okay boys and girls what have we been learning we have been learning about characters and the way they feel right and their traits so somebody raised their hand to tell me what a character is i forgot all right jude what's the character the main person in the story it's who the story is about right okay now let me tell you this we are going to read a different kind of story today it's called a poem does anybody know what a poem is sadie what do you think a poem is i think she is right poems have rhyming words and sounds that are repeating okay so it repeats the same sounds so we're going to read our poem in just a minute but i want to do our i can statement first so i want you to do it after me okay like we did this morning so i can i can compare and contrast and contrast [Music] characters experiences to mine [Music] now does anybody know what compare means compare does anybody think they know what that means ella what do you think if i'm going to compare something what am i going to do like compare like okay so i'm going to compare two things but compare is the same or similar so when we compare something we look for what is the same now what does contrast mean does anybody know if compare means the same contrast means what do you think kate it's different so i'm going to pull up two volunteers up here and we are going to compare and contrast them to make sure we know what our task is okay so i want josie to come stand up here and okay all right so can't you come right here baby now if i'm going to compare these two students what would i say is the same about them well are they is this a boy and a girl no so what is it they're both girls let's see what else is the same about them what do you think jude they're both wearing bows that's excellent what else maybe they are both wearing tennis shoes what else sadie they're both wearing math that is excellent so that is what's similar about these two students now let's look at what's different about them ella what do you say is different she has a jacket on and she doesn't so kate has on my jacket that's excellent what else sadie yes josie has brown hair kate has blonde hair okay can somebody tell me something else my deal what's something different about these two girls they're pants so kate has on leggings and josie has on a skirt that's excellent ed mundo what's something else different they don't have well their shirts are different colors right so kate has on a blue shirt and josie has on a pink shirt so i think we have mastered comparing and contrasting so comparing is what the same so when we compare we look for stuff that is the same and what is contrasting different difference so when we contrast we look for the differences right okay good job that's it now all right so what's our icann statement one more time to make sure we know i can compare and contrast characters experiences to mine now what did i say poems have rhyming words so i'm going to come over here to my poem and the first time i read i want you to look for rhyming words okay so let's turn our listening ears on switch them over all right let me make sure everybody can see before i read let me ask you this let's look at our pictures in this poem and see if we can tell anything about our characters what does this student look like that he's scared that he's scared and messy magdalena what's something else you can um infer about this student okay all right so what about this little girl what do you think she's like she looks silly she looks happy at school she looks happy so what else sadie she looks what pain tidy so she's a neat student right all right so i'm gonna read the first time i read listen for rhyming words okay so we're gonna read about student one first and this is student two now our title is and the answer is question mark what is this a question mark okay are we ready teacher please don't look at me the answer is a mystery have i heard two roman words what are they me mystery me a mystery i'm staring into in the air i'm sliding underneath my chair i'm making myself very small i wish i wasn't here at all my deal teach your teacher pass me by please pick some other guy so what were the rhyming words i heard here me and mystery what about this air and chair smile and all [Music] all right so let's come over here and see what this student is saying teach your teacher call on me i know the answer can't you see there's one a wrap a snap a breeze just look in my direction please i'm almost bouncing off my chair i'm waving both my hands in the air teach your teacher ask me first cause if you don't i think i'll burst ma'am let's pick out the rhyming words in this answer okay what do we see me and v breathe and please air and chair first and first all right so i'm gonna jose what were you going to say so he stay here all right what else is stood at one ella sleepy okay all right nathan what were you gonna say student one if he's really quiet and he doesn't want to be called what's the word to describe that nervous or what shy now we're going to flip on over to student too so what a student too like excited happy i heard excited what else ella happy that she's at school okay we wrote happy what else a student won she is very eager to get called on have any of you ever been eager or you really wanted to answer okay so she's eager what were you going to say jeez tidy that's a neat student her dance gets so neat all right can you think of anything else student two is like ella not shy so outgoing without going very good work all right now real quick let's compare these students um experience here where are they both at school they're both at school now what else is the same about them jay-z so they both have a teacher okay and what else okay that's it that's the difference okay so let's let's compare ourselves to these two characters where are we at school so we're at school what else is how are we like them josie we all have a desk excellent what else kate we all are boys and girls boys and girls sadie what were you going to say that all of us are at school yeah and do you have a teacher so you have experienced some of the same things as these students right now have any of you ever felt messy and scared and sleepy and like you don't want to be called on by the teacher not really not really not really how about you ed have you felt that way where you're kind of shy and sleepy i remember the other day you were a little bit sleepy weren't you okay my deal what about you have you ever been scared and sleepy at school when you didn't want to be caught on no okay well then y'all should all be like student too or you're all excited at school and eager and ready to get called on so how did we say student one and two were the same let's review real quick they were the same because they are weird they're both at school they both have what chancellors they bypass okay and how are they different because one is clean um one of them is shy and nervous and one of them is one of them is very eager now let me tell you about our little activity we are going today i'm going to model it up on the document camera okay let me get our papers i just have a quick question though before i go do this do y'all remember reading about sookie yeah so which