always wanted to restore truck Bob remember the old am commercials the old am transmission commercials guys said always want to reill transmission B let me try boss I was want to fix a transmission picking up straight on the for just make sure it doesn't rock into the into the steering box I pick it up okay I clear it [Applause] yes [Applause] o is it square or is it small way it's the other way it's pretty much where all right we got the cab off G to get the bed off next and uh yeah it's almost off it's pretty bad I think we're going to need a new floor uh I'm not sure how hard it is I know they make panels for those I just don't know how hard it is it's going to be swap it out but uh that might be a cool project putting a new bed in here I'm thinking maybe it's just this this section here that has these ridges if we can get that panel and hopefully it's not too bad and doesn't mess up all the other stuff along the way but um guys I'm not going to try to make this thing perfect honestly I like the patina I don't mind the rust I just want everything to work and function properly um I'm going to use it I'm going to throw stuff in here it's not going to be a uh what do they call it uh show queen or whatever it's not going to be a show car it's going to be let's jump in it have some fun and uh put it to work so but I still need to get access to the brake lines the fuel lines the wiring and get all this junk off of here replace the mounts uh you can see they're in pretty bad shape get the mounts replaced although these look pretty good these were uh well protected under here you can see the original zinc coating that's still on there not sure why they left these little covers on them maybe just to help protect them a little bit I'm not sure or maybe it was just a little bit of uh anti- uh vibration or anti-squeak maybe is what that's for but these actually look pretty decent they're still pliable which is pretty cool I know the rubber back in the day was better than it is now not sure why but these are a little more rough and these are even rougher so you can kind of see these are the most exposed the next and then these are pretty well protected right here I guess you can see where we cut the uh the E braake cable I'm just going to get a new one I think it's I think it's a two-piece thing or it's 20 bucks or 30 bucks to go from the pedal to here and then it splits off into two for each side so we're going to do that I just want to get this chassis cleaned and I just want to have easy access to the shocks and the mounts and the wiring and the all that good stuff all right guys before we get too far into this tear down let's take a look at today's spons Oro orito makes these floor mats they're pretty cool they make them for basically every model you could imagine and they come with the driver side passenger side and the rear depending on which model you have and they're really nice they're really solid I use these all the time in my car out here we get a lot of mud and sand and stuff so it's easy to wipe these off they're really well made swap out your old dirty nasty wet mats for some nice rubber ones them out guys click on the link below get your mats today check them out Oro there should be a link below go check them out guys these are awesome check this out 227 that's something they wrote on there at the factory pretty sure back in 1968 actually it was probably 67 when when they were building this but somebody wrote 227 right there and it's still there it's pretty wild I think I saw a couple other marks uh somewhere as well I think inside the cab there was a mark there may have been a mark right here or somewhere in here uh but I've pressure washed this whole thing really really good so I might have pressure washed it off but that's all right I'm not trying to make this thing a factory show car or anything but you can see the typical rust down at the bottom here they do make replacement panels for these so maybe we'll get uh couple replacement panels you can also see how somehow this got dented right here they must have got hit or something at one point I think what I think what might have happened was they were driving it and the bed was basically probably bouncing around and you can see where they actually welded these screws back in So this thing may have like popped loose and was banging into the cab possibly uh not quite sure what happened there all right guys the cab is off let's get the bed off let's do it all right let's get under there and see what we're working with I've already took a couple of these off uh and they're pretty bad this is a 3/4 you can see it's pretty Rusty there's 10 of these under here so I'm going to start knocking these out I'll probably show one and then knock out the other ones so I'm going to start with this I'm going to start with this uh breaker bar and see if we can break it Loose It feels like it's spinning at the top and and I believe it is cuz you can see it's just rusted through up there there's nothing holding the top of that bolt we're probably going to have to to cut this with the cut off wheel um or try to cut the top of the bolt off and drop it down all right so that's what's spinning there's nothing holding it up here might actually be easier to try to cut the top off instead of trying to cut it underneath there so let me try that real quick the cool thing about working on a truck is uh there's plenty of room pretty much everywhere and you can use this to hold your tools all right let's try it let's see what happens yeah that's pretty bad guys I can't really get to it from under there with the uh cut off wheel so I'm just trying this all has to be fixed anyway so I just want to get some access to that right there looks like there's a bushing there uh let's see if we can let's see if we can cut through that thing maybe with a metal blade wow that's crazy [Music] man woo suckers in there there's the top of the bolt right there that's some heavy man those are some solid bolts they weren't messing around I think it's going to go down now it's got like this sleeve around it let's see yeah