FORGOTTEN 1971 BUILT Big Block Monte Carlo - Will it Run Again?

hello sir here we go again hello sir hi we're up here in Iowa again with Kevin junkyard Diggs and JD of course I think today we're going to revive this big block Monte Carlo that's been sitting for quite a while obviously there's some excavation to do on this one to dig it out is it better on the other side yeah not really no this site's better there we go you can almost get in it but yeah as stated we do have a big block under the hood of this oh man let's see we got a return pump or a return regulator dude this thing's like good good yeah I know but however it does have a little 600 Edelbrock on it you know these things have the biggest fan shroud of any car ever the small block ones the longest but headers we've got long tubes chrome valve covers t-handles on the valve covers of course and uh this is a 90s machine right now oh yeah definitely late 80s 90s but you know it's still working with stock Rally wheels yeah I just want to point out that it has a pressure rate a good pressure regulator on a Edelbrock Carburetor I don't know is it spicy I guess we'll find out don't remember if we showed it in the video or not but a year ago right about now we revived a tractor and it started kicked off our whole abandoned equipment farming series on my channel right and he has this and another truck out here and we've always been wanting to come back and get this running it's been sitting for I don't remember how long Tim will be out later he'll tell us uh but he built it it sat for a while at one point and then he got it running for his daughter's graduation and the looks of it it was that's been 10 15 years I don't I don't actually know oh whoa hey why are you the garage troll the back tag we only tag them in the rear in Iowa this vehicle is protected by Smith Wesson 2002. okay that's the last registrations that's that's 21 years operation excavation we have lunch on this later yeah oh yeah or the picnic table I mean whatever they have options toilet I think a game plan here is we're gonna move this stuff out and then we'll just roll the car out of here so we don't trash his garage you know while we try to get her running but I'm not expecting a whole lot of trouble here so you know exactly what that means four oh wow I think this is a crossbow let me just get my ass straight into US oh thanks I wasn't even joking that's an actual saw blade and a song hopefully these take air I'm looking for a date code I don't he's made pre-date date codes off we go that's very nice it's 20 year old Air it's Vintage Air I think that's trademarked you don't breathe it like you used to no no the air is totally different 20 years no no not 20. to the gills heck yes they're gills this is gonna be fun yes it will I did all this car I've had this car since I was 17. okay holy cow together in the 80s is this your first car yep holy cow look at that I'm gonna plot this when I was 17. they actually moved this far they're not bad you got to do what he was doing it or you'll Kink it right in the ass you're all right just plastic one two three car wash scavenger pipes oh yeah laughs man look how long the collector is a little bit better that's a good header I just saw that that is awesome oh that is cool oh it's a 402. yeah okay this is 396. they came out like that so this is a 70. it is 71 is it 402 what we got for oil oh we got plenty looks fine you know what I don't even think I saw any puddles underneath oh I don't it better not leak like I said I just rebuilt it how often I mean come on I parked seven out of the garage you know for a day and there's a puddle under it much less 10 years they're they're all new dry eyes could be yeah I've had your hat which one it is Logan Supply registration expired in 2010. so yeah he's right 10 12 years 13 13 math I think so you are ground I am a positive yeah they're both red so you don't get confused choke's been removed for airflow which of course yeah I've never seen anybody pull the air doors off the back of these I guess there's no reason it wouldn't work yeah that one opens the secondaries that's their doors I didn't take anything off of that that's how it came weird yeah it's the starter down that starter's gonna yeah it gets hot immediately yeah it's got a loose connection it's sparked out of it yeah well we know it spins yep let's drain the fuel tank drain fuel tighten the starter probably clean the contacts on that yeah make sure our grounds are all clean don't burn the guy's car down yeah that's a lot of motor to spin so it does get hot pretty quick when you start spinning that starter yeah being a 402 I mean even stock it's like a ten and a half to one motor so yeah is that a dual point distributor it is a dual point Lord Almighty I'm gonna disconnect our fuel line down here and we'll see if the electric pump will pull it out you know what we brought plenty of Hose but man I hate how it goes like all the way back to Infinity on that oh of course hard line so it's a BBC thing it looks fine actually that ain't brown or anything that's clean I'm sure it's varnished yeah it's not rust can't believe there's liquid there already Kevin's trying to drain the gas tank out of here I'm gonna try to slide my ass under here I guess and uh try to clean up that starter connection maybe and uh let's see yep and I'll see if we can just tighten it up maybe or loosen it I saw it spark you know interesting meanwhile