everyone we're here to talk about the state of iink in 2023 so basically we're going to try and run through all the devices that are worth considering at this point in the year in this year and this is khed if you've not met him before my name is kit but I khed I really love chatting to you every time I chat to you um you always tell me something I didn't know about like the history of the ink tablets so you just got such a long like um wealth of knowledge along like depth of knowledge of the whole industry around the in so I'm really looking forward to hearing uh your opinions on where we are now and where where where this is going with these devices being some examples I can't hear you so uh let's double check that I wonder if it's on this one I bet your microphone is on this one try again K can you hear me now yeah we can hear you now thank you okay mics on that one thanks thanks um thanks for the introduction um everybody knows you at this point I think you're the best source of um eink devices in actual use so um that's that's um I think uh everybody knows uh going to your channel what to expect and to see the devices actually in in use and I think that's a big Pro um so um I'd say let's Jump Right In let's Jump Right In yeah well hopefully this is gonna be really useful if you're looking to make a buying decision then I'm going to organize them here on my tab X which is the the only one we've got which is kind of big enough for to show all of these devices and we're going to organize them into these categories uh ones that are excellent not takers that are organizers that are pleasure readers essentially reading for pleasure that are basically academic readers that are productivity devices that are digital sketchbooks and that are orientated for writers and writing so um that is all the devices we're going to talk about we're going to give you a quick Pro and a con on each one and um we're going to go ahead and we're going to put them into these categories and hopefully that will make you uh help you with any buying decisions comments obviously are available and we will stop for some uh Q&A uh short amount of time for each one because we've got a lot of devices to con consider so we're going to jump straight in with the tab Ultra and I'm just saying the tab Ultra line really because we've just had a launch of a new one which I don't think anyone has in their hands yet uh but I'm going to use the tab Ultra c as my example for that my biggest Pro for the tab ulty is the keyboard case I do think the keyboard case is absolutely brilliant thinking about it now actually just I'm about to use my fingerprint to unlock it maybe the position of the keyboard case could the fingerprint when it's in the keyboard case could actually be a con but uh I'll have to put my uh code in off camera the taby I really enjoy the keyboard case and because the screen is optimized so well the way it handles apps is just absolutely brilliant so the keyboard case and the book super refresh technology they do make this an excellent device for using productivity apps uh things that I don't like about it it's not the best reader by some distance because of its uh its size and its weight it's a quite chunky thing does have those sharp Corners which has been discussed quite a little bit and when you put it in its best feature which is the keyboard case it's a poor reader because you've got these keyboard these keys on the back of it and it's just not nice for sort of holding in the hand like this as a reader so that that's my opinion on um the tab ultral line anything else to add on that one KH no I think you summarized it perfectly um nothing to add where does it go it goes in productivity uh device for sure yeah absolutely uh any others does it go in any others maybe maybe organize it's you know it's a multi-purpose device you can do a lot with it it is probably the one that could go across most but uh I think the one I wouldn't put it in as pleasure readers no for sure yeah definitely not yeah I think I'll probably pop it over here in organizer because you certainly could do that on on it in there yeah yeah and you can organize yourself in any apps there and and probably a writer as well I think those are probably the best ones it is suited to academic reading as well so I'll probably pop it in there as well although this might get quite busy in in here so maybe try and fit them all on one line okay any thoughts from the the um audience as well please just absolutely shout in where do you think it should go any other pros and cons that you think about it as well so yeah um it is not as you say tab Ultra is not a reader for pleasure but it is actually a really good writer because of that really big um really big Pro which is the keyboard case I'm going to now talk about the note Airline okay so this is the note air3 C and uh there isn't a note air3 uh yet anything do you reckon they'll bring out a not free it um to be honest I suspect they will because um you know there's the 300 PPI in cardo display available um like it's available on the Kindle scrip um we heard it's about exclusivity on the on the display itself um but I think it would make sense to release a black and white uh version with uh with the same basically the same setup yeah maybe try and make it cheaper than the the the um this one maybe even try well make maybe even try and maintain the price currently of the not A2 plus which is not far less than this it's only $50 less than this which is that's the one about releasing a color black and white rather is how do they price that I think some really um interesting points already from at am seem delay when writing for the writing to smoo out um I think you mean the kind of anti-al in sort of after that and