beacon on the hill here at northern caribbean university let me first see that is indeed a privilege to be here alive and to be in the house of the lord today our focus is under the theme god will work it out now borrow these words from the song rendered by naomi rain and israel horton it says before i knew my name before i drew a breath god was making ways for me no and every day in each and every step god is making ways for me when my heart is full of doubts feels like faith is running out i've come too far to turn around i know god will work it out god will work it out one thing i've known god will work it out now tell me what do you do when the struggles of life kicks in and the realities of life seems to outweigh the promises if you ask me i have varied questions answers one could choose to throw in the toe and call it a day give up on god completely sink into a relentless depression or one can choose to pour out the heart's desire and struggles to god you can choose to tell him the good the bad and yes even the ugly but the reality is we often at times choose to suffer alone instead of suffering with him when the children of israel wandered in the wilderness of 40 years it was not because god couldn't have taken them to the promised land any sooner it was because he had a word that he wanted to complete before they were ready to take the promised land can you imagine if they were allowed to enter the promised land in the state that they were in coming out of egypt that would spell trouble just like the israel of old we all have to go through similar refining process where a past hurt deeply cemented sin will have to be plucked out in order for god to use us sounds painful huh to tell you the truth it can be when the apostle james said if any man lock wisdom let him ask of god who gives it to all men liberally that wisdom does not come without experiencing trials however the beauty about it is just like peter conversion will take place if we just let god do his work in our hearts so that we may be transformed from the inside out though we may not understand it while we're going through it once we stand still and let god move he will work it out now let's pass on back to the praise team that will they will do the opening song for us and then we'll have the prayer and the scripture reading or opening him is hymn number one praise the lord [Music] yes is [Music] r is [Music] is [Music] his goodness and he can do [Music] the scripture reading this morning comes to us today from psalms chapter 46 verse 10 reading from the king james version and it reads be still and know that i am god i will be exalted among the heathen i will be exalted in the earth here ends a portion of god's word please turn with me as i pray for us to start let us pray dear god and eternal father we thank you for this moment in which we can worship you in spirit and in truth dear lord i pray that you will continue to be with us i pray that you will bless us and may each and every item this morning each and every aspect of worship be it your name's honor and glory grant us a wonderful experience in jesus name i do pray amen [Music] [Music] [Music] okay good morning everybody welcome to church and uh welcome to our lesson review this morning uh we're starting a little early but we will still have the half an hour for our review just to remind you that this quarter we have been looking at the topic rest in christ or the theme rest in christ and [Music] this past week we were looking at jonah and today is sabbath the restless prophet yes jonah the restless prophet a very interesting story indeed and um you know as i read the scriptures i am made aware that what jesus says in john 5 39 is so true that all scripture testifies of him and you look at jonah and you wonder what can you get from jonah what christological lesson or theme can you get from jonah the reluctant prophet well the thing i see is as he was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights so shall the son of man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights but if you look um some more you probably can find some other you know christological themes uh we're not so sure yet i did not give it much examination however we're looking at the prophet jonah the one who was sent to nineveh to preach and uh it is said that he was the most successful prophet in that every single person in the city repented even animals were clothed in cycles and ashes as it were and yet he was one of the most prejudiced and uh unwilling of the prophets and god sent him to nineveh because god wanted to teach him a lesson as well not only to convert the ninevites but for jonah's conversion because with the bitterness in his heart he definitely could not make it into god's kingdom so god wanted to teach him a lesson as well so we're looking at the restless prophet today let us pray as we begin our lesson review heavenly father thank you for this morning thank you for this moment of sharing we invite the holy spirit to be with us as we study in jesus name amen and uh you would have gone through the lesson during the week so we're doing a review we're not going into deep study we don't have the time for all of that so we're reviewing the high points of the lesson the memory text is jonah chapter 4 verse 11 and it says and should i not pity nineveh that great city in which are more than 120 000 persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left and much livestock imagine the mercy of god well why do you think jonah was so reluctant we're going to be looking at it later on in the lesson but we know the story in chapter one god called the prophet and he says to him go down to nineveh that great city and preach to them tell them that within 40 days the city shall be destroyed and of course consistent consistent with the character of god even if he does not set a condition there is implied a condition jonah did not give the ninevites a condition he did not say if you repent then god will relent he simply wanted wanted to see see them destroyed so he says within 40 days god will destroy the city and he didn't give them any hope but these ninevites knew of the god of israel know that the knowledge of the god of israel was not kept only among the israelites the other nations knew about the god of israel the event in egypt the crossing of the red sea and the miracles of whatever happened in the in the wilderness were not only kept among the israelites people knew everything that was going on keep in mind that although they were in the wilderness they were not totally secluded from other people people would pass by and they would see them and they would hear and observe stuff so the knowledge of yahweh what was um well known across the region and even before israel as a nation was brought out of his of of egypt god revealed himself or things of himself to the peoples around so they knew about the god of israel notice when uh the um the uh jonah was in the ship going down to tarshish and the storm came the men who the sailors who decided to throw him overboard they were reluctant to do it at first and they asked that god should forgive them for what they were going to do so they knew of the god of jonah yes and when jonah told him that he was the worshiper of yahweh they were frightened they were terrified but they had to do what they had to do sister uh hey you have a point there okay a question based on the memory verse and should i not pity nineveh is it that god chooses who he pities and what if i am asking or seeking god's pity and i am not receiving it how should i respond that's the first question question number two we realize that jonah was an unconverted man is it that in ministry god works with those who are converted or should a man become converted before he enters ministry good question all right the first one does god pity um does god choose who he pitches by nature he's pitiful to everyone so he doesn't have a selection a group that would be kind of a predestination kind of a thing right so god pities all of us we're all sinners and we're all helpless like the divine so we don't know our right hand from our left basically so we need the guidance of the holy spirit in helping us to navigate life to make the right uh choices the right decisions in life and so the lord is pitiful psalm 102 to all who trust well all who are on the