greetings gentlemen and ladies I am the uh old well whoever I am I'm a different guy on a different channel uh in today's video depending which channel you're watching in today's video I'm going to show you how to deal with uh issue that I often come up with uh and that is importing fbx files of models that appear white they're just like this white texture this is Unreal Engine 5 but F4 but it applies to anything really let me just make a there's my YouTube thumbnail screenshot right there okay so here's how you fix that so let's start by deleting this guy he got imported with it there's a couple ways to fix it actually um so here's my coyote guy uh and in this uh guy I got also a textures folder here that wasn't where my fbx was so I'm just gonna actually put that in there now I could probably take my textures and put them right beside the coyote and that would probably work um so I'm going to try that first and that has to do with where you search for the materials search location local which is basically the the folder from which you're importing from right so I I drag them into the same folder so it should Now find the textures in this case it did not it did not find the textures um other possible option that I'm going to show you how to fix this if you can't you can't get this working so other possible ideas would be uh for example let's import this guy uh in from the uh under parent so that should basically be uh if from subdirectories from within import import out maybe import import all maybe import all is the button to press um all right and did we get him no we didn't get him again okay that's okay you know what here's here's how I typically end up doing it although I think that should work here's how I typically end up doing it I usually just grab the textures right you usually have some some texture files you drag them in you'll look for the main material that your uh your fbx came with and you'll note that it's just like a a white color parameter we don't need that but what we do want is the uh the um the main base color and anything else that it comes with in this case a a rough uh in this case a normal map so I'm just going to drag those over like this and uh the base color will go into the base color put the normal into the normal now when we save this it should all be uh I'll be good I'll be fine I'll be I'll be okay now I'm pretty sure you can do this on import although it wasn't really working for me but anyway there's there's my guy with his uh with his textures now applied hope you guys have found this video helpful I'll see you in the next one remember I'm just using Unreal Engine 4 here uh because I'm importing some stuff from sketchfab not because this only works in ue4 usually I use ue5 use UE all right see you guys later
