on this friday night this good friday night it's good to see you in the house of the lord and especially good to see you out to support your very own for we all seven us of us belong to you for some of us this is our second service we were there at first baptist church of highland park midday to hear co-pastor susie owens she had the she had the seventh last word and it's amazing that she has something to give tonight because pastor davis said he was to this respect he said he was saving the best for the last and she turned it out [Music] so i'm not even asking you to pray for her to say pray her strength i'm asking you pray her strength what a marvelous presentation and representation from this church among those six other baptists and methodist preachers she represented calvary realm so we have between seven and ten minutes who's ever in charge gave us seven to ten minutes and certainly i am going to stay within my time frame so much was coming to me when i prepared this message but i'm honored to speak from the first of the seven last words that jesus spoke on the cross saint luke chapter 23 and verse 34. then jesus said or then said jesus father forgive them for they know not what they do jesus began his ministry on calvary with a prayer for others he prayed for his enemies and his false accusers those who were crucifying him he did not ask his father to get them he didn't say fix them he didn't say kill them he prayed forgive them this message deals with one of the often overlooked prayers of jesus most christians are familiar with the lord's prayer in saint luke 11 and we're familiar with the prayer of unification that jesus prayed in saint john 17. but few of us recognize the importance of the prayer that jesus prayed as his first words as he was dying on the cross its significance goes beyond easter celebration resurrection sunday or good friday but it is a ready word for us today father forgive them they don't know what they're doing you see prior to the coming of jesus into the world the jews had been waiting in anticipation for the arrival of the true messiah the jews were in bondage they had been brought down by the roman yoke and they were only the next step from being slaves to the romans being in suppression as they were they automatically wanted somebody to help free them from this yoke they were bearing they had heard from the writings of the prophets that the true messiah was on his way they were familiar with all the prophecies they knew every passage they knew where isaiah had said who is this who cometh from edom with god comics on treading the wine press alone they were familiar with daniel's prophecy that one would come as a stone hewn out of the mountain destroying the idol gods of babylon they were aware of jacob's prophecy that the scripture would not depart from judah nor the law giver from between his feet until shallow come they knew verbatim the prophecies of malachi the son of righteousness will rise with healing in his wings they were familiar with ezekiel's acclamation of the coming messiah that he would be like a wheel in the middle of a wheel so here they were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the coming messiah they were looking for somebody who would take up a sword and fight with them to victory they were looking for somebody who was trained in the art of soldiering and someone with military expertise they were looking for someone skilled as a fighter they were looking for someone who would be an advocate of war and here came somebody who said my kingdom is not of this world they were looking for somebody who would fight with them in physical combat but here came somebody who said put up your swords if you fight with the sword you'll die with the sword jesus came you see with the new philosophy jesus came with the new ideology jesus came with a two-fold commandment of equal weight jesus came saying thou shalt love the lord thy god with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself jesus came to forgive even before his first last words jesus taught his disciples to forgive and in so doing they would be forgiven jesus taught forgiveness 70 times 7 jesus taught forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us jesus talked forgiveness and jesus walked forgiveness even before his first last words hear him say whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek turn him to the other also hear him say if any man take thy coat give him thy cloak as well hear him say whosoever shall compel you to go mild go two miles even before his first last words hear jesus say love your enemies bless those who curse you pray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you do good to them that hate you even before his first last words hear his doctrine if you want to win lose if you want to go up get down if you want to live die before his first last words he was always concerned about others he was always concerned about them he was always concerned about they his focus was on them and they i have not come to call the righteous he said for there are none but them i've called them to repentance i have come that they might have life and that more abundantly sanctify them through thy truth for thy word is truth and so if it should not surprise us that his first last words are not directed on himself or his agony or his pain his first last words were not centered on the thief or on his mother or on his brother or on the disciples neither about being forsaken by god but his first last words was father forgive them father forgive them don't blame them don't feel resentment for them pardon them excuse them for they really don't know what they're doing those who cheer and mark those who scorn those who backslid and now backstab those who are ungrateful and unappreciative those who are telling me to come down and save myself if i am really who i say i am those who spit on me and curse me and pierce me and nailed me and hung me and stretched me wide father oh forgive them for they don't know what they do not only do they not know what they do but they don't know who i am as a matter of fact they don't even know who you are father for if they knew you they would surely know me so father forgive them they don't know what they're doing he could have called ten thousand angels but he chose rather to say go ahead drive the nails in my hand laugh at me when you stand go ahead try to hide the sun but you'll see that i'm the one go ahead say i'm dead and gone but you'll find out that you were wrong go ahead and bury me but very soon you will see go ahead mark my name but my love for you will stay the same i will rise again father forgive them for they really don't know what they're doing [Music] praise the lord everybody praise the lord everybody praise the lord everybody come on let's celebrate our pastor and [Music] let's appreciate our other colleagues who will be in ministry on this evening [Music] i have the second word luke chapter 23 verses 42 and 43. i will read first from the king james version and then i will read from the message bible again that is the gospel as recorded by saint luke chapter number 23 verses 42 and 43 king james writes and he said unto jesus lord remember me when thy commas into thy kingdom and jesus said unto him verily i say unto thee today thou shalt be with me in paradise the message bible says it this way then he said jesus remember me when you enter your kingdom jesus replied