gospel acclamation this is a little goes along with the Alleluia why do we do it the gospel acclamation we acclaim God to the world we sing the Alleluia and we rise why do we rise because the Alleluia is a joyful word praise God we are joyful season now do we say this in Lent no because that's a penitent you'll season it's not joy this sets two tone for Advent excuse me for the gospel and gives us the theme of the gospel now why do you stand for the gospel important because we're hearing now the words of Christ himself this is important when an important person as I said and there's the room we rise in a sign of respect when you are before the court when the judge walks in what do they say all rise all right very important all right now Jesus is now even more present than he was before because in the beginning of the mass we said he's present in spirit now we say same thing the Lord be with you and with your spirit because what are we now saying the Lord be with you but why are we repeating it we already said the Lord be with you why are we saying it again because the first time we said the Lord be with you he's here in spirit now we are saying the Lord be with you he's here in word he's actually here in the words we are gonna hear his own words he's coming into the room so he first was president spirit now he's present in word and then sue and I'm gonna say it again and it's when Jesus is present in flesh the body and blood that's what I'm gonna say it again but we'll get to that so important Jesus is the Living Word why do we call him a word why do we call Jesus the word he's the word of what the word of well God He is God but who is he the word of the Father you want to know how to think of the Trinity the Trinity is confusing but I explained it to my seventh graders which I think they get and as I said to them guys I want you to listen if you want to know the Trinity think of yourself for a minute we are a little miniature mini version of the Trinity because when God the Father stinks when he thinks he speaks and when he speak what comes is the world so the father when he thinks of himself he speaks and out comes the word the word is the Sun the Sun right proceeds from the father now can you speak a word without a breath you can't the breath is the Holy Spirit the power behind the word you can't speak without thinking unless you're me I always speak before I think but you are to think God the father thinks then he speaks what comes forth is the word the Sun but the Sun does not come forth without a breath we need the Holy Spirit so you know what when when we we talk about this mass this mass incorporates the three great mercies of God the three great acts of mercy by God are all encompassed you see I can give you four years of seminary in four minutes we have the Trinity the Trinity now in the Trinity you have Father Son and Holy Spirit now the first great act of mercy ever by God was creation why because it is a misery not to exist when God brought us into existence it was a mercy so here you have the Trinity that totally for all eternity lived in complete love and harmony now one day God decided I'm gonna let this love that's within the Trinity overflow outside of the Trinity so all from the Trinity came forth the first great act of mercy from the Trinity is creation now who of the Trinity Father Son or Holy Spirit do we normally attribute creation the father so you have the Trinity the first great act of mercy from the first person of the Trinity is creation we were all created now all creation got broken it took us ten minutes ten minutes it's like the mother telling her son go out and play didn't I take you five minutes to get dirty we did we got broken so in the second grade act of mercy the second person of the Trinity came down Redemption he fixed the brokenness we got broke God fixed it now here's the question why did God become man because man messed up messed up and screwed up and got broken well then man if he broke himself has to fix himself okay that's true but the the brokenness is so big only God can fix it but the problem is God can't fix it because he's not the one who broke it man broken so we need both a man to fix what he broke in God to have the power to fix it because it's so broken hence the god man hence the god man this is why God became incarnate man broke himself so it gonna be a man's needed to fix it but it's so broken that only God can fix it but the problem is is it going to be a man who fixes it or is gonna be God who fixes it the problem is both my man and God has to fix it but that's what we didn't have until Jesus Christ then we were given a god man to fix it and the fact that he was God and man in his nature right not his person now man got broken 2nd great act of mercy God sent down his son he redeems us he fixes us we are redeemed we are fixed but we're not yet sanctified so in the third and the final and the greatest act of mercy guess who the Holy Spirit takes this redeemed mankind and brings it back to god the father repaired he's the ultimate Maytag repairman he just fixed Christ redeemed us he fixed us but the Holy Spirit is the delivery truck it takes us back to God the Father from which we came this is the whole essence of our faith you want to know our whole faith according to Thomas Aquinas he wrote the most amazing work ever written in my opinion the Summa Theologica the whole faith can be summarized in a circle all came from God all will return to God EXCI tous ready to all comes from God all will return to God all came from God creation we got broken second act of mercy God came down fixed us redemption now in the third and the final and the greatest act of mercy the Holy Spirit will return us back to God the Father fixed repaired and better than we ever were before do you ever remember some of you I was young the Six Million Dollar Man better stronger faster than he ever was before his accident before his accident he was just this after his accident