face of the earth actually he's pitiful to every one of us and he works with us to to bring us to an understanding of his will and acceptance of his purpose and the other one about jonah what was it again all right should someone become converted before they enter ministry ideally yes however god can use even the unconverted in bringing him to conversion are you following if you look at nebuchadnezzar for example did god give nebuchadnezzar a dream a vision yes did he reveal to him things of the future yes did he reveal to him his power in the hebrew boys three three hebrew boy's experience yes did he reveal to him his power um in chapter one with the hebrew boys yes was god trying to reach nebuchadnezzar yes did god eventually reach him yes after he made him an animal or given the heart of an animal for seven years so god sometimes puts us through some difficult challenging circumstances to make us realize that we are not as holy as we think we are and that we are not converted and we need a deeper experience with jesus christ but let's go back to jonah he goes down to joppa to get into a ship which was going to tarshish which was in the opposite direction approximately two 000 miles away to go to nineveh would be about 500 miles or so but he got into the ship and it was going in the opposite direction tarshish is modern-day spain all right so he wanted and i suppose he calculated it if i go to tarshish and by the time i got back 40 days would have elapsed and the nunifiers would have been destroyed and uh so he got into the boat and uh paid his fare and he was on his way to tarshish he went down to the bottom of the boat notices his um his mission he's keep he keeps going down and down and down [Music] and then the lord decides to [Music] um teach him a lesson so the lord sends a mighty storm this was an unusual storm for these seafaring men they knew of the the kind of storm that would normally come up on that sea but this was a different kind of a storm and they began to you know bail out the things from the ship and uh they began to pray to their god and nothing happened no no respite there was still this massive storm and they cast lots to see who was the cause of the angry gods wrath on them and a lot fell on jonah and when they found him he was asleep he was asleep oh by the way here's another christological theme jesus asleep in the boat when the ship is being tossed by the storm how can a man be sleeping at a time like this he must have had real confidence in god huh or he must have been very tired or something but he was sleeping and they woke him up come on come on get to your god and pray don't you see what is happening and uh jonas told him who he was who are you where you from what's your what's your business i am he seemed kind of an arrogant as well i am jonah the prophet of the most high god prophet of yahweh so why is this happening and he said to them well i'm running away from god i don't know if he said it in those words but he implied he's running away from god and god sent the storm and uh he said well if you throw me overboard then the sea will become and you'll be fine throw you overboard we can't do that no no no we can't do that and i said yes you have to do it or or as they all perish and so they threw him overboard after having prayed to god to forgive them and here is another um crystal as a christological team we mentioned it earlier on he was thrown overboard and he went down into the moorings of the earth and how long was he down there for well he went down into the moorings of the earth and he said the reeds tangled him up wrapped around him his head and everything and he was going down and down and down it's interesting the prayer he prayed coming to your sister hey let's look at it um jonah chapter 2 verse 6 i went down to the moorings of the of the mountains the earth with its bars closed behind me forever yet you have brought me up or brought up my life from the pit oh lord my god i need to say something about this for everything he was down there and the reeds closed around him forever but god has brought him up here is a use of forever in an idiomatic sense and we need to understand this because we see it in revelation pretty often where it doesn't mean forever it doesn't mean eternal are you following so when you see in the third angels message that those who receive the mark of the beast are tormented for in with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the lord and the smoke of their torment ascendeth up forever and they have no rest their night it does not mean forever eternally and the smoke and the the the um in this particular case the fire and the brimstone does not mean or do not mean literally fire and brimstone it's a symbol of warfare those who suffer the mark of the beast in the last days will be plagued by massive warfare you see it also mentioned in the in the um the sixth trumpet that uh by these were a third of mankind killed by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone it's talking about the warfare how the ottoman turks use cannon weaponry to destroy the walls of constantinople the fire is lit the cannonball is the brimstone and the the the gunpowder causes it to burn with a lot of smoke all right so it's a symbol of warfare and the smoke of their torment is different from the smoke of their burning in chapter 18 you see when babylon falls the smoke of their burning goes up forever but the smoke of their torment is their cursing and blasphemies which go up just like the prayers of the saints which go up as smoke incense are you following so if we don't understand the idiomatic expressions we're going to come to the wrong conclusion as to the teaching when you go to revelation 20 the beast and satan were cast into the lake of fire and they were tormented forever and ever does that mean really forever does satan actually become ashes on the earth yes ezekiel 28 verse 18 i will bring you to ashes upon the earth the wicked do they become ashes malachi 4 13 yes you shall trample upon the wicked for they shall be ashes under your feet but yet it says their cast into the fire for and they're tormented forever it does not mean eternal it's an idiomatic expression which means for as long as the situation continues they're in torment and they're uneasy so here is jonah he is down there forever but we know that he only spent three days and three nights down there so this is another um lesson we can pull from this study here but i saw your hand uh sister have you do you still remember what you're going to ask a pastor hey okay in verse 7 of um chapter 2 of jonah we see when my soul fainted within me i remember the lord and my pear came in unto thee into thy holy temple we can see the center being mentioned here yes is it that jesus our god was in the century before he actually came to earth as a babe okay um the concept of the temple and the sanctuary and worshiping the temple and ministering the temple in heaven you see it in in in the old testament um you see it in the psalms i was envious envious of the wicked of his prosperity and so on until i entered the temple or the sanctuary i saw his end or their end okay so um uh the the ancients the uh old testament um writers and uh prophets and so on they knew of the concept of the temple in heaven so it was not after the coming of jesus christ and later on his ascension um that we we we are made aware of the sanctuary message or the sanctuary reality it uh existed before so when he said that he is praying to god in the temple is not talking about solomon's temple all right he's talking about god in his sanctuary god in his temple let all be silent before him god is in his holy temple right and isaiah was taken into vision into the into the into the temple and he saw worship in the temple there so it's not a new testament phenomenon only was there another hand or question no yes on the matter of forever yes uh one does not merely need to have the knowledge of the original language whether the greek or the hebrew in order to understand the concept yes as it relates to forever because some prophecies are more clearly understood when they are fulfilled in light of the experience with jonah it was not in the art of the the belly of the whale forever right we see that has already been fulfilled definitely definitely okay so let's run on mission accomplished