you're boisterous crazy hasn't lost any of her spunk especially in this weather oh gosh tree hugger tree hugger you just go down otherwise she's gonna absolutely hammer me meggy you love the cold weather hey i don't like the cold weather but you love it okay you're going to just jump in or you're going to be naughty you want to jump in today yeah i know you yeah i know you i know okay we're gonna have to ask somebody to lure you in with a piece of meat thanks brenton will you just you can just take a piece of meat and offer it to there and she'll just jump in there we go well done magelli and then just bring her across with the piece there we go all right so we're going to move meg to a new area um it's actually the bigger enclosure right next to the orchid enclosure but i'm gonna just get out of the wind to explain in more detail what is going on because there are big things happening here today at the sanctuary ah after out the wind all right that's better warmer in the car oh um it's about eight degrees here today and windy windy windy so what is going on guys sure where do i begin um it's been a hectic few weeks and um yeah let me just go back a bit so a couple of weeks back we had to unfortunately put unarti down um suffering from a bad spondylosis spondylolisthesis um of of the thoracic region of his spine [Music] it was largely age-related it has also a lot to do with being a white lion we think that they tend to suffer from these kind of diseases more than the the other lions and united was just starting to really suffer the effects of of his condition and with winter coming it just exacerbated everything to the point where united wasn't um he wasn't wanting to eat he wasn't wanting to move and he was just hanging about under the one tree things went from bad to worse with with united so we had to make that difficult uh decision um to put him to sleep so we're going back guys i did video the united um the whole unity saga and i i just said to my team you know sometimes uh these things are just you know are better kept in-house because it's a sensitive um and and and private if if you will um thing that's happening that went with that was going on it was very emotional a lot of people were really upset myself obviously included um and it's just it's just sometimes you feel that it's not something that the world needs to know or that you need to share with the world and it's nothing against my community of followers it's just every now and again i just feel when there is something like that it's just um you want to give united the most dignified kind of send-off that that you can here i am what we have decided is to uh see if there is any chance that we could put meg with icarus because now obviously with the 90s passing we have icarus that's um now living on his own also 16 year old kathy is in good shape and meg as we know is also in good shape so we don't want the two of them living on their own meg kept on her own we didn't really have a choice as to put her with another single individual and because of the attention i could give her and it made sense but now we have two singles that could quite easily be put together with just a little bit of clever thinking and application and you know just utilizing all the knowledge that we've collected collectively over the years it's just going to release meg into this bigger area um icarus is in the area just over there adjacent and then let the two of them kind of get used to each other through the fence i'm gonna just wait here a bit with her and just see what transpires i'm gonna jump over the sun there we go [Laughter] oh no okay close that so she doesn't go back in and then let's just hang around with her for a little period come let's see if you come say hello to ikky oh there's icky another boy oh whoa whoa whoa oh whoa whoa oh oh he's talkative i think he's seen meg they're very intuitive lions definitely seen her now it's just a case of did she see him i don't think she's expecting just to find icarus in an area where she normally finds herself alone but i think two together is going to be a lot better than one and one and the other thing that it does do for us is it frees up um an enclosure which is very important in terms of space for these animals so here she comes oh look look who she's just seen hello hello girl oh a little bit closer than normal but good behaviour oh wow oh oh that's a very good that's a very good interaction very good [Music] oh [Music] oh right so she's chosen to back away from him which is yeah she has the the ability to to do that but he's not been oh nice nice nice singing the odds [Music] so submission from her side was a very good start there wasn't too aggressive two aggressors one was aggressive more aggressive and she just submitted and then she's chosen to back away rather than to confront this wind is not helping things but what i always find quite interesting is how icarus will it be more accepting of a human than you will of a lion it still to this day astonishes me that little old kevin is accepted amongst him and when unarchives around amongst them and yet she sees him as a yeah okay [Music] um [Music] um [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Music] well that's so far so good i mean it's not that vicious attacking the fence and digging and he's actually lying under the tree there which is pretty pretty good pretty good start i was expecting i was expecting a lot more interaction than that so pretty happy with that let me go and see how mega is faring the beauty about what we're doing here guys is we can always um remove one from the other it's not like we have to intervene with veterinary intervention drugs and stuff like that hello my girl oh whoa whoa whoa whoa hello my girl without my girl oh yeah so what she's doing is trying to reaffirm her bonds with me because obviously us is bonding together yes puts us in a better a better position hey to fight icarus should the need be but i don't think there's going to be a need for that mongolia we're all friends yeah okay she comes back to the vehicle uh because she sees the vehicle as a source of safety so this good old trusty truck is her friend and she's always had just positive experiences with the truck so she can't understand why the truck is not opening for her okay so what i'm going to do is get the truck out because we don't really need the truck at the moment hello my sweetheart come in my you're too big and hairy you're too big and hairy [Laughter] just shows she's never too old to roll around on kev it's like your grandmother rolling around on you just doesn't make sense okay we're gonna give you some food there my darling yeah you hide behind the wheel that's a good place good
