so you've just used my 1990 gathering leveling guide link in the corner of the screen now to power your way to 90 and i'm now wondering how the fish's staff do i make some serious wonga here i'm focusing on gill from fishing alternatively find a link to mining and botany at level 90 in the description as gill making is the end focus here i'm not gonna delve into ocean fishing due to the severe lack of gill making potential so we'll leave that for another day added various activities to compare how much you can make and we'll come to those results later in the video first thing on the list at level 90 job quests and key unlocks get your level 1 to 70 job quests done if you haven't already for abilities and traits including boosts your gp regeneration you can buy all the turning items up to level 63 from the market board cheap as chips and speed through the level 170 quests link to all the turning items in the description three additional key quests this time inscrutable tastes unlocks collectibles and is picked up in the foundation in ishgard no longer a collectible unlocks ethereal reduction which is found in more donor and specific for fishing the level 61 quest a new fishing experience phase found in the ruby sea you'll need this one done before you can complete the level 68 job quest gearing up i'm not going to go too in depth on gearing as the same gear applies to phishing as to mining and botany which we covered in detail in the previous video i'll link on the screen now if you want to get up to speed on gathering gear and material melts with that video being time stamped accordingly if you want to jump straight to that section the one point of note for fishing is that your secondary tool is your spearfishing gig and currently there is only one in the game that's the eye level 180 gig that you receive from the spear fishing unlock quest gatherer books and tombs same as the other gatherers trade white scripts with the script exchange vendor in razatan for regional token seas for 100 a piece 16 of these are then traded with the splendid vendor next door for gatherer tombs unlocking important level 90 fish important resources links in the description websites like ff14 teamcraft are the bread and butter of fishing search for any fish and you'll find every piece of info needed to catch it the baits bike strength plus the wears and howls of how to catch for fishers that only appear at certain times you can also add them to the timers section which will track them alerting you when they are fishable important concepts basics to get you going making gill bait versatile law which can be brought from the vendor at x3 y12 in limsy lower decks will catch most fish these days but often specific baits will catch specific fish with a better probability large fish all fish can be caught in average size or large size variations abilities like patience increase the chance of catching large versions which would have previously been classed as hq fish before hq gathered items were removed important to note such abilities do not alter chance of catching specific fish just the size of whatever fish is caught while leveling large fish give double experience and a max level large fish give improved ratings for collectibles and also factor into mooching opportunities but they have no bearing on sale prices by strength when you get a byte you'll usually see either a one exclamation mark or two one means weak bite and two means strong bites if using patience or patience two then you'll want to use precision hook set for one marks and powerful for two exclamation marks specific fish always have the same bite strength i.e if you're only after a two exclamation mark fish you can ignore one exclamation mark fish hooking certain fish and treasure maps can only be caught with hooking snagging in effect if looking for a specific fish online then check whether it's required if you are looking for a fish which doesn't require hooking which is most of them then turn it off as it may add additional fish to the possible catches which will decrease the probability of getting the fish you actually want spear fishing a fishing mini game which is accessed by finding teeming water notes which are exclusively underwater you use your gig action to catch fish as they swim by at a node different fish are identified by fish shadows of different shapes sizes and speeds which enables you to target specific fish two fishes that look the same but are different sizes or speeds are completely different fish not varying sizes of the same fish guaranteed large fish are denoted by sparkles around the fish shadows note spear fishing does not require any bait anglers art you'll get one stack every time you catch a large size fish you can have up to 10 stacked and these are used for specific other abilities intermediate concepts to move to the next fishing level they're not necessarily really needed to make big gill big fish don't confuse these with large fish big fish or legendary fish are specific fish which are generally difficult to catch you'll see three exclamation marks when one bites more often than not big fish have strong bites but check online when hunting a specific fish note abilities like patience for large fish do not improve your chances of catching big fish fishes intuition usually part of catching big fish with the concept being used in the level 68 job quest basically a certain fish might require you to have fish's intuition buff in place before you can find it the buff is achieved by catching certain other fish for example to catch the big fish warden of the seven hughes you must first trigger the buff by catching three indigo prison fish three five like goldfish and five green prison fish the buff will trigger automatically upon catching the last required fish and lasts for a set amount of time note while catching the prerequisite fish you need to stay in the zone and not fish in any other fishing hole other than the specific one for the fish you're after mooching this is where you catch a fish which can in turn be used as bait to catch another fish usually more used when going after big and legendary fish note only certain fish can be mooched much one can be used with large size fish and reach two only with average size fish advanced concepts for fine your fishing letting fish go it's a lot quicker to not reel in a fish than it is to reel in one in if trying to get a specific fish eg a weak bite one exclamation mark fish and a strong bite hooks not pressing anything and just allowing the fish to get away will be much quicker than reeling it in this is also usually preferred to cancelling the cast by using quit or moving as those will cause you to lose status effects like surface slap or identical cast pressing nothing will retain those bike time certain fish will have specific amounts of time or ranges of time in which they will bite after your cast targeting fish in addition to letting fish of the incorrect bite strength get away absolute fishing goats often use bite time to target specific fish for example if they know the fish they want takes 11 seconds to bite after casting they will cancel their cast via pressing hook again as soon as the cast has been out for 12 seconds or more general concepts collectibles gathering fish has collectibles is quite straightforward make triple sure that you have the ability to collect active and then fish large versions of fish attract higher collectibility so use abilities like patience and prize catch to increase fish size and subsequently