Fecon Stump Ex in Action | Stump Grinder

hey everybody it's john with upstate brush control we're back over here where we finished up with the bush hogging and stuff and uh we got a tree tree guy to get these two trees down for us so with this big old monster red oak uh the reason why we had to take it out is they're gonna be putting a pool right in this area and we didn't realize that at the time otherwise we would have taken it out when we did all the clearing back over here we did all this clearing this was all looked like those woods over there and then we had this uh this uh water oak on this side that was kind of lean pretty bad right over here and um they went ahead and dropped it uh limbed it up and pulled it back over here dropped it out this way it was just uh we can do some tree work uh it's kind of out in the woods out away from everything but this guy's on this big old nice beautiful house here we didn't want to damage anything so we let the pros handle that one but we got a couple of pretty cool things going on here today we got the stump x we're gonna use on this and um we're going to be cutting this up we actually just picked up this log trailer last week this is something i've been wanting to get for quite a long time now now that we have a nice semi that we can reliable and dependable and uh nice truck there and everything so i had to get two new tires on it we kind of went over it real quick and just i threw some new straps on it or actually josh did threw some new straps on it went over the brakes and everything pulls good and had been sitting for quite a while she needs a little pressure washing job maybe some paint this winter but uh josh over here getting the saws ready willie and mike are out cutting a retention pond so yep how's it going josh hey how are you well i'm good you talking to me or like people people on youtube oh go ahead and respond but uh so what the plan is we're gonna start cutting up we're just gonna load what we can with the skids here because i doubt our mini can pick up that log load what we can on the truck and then we're gonna drag the top over in this area and grind her up so and then we uh we ended up having to bring the mini out here just didn't know how this is going to work with loading and everything um so we got our buddies many were written from them and then uh we got the stump x so we're excited about that get to use that uh only use it one other time it's been loaded up and put on the trailer twice never worked out so fingers crossed whatever that we actually get to use here today so we're gonna put the skid steer up underneath uh when we make this first cut so nothing splits i'll take some of that pressure off there and then we'll get one more log out of it probably and then uh we'll drag the top over right over in this on the other side or something [Music] there you have it that's a nice log nice red oak man that's nice nice wood um [Music] [Music] wow [Applause] ah [Music] ah [Music] i think i hit my rakers a throws down a comment all the loggers are professional tree guys out there and everything this log it is we cut it to the length of a saw log but it is not a saw log it's got way too many knots crotches all that kind of junk in it the only reason why i did that is to get it out of here i don't care if they give me a dollar for it they'll give me something for it but it's not i'm not looking to make money off of this i know there's no money in that log they might even not even take it as pulpwood sometimes they'll take stuff like that sometimes they just take it cut it up for firewood they have people that come in where we take our stuff and they'll take it as firewood um but yeah so don't get too excited there i don't know i'm aware we just don't want to grind it because that would take a long time to be able to grind up with the uh ficon it could do it but time is money [Music] all right we got the stumpfx [Music] two speed i will measure that real quick this is our stump we're going after right here big old red oak it is give me a second here in the widest part of the stump it is thirty it is 40 inches across and the widest part uh on the top there sure which obviously lower you go the deeper it's going to be um the one stump i've used it on it was probably only a 20 inch dump so i'm not too sure how this is gonna work if if you go at it different places in the stump i really don't know but let's see what the um the width here is two and a half feet so so 30 inches um about 40 so that's 10 inches wider so i might have to do two spots i i i don't know we'll figure it out we'll figure it out together so the one time we did use this uh the holes here just got a little bolt hole i didn't have the bolts in and um that attaches to the skid steer plate this here is part of the skid steer um so i did not have it in and it twisted real bad and it broke my pin uh the one time i used it so we got some bolts here hopefully these will work bear with me so the holes are off just a little bit from how i hooked it up so i'm going to get josh over here to help me uh well let me see here he's going to go that way just here i'll try i'm just trying to oh yeah yeah that's good good there put my bolt in i'm a nut that's a big old uh if i guess three quarter inch diameter grade eight bolt so that should keep her attached for sure so a lot of guys you can actually bolt um you can't actually bolt your cutter head to your um skid steer plate decon has a the holes in it so you can do that i'm sure other brands do i don't just because we are constantly taking it off and on i've heard of people doing it you know so they don't break a pen and put pressure on the pins down there but we have had little i mean we've had some issues i wouldn't say we haven't had any issues but we've had some issues with those pins you get it into a bunch of rock or dirt all right got uh got the um plate mounted together and we're gonna hook up this is a high flow um unit here check us out on the gram we're gonna put this up there as well [Music] hmm [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] um [Music] wow did you see the torque it was putting on it that's awesome well uh it's definitely it's definitely going to take some getting used to it's different i've never me i've only run that one other time and that was when pecan came out and did some videoing and stuff like that but uh yeah i think i think it turned out pretty good um it's gonna take some getting used to that's for sure we got one more stump over here we're gonna get and um not near as big as it's 24 30 inches or something like that maybe two two times or something but but yeah it's uh it's running pretty good i mean i really don't know what to expect you know i don't i don't know how fast i know we couldn't have done that with a ventrac little fiddly grinder on the ventrac that wouldn't cut it we'd be there for three weeks to grind that thing but i mean it probably took 10-15 minutes to grind it um you know i'd say 48 at the very top it was 40 inches by the time you get to the bottom it's probably 50 60 inches across but um yeah it's crazy i mean that that thing's got a lot a lot of torque for sure um so what it does this cone here once you start into the wood it draws it once you get it stabbed in and it gets up to here that cone pulls it down into the wood and then you know these these are the knives here start cutting away but uh yeah pretty cool thanks a lot fecon i appreciate it everyone there uh fecon you know just the team people in the work on the line in the uh retention pond that they're working on mike is pulling out the brush here he's tossing it to lily we're gonna line it up so i got all this cleaned up i ended up using a grapple open it up and just used it like a rake um so i'm gonna get the blower and get the rest of those leaves so yeah and then we're gonna use the stump x on that stump up there but yeah so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] well that wasn't too bad uh it turned out pretty good i think um i don't know i think uh i'm gonna run over with the mulcher here and just kind of smooth it out but i think it turned out pretty nice um it's definitely going to take some getting used to with that thing i like the idea of it and everything like that i don't not like it let's put it that way but i'm not in love with it uh it seems extremely hard on the machine um the and how much it torques i can actually feel it twisting the machine which is mind-blowing um but i mean that thing is when i was in the full full bore it was doing everything it could uh the whole time when i was just piecing around it that wasn't near as bad on it so with smaller stumps i'm sure it'll just buzz right through those but those big ones where it was the full ring of the cut the knife whatever you want to call it um yeah it was it was hard on it it was it was hard for sure um but all right we're gonna keep going here hope you
