The 10 Smartest Human Characters In Marvel Comics

[Music] what's up my comic comrad's a couple of weeks ago we gave you our list of the 10 most intelligent human characters in the dc universe well today as promised we're back to do the same for the marvel universe and i'll add right off the top that we're breaking the rules and shaking things up with this list just like we did with our dc episode speaking of dc about a week ago we got the unfortunate news that at t and warner brothers officially laid off hundreds of people throughout dc entertainment which includes many high-level staff members at dc comics division and the entirety of dc direct this is a sad and significant move concerning one of our most loved comic book publishers and will undoubtedly have huge ramifications in the industry going forward having said that the trouble behind the scenes at dc and the possibility of this happening is something that tim and i have talked about extensively on the podcast for the past six months and if you're looking for our thoughts on these latest actions closures and layoffs by warner we put it all out there in our most recent podcast which you can find right here but hey we're here for a countdown so let's take a look at marvel's 10 most intelligent humans [Music] kicking things off at number 10 is valerie richards for those of you who may be unfamiliar with her valerie is the highly intelligent daughter of reed richards and sue storm and she first appeared in fantastic 415 in 1999. she has a relatively complicated story arc that includes initially being stillborn brought back to life by her brother franklin then sent to an alternate timeline where she was raised by dr doom and sue storm who are married in that universe only later to find her way back to her own timeline get reunited with her family as an adult help save the world but die in the process then restored back to life yet again as an unborn child in sue storm's womb and born a second time to her true parents sweet baby jesus that's a lot the bottom line is she inherited her vast intelligence from her father reed richards who has even stated that he believes valerie may have surpassed him in intelligence by the age of three not to mention she has displayed incredible acts of genius during her limited time in comics and marvel comics ranks her as the fifth smartest human in the marvel universe to which many of you are now saying how is she number 10 on your list of marvel says she's number five well as you'll see with the rest of this list we disagree with marvel's list in fact valerie almost didn't even make it onto our list because she has such a small range of appearances and feats to draw from and there are several other highly intelligent characters with deep histories waiting in the wings but with reed richards himself saying she may have surpassed him in intelligence that's pretty hard to overlook coming in at number nine is probably the most powerful brainiac on our list and that is adam brasher blue marvel on top of being powerful enough to take on the likes of hyperion and century which is quite a statement all by itself brasher is a high-level genius with a phd in theoretical physics and a serious expertise in anti-matter and other fringe sciences he actually gained his superpowers while leading a team of scientists in the creation of a machine called the negative reactor in an attempt to harness antimatter and use it to generate limitless energy the machine exploded and boom antimatter based superpowers but his incredible intelligence is most on display when he played a central role in converting galactus from the devourer of worlds into the lifebringer what i'm saying is that earns him his spot number eight on our list of marvel's most intelligent humans is maura mctaggart she is a brilliant geneticist and the world's foremost expert on superhuman genetic mutation professor x viewed her as the most intelligent mind on mutant genetics and she came to the aid of the x-men numerous times over the years which includes the time she found a cure for the legacy virus which threatened to wipe out both the human and mutant populations moira has recently been reimagined as a reincarnating mutant during jonathan hickman's x-men run but it doesn't alter her place on our list at number seven is another genius in the field of genetics although an evil one and that would be nathaniel essex aka mr sinister this dude has a long list of accolades including the mastery of multiple sciences and was considered to be the most intelligent mind of his generation however it was his demented obsession with genetic mutations and the pursuit of creating the perfect race where his evil genius manifested itself in fact his work and unorthodox experimentation regarding mutations got the attention of freaking apocalypse who ultimately granted essex his powers in exchange for his expertise think about that mr sinister is so intelligent that a god wanted to leverage his genius essex is responsible for countless technological and biological advancements within the x-men and marvel universe including prediction of genetic mutations cloning and the creation of mutant hybrids just to name a few his mastery of unparalleled knowledge of genetics human and alien biology cloning all levels of physics engineering and so much more easily make him one of marvel's most formidable minds landing at number six is black panther aka the king of wakanda t'challa as ruler of the most technologically advanced nation on earth it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that t'challa is easily one of marvel's most intelligent humans we all know about the enhanced abilities he derives from the panther god but not everyone is aware that independent of those abilities t'challa has a genius level intellect and a phd in physics from oxford university but he didn't stop there he actually combined his knowledge of physics and alchemy to develop a new scientific