he's made this this is why I said earlier who's hired the angel erm an angel is but man by grace by the Incarnation was now elevated above the angel he's better stronger faster he's now the sixth quad zillion mild Million Dollar Man because we've been sanctified we've been sanctified by the Holy Spirit now the Holy Spirit is going to take us back to God the Father from where we came where does this happen when does this happen the topic of today's talk the Mass this happens at the mass this is what's going on the mass is where this whole circle is completed we have to understand this this is why if you want to know God the Father which is where we came from and our ultimate goal to get back to what does scripture tell us the only way we're going to know the Father through the Sun this is why in his apostolic letter or was an encyclical Pope Francis gave us Misericordia of all tubes the face of the father's mercy he said if you can somehow encapsulate the father if you can somehow take the mercy of the Father and make it visible you have this this is the face of the father's mercy you only know the father through the son now how do you know the son Jesus tells us in Scripture is very clear there's only one way to know him how do we know the son through the Holy Spirit Jesus made it very clear if I don't ascend to the Father and send you the Holy Spirit send you the Paraclete nothing's gonna work here nothing you have to know the son to know the father but if you want to know the son you got to know the Holy Spirit so Jesus sent the Holy Spirit on Pentecost for us to know Christ through the Holy Spirit the puzzles were still lost until they were given the Holy Spirit now how do you know the Holy Spirit through his spouse Mary she's the quasi incarnation of the Holy Spirit doesn't mean she's the actual Holy Spirit walking around in flesh and blood she's not the Incarnation but she's the quasi incarnation is what is said to us by Maximilian Kolbe a she's like the Holy Spirit in the flesh quasi like so you all want to get back to God the Father from which you came you need to know the son you want to know the son you need to know the Holy Spirit you want to know the Holy Spirit start with his spouse Mary now you want to get back to God the Father go back the same way he came start with Mary start with Mary leader to her son through the power of the Holy Spirit you get to know the Holy Spirit he lead you to the son and where does the son take you back to the Father when does that happen right here at the mass the mass is God offering God to God God the Holy Spirit offering God the Son - and I'm starting probably shouting - loud for you God the Holy Spirit offering God the Son to God the Father for all eternity that's what's happening at the mass this mass is God offering God to God you think your prayer at home is important it is it's a starting point but do you ever hear these yo-yos tell you that I don't need Church I'm spiritual I'm not religious Oh father I'm not into organized religion that's too bad because Jesus organized religion Jesus organized religion Jesus gave us he anointed and ordained the first apostle or excuse me the Apostles who became the first bishops he gave them the power toward Dean the next priests he gave them the power to forgive sins this is where I kneel everybody I see when you go into that confessional I always say is it the priest who forgives your sins everybody says no yes yes it is it's in Persona Christi the grace comes from God but it is the priest who forgives the sins in that confessional why do we know this turn to Matthew 18:18 John 20:21 Matthew 16:19 Matthew 18:18 John 20:21 whose sins you forgive are forgiven who sins you retain are retained well wait a minute father they were just speaking symbolically no who had ultimate authority to forgive sins on this in this earth Jesus if he had ultimate authority to give sins that also means he has the authority to delegate it when I started my business in North Carolina I had ultimate authority I could do whatever I wanted I started it I funded it I built it I had ultimate authority but when I would go away on a business trip I'd say Brian while I'm gone you're in charge is there somebody to pay you pay if there's a bill to pay you pay it is there somebody to hire you hire if there's somebody to fire you while I'm gone you're in charge did he do anything to deserve that no I built it I funded it I started it not him I had ultimate authority but I also had the power to delegate it to him Jesus had ultimate authority to forgive sin which also means he has the power to delegate that Jesus can delegate that authority and he did to the first priests who sins you forgive are forgiven so don't think that you're not forgiven when you go into that confessional if that priest says you are God the Father of mercies by the death and resurrection of his son is reconciled the word to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins through the Ministry of the church may God give you pardon and peace and i absolve you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit that Grace doesn't come from me that grace comes from God but it goes through me who paints the house you or the brush who paints the house you or the brush [Music] hmm the brush is the tool by which that house was painted the priest is the tool by which that sin is forgiven and so when you go to confession in the priesthood you are forgiven you are guaranteed forgiveness there's no wondering am i forgiven there's no hoping maybe I'm forgiven when that priest says you are forgiven you are guaranteed forgiveness or Jesus is a liar and nobody's gonna claim Matt's now I totally forgot where I'm at in the mass here okay now in this the mass is God offering God to God your personal prayer is important it's a starting point but sorry it's imperfect your prayer in your room in your house is imperfect why because you have sinned you have sinned and it blinds us and that