Everything You Need to Know About Marvel's Illuminati | Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

[Music] what's up my comment comrades last week marvel officially confirmed that doctor strange and the multiverse of madness would introduce the illuminati into the mcu and once you know their comic background you'll realize that is a big freaking deal the illuminati first appeared in new avengers issue 7 in july of 2005 and were created by brian michael bendez and steven mcniven very similarly to how the infamous illuminati is portrayed in the real world marvel's illuminati is an organization composed of the world's most important and influential heroes and mutants who help guide events in the marvel universe that fact alone is enough to realize how huge their introduction will be for the mcu going forward anyway the founding and primary organization members are iron man doctor strange professor x name or the submariner black bolt and mr fantastic himself as for why they came together that is revealed in the 2007 one shot titled the road to civil war it starts off in wakanda many years ago with wakanda's world guard saying honored guests of the great kingdom of wakanda iron man avenger of the great american state of new york dr steven strange master of the mystic arts professor charles xavier of the xavier school for gifted youngsters dr reed richards of the world famous fantastic four keeper of the terrigen mist the inhuman king blackbull and prince namor of the great underwater city of atlantis it is the house of wakanda's honor to introduce to you king t'challa the black panther doctor strange then says i've never been to wakanda before t'challa this is just it's just beautiful black panther responds dr strange you may stay as long as you like in fact some of our high priests were hoping to break bread with you privately strange replies well that would be lovely iron man then speaks up and says and thank you t'challa for hosting this the child then before sitting down says and for the life of me i can't imagine what such a gathering is for i'm dying to hear please take the room iron man tells them i wanted to discuss what almost happened to us this week this planet was almost decimated in an interplanetary battle between two warrior races the cree and the skrull armies used earth as a battleground in their centuries-old war and i think i think it might have been our fault mr fantastic says the cree skull war is our fault iron man tells him we knew all the players we knew what they were capable of we knew these alien races have been at war with each other for forever and we knew that key members of both races had set up shop right here on planet earth of course it would come to a head namor asks so how is it our fault iron man replies i wonder if we had a more unified structure amongst ourselves i wonder if they would have thought twice about attacking this planet like they did strange asks we who iron man says if the earth is attacked again when the earth is attacked again we're the ones who will defend it there is no one else no army is ready so to the rest of the universe we're the law enforcement of this planet i'm saying maybe we should gather together and do just that neymar speaks up saying again we who iron man says the heroes us all of us the x-men the avengers the inhumans the fantastic four and everyone else we should gather we should make our own delegation instead of these little factions of heroes and mutants we've concocted running around doing the best they can maybe we could pull all our resources and all of our information and do it right but namor declines by explaining you can't even control the groups you're already in how on earth could you hope to control them as a larger body to which iron man replies that's what we're here to discuss mr fantastic then agrees with neymar and says though neymar always finds the rudest way to say it he may be right it's too big it's too hard to decide who would be in this coalition who decides who's in it who runs it who would it answer to doctor strange then chimes in i agree look at how much the un actually gets done versus how much time they spend just running the u.n the best superheroes in the world would be spending all their time dealing with bureaucracy i don't see it long story short everyone disagrees with iron man's idea to bring every hero group on earth together in one big team including professor xavier however iron man then responds saying i just think it's worth a try it's worth discussing we can make the world better than it is we can do more than what we're doing i want to do more namor tells them you're a fool and here's why how many convicted criminals and supposed ex-mutant terrorists do you have on the avengers right now the scarlet witch quicksilver hawkeye who else how many questionable characters have you had on the team altogether he then points to professor x saying exactly how do you screen these mutant students you take in at your school xavier i hear rumors of a mutant assassin working for the canadian secret services would you allow him on the team he then points to black bolt saying wasn't black bolt's brother an architect of the cree invasion of earth isn't that what we've heard have you killed this man for his crimes or is he in your castle right now and you want to shine a spotlight on all of this you think you could put these people up as role models and delegates for the entire planet earth that is completely deluded now something about what namor says there triggers a shift in the conversation to something bigger when mr fantastic adds you're right about one thing iron man the information we all had pieces of information little pieces of the pre-school situation before it escalated we could have dealt with it sooner had we met a meeting just like this could have saved a lot of people's lives doctor strange then says so we meet privately like this mr fantastic ads for the big things namor then speaks up saying i could see myself trusting the people in this room but no one could know we do this i don't trust your so-called iron man that interrupts saying yes we get it you don't trust our teammates we understand namor tells them no family no wives no one if one of you shared a secret of my atlantis that came back to harm anyone in my kingdom the hell i would bring to the surface world iron man replies why are you always ready to attack us you team up with magneto when it suits you but you can't have a civil conversation with us without threatening namor looks at iron man and sternly says it's not a threat it's at this point they all take it to a vote on whether or not this group of seven form a secret committee to discuss and determine course on planetary and interplanetary threats namor mr fantastic professor x black bolt doctor strange and iron man all raised their hand in favor but black panther thinks it's a bad idea and votes no saying you just decided all by yourselves that you are the earth's protectors and that you and only you not your teammates or family are trustworthy enough to include in the process what happens when you disagree when one of these earth-changing moments finds you all at odds with one another here in a secret meeting what happens then walk away now as black panther does exactly that despite t'challa's wise concern and warning the remaining six characters of iron man name or mr fantastic professor x black bolt and doctor strange became the founding members of marvel's illuminati from here the illuminati would go on to play our role in iconic storylines like civil war where the illuminati were responsible for launching the hulk into outer space so he wouldn't interfere with the civil war event that was going on down on earth this in turn was the catalyst for the entire planet hulk and world war hulk story arcs they also played major roles in the infinity gauntlet storyline secret wars and more at one point in the new avengers title the illuminati even took possession of the six infinity stones dividing them among their group with each member responsible to hide and protect one of the stones later in the 2015 secret war story and despite his initial reservations black panther also went on to form another version of the illuminati but the point is guys the illuminati joined the mcu is a crazy exciting development for the marvel cinematic universe this is obviously a very powerful group and you can see how they could be an incredible important piece of the mcu going forward i mean first and foremost having the illuminati means we now have charles xavier in the mcu and while his character died in the logan movie the most recent teaser for doctor strange in the multiverse of madness appears to imply that this will be the x-men the animated series professor x an alternate version of the charles xavier patrick stewart played in the 20th century fox x-men movies but whether we're talking alternate reality versions or not this introduction means mutants will now exist in the mcu one way or another it's also highly possible that this will have our first appearance of reed richards and maybe even neymar the submariner in this movie as members of the illuminati marvel already announced the upcoming fantastic four movie so this would be a perfect place to introduce mr fantastic as a founding member of the illuminati similarly we also know marvel is going to introduce neymar in wakanda forever so this would be a great place to get our first appearance of namor in the mcu as well the bottom line is that with the introduction of the illuminati we could see the introduction of several key marvel characters into the marvel cinematic universe as well as get an expanded view of alternate versions of various characters and a look at how far the multiverse might take us but man i can't wait to find out and once we see the movie we'll be right back here to talk easter eggs and break down theories of what might be next with that said what do you guys