um so jonah um in the belly of the fish and god gives the fish direction that he should spit him out at a certain place so the fish spat out jonah whether on the shore or close to the shore but he got to the shore and uh he was so grateful he decided that he was going to do the mission immediately they said that the city was great um the lessons you know brought out that it was three miles in length you know three miles journey but i think what they they the um the text is really saying that it was a three-day journey to get to the city from where jonah was and he began to enter the city on the first day of the journey okay so it was three days journey from where he was but by the time he finished the first day he was entering the city a city of 120 000 people would be probably about the size of my level and its environs okay so it would not be such a large city that would be bigger than kingston actually um almost like half of jamaica or more to travel three days to get there or to travel across the city for three days so the text seems to suggest um that uh [Music] or here it is um so jonah chapter 3 verse 3 so jonah arose and went to nineveh according to the word of the lord no nineveh was an exceeding great city a three-day journey and the word inextent is a supplied phrase that's not in the original it's in italics here so three days journey so it seems to suggest that from where jonah was to enter the city it would take three days journey and it says and jonah began to enter the city on the first day's walk so it should be three days walk but he begins to enter the city on the first day's walk and as he enters the city he begins to preach in 40 days nineveh shall be destroyed and what happened now some theologians suggested that uh when they the fish spat out jonah on the on the shore there were people there and they saw this man coming out of the out of the fish of the belly of the fish and they were startled and surprised and frightened because they were worshippers of dagon and dagon is the fish god or the god of the sea and to see this god spit out this man and this man comes with such um [Music] vociferous and urgent message they figured that this was a serious matter indeed that's what some theologians say all right however what the scripture says is that um jonah preached in nineveh that within 40 days the city shall be destroyed and he went outside the walls of the city and he sat down waiting to see the city destroyed the men of the city repented the king gave an order a decree that everyone should put on sackcloth and ashes and should repent for adventure god will hear our prayers and he will forgive us and did god forgive them yes he did was jonah pleased with what god did no he wasn't you'd expect that a a prophet preaching repentance and forgiveness would be happy when the people did but instead he was very angry why was jonah angry that the people repented that's inconsistent with the work and the expectation of a prophet why was he angry pastor olipe when you preach to sinners don't you get excited when somebody decides to give his or her life to jesus christ and if you were to preach to uh to the entire congregation here at ncu say this gym is full and there are about two thousand three thousand people here and you preach and everybody decides to give their heart to jesus wouldn't be an exciting thing yes everybody would be rejoicing and praising god but this prophet this restless prophet was upset that the ninevites repented a hundred and twenty thousand people the most that ever got converted in one sermon better than the day of pentecost and the man is upset he's angry and he quarrels with god you see that is why i didn't want to come because i know that you're a merciful and gracious god full of compassion and long suffering i didn't want to come look all of them have repented and he goes out of the city and he sits down and he's moping and he's the sun is beating down on him and he's faint and god allows a little plant to grow up and to cover him from the heat of the sun and he was refreshed and he was having a little rest remember the lesson is about rest restlessness of jonah and he is enjoying the rest and uh watching to see if you know the destruction would really come the next day what happened god provided a worm and the worm destroyed the plant and it dried up and jonah began to complain hello that i might die i wish i would die and god said jonah imagine this plant i made to grow up overnight and it dies it withers in a night and you are upset that the plant has withered and died and look 120 000 people in nineveh who do not know the difference between their right hand and their left and you have more compassion on a plant than on these people and god taught him a lesson why was jonah upset why did jonah want to see the ninevites killed well we know from the study and from history that the assyrian empire of which nineveh was the capital was a ruthless wicked empire those soldiers would go into countries into cities and they would annihilate the old the young the the um the healthy and the sick they had no mercy at all they invaded israel they invaded judah they invaded lakeish one of the cities of judah and they devastated the nations around and apparently jonah's family was affected by the invasion and he hated the assyrians he hated the identifies he wanted judgment to come upon them it is said that uh sennacherib 722 bc took all the israelites into captivity all right and then he came to judah sometime later so here is the prophet he hates the assyrians and god says all right um jonah i'm going to send you to nineveh the capital of assyria and i'm going to ask you to preach to them oh no not those people i ain't going try to go elsewhere god sent into nineveh anyway he preaches and he expects to see them destroyed but instead they repent and god forgave them and now god is dealing with the prophet jonah i don't know what conversation god had with him apart from what is written here but i suppose god would have said to him jonah you are my servant you need to represent me i'm a god of love i'm a god of mercy i'm a god of grace and compassion you are supposed to be representing me the before the people you preach to those people of my love and of my willingness to forgive and to to convert and to transform they repented they accepted the message shouldn't you be rejoicing for these people it means jonah something is wrong with your heart and you need a conversion just like the ninevites you need to be converted just like the levites because if you are not converted you will not make it into my kingdom and those in the vice will make it and you'll be shut out and i suppose jonah ultimately got the message it was a hard lesson to learn but he ultimately got the message and the message that we should take from this as well my friends we must be careful lest we having preached become a cast away it is not merely just delivering the message we must live the message we must be converted by the message amen god wants us to live what we preach sister it is so interesting to see that jonah just preached basically one message repent and 120 000 people repented yes today we are having crusades for four weeks and we are preaching so many different topics and it's difficult to baptize 120. what is it that jonah was doing that we are not doing today sister hey remember it was not jonah had it been for jonah only nobody would have repented nobody would have heard the message it is the power of god through the messenger the power of god could it be could it be that we do not engage god in serious prayer before we get into our evangelistic efforts could it be we are too focused on numbers rather than the souls the salvation of souls could it be that we have a different agenda that runs contrary to god's agenda could it be that we're just fulfilling a program could it be god doesn't fail when he sets out to save souls we are the hindrances we are the problems yes and the disciples if you remember james and john they didn't understand the mission of jesus christ and when they went into a city and the people didn't accept them they said lord should i should we um pray and bring down fire from heaven and destroy them like elijah did they didn't understand the mystery the mission of jesus and what did jesus say to them you don't understand the