while Dalton is struggling underneath the car I'm making sure to lean on the fender as much as possible thanks the fact that you laughed about this like new cable melty yeah like that would be the right thing to do for sure I might have one can we cut it back need five inches four inches don't we all I always overestimate that I have to drop the starter to do it here goes the fuels it's pretty clean oh there's the yellow still not bad that isn't bad at all I wouldn't worry about running that actually I was working on that starter down there and of course it's got long tube headers and you guys know how that goes it needs a battery cable but I think this will work for now just to get it running and then maybe we deal with that after the fact I'm gonna just immediately clean up the points and then that is an Excel dual point distributor that's old school stuff there and he's got the whole Gambit here he's got Excel braided wires Excel super coil and an Excel dual POI distributor with a brown cap pretty cool stuff really you don't see that very often anymore for a reason it does look really clean in there though it looks great like the points don't even look corroded the cleaning just a hair pumping the gas out yep yep all right I guess I'll take a peek inside this master cylinder well it's full of something I guess is grocer and we gave it credit for it I wonder why I mean he would think it would pull from the bottom first right Barrel the body was the Prime well I am actually gonna get under there and drop the starter which is of course my favorite thing to do on something with headers there's a nice little hole to get to right here I may not have to drop the stir it's a turning the whole stud up I think nope no it's very very melty all right so here's the deal we got header transmission lines the header seems to move a little I cannot get that outboard bolt so I'm gonna Hammer this onto the bolt head and Hope that I can get this out without stripping it as we break this off or strip it then we're done ah got it it's what I would love to do is go get a mini Vortex starter to put back on here that's my usual go-to because this thing's probably totally cooked from being half an inch away from these long tubes okay now how the hell I've got something to make your life easy do you come on out here I just found these in a tree and I had a fight to get them out because there's like a one inch tree growing through them well cool they might hold the car it's actually even horrible try it at your friend's house your neighbors I think I could kick it under it I won't start kicking you were held on you're almost there [Music] you go dude yeah that'll work okay well we only need this side up anyway so [Applause] hard at all yeah this did great it's a one-time use only four there's a board to lay on it yeah oh yeah Chevy starters are the worst it's coming it's coming it's crusty oh there it went there's a thunder cranking issue Yeah you mentioned probably off camera this bad no good did you ever come out with an oem starter that's necessarily a mini starter they do in fact and the good thing about Chevys is they all have the same fly flywheel count teeth count so if you uh get a Vortex starter for a 95 and up Chevy pickup small block V6 they're all the same thing put it on here and it's like double the torque output and about a third the size so get one of those they should have it off the shelf just about anywhere let's uh let's pull this battery cable out so we know how long it won to get for one got you and then two we will need new bolts for the vortex starter okay they're shorter I'm just gonna follow your lead on this I'm glad I had you do this video not me mostly so I don't have to do that right now all right we made a parts run got a new starter this is a Vortex starter for a 90s Chevy truck same tooth cap as 454 well any GM small block big block kind of a easy way to get you a mini starter way more torque gear reduction and fit with headers much better be picked up new bolts for it it does take a shorter bolt and starter bolts are critical items see how this has a knurl on it this is fat right you don't fit well that's on purpose when you put it in that knurl holds the top of that starter from walking around and if you don't use a starter bolt they will bend you will notice that eventually it's on yay charger's on starters off wired up let's put a fuel filter in line here okay even plumbed it the right direction look at me go wow you put the end on the end thank you yeah okay you don't want to fill the tank with engine no that's terrible don't do that cut that off trim this down to size because we overestimated a little I tend to do that let's throw a uh sketch-o-matic here on it yes yes yeah and then uh crank and I don't know see if it pops off sounds good prank and wank Easy Does It careful now full time little nibbles oh there we go look at that nice very nice since it's tiny I'm gonna flip this upside down flip whatever the little plate oh squeez-o-matic instead of SketchUp I see what you mean yeah so it pinches yeah pincho pincho McGee Pancho I think that's Spanish is it Monte Carlo as well yes oh it makes sense so we start speaking Spanish Monte Carlo is a uh like Casino town in Spain I think interesting choice to name a car it's High Roller man this is a personal luxury yacht here I mean car you got short deck lid seven miles of hood and there's definitely no compensating