and said don't worry i will today you will join me in paradise as jesus hung on the cross he has and was marked by the public by the political and religious leaders as well as by the soldiers who were crucifying him one of the criminals being crucified along with him asked his own measure of concern although he was being scorned he says to jesus come down if you be who you say you are save me and yourself but the other crucified criminal sense that jesus was being treated unjustly after speaking up for jesus he cried and said this jesus remember me when you come into your kingdom jesus responded to this criminal i assure you i assure you today you will be with me in paradise i must admit that paradise according to what we know and what we have read was a place of peace it was like a garden a place of arrest he placed this criminal in a place of rest and peace when a person works an eight-hour day and receives a fair day's pay for his time that is a wage when a person completes with or competes with an opponent and receives a trophy for winning that's a prize when a person receives appropriate recognition for the long service of his high achievements for good performance that's an award but when a person is not capable of earning a wage or has not won a prize or has not deserved an award or cannot receive a gift for a salary it it it takes us into another realm of thinking it is a good picture though of god's unmerited favor this is when and this is what we mean when we say and what we talk about god's amazing grace as i pondered over this word i wondered if it was the place that i should talk about paradise or is it the conversation that jesus had with the criminal for my last few moments i thought i would deal with the conversation the sovereign grace of god an important lesson we can learn from this second word on salvation is how god cares and concern is concerned about us how his sovereign grace can reach the old folk said the lowest valley and then it can transcend to the highest mountain these two criminals were equally near to christ as they were dying both of them see they saw and heard what was happening these six hours that he hung on the cross but one had a different viewpoint than the other all three of them were dying there was no question about that but what kind of conversation would you have with the lord and no you are dying would you take the position of the thief who said come down from here i mean you claim to be the christ save yourself and me with you or would you take the other conversation that was had with the other thief neither one of them lived in repentance both of them were getting what they deserved they were both wicked and they did not believe in jesus they did not believe in his call his laws or his mercy but what jesus did was what he's done for every one of us in here tonight it is only his solvent grace that has brought us here tonight if it had not been for the grace of god none of us would be in here tonight so it does not really matter which one of the views you take when you understand that it was god who saved you and placed you in an experience of his amazing grace it is important to remember when the lord saved this man this criminal through a conversation and converted him it occurred at a time when it seemed as if jesus had lost his power to save not only does it seem to be a time when he's lost his power to save himself but others as well it seemed as if the enemies of jesus were triumphantly winning their case against him you do know it was a mock trial and a messed up jury that caused him to be on the cross in the first place but is that not like the adversary that when we come to god he regurgitates our past all that we did wrong as if we should not be candidates for the sovereign grace of god but here in the text this dying thief had enough left in him to say listen sir i hang here justly but i do believe that you have been falsely accused some way he had no doubt that jesus was the messiah so he confesses his faith in christ is that not how we all become salvation gluttons that we confess our faith through what we believe jesus is what he has done and who he is how can we possibly explain that a dying robber took a suffering bleeding crucified man that he called his god there can be only one explanation which is the solvent grace of our lord and savior jesus christ these words of jesus on the cross offer salvation by grace which even makes those of us who consider ourselves not to be common criminals eligible to be saved oh you may talk about what you did and how it was not as bad as what somebody else did but the bible informs us that all unrighteousness is sin so if judgment would have taken place on the cross not only would the thieves have not received that thief would not have seized salvation but nobody around the cross would have received it either peter would not have received it because he denied and lied james and john's would not have received it because they were the ones who were etching for a place of high authority so jesus knew that this criminal not only represented himself but he represented everybody who was around the cross and so in his agony in his pain he placed this grace upon this man we can all agree that it is god's grace that has brought us safely thus far no wonder the old hymn of the church stands high and firm today amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch i can't get no help like me i i i once was lost but now i'm found i was blind but now i see living he loved me dying he saved me buried he carried my sins far away rising on sunday he gon justify free me forever one day he's coming back glorious day this thief that i'm closing this thief on the cross reminds us that salvation is totally by the grace of god it is free because he died it is unmerited because he died it is unearned because he died it is totally dependent upon god's mercy as to why he loves someone like us so this thief on the cross says to all of us that we can come to jesus just like we are maybe that's what the hymn writer meant when he said at the cross at the cross where i first saw the light and the burdens of my heart rolled away it was there by grace i received my sight and now i am happy all the day [Music] so can't your neighbor say he died for me [Music] can we give god praise for our leaders bishop owens and co pastor owens let's thank god for them [Music] john the 19th chapter verses 26 and 27 and it reads on this wise when jesus therefore saw his mother and the disciples standing by whom he loved he saith unto his mother woman behold thy son then saith he to the disciple behold thy mother and from that hour the disciple took her unto his own home the word of affection for subject tonight i want to use power over pain son and mother are together again we see them at the beginning of jesus's public ministry in cana where he performed his first miracle by turning water into wine but now we see them together at the end of his public ministry at the cross the cross the crucifixion it was a humiliating and excruciating form of punishment it was a slow and painful death he was mocked tortured and beaten many of us too have been mocked tortured and beaten of course not to the degree that jesus experienced but painful nonetheless some of us have experienced the pain of being ridiculed some of us have experienced emotionally and psychologically being tortured verbally beaten with the words of