yes very nice 300 hi I'm Spencer Smith I'm 31 years old I've been training my garage Tim for a couple years now and my day trade nothing active at all I'm a network architect so I teach them and I just follow the hybrid performance nothing that keeps me accountable is this your first road trip yes okay how long have you had this one uh this gym pad for two years or just over two years now I believe yeah like you said it started over there and kind of expanded yeah it's built up over time yeah what is there any equipment that you got your eye on besides the belt squat that you're like that's what I want to get or is that the main one you looking at that's the main one like I look at equipment all the time you know it's it's fun well I try to you know consider the things that we're just making most I was like what am I actually not years does they don't use it's not going to spend money on so how did all this equipment is there anything that you like to wish you didn't buy because you don't use it or is too expensive or whatever or maybe something you had in the past and you already sold and anything like that um I'm pretty happy with everything right now um the only thing is like I got those jammer arms at a killer deal yeah I'm at full price probably would be worth it I don't use them that much I mean if the first thing I would start I was starting fresh yeah it's just to get a base it's like a squat stay in Iraq a bar in place like with just that which is what I started with you can do like 95% of everything right so that's definitely what I'd start with so when I first kind of started putting this together like the first half the winter I didn't have it so that's rough you know I tried on unit or when it's especially in Minnesota like in January February its Sub Zero grabbing grabbing a metal bar when it's below freezing it yeah it's hard well the biggest thing to me since I originally started out and just like a traditional Jam it I even know what I was doing was I just started in the CrossFit gym great and they teach you how to do everything and you learn how to workout so that's that would be my suggestion like if you don't know what you're doing like just start a CrossFit gym they're like a year and they'll teach everything you know you know you can go from there how helpful it hasn't been to have somebody train with you like do you think those people should be just trained by themselves or you think most people should be about different it's swordsmen with friends I know there's so much more fun you get so much more motivation most of my PRS have been Donnie win friends around you know you just have all that energy in that motivation and you know just that that pumped up vibe that you know it's so much better just share it okay so skier I noticed oh you got a row or two you actually have the whole trifecta I do of concept to what happy to get first is the rower first okay there's the rower then the bike and then the concept - I actually picked up walls at the Arnold o platform versus on the wall um so a lot of what I have is just so I can move the space to how I want it okay so like the way the rack set up so what's a little bit different is I do elbow that beam in middle yeah so it's kind of set up more like to spot stands we can bench in the middle but then it keeps it stable because I can move this around okay real easy you don't keep it together okay so Doug just kind of any metcon whoever's in the space which concept to device torture device you use the most the bike gets the most use okay I'd say that's putting a lot of the clawing duration stuff on it yeah and it's just so easy to hop on I mean I don't I bring that in and out of the house even just pop it in from the TV yeah the ski argh I love though that I'd only had for a few months now about it it's my favorite piece of conditioning equipment I use it the most yeah I like it because you can like you can just jump on it again you don't just wrap it or anything and you just go to town I mean really it's idle on it for conditioning just because you can hammer the legs yeah and then you can hop on that and get a good workout you just have a like the bike of the roads retain follows over here adidas flat bench from Amazon I'm guessing uh yeah I think so okay yeah that's kind of how things built I mean I first started with the bench of the dumbbells which I've had for like whatever eight years or something now and it's all it's oh no place to yet do do for the price it's like a great height like off the ground sometimes these cheaper ones they'll put them like 20 inches off the ground it's like a standard 17 it's got these thick like 1 by threes I think face so I think maybe it's like 50 bucks probably around there 60 bucks so good bench for the price if you're doing crossfit you're probably not bench in a ton I do probably at least once a week okay so I follow more than hybrid performance method programming okay yeah hybrid yeah so a lot of squats but you know bench like once a week kind of get to everything okay so is it like are you doing like primarily across the type training like we train for competition or general fitness I do competitions here and there maybe with some friends I've done individual before but otherwise I just like to move so more so powerlifting and Olympic lifting but then I always supplement with whatever conditioning pieces I started with CrossFit so cool so is your motivation ah just always improve I'd love to see the progression just get stronger a little bit better every day and just move I just love moving and st. active are you married with kids married no kids yep so I mean that's kind of also how the setup is so me and the wife can work out at the same time we both have our own space own bars sweet beautiful okay pair left over here row VHD plates why'd you go with the HD plates um so that's what it started with when I started to build a garage gym was originally originally it was actually just a squats and an SML - so I started with that just a basic whatever like 250 pounds of plates and the rogue you know - dotto bar just start with that you know real reliable not too noisy and based on where my strength was at the time I mean great package some nice rope hanger here you do crossover symmetry quite often yeah yeah I use that great shoulder warm-up anytime I'm doing you know any Olympic lifts or just shoulder heavy workout they start with that okay cool so moving over here storage rack I'm guessing this is Titan that is okay I've got the same one yep so I kind of made my own setup what worked with what I had um you know your some of the adjustable shelves the dumbbells and that one right there is a the middle shelf yeah is the same thing just mounted sideways just generally you shelf yep they're heavy they are it's really like the way it's thick-gauge steel like now I first order them I was like ah these are gonna be kind of flimsy but man