son of man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save men's lives and jonah didn't understand that but ultimately he had to learn the hard way and sometimes my friends god puts us through some really grueling situation or situations in order to teach us important lessons for our salvation so if he has to do it with us and we come out on the good side and we look back and later realize that you know god had to do what he had to do in order to save me then give him the glory give him the honor and give him the praise we're done and i'm going to turn back over the superintendent but let us pray to close father in heaven we thank you for your word and we ask you lord to help us to learn from this situation that we need to be converted by our own message and we need to be careful lest having preached we ourselves become a castaway thank you for hearing our prayer do bless us today as we continue to worship you in the spirit of holiness in jesus name amen [Music] amen god indeed worked it out for the children of nineveh [Music] before i knew my name before i drew a breath god was making ways for me now and every day in each and every breath he is making ways for me when my heart is full of doubt and feels like faith is [Music] know [Music] god will work it it out one thing i know one thing i found god will work it out pushing [Music] he is [Music] [Music] and i have no [Music] i know god will work it out god pushing and he won't let me down never ever leave he is making ways for me and when my heart is [Music] [Music] one thing i know one thing i found [Music] be still [Music] alone god will work it out [Music] [Music] amen god will work it out may your faith be bigger than your fears may your shouts bear shouts of praise speak louder than your doubts when question seems to go unanswered and your suffering seems to be unbearable when loneliness seem to ravish your souls and no one else around you seem to understand may the holy spirit the comforter be the one to console your heart when discouragement comes and you wonder if it's even worth it may your eyes shift from the one may s may your eyes shift from what is happening and look to the kings of kings hold fast to this promise found in john 16 verse 33 i have told you these things so that in me you have peace in this world you will have trouble but take heart i have overcome the world bye bye from sabbath school until next time do have yourself a wonderful rest of the sabbath happy sabbath everyone will begin our divine service with a few songs for praise and worship as we lift praises and songs to our king and our maker [Music] you are my strength [Music] [Applause] [Music] you are my strength when i am we you are the treasure that i seeking you as a precious truth lord to give jesus never worthy is your name jesus oh all is name jesus worthy is your name [Music] aren't we glad to know that the name of jesus is worthy and so we are so happy that amidst what is happening around us and inside of us we still can reach out to carry out ministry in using the technology that is available for the dedication of babies this morning very happy to link to the families of the myers and the winters as we seek to present their little ones to almighty god three wonderful babies this morning are ready to be presented and we unite our voices as we sing the melodious hymn lead them my god to deeds number 653 pastor ronnie henry will join me by means of the technology [Music] these children dear of mine these children thereof thou givest me yes who by thy love divine oh by thy lord when earth looks bright and fear [Music] let's know [Music] temptations for me they're my god my god we'll have pastor ronnie henry at this time who will bring us the passage for reflection and meditation and thereafter a small charge as we present to these little ones to god i am pleased to join in this very special service this morning and i direct your attention to psalm 127. the bible says unless the lord build a house they labor in vain that build it unless the lord guards the city the watchman stays awake in vain it is a vain thing for you to rise up early to sit up late to eat the bread of sorrows for so he gives his beloved sleep belo behold children are inherited from the lord the fruit of the womb is his reward like arrows in the hand of a warrior so are the children of one's youth happy is the man who has his scripture full of them they shall not be ashamed but you'll speak with the enemies in the game i'm happy to join my colleague pastor hey this morning with these two families as they present their loved ones to the lord and my admonition drawn from this very passage is to remind the parents that you could do nothing better than to bring these children to be presented to the lord in consecration may i say to you as a reminder that the children you have brought do not belong to you they belong to god you're only about caretakers and stewards because the time is coming when jesus himself will ask of you what where's that flock that beautiful flock that i have given to you and so i must remind you that it's a sacred responsibility you have in training these children in the ways of the lord and what a privilege it is because after all it's not about anything on this earth that you are planning for you're planning for eternity with jesus christ and the redeemed and certainly if there's anybody you want to be there with you it is these are the ones that god has blessed you with it calls for patience it calls for diligence it calls so much prayer as you grow your children especially in this time and age and so i want to remind the parents that you must be rather prayerful as you go through each day nursing these little lambs for the kingdom of god what a blessing they are and i have my own dreams for these little ones i've met at least two of them and i'm sure by god's grace your parents are going to give it your best shot doing it knowing that you're doing it for god and may i remind you nothing like your own example in the home the things you do with them the way you relate to them the way you discipline them all of these are important because ultimately you want the best for your children i'm so happy for you as parents today and i'm glad that you have taken the time to take them to the house of the lord to be committed to him and to be consecrated and so i say may you be blessed by the lord who made heaven and earth as you give of your best in growing these children your kingdom at this time as we present before almighty god caleb myers kela and kylie winter shall we bow as we pray god and our father how grateful we are to you for the gift of life and for enriching our experience with your constant presence when we become deliberate and intentional accepting you as lord and savior of our lives or the privilege of conception for you have been there even before the egg came in contact with the sperm and fertilization took place [Music] and you have brought here on planet earth healthy babies in the winters and the myers homes [Music] and today the parents in response to the invitation that you have extended have decided that they will cooperate with your will as they present little caleb [Music] and kylie to you we pray in a very special way that as parents the clear recognition will be there concerning the awesome responsibility of recognizing that they are custodians and at the end of life's journey each one must give an account for the way as parents they have instructed the little ones that you have placed within their care in the nurture in the fear and in the admonition of almighty god so we place them now before you and we know that you alone can dedicate you know their temperaments you know the plans that you have for their lives and we pray oh god that by your spirit they will be receptive even in their tender years even as parents as they align themselves with your will and your word so that the purpose in caleb kelly and kela's life will be fulfilled so we ask from heaven now your dwelling place that you will dedicate them to your service keeping them from the negative influences of society keeping them safe from evil men evil women evil angels keeping them alert even like little samwell while he was there in the temple assisting eli so that they will be ready to respond accordingly for you continue to speak to young and to older