others some of us have experienced the pain of financial loss physical illness the pain of losing a loved one whatever your pain is it can be excruciating and in some cases humiliating but again we see jesus rising above the occasion look at your neighbor and say rise above it and he provides for us an example to follow when we are in pain he exhibits power over the pain watch this by putting the needs of another above his own i call this the power of care that is why this text is considered the word of affection for you see affection means to show love to show devotion to show care and concern for others although jesus is hanging on the cross he's experiencing excruciating pain he thought enough of his mother to show her care and concern he looked past his pain to help another and my brothers and my sisters we have to do the same jesus models for us that pain does not exempt us from caring and helping others you got to watch out my brothers and my sisters because if you allow it your pain will cause you to become selfish and isolated look at somebody and tell them do not allow your pain to become your prison break free by showing care and concern for others just like jesus philippians the second chapter verse 4 amplified version puts it this way let each of you esteem and look upon and look upon and be concerned for not merely his own interests but also for the interest of others power over pain for your consideration i want to highlight three components of the power of care and they're right here in our text number one jesus had the power to see look at somebody and tell them he saw something in verse 26 of john the 19th chapter the bible states when jesus therefore saw his mother and the disciples standing by the word the definition of the word saul implies to know or to be aware of to know are to be aware of when jesus saw his mother he knew and he was aware that she had an issue that she had a concern watch this jesus did not allow his own pain and suffering to blind him to the suffering and the problems of others and we should not either god has given us the power god has given us the ability god has given us the capability to look beyond our own pain and see the pain and plight of others don't ignore it embrace it because there is a reason why god allowed you look at somebody and say to see it not only did jesus have the power to see but he had the power to say look at somebody and tell them he said something it is in the text in verses 26 and 27 he said he saith unto his mother woman behold thy son then saith he to the disciple behold thy mother he allowed you to see something watch this because he wants you to say something for some of us he is calling us to say something on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves to speak for the homeless to to speak for the motherless to speak for the fatherless to speak for the poor to speak for the disenfranchised and the like or maybe he's calling you to change watch this what you've been saying about your family what you've been saying about your friends what you've been saying about your situation even what you've been saying about yourself my brothers and sisters it's time to say something different it's time to say something new it's time to say something uplifting it's time to say something positive look at your neighbor and tell them say something jesus did not allow his pain to silence him and we shouldn't either he spoke change he spoke a shift listen to the shift in our text he said woman this is your son now talking about john and he looks at john and he said son this is your mother now look at the shift he announced a new narrative for mary he announced a new narrative for john you have the same power to speak a new narrative over the lives of those god has connected to you good god almighty you have the power to speak over those that you influence you need to open your mouth and say something you need to break the silence listen if you break the silence you can break the enemy you didn't hear me i said if you can break the silence you can break the enemy you can break his hold you can break his influence you can break depression you can break illness you can break addiction you can break lust you can break lack somebody shall break the silence everybody declare i have the power to say in addition to the power to see and the power to say jesus had the power to solve yes look at somebody and said he saw something what did jesus saw if you will look at verse 26 in verse 26 he saw that his mother had a situation and the situation was his mother needed someone to take care of her but at the end of verse 27 watch this we see the solution to what he saw it's right there in verse 27 and from that hour that disciple talking about john took her unto his own home in other words john took mary as his own mother jesus used his power jesus used his influence with john to make sure that his mother was cared for watch this jesus did not allow the power of his pain to override the power to solve the situation for his mother he did not allow what he was going through to take over so much that he could not use his power to solve the issue for his mother we too must not allow our pain to stop us from using our god-given power our god-given ability our god-given influence to make life better for someone else use your gifts use your talents use your resources your expertise to solve the plight and the dilemmas of another because you know what look at somebody and say you know what because what you make happen for somebody else god will make happen for you help me out job job job lost almost everything he he lost almost everything his wealth his cattle his sheep his children his body was stricken with boils his wife even cursed told him curse god and die his so-called friends are falsely accused him it appears to me that job was in a painful situation ah but around verse chapter number two verse number 10 of job everything changed for job listen to what it says and the lord turned the captivity of job watch this when he prayed for his friends also the lord gave job twice as much as he had before it happened when job prayed the word prayed watch this means to intervene it means to break it means to cut and my brothers and my sisters when you look beyond your pain when you look beyond your situations and you intervene for somebody else or when you break the back of the enemy for somebody else god will do it for you when you intervene for somebody else god will intervene for you that's a good place to give him a praise right there in the midst of his pain and agony jesus exercised power over pain he exercised the power of care the power to see the power to say the power to solve and my friends and brothers that same power resides in you god bless you oh that was wonderful come on can we give it up for all of them bishop owens and co-pastor susie and bishop brown and all the others amen that was great amen i have mark chapter number 15 verse number 34 if you could turn in the word to mark chapter number 15 verse number 34 and i'm reading from the new king james version and it reads at the ninth hour jesus cried out with a loud voice saying eloah iloi lama sabachthani which translated my god my god why have you forsaken me this is jesus's word of anguish anguish agony anguish distress heartbreak and heartache anguish severe mental and physical pain does anybody in here know anything about anguish oh i know something