there's that first stroke there as well although you kind of you just forgive it for all its positives really and what's my Pro for this one the no airs are so thin they're so light and then they're also so capable and really this device I mean when the note air one and two came out it was so powerful for you know for an ink tablet it was the first time when really you needed more processors and uh now they've put in a really you know it's not Cutting Edge by um mobile arm chips by any stretch to imagine ation but it is uh a better chip than you find in a lot of in Inc tablets and it is the 2.8 I've been asked a lot of questions of this I think even on the marketing materials they got confused between 2.4 uh gigahertz in terms of um the the 2.4 GHz is a is a frequency for Wi-Fi communication and that's where I think that communication is come from because it does have the 2.4 GHz communication as you'd expect and I'm struggling with cons I was really struggling to think of the cons and I think it is just if you the con for this is just the pro of the ultral line and it's the reason for that forking that differentiation if you're looking for it not to launch into this note taking kind of uh launcher here which is really quick for getting into your notepads and into your books if you're looking for it to launch mainly into an apps and have things like widgets on the front then that's the kind of reason that that's the the con of this and all of the new um all of the new features in the new operating system are really good and they should well be coming to all old books devices Beyond a certain age I would imagine that it's s less than three years old I would think I noticed something else today um when I was using it I noticed something about the um the keyboard the handwriting keyboard so the book's keyboard looks like this and you got the handwriting option here and normally it defaults to uh where is it this no not that this View and you can write here now somebody must have complained that this is quite an uncomfortable place to write because now it has this little expand button here I've just noticed this today I really like this and it guesss where everything and now everywhere is the scratch P that's cool for the writing um and that's quite good and also they've got this little I was thinking oh yeah what they need is a little function down here to allow you to move the cursor around or that exists is here and you can select forward and backwards like this as well so actually some of the things that you know that's a real benefit of having the keyboard there is you can do things like shift and use the buttons to select text and contrl c contrl v and now you've got your shortcuts in a little pette just here so actually that's an update that uh hasn't been in much um documentation but I just found that earlier today and thought I really like that so it's difficult to find some cons for this one at this point I'm really kind of enamored with this device at the minute um and um that what I'm saying is that there's no keyboard case really and that's the thing if you want the keyboard case you want the keyboard case and so you're going to go for the tab Ultra line so where we going to put this C is there anything else to add on that and any other points from the audience basically I'd say it's in pretty similar uh categories as the T Ultra Series but less as productivity device because simply like you said key keyboard case is missing I think uh you can put it in not takers uh yeah obviously um it's it's simply better to hold so full disclosure I don't have it here um but the shape you know yeah yeah the shape is the same as the as the not2 plus so it's it's simply better to hold in the hand I think it's great it's actually really good to draw on as well so I'm possibly tempted to put it over here um and does it does it have the same paper like uh texture on the on the screen as the not plus yeah it does exactly yeah yeah and that's really good and they also they added um in the uh pencil feature they've added a more textured pencil as well which is very welcome so it used to be that you couldn't really do the differentiation between the pressure levels as well as the Tilt but now it has both pressure and tilt and then it's frozen up and sto working right when possibly because it thinks that is a scribble oh it's just totally frozen up so there we are this is the joys of live stream I I actually really like this because you see this it isn't something I don't I think this is the first time this has happened but it's happened right here on a live stream and I hopefully it be back it think it's just restarted look so it's probably going to restart from scratch there we go nice not restarted from scratch but it did need to do a full reset so we could probably list that in a con it's got stage right uh yeah let's move on should we um any other places that that would go could you put it in a pleasure reader do you think um possibly yeah because it's easier easier to hold and more comfortable but still it's it's it's I'd say it's a tough sell as a pleasure reader if you primarily want to read because obviously there are other devices more suable and but if if you want to only uh use uh one device and not two it it can serve as a pleasure reader as well it can yeah absolutely um Amanda says yeah couldn't you pair it with a third party Bluetooth keyboard for productivity yes you certainly could uh but I guess just then you've got a second thing that isn't in a case um does it still have the stroke issue yes it does but it's but it's like less it's like a shorter delay and less often happening so um we'll see when when we've kind of got full reviews and uh when they've gone through because they they even