they took forever to live yeah yeah no concerns about that definitely definitely and you've got rep fitness wall balls ab mats some cool though so colors doing workouts with poker chips yeah definitely to count yeah dude kettlebells sweet and then let's talk about your bar so your first one wrote 2.0 bar yep that's the one you got with like a package yep yeah that's the beater bar use pretty much every time I work out you know solid for everything okay okay this one is a that stainless yeah what is it bureaus bar actually boneyard one that I just picked up just a few weeks ago okay that is my favorite bar I love that so nice okay so do you do a lot of weightlifting with it yeah yeah for that forever so smooth love stainless steel that's definitely the way to go for bar it just sticks to the hands per garage gym you know the fluctuations in temperature it's not gonna rust yeah it was a volunteer party said yep so what was the problem I just saw like a little bit of maybe some 90 some funny coloring marks I mean you can't even barely see it yeah right light there and like maybe a Nick on the sleeve cool like it was pristine so how it always is yeah so then this is a Bella bar yeah okay yeah that's the Bella bar wife uses that who loves that use it for everything yeah yeah great general purpose for oh you guys tighten delete plates these are a really popular plate have you been happy with them any issues with them um no no they've been they've been great you know I got them during a sale they were like a buck 75 pound or something shipped okay so I stocked up I have these I have a whole bunch more over there so I'd like 16 okay for me all the friends and you know really a strengths ground I've needed some more plates since great have enough the thinner profile plates to put on the bar so you have a lot of people uh yeah you have a few friends that are into CrossFit and and like lift so what makes image of your time train by yourself would you say versus training somebody else um I'd say maybe 50% of the time training by myself um I mean a lot of time actually straining with my life and then you know on weekends is normally when friends will come over like Saturday Sunday roller I see this blue tape here yeah so you keep in the same spot every time yeah kind of easy indication of when to stop so it's not hitting the wall that I've had for a few years that has over or it's getting close to million miles or knowing meters at this point a lot of time on that point that all those meters on there or I guess that'd be among anybody I would say and I'm a majority user but yeah I mean other people have used it nice man I also notice you got the hot dog yeah so he's in Minnesota Wiccans called cold dude yeah it gets cold right now it's like beautiful but I bet during the winter it's cold I played hockey up here so that's kind of a necessity was that in here when you got the house or did you install that no so when I got the house it looked like a regular garage right like messy whatever so yeah I spent the time to clean it up paint the walls paint insulate the ceiling the walls and doors are already insulated okay and then yeah get get the heater installed which has been a lifesaver you know in the winter don't keep it too hot but get it up to like 60 62 degrees it's great to work out in sweet so is your garage door insulated - yep yes garage doors are insulated so it keeps all packed in yeah concept you biker which kind of talked about and then your flooring looks like stole mats right yep all slow mounts I think I got them all from like Mills Fleet Farm 30 bucks apiece fifty yeah this is what we recommend it pretty much everybody maybe the best price and solid yeah rep fitness plate tree here this one the first thing we went had the same exact plate tree for the price this is probably the best value so they've got the nice chrome sleeves which they don't chip like the powder coat and then what bar is this so that's another boneyard bar that I got a couple years ago that's the Olympic Training or oh yeah it's held up well you haven't had any issues with it yeah no I really liked it until I got the Pierce bar okay yeah kind of replaced okay this is the kind of the big piece in the gym all these when I came in these are the first monster like lever arm flip seen in person so one how do you like to rank loved the rack so really like I said it started out with a SML - really what I did was just bought another SML - that made the most sense and just bought the crossmember up top to Mirjam and it works out great because you know can squat both sides simultaneously bench in the middle it's solid piece love it did you get the lever arms during the sale Hey the $200 yeah that's great deal you use it very often or is it kind of like it's an accessory piece yeah you know I found like doing any kind of like suitcase deadlifts or rows some shoulder accessory stuff bench press you know I found if I wrap up a band on the back post and put it on the on the peg here yeah a really great resistance okay that's kind of a favorite exercise there in just days yeah I like it oh yeah so you got to the bottom yeah those are great any pieces you're looking to get any any new gym equipment that's on the horizon the only other thing I've been eyeing is when I'm belt squats that's kind of a hot thing now right so either maybe like the the Rhino bell squat or them looking at the squat max okay because that's again something you can kind of shift around to yours connected connected right to the rack or played away both of them are great if your i've got both I like the squat necks preferred for squatting like if you're just gonna use it for squatting but if you're doing like multiple movements with it like rows or deadlifts or anything like that the Rhino is premier obviously the biggest thing here space yes you know what can I get the most use of space and kind of shift things around towards well this is like you got a one stall right here taken up so he's still it's a three-car garage but you're parking two cars yeah and then you've got one which is like I mean you've got pretty much anything you'd ever need it's like a mini CrossFit gym which it I mean it's smart because then you can park two cars do you have any plans to take over this stall um you know I've talked about it with the wife she said I absolutely can okay have to park outside yeah okay yeah so I mean in the summer that's fine in the winter it's a little rough yeah no definitely definitely it's kind of like the garage Jim creep just the more you get into us a war you buy you just built the space it originally started in just that corner like 4-star Max and it's slowly grown until it took the whole stall yeah so do you train just here or you train at another gym as well Oh primarily here I have one friend who coaches at a gym that's like 20 minutes from here so I'll occasionally drop into that cross-examine [Music]