about anguish as i was preparing for this message god reminded me of one specific time in my life it was shortly after my knee replacement carry he reminded me and i was sent to pt physical therapy but i called it tc the torture chamber yeah yeah i had two milestones that i had to meet and they both dealt with my range of motion you see i was on target with the bending of my knee but i was not so good with the straightening of my knee and then one day chris my therapist he shows up and he had been amazed at my progress he was amazed at my fortitude and enduring pain and so he decided one day when i wasn't paying attention he decided that he'd push down my knee forcefully and it was about the ninth hour that i cried out to i said chris i'm human have you ever met someone or encountered a situation or being in a relationship where people seem to think that you can handle anything you know folks who erroneously place you above the human experience anybody ever experienced that i mean they couldn't fathom that you would cry i mean they could not believe it that their words would hurt and their actions matter no they would never ever ever believe that you would have moments of self-doubt now don't get me wrong i'm not saying that you're a softy or that you're a wimp because you have a track record somebody say i got a track record see you've taken a licking and you kept right on ticking you understand that there's no pain no power you understand that if there's no cross there is no crown you've understood that if you were slapped on one cheek you went ahead and turned the other cheek and that one got slapped too but if that's you if any of the things that i said tonight if you've ever experienced a similar situation or if any of the words that i just spoke agree with you then why don't you shout out my subject shout out i'm human oh i'm in the right place tonight you see i strongly believe that what we go through in life has very little to do with us but rather through our human experiences god wants to use us to use those experiences to help us to touch and to teach and to transform the lives of others that's what i believe and that's what we see in our text we see jesus god incarnate god in the flesh being touched by the feelings of humanity right here in the scripture jesus in his humanity there he is hanging on the cross and enduring what our minds cannot even begin to comprehend you understand that the crowd at this time had not stopped cheering nicole the demons had not stopped taunting the pain had not yet diminished there was no word from heaven there was no dove to reassure jesus there was no angel that stopped by to strengthen him there were no disciples there to encourage him as a matter of fact there were no redeemed sinners who bowed down to thank him but in the midst of it in the midst of the blood and the sweat and the tears jesus cries out in anguish now you gotta you gotta pay attention to this because this is just not any kind of crying some of you mothers know something about you know a cry you can tell you can discern a difference between the different cries this is not just any cry but encased within his cry are crucial lessons for the christ follower uh-huh there are some tips he wants to leave with us from his experience and if we heed the lessons we'll be better able to deal with anguish are you ready for the lessons can you shout one more time i'm human see he needed to show up in his humanity so he could teach us these lessons from his own experiences the first lesson is all right there in the text the first lesson that he teaches us is that when we are in a situation and of anguish we have to position ourselves in prayer say that i got to position myself in prayer notice he cries out my god my god see anyone can pray to god but when he cried out my god jesus was strategically positioning himself in prayer oh yeah he was letting jesus he was letting god know i belong to you and this is very important because whatever you're going through because you belong to him he is obligated to work all things together yeah he's obligated to work all things together for my good and when you're in him and he is in you even your humanity can rest in psalm 34 knowing that he is attentive until the cries of his people can i get a witness oh yes don't stop praying the lord is nigh don't stop praying he'll hear your cry god has promised and he is true don't stop praying he will answer you don't stop praying when bowed with grief no don't stop praying you'll get relief troubles never escape god's sight don't stop praying he'll make it all right somebody shout prayer prayer communicating with god oh you got to have a little talk with jesus you got to tell them all about your trouble yes oh he'll hear your faith just cry and then he'll oh yes he'll answer but oh and when you feel the little prayer will turning then you'll know there's got to be some fire oh if you find some time to have a little talk with jesus he'll make it all right somebody say i gotta make sure i'm praying oh that's the first lesson that he's teaching us from his human experience there's another lesson right here in the text somebody say you got to keep the right perspective you've got to keep the right perspective jesus is admonishing us to stay focused say wake up your neighbor and say stay focused notice he says my god my god i love this then he says why have you is that in your text he says why have you not for some it may be unthinkable that jesus would ask his father why but i saw a bigger picture right here and it really blessed my heart it's right here it is here that by asking god one thing that jesus reveals is jesus acknowledges who's in charge oh yes devil you need to know who's up hell yeah he's in charge he says my god why have you somebody shall keep the right perspective god is in charge many other plans in a man's heart but it is the plan of the lord that prevails somebody say keep the right perspective in our soul doing listen sometimes we have to make sure that we don't play the plane game y'all know about the blame game you're giving too much credit to the devil and giving too much credit to people and giving too much credit to your haters and your instigators and the perpetrator somebody say keep the right perspective oh yeah it was the father yeah devil you need to know it was the father that delivered jesus to pilate uh-huh and then pilate to the jews and then jews to judas you need to understand that in this particular text right here i'ma say it again it was the father who delivered jesus up to judas to the jews to pilate and finally to the cross somebody say it was his father you got to tell yourself when you find yourself in an anguishing situation that my steps have been ordered by the lord don't get it twisted he might be using you but he had to give you approval to do anything and anything i'm going through and anything that you're going through you need to know god aloud and somebody show god allowed it oh say it loud to the devil because he think he in charge say god allowed it you ain't got no power up in here devil god step back so not only must you position yourself and my not only must you keep the proper perspective you must maintain your posture say maintain your posture it's right there he says my god my god why have you forsaken me i said why would jesus say those words you know why because that's how he felt and it serves as a warning to us and it is a