high collectibility timed and weather restrictive fish fish that only appear at certain times or slash and certain weather conditions in the aeolian day ethereal reduction same ability as for mining and botany which you'll find under general actions after doing the relevant quest which enables you to turn collectible fish into ether sands listing them in don't worry you're not doing anything wrong it just happens fishing stats each fish has a minimum required gathering points once you've reached this you're golden any extra amount of gathering points or any amount of perception do not improve your chances of catching a specific fish perception instead will increase your chances of catching larger versions of fish fishing rotations sort of rather than a set routine fishing has a number of abilities which are situational based on what you're trying to catch and often how invested you want to get i'll go through a few scenarios with some basic guidance to get you going and making guilt but this is not exhaustive i suggest if hunting down a specific fish then research online the best way to approach that specific catch for collectibles including those for ethereal reduction make sure first of all collectibility ability is up a couple of options a use patience two to encourage larger higher collectibility versions of fish ensuring the correct hook set is used to reel in as per byte strength or b instead of patients to cast and after successfully getting a first of any size use identical cast and prize catch together which will guarantee another of the same fish which was suffice max collectibility requirements non-mooched standard fish to sell on the market board fish size has no bearing on sale value so ignore that mechanism and just cast then when you find your fish use identical casts to get another using double or triple hook to reel in multiple of the fish at once for triple hook you'll likely need to use identical cast then a cordial or phallic's favor for gp then triple hook mooched fish cast off and once you catch the required mutable fish then if it's large size then you can recast it with mooch if it's normal sized you can use mooch two noting much two is on a three minute cooldown so when not available either use makeshift bait before you cast which enables you to mooch average size fish or use patience patience two to encourage large size fish to mooch depending on how easily the specific fish can be targeted you can then use double triple hook to reel in multiple for example situationally if a pun mooching the only weak bite fish available is the one you want then you can use double triple hook when you see a single exclamation mark and let go any strong bites you see time restricted fish whether by time weather or under fish's intuition surface slap and chunk can really help when you're up against a time limit to find a specific fish catching a fish then using surface slap will prevent that same fish being hooked until you successfully reel in your next fish and chum reduces the amount of time it will take for your next fish to bite enabling you to maximize the amount of cash you get within the time limit on to the big section making gil in various ways the 12-minute test for the calculations i've used cross-server average prices my data center chaos which are generally lower than what i actually sold items for on ragnarok pure fail section don't try this at home ocean fishing don't bother for gil in 12 mins i scored a lot of fish but they were all worthless on the market board and struggled to sell content has titles and the awesome shark mount but not good for gil catching a big fish failed the 12-minute test as after trying for 12 hours to try and catch a certain big fish i still don't have it fishing in the diner lots of fish caught though so painfully slow to sell on the market board if at all rendering the method inviable on to the good options grand company turn-ins check the day's grand company turn-ins via the timer's menu and head out to catch that fish as for other players the turn-ins are a great leveling mechanism in 12 minutes i got six class 24s averaging on the kale state center at 000 each going on the market board for a total of 156 000 note ensure you pop them on the market board and the quantity is required for the hand in as people can only use them once a day two sold quickly but the rest didn't that day or on another couple of days when they were irrelevant so the turnover was very disappointing levees i'll link to the list of turnings in the levy items in the description in the level 80 to 90 leveling range i went for bluegill fish in 12 mins i scored four bluegills which sold within a few hours totaling 100 000 gil with an average price of 25k each i did try and repeat this with bluegills and different turning fish with sales limping along very slowly so maybe i initially got lucky i'd suggest only fishing small numbers of a variety of turnings rather than lots of one else you'll likely be left trying to sell large piles for days fish for food recipes currently the top crafter and gatherer food recipes use the fish favorite and calamari making it a good target in 12 mins i caught 11 averaging 4 300 each on chaos selling for a total of forty seven thousand three hundred these did sell relatively quickly suggesting you could likely repeat this at least a few times in a day ether sans slash ethereal reduction via normal fishing i caught four red bow fish in 12 minutes close to the archeon which reduced to nine moolai ether sands totaling 10 800 gil with an average data center price of 1120 not a huge amount but sold very quickly ether sands and ethereal reduction via spearfishing in the ruby sea i caught myself 17 orthodon lamp suckers in 12 mins using the ability nature's bounty to get as many large higher collectible versions as possible these reduced into a whopping 50 entire ethersunds with a current data center average of 2260 the total came to 113 000 gil most importantly these all sold within a couple of hours so despite us being in a slow market board period you can repeat these sales a few times a day taking care not to over saturate the market board fyi lamp suckers are a medium-sized looking fish moving at a slow speed conclusion levees and ground company turnings while being able to support a very small quantity of activity currently prove ineffective as a way of making any serious gill due to poor turnover of sales i suspect shortly after expansion launches when hordes of people are leveling their fishes these are pretty lucrative but right now not so much thavenery and calamori for food prove a pretty decent option if you fancy some standard fishing to pass the time in a relaxed manner but i wouldn't suggest piling too many on the market board too frequently i do expect though that they'll see a nice little increase in sales in 6.2 launch though with lots of people returning to crafting and gathering to create new battlegear food and pots so it may be worth holding a few but the easy peasy winner hands down by a country mile is spear fishing those lovely lamp suckers to reduce into end tide ether sons as these nodes constantly respawn you could easily at least quadruple the results of the 12-minute test in a single hour netting over 400 000 gil additionally if prior patch president is followed then the easter sans will still be required in new 6.2 recipes meaning their prices will jump when 6.2 releases and be relevant all the way to 6.3 food for thought all done like and subscribe to complete the duty
