Oh man... I've seen grocery store managers cry after I leave. Purely due to how hard I've screwed them.
Try meat at 80% off that was a reasonable price to begin with. Not to mention bulk buying at 50% off on good quality items like toilet paper, soap, tissues etc where I won't need to buy any for another two years etc.
I shop beforehand online to work out the weekly specials and run them through a price history checker. I then keep an eye out for near expiry discounts in the sections where I need to purchase and I know if buying them makes it more cost efficient or not. I also keep an eye out for discounts on items I don't need but aren't complete junk.
Many various tricks you can do to turn the tables.