all right so that's [Music] loose uh they definitely don't want this thing coming off of here so you got this outer sleeve and then the bolt kind of rests on top of this plus it's also resting on top top of the bed under normal circumstances but this one's all rusted out all right we're trying this little air cut off wheel and just kind of splitting the the nut hopefully we'll just be able to hit it with a chisel or something and knock that nut off of there let's try [Music] that yeah we just got like 5,000 more of those to do it' be good woo well you can imagine after a lot of cutting and grinding and smashing and banging we got uh all those Rusty bolts out of there it was a combination of using the cut off wheel and the metal blade and just a lot of brute for course but we got it and uh the biggest problem was when you go to undo the bolt underneath like you normally would with a socket the tops were spinning cuz they're all rusted out and nothing's holding them so that was the biggest issue uh this whole floor bed will need to be replaced I don't know if it makes sense to try to fix this you know this bed I'm not sure I mean I like the patina I like the way it looks I just don't know if it makes sense to cut all this out and buy metal uh I'm not sure yet maybe we'll just do some patches I think they do sell little patches too so maybe we'll just patch it in all the places where the bolts get held down cuz again I'm just using this as a work truck have fun truck and uh maybe pull a trailer with it every once in a while and put a winch on it I'm not it doesn't have to be a trailer Queen so we'll figure something out cuz you have to just take consideration all the uh other issues it has doesn't really make sense to do all that the only reason a lot of guys will say well it doesn't make sense to pull the cab off doesn't make sense to pull the the uh the bed off but it does for me because I want to make sure the brakes and the fuel lines and the wiring and the suspension and all of that is good and I want to clean it up a little bit hit it with some Oso and that's fine I'm you know for me it's a learning experience and I also know that all that stuff is done and it's secure instead of just you know rolling with it so yeah so we're going to just get this bed off and we're going to clean it really really good hit it with some ow we might wire whe some of it and then put some protective paint on it doesn't have to be perfect we'll do a perfect restoration later on maybe on an F100 or something something really cool this is a work truck this is cool too but it's going to be a work truck the engine's going to be real nice the transmission is going to be real nice it's all going to be nice mechanically it's going to be real sweet the body's going to be a little rough all right all the bolts are loose and uh yeah it was a lot of work I've got the uh hoist up here I got it plugged in I don't know exactly if I have it tied in just right to where it's going to lift up evenly I'm I'm hoping that this hillgate is heavier in the rear and it'll balance it out let's see if uh let's see what happens it's loose I went around and pulled up on all the corners it feels like it's loose so we should be good go ahead and get this tied in and we'll pull up on it let's see what happens PS guys I found this CM hoist used on Marketplace for 100 bucks these things retail for 1,500 it works real nice real nice you just want to make sure whatever you hang it to can handle the weight of whatever you're pulling up hopefully it's going to be balanced here we go it might help to close the tailgate I'm not sure we'll see here in a second that's not good I guess it's all right it's flexing a little bit but that's cuz the uh yeah this Tail in let's catch it back [Applause] here there a couple wires connected [Music] still dang it it's all right they just unplug here bed's off a couple wires holding on there it's all right we're going to we're going to be redoing this wiring so I'm just going to cut these oh shoot look out that rear is a little uh little a little heavier all right let's see if we can get this thing up a little higher and push this thing out of the way and drop it down ah we're all the way up shoot that's all right let me see if I can get this thing out of [Music] here [Music] well come on all over the place okay almost there there we go we got it we got it we got it it's all good yeah wow all [Music] right we got it who let's set it down real quick might put on a couple tires until I got to make a little dolly for [Music] it this place I don't know if place to put tires on I guess we could yeah I guess we [Music] ties that maybe [Music] just kind of get it up off there that might work that might help let's see yeah yeah that's perfect just gets it off the ground a little bit it's resting on those cross members all right there it is there it is there it is wo man so cool to have that access you know it just depends on the condition of your vehicle this one's pretty bad you want to be able to get to the E braake cables and replace them the shocks and the uh the rear axle and clean all that up leaf springs and just get everything clean and checked out and man you can just get to everything so much easier so the goal right now is just just get this thing cleaned up pressure wash it really good already pressure washed the front pretty good but there's a lot of areas that we need to get to and I'm going to pressure wash the hell out of it and then hit it with the wire wheel and then some Oso let that dry for a couple days spray it again and uh and then we'll put put some uh protective paint on there probably just BR it on we'll see but see all this junk here this all needs to be cleaned off and all the wiring basically is going to be uh gone through and all this old fuel system is going to be pulled out cuz there was a gas tank here there was an external gas tank and then there was an incab tank and I think what I want to do if we can is put a rear tank on it I don't know if we can though look at that bumper attachment I don't know if that's Factory or