this is your daily news report it's a friday may 21st i'm going to provide you with the fourth stimulus check update the number of politicians in congress demanding a fourth stimulus check has now increased to 80. fidelity is reporting that retirement account balances are now greater than they were pre-pandemic the republicans and democrats they are negotiating the 4.1 trillion dollar spending bill the democrats are saying that if they don't make enough progress by may 31st then they're going to pass the bill without the republicans the israelis and palestinians they have agreed to cease fire food prices are surging around the world more people are going hungry and is causing social and political unrest in many countries this is your friday news happy friday and i hope you're having a very nice day let's begin with the fourth stimulus check update in march and in april a few democratic politicians were demanding a fourth stimulus check they're demanding it again in may and this time it has grown to 80 democratic politicians seven of those democrats in the house ways and means committee sent president biden a new letter demanding a for stimulus check to be included in the upcoming 4.1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill the letter says families and workers shouldn't have to worry if they're going to have enough money to pay for essentials in the months ahead as the country continues to fight a global pandemic and a recession they are arguing that we still have 10 million americans that are unemployed and not everyone qualifies for unemployment benefits or the monthly child tax credit payments they also mentioned the previous stimulus checks kept 12 million americans out of poverty but president biden already has said that he's going to leave it to congress to decide the fate of the fourth stimulus check but the leaders of the democrats in congress nancy pelosi and chuck schumer they have not expressed support for a fourth stimulus check so i just wanted to clarify the status of the for stimulus check because people are still curious about it the google search query for fourth stimulus check pass today is extremely popular even though for stimulus check is not in any of the upcoming bills but over 2.2 million people have signed the petition calling for a forced stimulus check which has been referenced by the politicians so we'll see what happens and i'll keep you updated during the pandemic the stock market has been doing very well retirement accounts are now above pre-pandemic levels this is information provided by fidelity the largest provider of 401ks in the us the average 401k balance reached 123 900 in march of this year during the first three months of 2021 17 of workers increased their contributions into their retirement accounts which is more than any previous quarter the number of 401ks and iras with over a million dollars hit an all-time record high in the first three months of this year fidelity says they have 365 000 401k accounts and 307 000 ira accounts that have over a million dollars in them this has doubled from just one year ago in political news the republicans and democrats they are negotiating the 4.1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill the republicans initially offered 568 billion dollars and then they offered a new proposal on wednesday the new proposal focuses just on physical infrastructure the republicans are offering to spend 400 billion dollars the democrats official response was the 400 billion dollar republican offer has not significantly changed from their previous offer the biden administration says they're going to keep on negotiating the leader of the republicans in the senate mitch mcconnell said the republicans will oppose any bill that will raise corporate taxes or terminates the 2017 tax cuts mcconnell said if they're willing to settle on a targeted infrastructure bill without revisiting the 2017 tax bill will work together mcconnell says anything above 2 trillion dollars will not have any republican supports the biden administration said if the negotiations are not making progress by the end of may then the democrats will pass the bill without republican support by using a special process known as reconciliation the democrats introduced the bill in the house of representatives the bill would give businesses a tax break for hiring certain types of employees businesses would receive a 5 000 tax break per employee for hiring women people of color people with disabilities veterans or ex-felons so basically if you are a white male and you don't have any disabilities and you're not an ex-felon or a veteran then you are left out basically this bill incentivizes businesses to hire everyone except you so i never said my opinion about this bill i'm just giving you the facts without sugarcoating it congressman stephen horsford said this bill will make the largest difference for those hit the hardest by pandemic unemployment including people of color young workers women people with disabilities veterans and underserved communities in international news the fighting between the israelis and palestinians has ended in a mutually agreed upon ceasefire after 11 days of fighting a hamas official said the mutual and simultaneous truce begins on friday at 2 a.m local time president biden thanked the president of egypt for helping to negotiate the truce biden said i believe the palestinians and the israelis equally deserve to live safely and securely and enjoy equal measures of freedom prosperity and democracy over 200 palestinians have died including more than 100 women and children 12 israelis have died including two children the price of food is surging around the world it's creating hunger problems and social and political unrest according to the united nations food prices have increased 33 over the past 12 months the price of corn is up 67 over the past year the price of sugar has increased by 60 percent the price of cooking oil has doubled the united nation says prices have been increasing steadily over the past 11 months these are reports coming from brazil to argentina to pakistan to ethiopia the chief economist at the united nations said what is unique about this time is that prices are going up and at the same time people's income have been decimated the combination of the two rising prices and no purchasing power is the most lethal thing you can deal with in current events drone aircrafts for personal use are causing a real big headache for federal and state agencies the price of drones they've calmed down substantially over the past few years and they're becoming much more advanced now the pilot can stand four miles away from the drone and still operate it drones are now being used for a variety of uses people are using drones to transport illegal drugs across the border and for everyday delivery in phoenix people coordinated a swarm of drones to harass a nuclear station officials called it dronapalooza and los angeles international airport they get about 700 unauthorized drones flying in their airspace a month which causes flight delays regulators are working on technology to pick up the drone's radio frequency so they can locate the drone pilots more research is being conducted on how much caffeine is too much caffeine researchers are saying that it depends on your lifestyle and your genetics for example if you're a smoker then your liver metabolizes caffeine twice as fast as a non-smoker so if you're a smoker you can drink caffeine later in the evening and still be okay to sleep for women taking oral contraceptives it takes twice as long to metabolize caffeine the fda says you should limit your caffeine intake to 400 milligrams a day an 8 ounce cup of coffee has 100 milligrams of caffeine and they recommend not consuming more than 200 milligrams per sitting if you get tremors or suddenly feel nervous or your heart rate changes you probably drink too much caffeine and i wanted to leave you with some interesting news we were talking about retirement accounts and the stock market earlier so i just wanted to