released a bug fix on the day of launch so um you know they are quite quick at fixing these things so fingers crossed that'll be fixed great and my next advice is the just one thing to add sorry sorry just one thing to add about the um not a uh 3C is it has no camera so that's a big big Pro for me personally because I I really don't like it on the T Ultra Series it might just be me but is it just because of the wobble or is it because you just think well I don't need this um it's both the the the Wobble is annoying because you have you basically have to use a case and I usually use my devices without a case and and I didn't find it as usable as it was at verti so i' I'd rather not have it so it's a pro for me on the on the not a3c big one yeah and am agrees with you there um the next device I'm going to talk about is the tab x uh I'm going to stick it straight in academic reader because I absolutely love it for big PDFs um and it is it's just got great area for notes I'm really showing that off right now uh every time I pick this out and and I use this I'm thinking why don't I use this like all of the time because I just think it's absolutely brilliant and and I guess that's the thing what am I going to put in my bag when I go maybe it isn't something that is this size that's the the only thing about it um for A4 PDFs reading on on this size it's just perfect frankly and a big if you haven't yet used a big uh iink screen they're all excellent look you know don't be shy to look back at used ones from a few years ago because just the pleasure of having a big earing streen for your big PDFs and reading them at full size is excellent uh but the the cons I've gone for there's no color as you can see there's no keyboard case for it I really thought that this device would come out with a keyboard case you never know one might be around the corner I don't have any inside knowledge of that or anything so don't don't think that that's the case um and also it only has the 202 no it's less than that it's 207 I think PPI isn't it it's a it's a lower pixel density although you you don't look at this ever and think oh that that's so pixelated I can't even read these words you it's looks perfectly fine well at all times it's only when you're right up against when you've got it right next to a 300 PPI screen you can tell the difference you certainly don't really tell the difference between this and the 227s of the of the world and anything to add or any other places this should go um no I like it the sketchbooks all well yeah Sketchbook um makes sense and I could see it as um a writer but I'm probably not going to put it on there uh but you know what what else is very good for is you can use it as a as an extra monitor um and yeah more on that from me in the next few weeks and months for uh discussing that use case for e in tab taets uh there's a few comments Bluetooth keyboard is a lag notable I don't think so it might it is must be worse than a wired keyboard but no Bluetooth is pretty rapid I'd say Bluetooth is faster than the screen response is going to be and the screen response isn't a problem so that's my my take on that one yeah agreed yeah hug another huge plus that the three SE doesn't have a camera and tabex is great for sheet music yeah I bet absolutely fabulous for for for that um I don't know if there's a sort of Bluetooth pedal you could connect to be able to uh Turn the Page by um with your feet Bruno maybe that that would be a useful thing okay cool should we move on I think you're up next C it yes so my book that Min see was waiting this whole time so uh that's probably one of my favorite uh devices right now um with the with the K 3 screen in the 7.8 in uh size segment um what I love about it is the uh quality of the of the front light um I think that's hands down one of the best in that size segment and even smaller devices that usually are very uniform um have a hard time hard time competing with it um contrast levels are great and the software as well so you have all the options um basically as with other books devices and what I love here is that they also use the more tablet uh centered UI uh compared to the note air series so I like this one better I the other one is fine as well but I think this is more uh versatile so I like this one better and I like it in this form factor cool um big Pro as well no camera here um so is that is that a for anyone in the audience just just please shout shout is is the no camera going in a con list for anyone in the audience I'm interested sorry mate but have you got any cons for it um yeah I'd say it's pretty heavy um so one of the things is um what what we have with with a couple of books devices is that the official weight uh in the in the official specs is off by uh I'm not sure exactly what it's uh I think 30 grams or something like that so it's pretty heavy and you notice it when holding it in the hand especially if you if you're reading uh or using it for longer periods of time um bettery life isn't the best but it's uh fine so you you can't you usually have no problems uh getting it through the day so I'd say very Manor cons and um the pros are are uh uh more than enough to to give this uh a recommendation cool excellent so where does it go um I'd say we can put it in the pleasure reader um section because in that size segment you have uh really really nice color saturation for um or really nice uh colors saturation isn't obviously the best compared to an LCD but still um and and contrast levels are also great for reading and with the 150 PPI cator color screen um you don't have the problems anymore uh compared to the older ones so this one is actually one of my favorites as I said before and um pleasure reader obviously you can use um it for note