lesson to be learned jesus touched by our humanness he felt forsaken because he had to bear the weight of sin he experienced the pain and turmoil of what it's like to be a sinful human being separated from god somebody say that's a lesson to be learned uh-huh as a human through his experience his words are a reminder to us to maintain our posture in other words he said maintain your stance in god as a matter of fact you got to make sure that you hold on to god's unchanging hand you got to make up in your mind that you're not going back you're not going to touch you're not going to taste you're not going to handle the unclean thing you're going to maintain your posture because when you and i don't change our posture and we stay in a state of readiness do you know what the bible lets us know that god says he says i will never leave you nor will i forsake you say stay in position stay in position and even though you may feel that your prayers have gone unanswered and maybe you feel like you are forsaken don't let your feelings fool you look at your neighbor and say don't let your feelings fool you because god is not a man that he would ever lie and if he said i never leave you nor forsake you that's exactly what he means so look at your neighbor again and say don't let your feelings fool you you've got to maintain your posture you've got to tell yourself that god has not forsaken me he is attentive into my cry and when i call upon him in prayer and if i keep the right perspective and i maintain my posture then i can endure times of anguish somebody shout i'm human see when you're human like jesus showed us he gave us the tips he said when you position yourself in prayer and when you keep the right perspective and maintain the proper posture then you and me just like jesus will be able to handle the process god bless you [Music] [Applause] praise the lord let's give it up for minister bob brown and her word let's also give it up for bishop owens and co-pastor owens and everyone else on the panel on this evening tonight my word is coming from john chapter 19 and verse 28. this is the king james version after this jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished that the scripture might be fulfilled he said i thirst my word of suffering on tonight my subject is he had to go through it the book of john is one of the books of the gospels that tells and describes the life of jesus i must admit that of the four gospels that john is probably my favorite as to me john goes a little deeper than the other gospels and paints a picture as to who jesus is matthew saw him as the kingly messiah mark saw him as the wonder worker luke saw him as a friend of sinners but john chose jesus as the only begotten son of god who became flesh for john jesus's humanity was a two-fold mission one as the lamb of god to secure the redemption of mankind and two through the life and ministry he revealed god the father as we reach verse 28 in chapter 19 jesus utters his fifth saying from the cross i thirst here jesus who died on the cross for our sins shows his humanity as he was not only divine but he was also perfectly human like us he felt hunger thirst and exhaustion by crying out he was thirsty he fulfilled the scripture found in psalms 69 and 21 which reads they also gave me gall for my food and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink we could interpret these words simply as part of the humanity of jesus he is suffering a physical death experiencing the pains that go along with it and he is simply thirsty who would have imagined that the one who came as a source of living water for all men would one day suffer from thirst the same one who said in matthew 5 and 6 blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled the same one who said in john 6 and 35 i am the bread of life he who comes to me shall never hunger and he who believes in me shall never thirst the same one who told the woman at the well that whatever whoever drinks the water that he gives will never thirst again because jesus satisfies the thirst see you thought that late night phone call could do it but it didn't you thought that rum and coke could do it but it didn't because jesus satisfies the thirst uh you thought that six foot man could do it but he didn't you thought that fine 36 22 36 could do it but she didn't because jesus satisfies the thirsty soul in studying this verse i could not get away from the a-clause of the verse where it says after this jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished jesus had to go through everything he went through so that he can complete the task that was set before him no matter how painful it was no matter how difficult it was jesus had to go through it and just like jesus we had to go through it after the pain after the hurt after the sickness after being lied on after being strung out on drugs after losing everything everyone that laughed at you now but i promise that you will get the last laugh because he who last laughed last best you had to go through all of that to get the victory because we know that his death is not him losing but is him winning because he wins i win high five your neighbor and say all i do is win [Applause] three reasons why we had to go through it first he had to perform some might say perform perform is to fulfill the life and death of christ was a constant fulfillment of prophecy god will not let you die until you fulfill your assignment it was not until after he fulfilled the scripture of receiving the sour vinegar that he gave up the spirit whatever god has spoken over your our life will come to pass no matter how big or small it must be fulfilled he will fulfill his purpose in your life he will not take you part of the way and not all of the way he will fulfill your destiny fulfill your business fulfill your marriage fulfill your desires it will be fulfilled somebody say fulfilled secondly he had to go through it because it was his purpose somebody say purpose acts 2 and 23 it was by god set purpose and for knowledge that jesus was handed over to death at the hands of the wicked people to die on the cross for our sins so that we may have a right to the tree of life it's your purpose that compels you because without purpose passion is just merely enthusiasm with no drive lastly he had to go through it to receive all power somebody say power after his death burial and resurrection he rose with all power in his hands he says in matthew 28 and 16 that all power is given unto him in heaven and on earth he teach me how to suffer in order to have power because at the end of your suffering comes your power power to trample on serpents and scorpions power to overcome the enemy power to take back your life power to let people go power to call those things that that are not as though they were as i close jesus is hanging on the cross experiencing hell on earth engulfed in the darkness suffering with pain as he cries for something to drink but we know this is not how the story ends the crowd rejected him and mocked him as king but god exalted jesus to his rightful place as king some years ago s m lochridge said this he said god is a seven ways king he was he's the king of the jews he is the king of israel he is the king of righteousness he is the king of the ages he is the king of the heavens he is the king of glory he is the king of kings and lord of lords david said the heavens declare the glory of god and the firmament