not that looks like they may have added that after but if you guys know comment below is that factory I would assume that bumper is Factory maybe the camper special had that extra uh support if you guys know comment below I'd like to know that'd be pretty cool uh to find out and then if that's the case maybe we can put a gas tank maybe we'll have to put another gas tank back here I'm not sure uh let me know what you think the best thing is to do I would put one back in the cab I just don't want it to smell like gas in there and I guess if everything's brand new all the seals are new it might not I'm not sure if you guys have experienced that let me know cuz I wouldn't mind just putting it back and getting a new one and putting it in the cab and getting all new seals so here there it is yeah looks like they spilled some paint in there at some point see it dripping down below but uh we had a little bit of the flex you can see it flexing a little bit but that's cuz this is all disconnected but I'm not worried about it this thing is uh it's not a show truck guys I probably said that a thousand times but I'll probably just put this thing back on just like it is put some patches there so we can get some clean bolts in there and hold this thing down like it needs to be get all this cleaned up get the uh rebuilt engine in there new rebuilt transmission from TCI and the engine's got a bunch of shle boock Parts on it's going to be real sweet it might take a few weeks or a few months before we get the engine done but that'll give us plenty of time to get this thing cleaned up real nice and get it ready for work again this is just it's all a learning experience for me guys I enjoy kind of the exploration I guess the adventure of tearing into something and figuring out how it works and uh trying to get it working again so I've had some successes and I've had some failures but uh we've got you know a little bit of work to do we probably need some new uh Springs those are probably worn out shocks bushings mounts and all that good stuff so it looks like they put some at some point uh put some air shocks on there right and I think you fill them up through these little air tubes somehow and you allow maybe we'll put some more like that on there cuz that's kind of cool cuz it allows you to stiffen it up so it doesn't sag I think is how those work um so that might be pretty cool but yeah there it is I'm going to leave it right there for now I need to build a dolly for it I think I'm going to break the pressure washer out for a minute maybe spend an hour or so just hitting it with the pressure washer and then uh that'll probably be it for this episode we're going to get a a little dolly made for this probably use that Dolly under the bed and get this up on some get it up higher so we can do the metal work around the corner here so maybe we'll start doing the metal work and getting this cleaned up and getting this fixed get the chassis all cleaned up and ready to go what's going to be cool is once the engine's ready we'll be able to sit it right here and um get the transmission and everything all hooked up right here before we drop the cab on it that'll be neat and have a real nice access for all the brake lines fuel lines shocks and all that stuff it's going to be awesome so it wasn't that hard and you imagine if your if your truck's in better shape I mean that thing you know if your bolts are all good they'll come right off but these were all rusted and spinning so it was a little harder but if yours aren't rusted at the top and they're not spinning at the top you should be able to get those nuts off the bottom pretty easy as long as you got something to lift it up with you could actually a couple guys could pick it up if you had four guys one on each corter you could pick it up all right let's break out the pressure washer [Music] [Music] it's all right we got it all cleaned up pressure washed the heck out of it got all the dirt and a lot of the grease off of it part of that bolt so yeah there was one two I think there was 2 four six 8 10 I think there was 10 bed bolts and then there's four cab mounts this is the back cab mounts in the front so those four bolts hold the cab down and some wires and stuff and then there's 10 bolts that hold the bed down and then the front you saw that video there's a bunch of stuff holding that thing on there so we'll probably take the steering off at some point and just probably replace whatever tie rods we need to check the King Pins hopefully the King Pins are good pretty sure the shocks and the Springs are worn out but uh we'll go through all that stuff and get it set up pretty good hopefully the rear end's good if not I have the swamp dragon's rear end it's the same one so we could probably just grab that if we need to Le Springs I don't know guys what do you think do we need to replace leaf springs or can we just run with these for a little while I'm hoping we can just run with these for a little while but we'll check them and see I'd rather not take the rear end off or the front just piece it as we need it shocks Springs and uh once we get everything going we'll see how those play if they play nice and we'll leave them for a little while I'm trying to put all my money into the uh the engine really sweet engine cuz we could always move that engine to another truck if we wanted to later on transmission we're going to need a new transa uh we're going to need a new drive shaft cuz the one that was in here was completely rusted out and busted and doesn't match the uh C6 transmission that I got from TCI so the uh it was a short tail and the one I got from TCI is a longtail which is the correct one for this year I don't know if they swapped that out or not not sure but we're going to get this Frame cleaned up good thing about these frames even though they get rusty and pitted they're solid as heck thick I don't think we're going to have an issue with this man they uh they last pretty much forever uh even though you got some rust pitting and stuff these things are super solid I don't see us having any issues just