taking as well I think that's um that's something that uh makes sense because um you it's compact you can take it with you um easily so compared to the t x or or even the 10.3 inch devices um it doesn't take a lot of room so I think as a notaker um it's also PR nice excellent yeah so my wife would certainly concer with the pleasure reader she's enjoying Kindle on it absolutely very much uh yeah cool okay um I I would be tempted to think productivity devices but it the size is not what you'd go for if you were after a productivity device I think you're next again my man you got remarkable two yes remarkable to so basically the uh the classic of of digital notepads um so what I have here is the uh keyboard case with the remarkable tool um sorry sorry yeah yeah so what what I have here is the keyboard case with the remarkable to um which is exceptional so the build quality is exceptional um in terms of software features um there are some things I I would say that could be better um but in general um the keyboard is of really good uh quality so um you can easily pop it out and I even like it like it better than the one uh for the T Ultra Series simply because it up nicer so closing this one um will hide the keyboard behind the device and you can uh FP the C to the other yeah um what I like about the remarkable as well is that they continuously um develop the software and features um so that's a big plus compared to other ones um and the writing field is obviously a big plus as well so you don't have an inbuilt front light which is obviously uh which can obviously be a problem if you uh like to write in the dark or um take notes something uh somewhere uh not not greatly lit but um what's great about not having a frontlet it's a more paper like experience and the display stck is uh more compact so you so the um the contents on the screen appear to be um closer to the to the pen so that's that's really nice and remarkable yeah um so one con that's continuously annoying me with the with this one is that it doesn't have a sleep cover so I think that's that's bit ridiculous in in in in this time so yeah um I don't know any other device in in that price segment that doesn't have a sleep cover so this is really something that aned me and you can you can kind of forgive him for leaving out the front light for going for extra thin yeah but yeah so the front light thing um that's something they they made a conscious decision about it because they wanted to have the most paper like experience they can get so I understand the reasoning behind it but not adding a sensor for for the for the cover um is is it's it seems small it seems really small but it's annoying um I like I like others uh much better because they're waking up instantly you don't lose much time so I don't think it's a problem obviously you can start writing immediately without any delay but still I think it would be better uh for it to have uh sleep cover so that's my very small uh Con on this one cool so uh I guess it's definitely going in note takers right yes yes 100% uh it does it belong anywhere else tempted to put it in SketchBook myself Sketchbook yes absolutely um writer as well with the with the keyboard color yeah and possibly even in organizers with the right PDF file so if you have a a good PDF file but um obviously the Android devices are more capable so the some quick questions and points does the marable have the best paper like feeli or are most devices equal to each other in that regard I think they're pretty equal I mean I I think between the no air and the Lenovo and this and the Kel scribe and the remarkable they're both very similar feelings and then I also think there's a special mention for supernote which I'm going to talk about soon um which because has a different but also quite paperlike feel uh any point on that one hared no I agree so paper like the paper leg feel of the devices you mentioned and maybe the Lenovo smart paper as well um is pretty nice uh the Box devices the T Ultra devices um have a more smooth uh surface um but besides that I think all of all of the note uh taking devices are very Sim right camera should be quaranteed to one line it should not spread yeah fine so you'll accept them in the ultra because now you don't need to buy an ultra because you can buy the no f3c I think is the point there uh somebody using the tab Min for school notes than the Evo it's my favorite allround device yeah definitely if you just want one device right now it could be could well be a good allrounder uh you know and and your use case involves pleasure reading sorry that was that one then I think that's a good um option there and then lastly would you write a book on remarkable with a keyboard cover the pro I think the problem is you probably couldn't write a full book I think you could start each chapter but you couldn't edit a full book you could make a good go you could start if if you if you wanted to use it to get your thoughts down get the first draft out of chapters at a time I think you'd be okay but I don't think you'd be because you don't have things like spell check even or you know so it's just some and and uh the the the formatting is still a bit funny so I think absolutely just wanted to say that yeah if you if you want to write a book then you want to go for something like the books the no ER or the ultra that can write directly into word um or uh yeah I would say that's basically if you want to write the whole thing do the whole thing on there then you want something that can let you use a full-on word processor really there's loads of great comments uh I'm going to just um what type tip would you recommend they mostly offer a matte glass offer for a matte um they're mostly the same wack on felt nibs do