[Music] decaying and collapsed in the woods rusted remnants of another era sit silently what still remains paints a fainted picture of a time when all hands were on deck to prevent the potential fallout of nuclear war these structures still contain mysteries yet to be discovered join us as we venture in to explore what [Music] remains [Music] named for the greek goddess of victory the nike missile program was put in place at the end of world war ii to provide a line of air defense against a possible attack from the soviet union bases were constructed around all the major metropolitan cities in the us each base consisted of two basic parcels the integrated fire control radar site and the missile launch site luckily the base we explored still had both areas remaining icy yeah that's a skating rink we yeah just be careful nice ice ice baby at the launch site missiles were stored underground in large magazines with elevators used to bring them up to the surface for launching when the site was abandoned the magazines were welded shut and have since become flooded and we found them to be inaccessible oh it's flooded too the ladder goes into the water yep probably 30 feet down it's pretty far yeah this spot in particular is really special to us because it's the first abandoned location we truly explored together and we visited it numerous times over the years finding new things each time with the properties currently up for sale and some structures already demolished we wanted to document the base before it disappears forever the dog kennel they definitely had yeah this is it this is the dog kennel good yep big manhole cover here too we found teddy oh yeah they're still here yeah teddy's right here we saw these the first time we came here it doesn't look like anyone really knows they're back here i took a picture of this one i remember it yeah oh it's still here first garage there's the old crane hoist right there the smaller looking garage building was the warhead building where the missiles would go to be armed with a nuclear warhead hey bobby would you like to come in my house sure welcome to my crib come on in so this i believe because i had the crane and the track up there right here you have my gymnastic rings i practice on nice i'll do a muscle up some other time so that's actually the missile test and load building i believe assembly building i think they called it yeah as you can see the crane outside and then the track in here will be able to carry the nike missile into the building get it ready go underground yeah that says it's due for a load test on july 14 1974. that's what that says [Music] hasn't had a load test in a while it's been a few years this large building that looks like a garage was actually the missile assembly building where nike missiles were put together and maintained the nike hercules missiles themselves were 41 feet long with a range of 90 miles the missiles could reach 150 000 feet in altitude while traveling at up to 2707 miles per hour oh somebody graffitied in here since we were last here i like the look of the mossy floor yeah the bathroom it's always making fun shots anyway i took it up close last time at this doorknob look at that nasty toilet that thing gets worse every time oh careful a piece of wood behind you is like swinging yeah this storage see i thought this was a dormitory it's just storage sure are you sure there's closets in some of the rooms though this storage area contains group b something and smoking chemicals munitions oh head munitions let's do it it's vultures yeah like what's that sound it's their giant turkey vultures they're huge this place literally has no more roof on it this is the room with the gate on it i think this was probably munitions oh the roof completely caved in on this side yeah this is cool all the the wheels radar control site for the missiles so there would be giant like white orb radar things on top of these towers not this one either blocked off cut it they cut it off like you can't even reach it [Music] that is so cool yeah i got closer to that i love that look at the ground too nope they covered this one too they put metal plate over the ladder so you can't climb it i wonder if they covered it up since the last time we came because i feel like it was that very first hour was the one i climbed up but this one they can't even they welded it and everything i want to look up the blueprints of this place and see what this building was uh oh yeah here we go there was definitely uh equipment sitting on the ground here because look at all the uh boxes yeah i think this was by the main computer place the colors are nice though you got the teal and the green from the moss on the floor getting a cool static there's a tiny little room with nothing in it over here breakers there's the lights there's all kind of wiring organization this is utility generator nice on off switch i wonder if this was the generator building yeah there's a lot of breakers a lot of and all the pipes and stuff yeah i think you might be right this is probably the generator room look at the sticker on these things that's so cool pretty sweet those double doors are cool this is something a lot of caged like they're protecting this room look at all the tile i wonder if this was a shower ah there's two you got the main door then you got a cage in front of it yeah i'm gonna shoot some b-roll in here this is cool it's so light the light is uh hanging over there actually that light's still up holy cow the one behind you all right it's still up a bunch of old budweiser cans super old nobody's been in here for a while i wonder what this was there's like there's a piece of glass like it was over something you know yeah there's a shelf there bathroom ah we found the bathroom look at that snow cover toilet snow cover toilet there's some wood paneling in this room still mailroom mail room get a shot of that it's got a steel door or i guess not steel door but it's a metal plate steel door yeah yeah it's just nailed on front yeah a little slot nice this is pretty preserved that's probably the nicest well the most i like the tree growing through the the vine there yeah that's neat and the teal doors dang that's a contrasting color right there if i ever saw one there's literally trees growing out from inside the building now and they've been growing for a long time nice we have reached the swimming pool for the military guys who are stationed here at the nike base they spared no expenses building right there too yeah i see it we'll check that out too that's so funny i don't remember this being here that is hilarious they could have some recreation time i guess actually i had a deep end nice so it's like a partial up above ground in it's like around half down kind of deal no this is 100 different bobby it's not as close to the root yeah oh this is cool it's a whole hallway there's the thermostat all right the ceiling glass but the light bulb survived nice and then a giant tree girl in the middle of it i think these are the bedrooms because there's closets in them that looks sweet all the paint colors in here and stuff yeah these for sure had to be like bedrooms there's no way looks like someone tried it they definitely did but that pipe is loose i would not attempt that at all they definitely tried though yeah there's no way unless i had a grappling hook like wake me up like batman or something for two decades the bases sat ready until 1974 when the project was shut down today approximately 265 nike missile bases can still be seen around the cities in the united states while many of the bases were abandoned or demolished some have lived on being redeveloped and used for other purposes and a few have been converted into museums to preserve the history of the program thankfully these bases never saw the threat of a soviet attack in their time but unfortunately the base's abandonment has let the history of the sites slip into obscurity for now these derelict sites will continue to sit in the woods at the mercy of nature and vandals [Music] thanks for watching