sin that sin makes our prayer imperfect it's still necessary but it's imperfect when you come to Mass this prayer is perfect why because it's God offering God to God God the Holy Spirit offering God the Sun in reparation for our sins and since the whole world to God the Father who are the prayers of the mass addressed to everybody says Jesus they are addressed to the father they are dressed to the Father by the sacrifice of the son through the power of the Holy Spirit that's why this mass is perfect because it is perfect and what's going on the mass you are the perfect participant when you go to Mass this is what's going on here do you have any idea do you have any clue do you know if I ask some of you when you were married you might tell me off father I was married on August 29th 1976 beautiful but do you know that every time you come up this aisle in the mass you are making your wedding march you are making your wedding march in the the wedding feast of the Lamb which is throughout scripture you want to know the whole Bible the whole Bible I can tell you in one summary the Bible starts with a wedding and the Bible ends with wedding the Bible starts with the wedding of the union of man and a woman Adam and Eve in the covenant of marriage the Bible begins with a wedding and the Bible ends with a wedding what is the last book of the Bible revelation is it about the rapture in the Antichrist no the Antichrist isn't even mentioned the book of Revelation and the rapture is not even a real thing that was created by a dream of a teenage girl in the UK in the 1830s the rapture is not even it is not people say well father we just had the reading about one is that the male one has taken what is left in Scott Hahn says well actually got the rapture completely backwards they used Noah's example it wasn't the good taken it was the good who was left in the Noah in the in the in the flood the bad were taken the good were laugh they got completely backwards that's because there is no rapture it's not scriptural so in the book of Revelation it's not about none of that what does the book of Revelation about the mass the wedding feast of the Lamb the book begins with AB wedding and it ends with a wedding the Bible is a love story and then the whole love story the groom is trying to call back his bride she's been unfaithful and he's calling her back and he wants to go all the way back to the purification of the wedding and so when you come forward you you come forward this is your wedding now in the church tradition who's the groom Jesus who's the bride the church who's the church we are so when you come forward you are the bride now in any Catholic Mass when the bride comes forward up this altar or this aisle everybody stands it's a huge boom and who's waiting for the bride when she gets to the altar her groom and the two are united and later that night the groom enters into the bride what happens at the Catholic Mass you come forward you are the bride who's waiting for you at the altar your groom and what happens the groom enters into you the bride its consummated the groom physically enters the groom into you the bride just like at the wedding the wedding night the groom physically enters into the bride and the two become one you're here at the wedding as the groom enters into your the bride and you're just gonna pose you do you have any idea what's going on here this is what's going on at the mass and in in in in in the Hall of heaven and earth are united in this in fact how many guardian angels you all got guess how many I got two you only got one guardian angel I got two why do priests need two guardian angels we need we need um please pray for your priests and so that the Mystics tell us that during Mass your guardian angels come forward and they bring forth vessels and in the vessels they are caring they they they needle around the altar at the moment of consecration and the Mystics tell us that your guardian angels are all surrounding the altar and they're holding vessels what's in the vessel of your guardian angel what you put into it oh but father I don't get anything out of the mass the mass is about what you put not about what your entertainment I'm not gonna ride a unicycle and juggle the mass is not about your entertainment the mass is about what you bring in worship and God tells us how to worship he gave us this in Scripture this is how we worship Him and so when you come forward your guardian angels come forward they new around the altar and they bring up the vessel and what's in that vessel what you put into it your hopes your dreams your joys your sorrows and that vessel is going to be brought by the guardian angels and United with the priest who's in Persona Christi on to this pattern and then it is going to be offered back to God the Father so what's happening is this cycle is completed all of creation is here present at the mass creation first great act of mercy redemption you are here now people ask me all the time are I ask people why did Jesus died on the cross to redeem us but yeah he could have redeemed us from heaven he's God he didn't need to die on a cross well why did Jesus died on the cross to forgive our sins true but he could have forgiven our sins from heaven he's God okay we're getting warmer okay why did Jesus died on the cross those are all true but you forget the big one the penalty for sin is death when you sin or I sin we deserve to die and so when you sin and I sin we deserve the death penalty we deserve eternal death but God has stepped in in our place and died for us so this is why we see well this is the risen Christ but the crucifix right up there this is why at the mass we have Christ on the cross Protestants say to us all the time why do you crazy Catholics keep Jesus on that cross Jesus ain't on that cross no more why do you crazy Catholics keep crucifying him at every Mass my first night in North Carolina I'm at Walmart buying house supplies and I have a Benedict cross on