ones so we ask now that you will bless them and that you will keep them that you will cause your loving face to shine upon them and be gracious unto them that you will lift up the light of your countenance upon them and give them your peace peace in their hearts and may their homes be enriched because peace is there and peace finally with the prince of peace jesus christ our lord and our savior to descend we thank you for hearing us we thank you for blessing the winters and the myers family and we thank you for answering operas in jesus name we pray let god's people say and as we prepare to the closing the final stance of the song i just want to highlight to the families that your certificates of dedication are here available we have caleb caleb okay we have kylie and we have kela god bless you and me on that day when the question is asked from the myers and the winter's home where is that flock that beautiful flock that i have given to you you will be able to respond in the affirmative year though my faith be we see all that we have needed your hand has provided great oh lord is your faithfulness as we come in obedience to the fourth commandment to honor you on this day that you have chosen we ask o lord that we may be transformed by the power of your word and of your holy spirit as we spend time worshiping you today on different platforms whether here or online we ask oh god that as we spend this that burdens are lifted at calvary lord we're so glad to know that you're a caring god you're a kind god a compassionate god so those who are burdened down those who are filled with cares and trouble this morning i turn them over to you father i pray that you will grant them your peace i pray that you will grant them your love let them feel your presence to know that you are nigh to know that you are the only true and living god that can bring peace and give peace to a weary soul so father this morning as your dear children we come to you look into you because there is none other we have seen even as he presents oh god give us an open heart give us a clear mind let all the distractions be hidden so that we can focus on your holy word and today dear god i present the church at ncu to you present the leadership of the university the leadership of the church the officers the leaders present to you oh god the many families that are hurting and mourning even now we pray holy father that you will attend unto every cry and you will hear each prayer anoint us now with your holy oil and father as we continue throughout this service let the only person be seen is the man christ jesus thank you for hearing thank you for answering our prayers in jesus holy name we pray amen [Music] jesus loves the little children on the children of the world [Applause] children of the world jesus all the children of the world whether they are black or white all over precious [Music] now today our children's story is based from the bible with a little twist so i hope someone can tell me what this story is where the story is from so the story is about two little boys jacob and peter now it was around summertime so mother decided to buy some snacks for both jacob and for peter so my mother bought a lot of snacks to last them for a whole month so when jacob saw these snacks he was excited why can't i get all these snacks at once why do i have to get them daily mother said jacob you can't take the snacks all at once i'll give you one per day now peter had no problem with this peter had no problem with taking the stocks one at a time now jacob went to peter and said peter look when mother leaves for work tomorrow i'm going to leave this house with my snacks because mother is trying to control me so the next day mother left for work and jacob took all his snacks and head under headed on the road now while he was walking down the road he saw many of his friends and he called him come along let us go and have a merry time i have many snacks now they went and they went by the river and they played by the river and they did all the things mother would not have wanted them to do now when evelyn came mother was so worried about jacob where is my son where's my son she couldn't find him when even came jacob had no more snacks left now jacob did not know what to do but these friends that he had that at all it's not decided that all right look my parents they're cooking dinner at home i'm going to go home and eat dinner with my parents because these snacks i'm still hungry now when jacob's friends left him he had no one to turn to such a cop decided all right i'm going to do the things that mother told me never to do and that's big people for food now when jacob went to masjid and said masjo can i get some food master ran him home and said go home jacob went to the garbage bins trying to get some food but then jacob thought to himself my mother has so much food at home why am i staying here in garbage bins and begging people when i can go home and apologize to my mother so jacob started going down the road back to his mother meanwhile mother was on the balcony looking out for jacob so when jacob reached in the yard mother ran down to jacob and hugged him now peter was confused mother why are you hugging jacob mother said to peter go go and get the biggest piece of chicken in the pot and bring for jacob now peter was saying i did not eat all my snacks i did not disobey your mother why is jacob getting all the good things mother said to peter my son who was lost is now phone and he was dead is now alive now can anyone tell me where the story is from yes the prodigal son now oftentimes we as children of god we think that we can do this with god and we think that we can you know we want to be in control but i'm reminding us wise and girls that although we might stray from god god is here waiting for us to come back home although we should try not to stray now let us bow our heads and pray there are thank you for each and every boy and girl thank you for blessing them hope that whatever is said and done by them will be done to your names unknown glory but they will follow in the right part until you lead them in jesus name i pray amen happy sabbath church we are at the time when we will be returning to the lord that which is rightfully his when albert stoffa put god first albert stauffer put god first when he left his own country to become a missionary what can we learn from him today that will help us put god first in our own lives albert could have continued to enjoy the safety and comfort of his home but albert was the kind of person who put god first so he accepted the call from the general conference to travel to brazil to sell present truth literature this was 1894 and the success was uncertain as he had to survive from the sale of the books and tracks he had with him however his task was even more difficult because they were not printed in the native portuguese language thankfully other missionaries established a printing press and created a system to write translate and print new materials two years later albert had and a fellow call porter went to the evangelical church service in kuritiba the capital of the state of parana in the south of brazil mrs anna dietrich otto was a much sought after midwife in the city and was present at the worship service she was disturbed when she saw two young people attending the service whom no one knew clearly they were not from the city the following weekend mistress also noticed that the two young men were present at the church again she then listened to them and decided to buy the book they were presenting life of jesus in german the following sunday they met again and spent the whole morning studying the bible as a result mrs anna and her husband oscar emilia otto accepted the adventist faith calporters have dedicated their lives to distributing life-saving literature throughout brazil argentina uruguay and many other countries in south america and the world every morning from house to host they put god first with their lives without them the three angels messages would not be present in more than 200 countries and territories as it is today albert stauffer put god first every day as a call porter his courage inspires us jesus gave up everything to redeem us and his love compels us to put his kingdom first in our own lives as the decons now take their places and prepare to