showeth his handiwork he is sovereign there is no means that can measure his limitless love there is no far-seeing telescope that can bring into visibility the coastline of his shoreless supplies there are no barriers that can hinder him from pouring out a blessing he is enduringly strong entirely sincere eternally steadfast immortally graceful imperially powerful and partially merciful he is the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the horizon of this world he is god he is god's son he's the sinner savior he is the center piece of civilization he stands in solitude of himself he is argus he is unique he is unparalleled he is unprecedented he is the loftiest idea in literature he is the highest personality in philosophy he is the supreme problem of higher criticism he is the fundamental doctrine of true theology he is the cardinal necessity of spiritual religion he is the miracle of your age of my age of their age he's superlative of everything good you choose to call him he's the only one qualified to be your all-sufficient savior supply strength for the week available for the tempted sympathizes and saves strengthens and sustains guards and he guides heals the sick cleanses the leper forgives sinners discharges debtors defends the feeble blesses the young serves the unfortunate regards the age rewards is diligent beautifies the meek his office is manifold his promise is sure his life is matchless his goodness is limitless his mercy is everlasting his love never changes his word is enough his grace is sufficient his reign is righteous his yoke is easy his burdens is light i wish i could describe him to you i wish i could tell you something else he is indescribable incomprehensible invincible irresistible you can't get him off your mind you can't wash him off your hands you can't outlive him and your show can't live without him the pharisees couldn't stand him but they found they couldn't stop him pilate found no fault in him the witnesses didn't agree herod couldn't kill him death couldn't hold him the grave can't keep him that's my king that's my lord that's the one i worship that's the one i lift up he had to go through it [Applause] he went through so we could go through and we went through and came out all right let's put our hands together for minister andrew woodhouse amen we bless god for using you amen amen and amen somebody say he had to go through it and i'm so glad he did yes i am yes i am you can take your seats i know y'all excited you're excited everybody say what the what i'm so yes y'all wasn't expecting that but i'm so glad i live with that man god is good [Applause] yes lord jesus hallelujah thank you jesus oh jesus [Music] amen certainly certainly certainly i want to give honor to god and i'm so grateful to god first for this opportunity to minister on tonight and i also want to give honor to my parents i very seldom speak of them in public or in work setting as my parents but i'm so grateful for any opportunity when i could share alongside them in ministry is so rewarding so i honor you i honor bishop and lady brown my other spiritual leaders i thank god for you i thank god for pastor will who i don't know if i'm his big sister or colleague or we co-workers i don't know but i love pastor will and god knows i love my husband jesus [Applause] okay i have the sixth word which is the word of victory victory victory victory let's go to the book of john chapter 19 and verse 30. john 19 verse 30 when jesus therefore have received the vinegar he said it is finished and he bowed his head and gave up the ghost amen in life we are all dealt a hand challenges circumstances situations scenarios mistakes misfortunes problems and predicaments we are all dealt a hand look at your neighbor and repeat my subject after me it's a done deal it's a done deal we all are bound to come into problems predicaments mistakes misfortunes situations scenarios challenges and circumstances these things are all coming into our lives at one point or another there are some things that happen in life that we simply have no control over many of us are forced to deal with and make the best or most out of whatever hand in life we have been dealt look at your name and say it's a done deal some may suggest that jesus was not dealt the best hand in life his purpose plan and power all remain clear but the suffering scorning struggles yet remained a mystery there is a paradox of a good friday and it suggests in and of itself that jesus perhaps wasn't dealt the best hand he was put to death shame humiliation and yes some even thought that he was defeated but good friday was the best worst thing that ever happened to jesus look at your neighbor and say what's the best worst thing that ever happened to you what good friday depicts for us is jesus's ability to empathize and endure yes suffering stings and yes rejection is sometimes our reality and the pain can just pile up but god has the unique ability to take whatever hand in life we've been dealt whatever situation we see whatever trials we go through and make them somebody say it's all good i'm so glad it's a good friday and i'm so glad that it's a done deal so you may ask what is the deal what exactly is finished when god said jesus said it is finished what's the deal it's a done deal first you have to discern your destiny jesus discerned his destiny he knew his purpose he knew his mission he knew his assignment he knew why the father had sent him and what he was called to do look at your name and say what's your deal know your assignments know your purpose discern your destiny so not only was jesus able to discern his destiny but jesus also eliminated the entourage somebody say eliminate the entourage don't be convinced by crowds or faced by popularity the same ones that cry hosanna cried crucify him he wasn't concerned about the haters he ignored the insults he knew who was the real deal ask your neighbor are you the real deal so what is the deal it's a done deal discern your destiny eliminate the entourage but jesus also had access to answers look at your neighbors tell your neighbor i have access to answers he was in constant communication with the father he had an intimate interaction and exchange with god he prayed he listened but he also questioned and once he questioned he received answers i heard you lady b have a little talk with jesus tell them all about our troubles he'll hear our faces cry and we'll answer by and by my mama taught me jesus on the main line call him up and tell him what you want so jesus had access to answers so not only do we discern our destiny not only do we eliminate the entourage not only do we have access to answers but we can now live without limits turn to your neighbor and say neighbor i can live without limits jesus suffered to save he went through so we can get out he endured so we could be endowed he sealed the deal look at your neighbor say he sealed the deal and i'm so glad that when he said it is finished guess what y'all he didn't say i am finished he said it is finished which means my work is done my work is now complete and the people of god shall live and not die the devil thought he won the devil though he defeated but how many know we serve the greatest power and our god will never be defeated look at your neighbor and say it's a done deal yes the devil thought he won yes he did yes he did and i'm going to my seat but do me a favor look at your neighbor because you know the