corpus of Jesus right here crucifix cereal and I have the Benedict cross on which as the corpus of Jesus I'm wearing around my neck I'm in North Carolina god bless this lady she comes up to me she sees me in the Iowa she says you must be Catholic and I said yeah how would you know she says why do you crazy Catholics keep recruit a fiying Christ my jesus is risen my Jesus ain't on that cross no more jesus is risen he's not on that cross no more thank goodness my Jesus ain't on that cross no more my jesus is risen and I say to her man it was from your Christmas time and I said man that's very well placet I got to ask you you know you must be van Jellico yeah I said do you have by chance a nativity scene we call them Catholics we called nativity scenes and she says yeah and I said and in it she cuz not only do I have one at home I have one at work and they're not telling me to take it away from work and I said okay good I said you have a little nativity scene and she said yeah and I said you got the animals and the camel and the donkey and she says yeah and I said you got the wisemen bringing the gifts frankincense gold and myrrh yeah and you got Joseph and and Mary and she says yeah and I said you got the little baby Jesus in the crib she says yeah and I says man Jesus ain't in that crib no more [Laughter] she's look at me like what the point is we don't recruit a PHY Christ when you come to Mass how many times did Jesus die once then why are we showing him on that cross are weary crucifying him are the prayers of the master sounds like to me riri crucifying him you ever read the prayers on passion Sunday as it sound like we're we crucify in Jesus what's going on what is going on is you are at Calvary in the mass Pope Benedict sells us the spirit of the liturgy the roof opens up and heaven and earth ascend a decent and it's the only time when historical time our time tick-tock joins with sacred time God's time because he's outside of time and heaven and earth unite for God this is in the book if you haven't gotten the book we found a new box if you still if you still run out I think we have a few left you can sign a list but in the book we talk God is outside of time there's no pass for God there's no future for God if this is if this is Adam and Eve to the end of the world God sees it all instantaneously at once there is no pass for God there is no future for God everything and I'm running out of time is one big eternal moment in this understanding comes the mass and in the mass in the mass we have everything because at the mass you are at Calvary you are at Calvary when you are at the mass as Christ is paying your debt for sin what does the debt for sin Paul tells us Paul says the wage of sin is death and when you come to Mass you aren't there this is Calvary this is why every sanctuary is lifted and you are the people at the foot of the cross you are at Calvary when you are at mass you are at the foot of the cross as Jesus is paying your debt to sin you too busy I've got too much going on what about that scripture passage where the guy says I just bought some land consider me excused I just bought a business consider me excused the other guy says I just got married consider me excused well that might be acceptable but but he goes back and he tells the King what does the King say oh I understand they're just too busy maybe next time is that what the King says the King it says was infuriated he says away with them into the fire bringing those who want to be here this is what God does he offers it and then if you rejected he goes on to the next one don't let that happen accept this grace of the Cross which is what the mass is about all right so now again oh boy oh boy oh boy okay so as we as we now read the gospel the priest reads the gospel right now if there's a deacon and a priest it sounds like a joke right a deacon and a priest walk into a bar alright there's a deacon a priest and a con celebrating priest who's the first one to read the gospel the now if there's only a priest in the consulate braiding priest who reads the gospel the Kinsella braiding priest now this is very important ok so now he goes up there and he reads the gospel now let's keep going here all right all right all right now the the Deacon will read the gospel ahead of the priest and the kinsella braiding priest as well now I'm gonna have to skip this whole section here because the Deacon comes and gets a blessing the priest actually gives a blessing over the deacon if he doesn't have a deacon he comes and he asked for the cleansing of my heart and lips that I made were thoroughly proclaim your holy gospel then he goes to the gospel and he says again the Lord be with you and with your spirit because Christ is coming inward now not just spirit and what do you do why why these three things because God should be first and foremost in your mind on your lips and in your heart this is very important we sign our lips our forehead and our hearts is this is when we open our minds we then share these words with our lips and then we declare in our hearts with all our hearts that Jesus is God all right now after he reads it the priest kisses the Bible right or the Missal I mean the the the the reading why what does he say through the words of the gospel may our sins be wiped away he doesn't see me my sins be wiped away he says me our sins be wiped away and this is very important because all of you is participating now I got three minutes to go do we do a homily is that mandatory is a homily mandatory yes if it's Sunday a Sunday homily is mandatory during the week it is not a shortest homily ever saw father Michael clay in my community god bless him he went up there he didn't prepare homily and he goes fire that was this whole homily okay but a homily why do we do a homily it's in the Bible second Timothy four verse one I charge you in the presence of God and of Jesus Christ to preach the word be urgent in season and out of season convinced get