collect the tithe and offerings we are challenged to put god first let us pray their heavenly father we worship you this morning with our tithe and offerings we pray for the courage to put you first in our lives in the name of jesus amen the deacons may not proceed to collect its ties and offering please also be reminded that online giving is now there shall be seasons refreshing sand from the sand you're above showers of blessings we need [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] there shall be showers [Music] [Music] showers of blessings we need mercy jumps from us are falling [Music] [Music] amen praise the lord god is good and all the time yes it is a joy and a blessing to be alive and well and free to worship god even on this third sabbath of the month and wherever you are whether you're here in real time or you're in cyberspace you are welcome in the name of our lord and our savior jesus christ i want you wherever you are to just pause and give god thanks because he's good all the time i was reflecting this week and realized that if you can breathe without difficulty you ought to give god some praise and things you ought to stop and just breathe in and breathe out and praise the lord we take these things for granted in the midst of difficulties god is still good once again i'm grateful to god for this opportunity to speak for him during this fall weekend of evangelism and i pray that as i share god's word with you that you will be blessed and edified and choose jesus again as we reflect on the theme jesus in noah's ark before i go into the message that the lord has laid on my heart to share this morning i want to ask you to pray with me and pray for me silently in your heart and ask the lord to open your heart and that you will hear what the lord would have you hear today and pray for me that the lord will help me to say what the lord wants me to say in the way that he wants me to say it so we're going to pause wherever you are for a few minutes and talk to god on these two points and then i'm going to sing a song pray and get into the message for today let's bow heads as we talk to god for ourselves jesus turn your eyes upon jesus look in his wonderful face and the things of earth will grow strangely [Music] in the light of his glory and grace let's do that one more time turn your eyes upon jesus [Music] yes lord in this hour we turn our eyes upon your son jesus christ and we ask o lord that we may see him today in the presentation of your word lord i pray that not i but christ may be honored loved and exalted may be seen known and heard in every look and action in every thought and word and i ask lord that you will keep your promise that if you be lifted up you will draw all men to you bless us in this hour may the things of the world grow dim indeed as we look to jesus in this hour and may somebody choose jesus today we pray in jesus name amen and amen today i'll be sharing on the subject a talk about the walk key word walk exercise is a god-given natural remedy for human health whether you are vaccinated or not vaccinated exercise is beneficial to boost and to strengthen the immune system to fight off disease one of the easiest ways to exercise is to walk if you cannot run or jog you can just walk when the pandemic began and the orders to stay home and work from home were issued i realized that i needed some way to exercise simply and regularly i searched the internet and found the walk at home youtube videos created by leslie sansone i began to follow this series of low impact exercise videos that encouraged me to walk at home even though indoors dr mcintosh indoors 20 to 30 minutes a day my family and i have enjoyed it and i still use it today to keep active since 1984 leslie sansone has produced dvds videos and published books to help people lose weight stay fit and healthy by making walking a consistent healthy way of life before the flood came the bible says that noah did some walking here is what the genesis account has to say about noah sister justina so well read genesis chapter 6 verse 8 and 9. but noah found grace in the eyes of the lord this is the genealogy of noah noah was a just man perfect in his generations noah walked with god before the flood noah was known for his walk with god in order to appreciate these verses it would be nice to read through the whole uh passage genesis 6 from verse 1 coming down especially from verse 5 which i shared on last night it says then the lord saw from verse 5 then the lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually and god says in verse 7 i will destroy all human beings but verse 8 says but noah found grace in the eyes of the lord there's a contrast there a contrast between the world of noah's time found in verses 5 to 7 the world that lived wickedly before god and noah who lived righteously before god while the rest of the world lived an ungodly life noah walked with god in this message i'd like to share three key points about noah's walk with god the first point is that to walk was the hebrew way of saying a way of life so noah walked with god simply meant that for noah constant intimate communion with god was a way of life noah had a personal faith relationship with god that was a way of life noah created and spent devotional time with god in prayer but he also had a devotional life don't miss that noah had devotional time but he also had a devotional life noah stayed connected to god in all that he did he was open to god and enjoyed conversation with god in all his activities in all that noah did not noah made god the central part of every part of his life the stanzas of the hymn my lord and i and it's interesting that that's the closing hymn for today's worship seven-day adventist hymn number 456 captures the essence of noah's walk with god i have a friend so precious so very dear to me he loves me with such tender love he loves so faithfully i cannot live apart from him i love to feel him nigh and so we walk together my lord and i i tell him all my sorrows i tell him all my joys i tell him all that pleases me and i tell him what a noise he tells me what i ought to do he tells me how to try and so we work together my lord and i noah enjoyed god's company in everything he did because god was his friend james chapter 4 verse 4 and let me read that real quick present some very strong words james 4 verse 4 says adulterers and adulteresses now that's not the kind of thing you want to say to anybody but that's how james begins adulterers and adulteresses do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with god whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of god and so no wonder then that noah was an enemy of the world because he was a friend of god noah's walk with god is significant when compared with jesus's statement in matthew 24 38 and 39. i read this last night we're going to read it again matthew 24 38 and 39 for as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking marrying and giving in marriage until the day that noah entered the ark and did not know until the flood came and took them all away so also will the coming of the son of man be it states that in the days of noah people were eating and drinking marrying and giving in marriage activities that were a normal part of life routine things that were a way of life but these activities were done without god at the center when these activities are done without god at the center they become distraction that leave us unprepared for the judgment that is coming ready or not luke 21 verse 34 and 36 every time i read this text it it's scary luke 21 34 to 36 says but take heed to yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing drunkenness and don't miss this one and the cares of this life and that day come on you unexpectedly verse 35 for it will come as a snare as a trap on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth verse 36 watch therefore and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass and to stand before the son of man in case you missed it jesus gives a warning and says be careful that your eating and drinking does not become a distraction does not become your priority your schoolwork does not become your priority trying to work to make money to make the bills does not become your priority for all those who do those things without god will be distracted and the day