Terrifying. 24 hours comes to an end with a one year old baby safe after his father, a double murder suspect abducted the child and triggered a manhunt in Eugene organ. It led to a high speed chase during which the suspect exchanged gunfire with law enforcement as the pursuit continued, the suspect's vehicle crashed spinning into the median and the suspect took his own life with a self initiated gunshot wound to the head. Police say the suspect Elias Huizar, a former Yakima police officer went on a crime spree that's left the community in West Richland grieving. Our district has suffered a profound loss in the passing of Amber Rodriguez. Police say on Monday afternoon, Huizar shot and killed Amber Rodriguez, his ex wife in front of staff and students at the elementary school where she worked. He managed to get away later that day during a search of his home. Officers found the second victim, the mother of Huizar's baby now identified as 17 year old Angelica Santos. There were some pending criminal charges and of course that there there was some domestic matters that were pending in court. His ex wife had filed a protection order and Santos had reported him to law enforcement too. Huizar was charged with two counts of child rape after allegedly getting Santos and her 16 year old friend drunk and raping the friend as she slept. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, but in ST is accused of going on a rampage that led to two lives lost. Amber Rodriguez's loved ones call it a devastating and tragic time. And Angelica santos' aunt says her family is hurting. All of us just really want to just wake up from this nightmare and just bring her home at the elementary school in West Richland. Today was the first day back since the shooting and the district had counselors and therapy dogs on campus to provide extra support, Joyce. And do we have an update, Natalie on where baby Roman is tonight? Well, authorities in Oregon took care of the baby overnight and this morning, police said they were in the process of bringing him back to Washington Joyce, Natalie reporting in the newsroom tonight.
