Noticed some off screen shenanigans. Maybe was just some cut footage of a take back on the sequencing of Ashlens turn at 8:30.
Ashlen casts a thran dynamo, casts simic signet, then plays a wastes leaving her with 1 colorless wastes, one eldrazi scion which sacs for colorless, and the signet that taps for GU if you pay 1.
On Jakes turn that wastes magically transforms into an island allowing her to sac the scion to tap the signet for GU, and tap the island for U to cast [[Void slime]].
I REALLY do not understand why Ashlen has a waste in her deck. Like it has to be for colorless costing Eldrazi, but it seems super not worth it. In general she really didn't do much in that game.
Also do not understand why Jimmy would EVER discard a counter spell in his position. When you're ahead they are literally the best things to make sure you don't lose.
I know in the past they've said that they've reworked their decklists so as to not have them chalk full of removal as they make for less exciting games, but mass removal is good for decks for a reason. This game was a pretty clear example of that.
Jimmy made it something like three times around the table with a pair of consecrated sphinxes. Then he made almost two-hundred 1/1's. And everyone just sort of sat and watched him. This is not the normal commander play experience.
It was a very fun game to watch! But I agree with Blaze: the pact of negation was probably discarded for more βviewer satisfaction β in stead of optimal play.