student would you be most like like student two why would she be like student to josie because she's not scared and what does she do she she's excited and she doesn't care what anybody thinks does she she's proud at school and she proudly went up there and talked to class about her come on ladies okay now i want you to get in your little head which student are you more like do you think you can do that so get in your head which one you are the most like and i'm gonna show you what we're gonna do okay look up here all right so i'm going to give you a paper all right what do we always put on our paper [Music] yep our name and our lazy dates i'm going to put sarah and my lazy date is 10 7 20. now what was my title does anyone remember what is it kate and the answer is what's [Music] answer is dot dot dot question mark now what does this line say title so our title goes here now next you're going to come down here to this sentence help me read this i am most like student blank because all right so i am most like student too now i'm most like student too because i am outgoing period and i have an extra line if you run out of room okay now up here i'm gonna draw me as student two and draw me some hair and you can color when you're done okay i'm gonna draw my rays in my hand because i'm very eager to get caught on and your drawing doesn't have to be perfect okay just do your best work miss evans is not an artist you're really good all right here's me and i will draw my dance my hands are in the air and then when you get done you're going to color so first you're going to write your title do your sentence and then draw your picture and you can be nice like student one miss evans is just more like student too okay so i'm gonna hand you a paper and you go back to your seat and i'll come around and help you if you need to okay and when you write your reason why you can pull a word from up here so you can say i am most like student one because i am messy i am most like student one because i am shy i am most like student one because i am scared or you can be like student two and say i am most like student too because i'm outgoing i'm most like student too because i am eager so you think you can do it all right so put your name and your title [Music] our title is and the answer is question mark can you say that here i'll write our title up here just in case you get confused and with a big capital a b [Music] so this is your title this is what you got on your line okay can you see all right we're doing x let's write your title by two okay and the answer is all right so what's your experience i am blessed like student two why so here's the words down here because i am are you happy excited eager tiny outgoing because i am okay maybe you'll write your title you see and the answer is write it right there mainly is all of it over here for free paper and down here on the bottom you see it on the list right here this is outgoing right here because i am might be or you might like student one or two are you shy nothing i think you are a little bit shy or sleepy or scared no or are you like student one or two [Music] number two what you doing why are you like students who you said i am outgoing so ryan come on you got to get on because i am outgoing right now i wrote it up there you see it okay well you're on it what you doing all right [Music] all right piecer if you're doing okay and then we're going to go back to the carpet with our picture but we got to let everybody finish here maybe i'm going to bring you my paper okay all right write that i am outgoing right because everybody else is drawing that [Music] picture okay all right boys and girls [Music] mg i [Music] g alright all right does everybody have their picture drawn not me i haven't called them big all right boys hmm all right one more minute give us your color all right wow all right put your stuff up put your crayons up and uh mask up and bring me your paper to the carpet okay it's okay if they're not completely done it's okay we got to wrap it all up put your stuff up and bring me your paper all right sit down on the carpet once you hand me your paper these are excellent i have some artists in here all right come on [Music] let me tell you what we're gonna do now i need eyes up here boys and girls listening ears on we're going to take turns telling which character you were more like okay so i'm going to go around the room and you're going to tell me which character you drew okay and why you're like that character okay all right so let's start with brayden be loud and clear so my teacher can hear you okay why because so you have experience the same thing at school with student too okay jude who did you draw why why don't you draw a student too what have you into you and student two what do y'all have in common y'all are both excited at school so you have some some of the same experiences as student two and who did you draw number two what you are happy so you and student too feel happy at school okay well i'm so proud mcdeal who did you draw student two wife you really like school so you and student too really like school don't you all right kate who did you draw baby student to what oh you and student two were both clean so you tidiness like student too ella what did you say student too because why what was your sentence i think you wrote it because you were outgoing okay josie what about you what have you and student two got in common that's what you wrote i believe saving all right last but not least tell us about you and student too how are god the time y'all are about to tidy okay so y'all need anything on this i am so proud but let me tell you something we are going to wrap this up with power student two one and two this thing somebody tell me real quick to make sure you got it [Music] they both have deaths they are both at school and so they have some of the same experiences you see them up there they're both in class they both have teachers now what what are how are they doing so once may i see them once so that's a different experience all right josie okay someone's very eager to get called on and one of them don't want to be called on all right okay okay so how are they okay yeah one's a girl and one's a boy so that's how they're different i can't believe i didn't have any people that are like student one in this group my a group there was a lot of student ones my a group's a little bit quiet and shy and they don't want to get caught on but y'all are all outgoing and eager that makes me happy all right so what what type of story did we read today what is that tricky word called no you remember what did i say that's called that has rhyming words a poem so we read about poems today and we said that he was more like who the girl student too so we all have some of these same experiences as student two right and we have some differences so what was our let's do our a i can't statement one more time to tell what we learned okay i'm gonna see if y'all remember i'm not gonna say it y'all gonna say it while i show you the motions okay [Music] one more time i can i can compare and contrast comparing contrast characters experiences [Music] y'all did excellent today so we learned a lot didn't we i'm so so proud