discipline known as shadow physics this unique expertise allowed him to track vibranium at a quantum level as well as create weapons that are highly effective against the borderline indestructible metal t'challa is also a master engineer inventor weapons designer and builder and to top it all off he has a photographic memory people altogether this guy is a brilliant beast number five on our list is the genius human side of marvel's green goliath bruce banner this one doesn't need much explanation as banner has been one of marvel's most brilliant minds since his creation in 1962. he's a nuclear physicist and by far the world's foremost expert on gamma radiation but his expertise and genius does not stop there he's also a master in several other fields including medicine chemistry biology psychology and engineering among others that incredible intellect has enabled him to master and control the hulk as well as create and invent incredible technologies on par with the more well-known tech from stark industries what i'm saying is do not underestimate the smarts of bruce banner coming in at number four is the first ant-man hank pym as the world's greatest biochemist hank is most known for his discovery of a group of unusual subatomic particles he calls the pin particles he then figured out how to trap and manipulate those particles within separate serums in order to infinitely shrink or grow matter including a human being after successfully testing it on himself ant-man was born and as ant-man hank would discover the microverse and the macroverse but his scientific expertise goes well beyond biochemistry and nanotech hank has also mastered quantum physics robotics artificial intelligence and entomology which is where the ant-man part comes in but yes if all that doesn't explain why hank ranks so high on our list he also created ultron so yeah i think that should sum it up leading off the big three is the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist himself tony stark like bruce banner stark's genius intellect has few rivals in the marvel universe unlike almost every other character on our list tony stark achieves all of his incredible feats solely with the use of his intelligence using a combination of his mastery of mathematics physics chemistry electrical and mechanical engineering computer science artificial intelligence quantum mechanics and a brilliant business mind tony has amassed a list of inventions and technological breakthroughs that is second to none not to mention the insane lineup of weapons tech he's developed most notably of course being his series of iron man armors which he wields as a leading member of the avengers you can really go on forever listing his intellectual feats but there's no question he deserves a place among the smartest minds in all of marvel taking the runner-up spot is marvel's iconic bad guy victor von doom or as we all know him dr doom there's quite a bit of controversy about whether doctor doom should be number one or number two on this list because the reality is it's pretty freaking close von doom is a polymath who has such a high level intellect that he quickly masters whatever field of science or discipline he pursues as such it would take a long while to list his areas of expertise it's easier to just say you name it and he probably mastered it in short he is a super genius level scientist inventor a master of sorcery who has challenged and outsmarted beans as powerful as thanos galactus and the celestials and did i mention he runs his own country all i'm saying is do you guys run your own country yeah didn't think so and taking the top spot on our list is none other than reed richards aka mr fantastic as i said this was a tough one between reed richards and doctor doom but ultimately we had to give it to mr fantastic and his galactic level intellect he is much more than the stretchy leader of the fantastic four richards has the most limitless analytical human mind in the marvel universe his mastery of every scientific discipline from physics to microbiology has allowed him to make breakthroughs in time travel extra-dimensional travel robotics energy generation genetic mutations and a crap ton more among his most impressive inventions you'll find the afterlife transporter which is a machine that transports a living human to the afterlife allowing them to communicate with the dead then there is the bridge which gives reed the ability to look into other realities and did i mention he partnered with tony stark and hank pym to create a clone of thor from a single piece of thor's hair yeah that's the thing that happened essentially if given the time reads unparalleled intelligence allows him to solve any problem he is presented with leaving him sitting pretty at number one but before we wrap up we want to give an honorable mention to moon girl she's actually the character that marvel has at number one but as you can see she didn't even make our list and why is that because she's a relatively new character who first appeared in 2016 and while she's a cool character we're not into the idea of just introducing a new character and declaring them the smartest in a comic universe without first giving reasonings examples and context for that character earning that consideration so maybe that changes in the future as the character progresses but as son to take the throne i just gotta tell you guys this thor title is easily one of the top five books being released from any of the big publishers and finally we have batman issue 97 the joker's army is growing hour by hour with weapons beyond anything the clown prince of crime has ever used before batman must hold his mind together so he could strike the final blow and take back the city but how can he heal the rifts he created in his life to get the help he needs again this is easily one of my favorite titles coming out right now james tynen is doing a fantastic job with his batman run and