this one rebuke and the extort without failing this in patience and in teaching basically don't beat up your priest because he teaches the truth I the shrine of divine mercy have a good congregation so I can preach against gay marriage I preach against abortion I preach against euthanasia I preach against embryonic stem-cell research I preach against human cloning I preach against all these things contraception I preach against all of them but but I'm telling you the time is coming and pray for your own nation Canada because I think it's even here even more prevalent than it is in the u.s. it's coming there's gonna come a time where this priest is gonna go to jail and with the mouth as big as I've got I will probably go to jail and when I said that at Divine Mercy Sunday everybody cheered I'm like gee thanks and so is so please pray for your priests okay all right now real quick what is the difference the homily is to be done by anyone no just ordained clergy not even a nun can do a homily sorry sisters but but there's so much more they can do remember the church is not sexist in fact the church here this priest is in Persona Christi this is true but I got to ask you and no offense to any diocesan priests but what's a higher calling in a vocational way of life not to do with confection the Eucharist but a higher calling and a vocational way of life a diocesan priest or a cloistered nun a cloistered nun it's a higher calling in a vocational way of life sacraments aside because Jesus told Mary and Martha Mary is the contemplative Martha was the Apostolic he said mary has chosen the better half this is a higher calling so don't beat up your church because she is sexist it's just different this is why the Saints having a field day with transgenderism he wants everybody to think everything's the same he wants to confuse you sayings were to use pride his first great tool he then went to fear his second great tool now he's on to confusion if he can confuse the most very essence of your entire being if your maleness or your femaleness if he can confuse that he can fuse anything and so don't let this fall on all right I'm almost done I'm almost done all right what's the difference between a homily in a sermon a homily is about a particular passage in the scripture that you talk about that passage a sermon is about a general topic with which you pull in all kinds of different scripture pass so the Protestants through sermons we do homilies why because I think it's easier to do a homily so the priest will read on a specific passage and he will talk about that okay all right all right very good all right so last if it's a Sunday we'll finish here the Creed the profession of faith this is a statement of the Apostles faith it leads us to our faith in the Trinity let's go through it real real quick the priests and the people say I believe in one God the Father Almighty maker of heaven and earth was that made up know Genesis 14 19 God Most High maker of heaven and earth then he goes on of all things visible and invisible where does that come from Colossians 1:16 for in him all things were created in heaven and on earth visible and invisible then we go on I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God this comes from Luke 1:35 there for the child to be born shall be called holy the Son of God then he goes on begotten not made consubstantial with the father what does that mean they are one substance that's John 10:30 i and the father are one then we go on he will come again in glory to judge the living of the Dead where does that come from 2nd Timothy chapter 4 verse 1 our charge you in the presence of God to judge the living and the dead I'm sorry I charge you in the presence of God and of Jesus Christ who is to judge the living and the dead that's right from Scripture I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church what is Catholic mean Universal that comes from Romans 2:5 so we though many are one body in Christ Universal that's the meaning of the word Catholic alright finally the concrete the Creed concludes with our belief in the resurrection from the dead and eternal life in heaven we have to pray this because we can't know this on our own this is why people say I'll pray on my own amounts you can't know this on your own this was only given by the mystery of gods through revelation to the church this is how we know and then we finally finish this part with the universal prayer this is prayers of the faithful or the intentions why do we have intercessions because of Philippians 1 3 I think God in all my remembrance of you always and everywhere in every prayer of mine for you its intercession when the church is gathered we must pray for the whole church and the world because we're United in the intercessions we have an order we first pray for the church then the world then the government and the sick of the suffering then specific needs than the deceased I know you're all Canadian I'm American the problem with what's going on right now is that it's been found out and has been revealed that the Wiccans around the world these are witches people think this is funny Oh president Trump deserves it my gosh are you kidding me do you have any idea on the 13th of every month they are gathering together to place curses on Donald Trump now regardless of what you think of this man regardless of how you he bugs you to death or how uncouth or whatever it might be the point is to have anybody place a curse on the leader of the free world whether you like him or not and we laugh about it or say he deserves it we are responsible because we have to pray for our government leaders you here have the similar thing with Trudeau we pray for him pray for him this these these are times where we need prayer so we must pray for the protection priest can't believe I pray for Donald Trump I do a Mass every month for Donald Trump I should do one for Trudeau right and so so this is the point of the intercessions [Music] you