devil come to church sometimes look at your neighbor and tell your neighbor when you see the devil tell them it didn't work [Applause] [Music] come on clap your hands together and give god praise look at your neighbor and tell him it's already done hallelujah to god it's a done deal i'm glad it's a done deal i want to thank god for just being here and being alive and being saved and all that the lord is doing but i really want to ask god what did i do to bishop owens because why would you put pastor will the single one in the bunch at the end so i want to thank god for my wife in advance we thank god for jesus hallelujah thank god and don't come to me at the church saying god told you nothing god bless you amen we thank god for jesus and this opportunity really really honored for all of the leadership that is here i really am excited thanking god for such tremendous leadership can you clap your hands together for all the leaders that we've heard tonight [Applause] [Music] amen i want to come from the gospel according to luke chapter number 23 and i want to just emphasize two verses verse 45 and verse 46. i'll be coming from the message translation and if you have it say i got it it says the darkness lasting three hours a total blackout the temple curtain split right down the middle and jesus called loudly father i place my life in your hands then he breathed his last breath i want to develop for a subject on tonight the topic access granted look at your neighbor and say you've been granted access a text captures jesus still on the cross at the final moments of his life jesus is tired and exhausted because let's keep it a hundred it's really been a rough day it's rough when just this past sunday the same people that praised you now persecute you rough when the person that was close to you and you led and fed sold you out and betrayed you rough when you've been beaten to the point of death and you're still carrying your own cross and you've been crowned with thorns on your head and pierced with nails and your feet and your hands this is no joke but despite of what he went through you heard it he still forgives he accepts he concerns he questions he thirsts and he declares it is finished let me set the record straight that jesus was not a victim nor was he defeated jesus demonstrated on the cross that looks can be deceiving because although his appearance and his condition looked bad on him it ultimately benefited us the scripture says he was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities and the chastisement of our peace laid upon him and with his stripes i am healed the bible declares that god made him who knew no sin to become sin for us so that we may become the righteousness of god the scripture has been fulfilled and the plan of the enemy has failed the work of jesus on the cross restored and granted us access after 42 generations no king could do this no priest could do this no judge can do this i want you to know that jesus took my place and jesus settled my case look at your neighbor said neighbor jesus took my place and jesus settled my case i come to let you know that you have access it's a fact and it's not measured based upon how you feel before you were born you were given access the bible declares while i was yet in my sins while i was yet in my ratchet ways christ died for the ungodly first peter 1 19 says we were not redeemed with corruptible things such as silva and gold but with the precious blood of christ a lamb without blemish i come to let you know tonight that you have been purchased with the price and in christ jesus your address changes and you live in a new building and in this property are new amenities and so it's my assignment on tonight to make you aware of your access and to highlight what you have access to the bible declares that jesus the first point i want to make is that you have access to his space you have access to a space after jesus declares it's finished the payment for our atonement was deposited and it was clear and at this moment both the sun and the moon refused to shine darkness prevailed and permeated the entire nation let me let you know that god does his best work in the dark it's usually in those times where you cannot trace him that god is building up the most traction in darkness the temple is currently rent and before jesus was manifested in the flesh god instructed for the people to put him in a tent and told to david to put him in a temple the temple separated into three categories was the outer courts and was the holy place and then it was the holies of holies and it should be noted that what separated the holy place and the holies of holies was a 60 feet long 30 feet wide embroidered curtain it was critical because the high priest was the only one eligible to enter into the holies of holies he was only allowed to enter in once a year carrying the sins of the entire nation to atone for their sins can you imagine waiting a year before your sins could be forgiven can you imagine having to live your life full of guilt and in the manure of your sins for 365 days but at the cross jesus became both the priest and the lamb and the curtain was torn from the bottom and we were given access to his space god began to renovate and reorganize us and allow us a closer proximity to his presence and i come to let you know that you don't have to wait and slay the slam anymore and you don't have to put no more blood over the door someone has taken the place of the lamb look at your neighbor say his name is jesus and he's the great i am i want you to know it's dark and the temple curtain has been torn and jesus is on the cross and verse 46 says jesus christ loudly and this is profound because after being subjected to such torture for six hours one would think his spirit would be weakened and not have enough strength to say anything but though limited by the nails in his hand and limited by the nails in his feet and subjected to the cross jesus shouted i'm reminded of some other folks who were locked up in darkness around midnight paul and silence they prayed and they praised they praised and they prayed they prayed and their praise to the point where an earthquake shook the prison and they loosened the chains and opened up the gate look at your neighbor and tell your neighbor there's an earthquake in my mouth i decree and declare that when you open up your mouth the authority in your mouth causes the ground to shake the authority in your mouth causes things to happen why don't you take five seconds of my time and open up your mouth and shout in this house [Music] hallelujah to god i'm shouting and as i'm shouting things are changing as i'm shouting things are moving as i'm shouting mountains are shifting as i'm shouting the grave is rocking i'm shouting because this is not my end i gotta access [Music] so not only do you have access to his space but you have access to his place bible says father into your hands i commit my spirit although jesus had declared it was finished he still had one more thing to say jesus uses his last breath to that one thing to go back to the person that was with him from the start isn't it amazing that jesus models for every believer how we should die and the bible declares there was no more jesus could have said everything was now complete crystal said that it was a done deal and i come to let you know after you've done all you can put it in his hand i wish i had somebody up in here when