Fish With A Hole In It

all right people it's sunday night i'm hoping for an early bite sounds like world war iii out here too i got an early start and things started to go wrong right off the bat well that's the second time i have drove off with my boat plugged in everything still seems to be on the boat i hope the house is okay morning's starting out grand already i see it's uh 24 degrees the date is january 10th i thought i'd go to cherokee lake what i didn't know about cherokee lake and if i would have been paying attention and if i fished as often as i used to i would have realized that any time it rains in the winter the first thing they're going to do is pull the water levels right back down to winter pool bottom line the water level dropped about a foot in the four hours that i fished up there yeah winter time around here it's like a 45 mile walk down the boat ramp the hard part is going to be getting my truck take about two hours to walk up this thing probably looks like they gonna have to air them tires up to get this dock back up the hill when the water comes up here we go we floating we floating anyway i started dragging baits through a creek and all i was doing was getting hung up i've done lost one of my sinkers already this is a nasty bottom someone told me you couldn't drag this lake that sinker that i just tied on and that i just threw out within two seconds it's been broke off again i might run out of sinkers before i ever get out of this creek looks like we may be anchor fishing this place i kept getting hung up when that didn't pan out i worked my way out to the main channel edge on an outside bin and i worked all the way down that thing all right y'all i've been dragging this outside bend right along the ledge we're in 60 foot here it'll get as deep as 80. i'm kind of zigzagging the ledge and it's not really doing me no good because so far i ain't caught jack italy squat i ain't had the first peep not even the slightest peck or nibble cherokee lake is just how i heard it was the dead sea we're coming into another uh bat creek system up here and a couple hundred yards just outside that bat creek system there is a hump kind of right in the mouth of the thing i'm going to drag around that hump maybe up a little bit in that creek and then we'll keep heading down river it's all we can do throw some baits wait for him to chew didn't do me no good water level was dropping and dropping fast but i didn't know it so finally i figured well if i can't find these fish i'll let them find me so i pulled up in the next creek system downriver and i anchored down right where it met the main channel as soon as i got out there i had some dag-blasted dogs start barking at me got some dag blasted dog barking at me now that's all i need hey shut up dawg dag plastic dog i'll settle for a channel cat give me something with whiskers and let me get out of this place if a fish is what you don't want to see come on over here and fish cherokee it's 11 o'clock i've been floating around in this frozen lake for about two and a half hours not the first nibble this is like fishing fort loudoun that shad i got on the hook is about eight days old it's been kept cold but it's smelling pretty bold i'd rather have some fresher bait truth be told but i don't think it matters for me because i'm out here fishing the dead sea cherokee all right i moved about 50 yards i'm just a little deeper a little closer to where this thing dumps into the main river i don't think it's going to matter this is cherokee lake there just ain't much in here it's almost noon the temperature is all the way up to 35 degrees with a breeze it sucks out here it can't just be cold it's got to be cold and windy i get that heater going and the wind blows it out i get it going again and the wind blows it out without a doubt this is not a good day to be here either way i'm out there the wind's blowing just ridiculous i'm freezing i ain't getting a bite next thing you know it sounded like a cannon went off i thought it was some type of big time like city fireworks you know and i'm thinking it ain't the fourth of july and i looked and there was some boat about a hundred yards from me shooting into the water man it's dead blast of world war iii around here [Applause] so finally i had enough of the place and i left and when i got back to the ramp that's when i realized that the water had receded about a foot during the time i was there if i don't catch nothing fresh i've got eight day old bait i've been pulling this river now about a half mile trolling some flies and some grubs hoping for a skip jack hoping for a white bass hoping for anything fresh and i ain't caught jack doodle's squat doing that either it's january people it's cold you know don't nothing like being out here i don't like being out here the fish don't like being out here but they are and i am and i need to catch one for this dag blasted video eight day old gizzard shad it is one bigger piece one smaller piece i done cranked up my little buddy and i'm gonna chill out and sit down next to him ah time for the old daniel boone kept first i'm gonna hold it over the heater before i put it on it's 35 degrees with the breeze gonna be dropping a degrees about every hour take it take it take it take it take it take it take it take it he took it [Music] whew look at the hole in the fin of that thing what in the world done that huh either way i had to work for that fish all right people every time i set out it's my goal to get a catfish on video today i traveled about 240 miles total got skunked at the first spot came to this spot and caught one catfish with a hole in it on an eight day old gizzard shed it's too cold for me and it's obviously too cold for these fish because they ain't doing jack squat i've seen winters that was hot and this one is not hey shut up dog this is a video there was a fish in the video that makes it a fishing video this is catfish dave with another