doing regular uh truck stuff so I'm going to let this dry out I'm probably hit it blow blow it off a little bit with the blower get some of that water out of the crevices it'll dry pretty quick here and uh we'll take a closer look at it all right guys it's drying up pretty good thought it'd be uh fun to try little wire wheel real quick and see how this stuff comes off just going to pick a little area right here and see how long it takes to get down to a decent piece of metal where we can hit it with some Oso let's try out using this uh look like DeWalt yeah it's a pretty good [Music] one yeah yeah you can see it gets down to metal clean metal pretty quick and that's what you want you can put the and then put the oso on and it'll it'll neutralize that rust so that's not too bad it probably take all day to do the whole frame maybe two [Music] this wheel I'm probably going to need to get a I'm not sure how long it'll last but between these two hopefully we can do the whole frame uh might have to buy another one but it works pretty good definitely want to put your uh safety glasses on [Music] you can see it's working pretty [Music] good [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] yeah I'll probably spend uh tomorrow or the next day just doing this all day so I'll film a little bit of it but you know you get the idea might even be able to eat through some of this grease here probably be better off scrap scraping that [Music] first there's a number it's getting down the clean metal pretty quick guys there's a number there there's a couple numbers stamped here and there there's an actual uh chassis number right here which is serial number or a VIN number you can kind of see it right there pretty cool huh that's neat isn't [Music] it there it is yeah you can see the clean metal right there looks pretty [Music] [Music] good oh yeah oh yeah we're gonna be out here for uh quite a while I'm gonna need some more [Music] batteries that's it guys that's the that's what we're going to do on this one [Music] it'd be cool to sand blast it or have it sand blasted I'm not messing I'm not messing with a sand blast anymore it's too nasty that stuff gets everywhere it ends up getting all over you and gets in your lungs and it's just it's not good so this right here even uh you know it's just dust flying around but I'll probably end up wearing a dust mask I got my uh face shield and my glasses on so you don't want these things flying up and hitting you in the [Music] eye we're going to get it we'll get it cleaned up real good and good enough for this truck and really just focus on knocking off the loose rust hit it with Oso maybe put some paint on it I might not even put any paint on it I don't know the Osa works pretty good to protect [Music] it yeah that's working pretty good so you can see these hoses here that go to the shocks and you can see these were made in USA not sure what brand they are it's hard to see it there's a little air hose and you they've got theirs tied in back here which is kind of cool and you hook your uh air thing up here it's like you're pumping up a tire and you can add or delete air to that shock the old light right there that's pretty cool yeah so we don't need those right now we'll end up getting those suckers are on there they're probably all seized up those are pretty old man uh but we'll look into getting some new ones what do you guys think air shocks in the rear I don't know about can you put them in the front be cool to be able to get that front end up a little bit once you put the engine in there it kind of sags i' like to have that stance where it looks like it's almost like a 4x4 it' be cool but uh yeah I'm just going to cut this pretty sure those are toast that out of my way and we'll look into getting some new [Music] ones we're going to end up taking all the wiring and the brake lines and all that stuff out of here uh maybe I'll do that tomorrow and we'll kind of you know go through the whole thing get it up on some stands check the uh rear axles and the differential and all that stuff get all that ready to go probably order some uh some new drums cuz I'm pretty sure those are toast all right all right we got this we got this just this little area I mean I kind of jumped around and just did a bunch of test areas but this area I kind of cleaned up pretty good I'm going to do more but I'm just going to put some osil on it and then we'll take a look at it tomorrow and see how it looks let it sit overnight it just eats that rust away but this is basically we're going to do that to the whole thing just put some right here just for fun just right on top of the rust here and we'll take a look at that too and see see what it looks like after just sitting right on top of the rust I didn't really grind any of that I'm just just just little sample and we'll just see what it looks like tomorrow after it's been sit for uh 24 hours or so but we're going to end up going back all over all of this and making it look real nice yeah that's enough for now I'm just doing a little test see how it looks yeah maybe a little bit right there just right on top of that rust all right guys we'll take a look tomorrow stay tuned all right got it tucked back in the shop here it's uh it's a big Beast Boy especially compared to that 914 big old truck it's cool though I like it get this thing cleaned up hopefully get that engine going soon and uh just start building it back guys it's going to be a fun build I think we're going to get this one back on the road so let's do it oh yeah check that out BW Darren My Buddy Darren built this long block for me I got a few things to do with it I got to put some carburetors on it and I got to clean up the tin and all that stuff and get it all put together and maybe we'll do a first start on it soon keep an eye out for that this thing main focus right now is the uh F250 we'll mess around with that a little bit we might mess around with the 914 and the Gia at some point just uh be Pati patient we'll get there guys it's all about the truck right now so stay tuned we'll see you on the next one later