you got tired of yourself put it in the hand of god but the irony about this is i began to get a cold pastor anointing and i began to just look at the random stuff in the text and i would try to figure out why would god and jesus pray to god and say why can i lay my spirit at your feet why can't i lay my spirit at your face but the hands was significant because it represented a safe place it was filled with the experience the same hands that created the world in six days it was the same hand that flung the moon and put the stars in place it was the same hand that led israel out of egypt and through the red sea and the bible declares that in his presence there's fullness of joy and at his right hand there are pleasures forevermore one thing i love about the hand of god it's not only am i in his hand but that when i'm in his hand god puts his hand on me i'm so glad that no weapon that's formed against me shall not prosper i come to let you know tonight and when god gave us access to the place it was his hand i come to tell you that god can handle your worst situation the song says be not dismayed whatever be tired god will take care of you tell your neighbor i got to get in the hand of god i got to stay in the hand of god if you believe you got access clap your hands together and give god praise and so i close at night because i'm well over my time and i don't want to let bishop rebuke me in the back but i got to tell you something that not only do you have access to his space and not only do you have access to his place but you got access to his grace i heard co-pastors say amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved the wretch like me i once was ratchet huh i once was a mess i once was dirty huh i was blind but now i see her i was sinking deep in singing from the peaceful shoah very deeply stained within her seeking to rise no more look at your neighbor huh and say buff the master but jesus the master of the seahawks heard my despairing cry and from the waters he lifted me up now safe am i [Applause] [Music] he justified and freed me forever just three people huh and say i got access [Applause] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] i tell you i've been blessed by the word [Applause] tonight can we give all of our presenters a big hat when i look at and listen listen to the presenters tonight and when i look at and listen to and know some of you greater mount calvary holy church is in good hands and pastor will i i included you with this group and made you last because i knew you would do just what you did tonight [Applause] so i don't know i don't know how many emails you're going to get saying that they are your wife but just remember you put that out there okay and and pastor will can one time that i hear you just one time can you say i got a bishop owens anointing that's every every every time you preach you have a way of saying i got a co-pastor susie anointed i am anointed too you know we just have different styles but i'm anointed okay calvary i am overwhelmed with your attendance tonight can you celebrate our own one more time [Applause] be seated for just a moment and i never tell you i never say to you that the lord said something to me if i'm not sure it's the lord um is that deandre there come here um this young man you've seen him shouting and coming up you've seen him shouting and praising the lord all over the front of the church and some of you have had him to wait on you at carolina kitchen [Music] but he came to me the other day we are distantly related because his grandmother co-pastor susie and i raised his grandmother for a number of years in our home never knowing that he would be saved and a wonderful part of impact and the youth ministry but he came to me with his mother a few weeks ago and wanted to share some good news with me and he said to me he had applied to morehouse [Applause] his um his school counselor told him the dean of dunbar said to him [Applause] the dean of dunbar said to him more house will not accept you there's no point in trying but to talk to deandre in this church he has learned so much faith he has he has so much faith in god [Applause] [Music] he defied the dean applied to morehouse anyhow and got accepted [Applause] so in addition in addition to being accepted he and his mother said in my office and he said as far as the paperwork is concerned he's exhausted being a recipient of being raised primarily by his mother and his grandmother he said the the grants and the things that you get to help defray the course have been exhausted to they reached the limit and he just said bishop will you help me to get into morehouse and of course how can i say no and the lord spoke to me and i i was trying to make sure there was you over there and the lord spoke to me and said to me let this good friday service so into his college of course of course we normally take a good friday offering and and uh i've already set out just a small honorarium for our speakers but the lord spoke to me so plainly and said whatever we receive tonight i should send a check to morehouse for you you in this audience and i'm so glad it's mainly members here tonight you have assured me through the years that god's going to take care of his house but i think god would give a special blessing to his house if we bless somebody who wants to further his education wait a minute wait because of things he's heard in this church that god will do anything for you if you turn your life over to god [Applause] all right that's all give him a hand i'm giving i'm getting ready i'm getting ready to take an offering whatever the lord lays on your heart give that tonight i want to be able to make an initial deposit and help somebody who cannot help themselves is your mom here tonight you make sure you tell her what happened tonight i know you will though lift your hand and don't don't write the check to morehouse just make it to great amount make it to greater mount calvary holy church so we can add to and do what we're supposed to do i'm not asking you for any special amount i'm just asking you um to do your best my case give me my checkbook in there in the bag hallelujah when you blessing somebody else when you blessing somebody else's kid somebody else's grandkid don't worry god's looking out for you you can't beat god's given no matter how hard you try just to be accepted in morehouse it's an honor and you will know you can also gimplify is there button where they say other put it just put other and we'll base it from this night we can track it from this night is that right novia if you want to do gibblify just just put other and we will track it from this this night no view would help us do that and our streaming audience can they do the same thing over you streaming audience just put other and we're going to just get a little fun together we have a few months before he'll be going to georgia to begin his education at morehouse god is good what's so amazing not not not that the the dean at dunbar was going by any statistics or whatever but but this young man applied anyhow and already got his letter of acceptance does that sound like god to you amen amen amen you don't go wrong when you're helping somebody else you know i don't usually do this i just feel led of the lord i have sent so many young men and young women to college myself paid for their full education and i have been rewarded tremendously part of my life is helping us you