will come upon them suddenly just as the flood came upon the world in noah's day people engaged in these activities in noah's days and they were so carried away in doing those things that the flood came upon them by surprise not because they were not warned as we saw last night but because they did not believe god's warnings and had no regard for god in all the hustle and bustle of life's activities they had no time for god does that sound like you today no time for god so while both noah and the world engaged in the same activities by the way noah had three sons who were married so noah was part of the marrying and giving in marriage while noah and his people the people of the world engaged in the same activities noah walked with god as he did those activities consequently noah was ready he was prepared for the coming judgment because he walked with god if you and i will live through the judgment that is coming ready or not then we must walk with god by making him the central part of every part of our lives and i was reflecting today and these days are days when it's very easy to get busy very easy to be overwhelmed and to forget to spend time with god but i learned something when i was still a single man you create time for what is important to you and so dear friends if you recognize that you have no time for god you're simply saying that god is not important to you it reminds me of a song my dad used to play when he was still alive by jim reeves how long has it been since you talked to the lord and told him your heart's hidden secrets how long since you stayed on your knees still the light shone through can you call him your friend how long has it been since you knew that jesus cared for you it's my prayer that as you listen to this message you will understand the gravity of the fact that if we are going to be ready for whatever is coming upon the world we need like noah to walk with god walking with god needs to become a way of life point number two is that obedience to god is the result of walking with god obedience to god is the result of walking with god two texts in genesis genesis 6 22 says thus noah did thus noah did according to all that god commanded him so he did genesis 7 verse 5 says the same thing and noah did according to all that the lord commanded him noah walked with god and in the context of the relationship god gave him instructions to follow noah don't miss this now noah demonstrated his faith in god by acting in obedience to god noah demonstrated his faith in god by acting in obedience to god noah trusted god faith noah obeyed god trust and obey for there is no other way to be happy in jesus noah confirms james chapter 2 verse 17 and 26 faith without works is dead sometimes we think of faith as if it is an abstract thing but every day we manifest faith you're sitting on a chair right now because you have faith in that chair that is going to hold your weight up you came to this church today with a vehicle because you had faith that the vehicle was going to take you safely to your destination you are watching this right now on a gadget because you have faith that the gadget is going to work and it's gonna connect you to this message you swallow appeal when a doctor gives you a prescription you show faith dr mcintosh in the doctor's prescription by swallowing that medicine and believing that it's going to bring you healing faith works and whether we are religious or not every day we demonstrate faith the bible says that noah not only preached and talked about the flood but he invested his time in building an ark and showing that he believed what god said you see it had never rained and i'm gonna talk about that tomorrow evening so make sure you don't miss it it had never rained noah was doing something that had never been done before noah looked crazy but he did it because he believed god he walked the talk noah practiced what he preached he as the americans say put his money where his mouth was noah's actions matched his words nose story shows how faith works for us today we demonstrate our faith in god by our works when we walk with god we do the good works of god and let me just pause here this is not in my notes but this is the holy spirit moment right here there are many of us who claim and believe that god is great but we don't show it in our actions david uh went out there and saw goliath speaking blasphemy to the armies of the lord did the armies of israel believe in god yes they did but they didn't show it by their works david believed god enough to step out there and face the giant and said i'm not a trained soldier i don't have a sword or a spare or shield but i come to you in the name of the living god of israel david demonstrated that he believed god and there is no other time to show our faith in god and in this pandemic as children of god for god has not given us the spirit of fear but of love and of power and of a sound mind god wants us to act on the authority of his word he doesn't want us to be foolish though because faith is not foolishness but when we stand on the authority of god's word we act in line with what god has asked us to do we demonstrate faith by our works we follow god's instructions and we obey his commands the last warning message to the world in revelation the third the three angels messages begin with the words fear god and give him glory and this echoes ecclesiastes 12 13 and 14 read this last night fear god and keep his commandments this implies that one way to fear god and give him glory is to keep his commandments when we obey god in all that we do we do all to the glory of god why am i spending time on that because there are many christians today who find it so hard to obey simple rules like where your mask can sanitize and unfortunately many christians have contributed to the spread of the pandemic by disobedience but when we walk with god we are obedient we are obedient to laws that are not against the laws of god and so i challenge you if you're a christian watching that is downplaying your part in obedience god calls you to be obedient to represent him well by being obedient to the laws of the land that are not against the laws of god many christians downplay obedience to the ten commandments but just as noah obeyed god's instruction to build the ark the ten commandments are god's instructions for a happy and a holy life for our relationship with god and with other human beings i found this in a book my mother gave me what's so amazing about grace by philip yancey wonderful book philippians is not an adventist but he's a great christian writer and he says that many times as christians this is what we do i want you to listen to this very interesting illustration he says can you imagine that a newlywed couple are about to enjoy their honeymoon and the husband the new husband says to his new wife honey i love you so much and i'm eager to spend my life with you but i need to work out a few details with you after we are married how far can i go with other women can i sleep with them can i uh kiss them you you don't mind if i have a few affairs now and then do you i know you it might hurt you but but but just think of all the many opportunities you'll have to forgive me after i do so i can imagine the new husband receiving a very hot slap across his face but the truth is that we approach god with the same attitude uh we say god how much can i sin and still get forgiveness keeping god's commandments is an important part of our love relationship with god luke 6 46 says why do you call me lord lord and do not do what i say john 14 15 says if you love me keep my commandments first john 5 3 says that god's commandments are not burdensome for this is the love of god that we keep his commandments and his commandments are not burdensome today satan has attacked the law of god by promoting the teaching that jesus nailed the ten commandments to the cross and did away with it and this leads to the lawlessness that we see in the church and in the world today today there is a preaching of a gospel in which you just receive jesus and everything is okay but let me read to you from the great christian writer ellen g whiting in the great controversy page 465 paragraph one she says it is the neglect of these truths the teachings that there is no law that has opened the door to the evils which are now becoming so widespread