Exploring an Abandoned Cold War Military Base - We got inside!

[Music] boarded up and abandoned this military base sits silently a relic and reminder of a troubled past when the united states and russia were on the brink of nuclear war join us as we explore what remains of this derelict command base [Music] us army's nike hercules defense systems the inner ring defense of the continental united states acquisition radars of nike hercules batteries protecting the objective areas will pick up the enemy bombers inside the van trained eyes will study the radar scopes as each bomber comes within maximum range of the deadly nuclear capable weapons its doom will be sealed [Music] [Music] so my thought is we need to make a quick run for it behind one of the buildings so we're not visible to the street or just walk along the tree line for now just stay close constructed after world war one as an ordinance depot the base served as such through world war ii until the 1960s during the cold war when it became a nike missile master installation controlling all the surrounding batteries in the area these are the living quarters i guess things are boarded up there's much in here though now oh they're not that old-looking i might have to take a picture of this one these windows look new they all look like new windows because this is an old door that's it should we try the straps should we go upstairs in the bathroom yeah these are all like new wood oh man unfortunately many of the buildings had been boarded up so we had to search for any openings we could find to explore is sealed up it welded it shut with a steel bracket yeah that's how the other one was this one's definitely open just a little garage though there guard checks everywhere this place bathroom definitely a maintenance garage this room's kind of cool let's check this door before we walk by it super sealed unlocked on be all you can be in the army reserve i say we keep going for now if we find something it's unlocked it's a lot the grand reveal this is awesome luck was on our side though when we were able to gain access to the nike missile master command building switch there was people in here yeah before they boarded it up flammable storage drainable liquid not messed with performance let's keep our distance from that looks like there's more look at this part of the door the building formerly contained a computer system for command and control of up to 24 nike missile batteries the structure also acted as a fallout shelter nuclear bunker and held hvac equipment to collect hot air from the electronic equipment below this is the main control room we're always communicated oh look in there stage electric force oh dimmers for the lights dimmers for this it's a stage watch out for the stages founder stage yeah don't fall presentation room yeah yeah definitely a bracing room oh we have exit signs is this where the fallout shelter was look at this door a bunch of empty rooms yeah like a fridge anyway it's awesome down the hallway let me see people try to scrap in here alarm system cheers while none of the computer equipment had been left behind we were able to find and explore the massive hvac system with its gauges and switches watch your step [Music] you can see inside them oh check it out even look at all the switches honeywell honeywell i saw a lot of chilled water temperature maximum load [Music] 1946 it's so cool more switches my bad what's this circular charts for what look at these walls this is really cool yeah i think you're right during its operation the missile master site had 200 personnel total working in it until project nike was ended in the mid 70s more like a briefing room i'm sure they watch movies in here too they're their all-purpose room yeah some kind of curtain decontamination room decontamination some kind of shower maybe it's just a walkthrough shower bathroom they're orange over here showering let's see our curiosity can i turn this them probably our most untouched place that we've gone to look at these oh wow okay goes to the other hallway on the other side there's still water left all right instructions for the coffee maker [Music] split end of this building the base continued in active service mainly for training until it was closed in the mid 90s although it has since been designated as a historic site it continues to sit abandoned boarded up to protect from nature and vandals and its future remains unclear love it you're stupid not to try i think the whole thing slides i think you're right okay all right we'll try another one i don't see anything down there it's just more bay doors i'm pretty sure one of my friends on instagram or he got in this building before before they locked it up because like there's like cages all the way down the each side yeah i think they had munitions in those and they would put them in the trucks wait does that lead into the building now entrance all these ones on this side are sealed here now we're not getting in what do you think it was pretty cool we weren't expecting to get into that main building but yeah it was pretty sweet that it was unlocked that was right it was tree of luck i'll jiggle the lock and away we go but everything else is boarded up so it's kind of a bummer but we got a little bit of everything though a little bit yeah house kind of renovated yeah but still had a little old-time charm to it smells like it yeah i like the vines in the window yeah the vines were at that that was a really cool place that little room right there the garage wasn't too bad either garage was cool empty but it had some charm i think overall it was good yeah after our first exploration there we learned that there were abandoned ammunition bunkers still on the property unfortunately the property is massive and requires a lot of travel on foot which was tough given the ice and snow maybe a bunker is or something and this is all like could it be a gun placement but shooting up forever i don't know it's weird it's weird that they're facing up river while we were unable to find the bunkers the structure we did find left us with even more questions stay tuned for a teaser of our next exploration video in our