going on with a vehicle like this all the cabin power is actually coming from that which is unusual to me but maybe not everything's unusual to me it's a Chevy yeah it'll probably run that is beautiful not yet I gotta get the zip ties oh you're going all out well yeah I mean I didn't know that because I mean this was not your car you want to do everything right like we're going to put glycol in here since they probably won't ever be bad because they work on this again yeah we don't want it to freeze do we crank I think it cranked big grinding or big success hopefully big success hopefully no grindy grind all right here we go this sounds incredible awesome I do think we should shorten that negative up I think you're right running a shorter lead here I mean I'm assuming it's obvious but maybe it's not if you uh got the same gauge wire and you've got like 10 feet of it though it won't hold as much current voltage loss in lanes that no bueno hot burn fall down go boom I had to get a reuse one old zip tie Kevin reusing recycling I'm saving the world what are you doing I have it okay they're under here with me enjoying themselves I hope so they better be subscribing too yeah they should 55 what it might be too much science to this for little old me all right take off your pants never mind goodbye no belt trick put your pants back on for now double wrench this drain plug got it pretty pretty chunky stuff in there he said this engine's got 500 miles on it uh if that's breaking oil that's not good you don't want to run on that for too long because all the uh bearing material and stuff well it'll just be floating around in there that's no good install the Google stall the goo guaranteed to have zinc in it probably double funnel method double the porridge oh it's just dump it out of there so uh that's why I say I got I can't go any slower than that yeah we'll have to trickle that one I think I think it's the baffle instead well if you pull the rubber out it's a little better hmm okay no one takes any of that out of context please oil has been serviced I'd say we definitely you know put it out on the ground yeah it's a little clunky so uh let's put her flat air the tires back up and fire it up try breaks at the same time yeah good old brake test down a hill towards the building great now it's not our car not our building I was gonna say that's why we should use more caution all right let off oh yeah you got brakes you beautiful all right well let's check spark yep no spark eastberg let me see if we got power on the pole oh yeah we do it's hot oil's hot another coil wire is hot oh it's interesting it's hooked up backwards oh it is the positive is the negative and the negative is hot which is the positive ah what's coming out of the distributor is going to the positive yes it's backwards so I don't think this is going to fix our spark issue but it's other issues in my all right so you're gonna hook that up to the discharge side right we'll see if the points are working I'm going to start with the positive side actually and see if we have power pretty sure we do since you know it was hot uh no they might not be grounded uh dim oh that should be only nine volts I guess I'm interested to see if our if when you crank that override works okay it's a spaghetti mess using our big brains though we are we were able to determine that the wires are made of wire and they're supposed to be electricity in them you got it and there isn't and there's well it's importantly no there's a lot there is but it's and it's Smoky and you see how fried this resistive wire is for the points uh that's not good somebody let smoke out of it and don't ever let the magic smoke out basically you got to bypass that comes off the starter when you crank it it's got 12 volts and then when you're running it runs through a resistive wire this um to bring it down to like nine nine point six volts and uh that's smoked but it smoked for a reason and we've got a short somewhere probably we're gonna keep playing with this yeah we got something here all right we fixed a few things let's see if fire comes out yeah same issue ready for spark Sparks oh yeah got it yeah we got sparks Sweet let's take a harness thing we made the mess that we created it's better it works you got five gallons of gas in it you got the brake clean and uh recipe for Success we got spark I'm gonna put my glasses on so I don't get leaves to the face ready let me check for Excel report yeah you got fuel foreign [Music] you warm th perfect you got to be able to fire that fuel instantly it's a Hot for Teacher camp that is a hobby wow that's good yeah that is impressive doing a burnout in it it was just oh yeah okay good we check uh ETF yes fired up yeah that's a big cubic inches you know PVC what do you think the future looks like this year Well it runs but will a drive to well uh there so we can wash it you know the uh the car does have instructions left on it right here so I mean we have no choice we have to oblige rust on them yeah [Music] that is a lot better yeah wow that cleaned up very very nice I mean I wouldn't be embarrassed to try that around at all it looks great I was getting two is to do so various never came to mind uh oh we should put that hood trim back on but uh a couple things to wrap up I suppose but I think there's one big thing to wrap up yeah I think we put the original owner back in it and let him go uh lay some rubber out on the highway yeah