in the religious world the nature and the importance of the law of god has been to a great extent lost sight of and because of that there is a lack of power in the revivals of the day without the law of god men have no just conception of the purity and holiness of god or of their own guilt and uncleanness they have no true conviction of sin and they feel no need of repentance the hope of salvation is accepted without a radical change of heart or reformation of life the don't miss this now the superficial conversions mercy abound multitudes are joined to the church who have never been united to christ so many people believe in jesus and joining the church but never really converted because of these teachings but matthew 5 17 jesus says he did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it you see without the law there is no sin and without sin there is no need for a savior genesis the great controversy sorry page 466 paragraph three says the claim that christ by his death abolished his father's law is without foundation had it been possible for the law to be changed or set aside then christ need not have died to save men from the penalty of sin the death of christ proves that the law of god is immutable and i say amen to that the law of god is the basis of his character and so rather than change the law of god god gave jesus to fulfill the just requirements of the law according to romans 8 verse 3 and 4 and to die to pay the penalty of breaking the law but here's my favorite part god gave us his holy spirit to write his law in our minds hebrews chapter 10 verse 16 says god says i will put my spirit in you and i will write my laws in your minds now i'm not an i.t expert but i know something about the power of new software and that's what it says to me when i give my heart to jesus he formats the old way and he installs a new software that has god's nature in it so that i am able to obey god automatically it becomes second nature for me to do god's will because his law is in my heart in the end time book of revelation jesus reveals that while the world follows the dragon's beast powers the saints of god will be known for keeping god's commandments revelation 12 17 says the dragon was wrath with the woman and the remnant of a seed those who keep the commandments of god and have the testimony of jesus christ revelation 14 12 says here is the patience of the saints those who keep the commandments of god and have the faith of jesus rather than worshiping the beast by obeying that the decrees of the beast the saints will choose to worship god by obeying his commandments the first angels message calls the world to worship god the creator using the exact words from the fourth commandment exodus 20 verse 8 to 11 remember the sabbath day to keep it holy a commandment that has been side tracked and has been debated over the ages but a commandment that will be the final end time test of loyalty in the great battle between good and evil the last message the last warning message to the world points to the significance of worshiping the creator on the day that he chose to be worshipped on don't miss that now the message let me repeat this one more time the last warning message to the world points to the significance of worshiping the creator on the day he chose to be worshipped on when we talk with our sunday keeping brothers and sisters they say it doesn't matter what day you can choose whatever day you want to worship god on but the seventh day is the day god chose for you to worship him if god chose a day for us to honor him and you choose the day you want to worship god on then you become god and the bible calls that idolatry and blasphemy but to follow god then you must follow his instructions for the god i know in scripture is particular when god created man in the beginning an established marriage he didn't marry adam and steve he didn't marry eve and eveling he didn't marry adam and eve and evelyn he married adam and eve when god gave instructions to adam and eve he didn't say the tree in the middle of the garden he said the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because there were two trees in the center of the garden when when the children of israel were about to be released from egypt god said paint the blood of the lamb on your doorpost and when i see the blood i will pass over you the god i know is a god that is particular the god that gives specific instructions and we show our faith in that god by being obedient why should we nullify the commandment that says remember the commandment specific commandment that points back to something that has been established from time god is calling a people who will love him enough to do exactly what he says are you willing to follow jesus the lord of the sabbath mark 2 verse 27 and 28 because you see the sabbath is not just an issue of days but the issue of masters who is the master of your life if you are not yet a sabbath-keeping christian a seventh-day sabbath-keeping christian i challenge you to keep the sabbath that jesus kept when he was here to show him that you love him to do exactly what he commands you to do as noah did because he walked with god for those who walk with god are obedient to god the final point is that walking with god leads to life eternal it's interesting to note that noah is the second person in the bible noted to have walked with god the first person was enoch and here is something that we miss when we read i found this in an article by timothy o j cole and it was very interesting he says that that when we read the narrative of genesis 5 there is a pattern and here's the pattern and adam lived 930 years and he died that's genesis 5 5. and seth lived 912 years and he died five verse eight enos lived 905 years and he died but but but when we get to enoch enoch breaks the pattern enoch walked with god and god took him genesis 5 24 at a time when humankind began to receive the results of sin in death the end of enoch's life story gives hope to humanity of a different destiny enoch's story shows that humanity will not always end in death there is a different alternative a different destiny apart from death and it comes when we walk with god dear friends humanity was created to live and to live forever and the way to live forever is to walk with god apart from enoch noah abraham and isaac are also mentioned in genesis as men who walked with god or walked before god had an intimate friendship with god and though they died the writer of hebrews states that they are waiting their graves for the promise of eternal life at the second coming of jesus in noah's story he and his family received the reward of life while the world suffered destruction they experienced life and not death during the flood because noah walked with god i'm not jamaican but i'm learning and one of the greetings i learned recently from last year was walk good and i have come to learn that this means have a safe journey take care be careful as you go don't walk with god in the midst of stress and pressure from school and from family and all the overwhelming challenges walk good walk with god in the midst of death and so many things that challenge us i challenge you today walk good walk with god and if you keep walking with god one day we will arrive on the shores of the heavenly cane and on the sea of glass in the holy city the new jerusalem for that is the end destination of all those who walk good when they walk with god so are you walking good by walking with god i want to end with two texts and make my appeal and close there are two texts that simplify simplify what is required for us to be saved one is in the old testament and one is in the new micah 6 8 he has shown the old man what is good and what does the lord require of you but to do justly to love mercy and to walk humbly with your god what good john 17 3 says and this is eternal life that they may know thee the only true god and jesus christ whom he has sent in order to know god we must walk with him and so dear friends today if you're watching i challenge you to walk with god like noah did to make walking with god a way of life to make walking with god evidenced in your obedience to god to walk good by walking with god there's a link that is in the chat and i pray that wherever you are if you have not walked with god or started walking with god that you would