you have anything to say about the nib Choice um um I have tried the so basically um all of the all of the pens um that come with uh the devices are the same except the super node if I'm not mistake and the supern uh comes with a titanium nip by default which has a different writing feel but obviously is more durable so personally I like uh the regular tips more um because of the more paper like feeling but obviously you have to you have to change them because the wear um because of the wear so my preference is is with this one cool so General like I said it's it's basically the same for the for the nips themselves there are some options I think I feel like wack on probably and some other companies as well will release a kind of pleer of different choices uh gradually over the next little while but uh we'll see um they yeah the felt feeling ones are the ones that are used by most of the devices and they're good um speaking of right experience would you preferred pen and why um was that the big me pen is that your preferred pen no absolutely not yeah what's your preferred one um I think I like the remarkable pen uh most I have it I have it somewhere else um but I think this one the uh I think it's called the pro pen uh the more expensive one the remarkable pen so do you like the the one with the the books one with the Eraser on it is that one um yeah that's that's also pretty nice so I like the weight of both um both have pretty nice weights um the remarkable pen what's special about the remarkable pen is uh the rasor so um it feels a bit like a real erazor brother rest and and going over the screen feels like you're going over paper with that's pretty cool um but just because you asked me about the big me band um this one I like the least because uh simply because it has this uh coating um so um this one it's it's pretty thick and has this coating and it's in my opinion not very nice to hold in the hand it it has nice functions and additional functions functions which are cool um like for example the um here the laser pointer um if you need it um but but for writing and for holding it in the hand it's it's definitely not in the in the top list cool uh we're going on with the Kindle scrun live next are you ready for that yes we'll we'll save the questions for just a little bit later if that's okay everyone because we want to get through all these list of devices we've got yeah um I will I will keep this one a bit shorter um kle scribe um launched with uh let's let's just say with uh two with two uh basic what's should they call it basic things which with with the two basic soft with two basic software feature so missing essential features you would expect from uh no taking device um at this point it got much better with three three feature updates um and um at this so I like it as an e-reader um what it is um mainly so you should think about it as an e-reader and not as a not taking device first because it comes from the reading side um but the not taking uh functions like I said got much better over time and are pretty nice and what I especially like about it is the uh pencil so the pencil um so the pen uh pencil function here um is one of the best I think with tilting and pressure levels I think they nailed the uh pressure levels yeah uh on the Kos scribe so that works especially well here um but the biggest con is that it's still missing uh software features which would make life easier um so they I think the last one is month was months ago uh so the last one was released months ago um they recently updated I think the uh Android and iOS apps for additional functions but um the uh Kindle scribe wasn't updated for quite a while now so hopefully they will continue working on it but um but at this point VI it as a e r first and as a no taking device second no taking is nice but not as nice as on dedicated devices leor Mar to and to get to the question um I actually so that's you can put um you can put up a PDF file and add through it from the PDF file and copied it to the to the notebook um I wouldn't have I wouldn't have uh gotten the shape as perfect as as I got it here is it the Enterprise is not the Enterprise is it yeah it's the Enterprise D all right okay from from the top D yeah from the Next Generation Next Generation I thought that was round at the front so that's okay Bard's first ship is it uh yeah no not not not exactly but it's it's the one um so yeah so it's not know is it a pleasure reader or an academic reader or both um academic reader I wouldn't say because uh PDF functions aren't especially great um leure reader definitely not take her as well I'd say um with a few drawbacks yeah um digital Sketchbook possibly because like I said it's um it has really nice pressure levels uh with with the pencil um yeah I think that's you lot yeah absolutely brilliant um that's wonderful there's some really good questions as well is not War's fault this one is not wor got it no this one not the the Enterprise uh e was warful oh he that's from we don't need this to go into a track Fest everybody um we need to look at the um Kindle the other Kindles is that a Kindle you've got there as well as well is that the Oasis yeah yeah yeah I have the Oasis here um but I think um you're first with the yeah I'm going to go this is the paper it's good uh one of the cons is just how sorry one of the pros is just how fast it wakes up every single time I mean I actually haven't been using this um at all all for ages and it's still got lots of battery life and it still uh just wakes up in you know T tiny amount of time from a very deep sleep con desing a lot of battery you it's still halfway uh full and I honestly haven't charged this since um since I last read on it which might well be in April actually um just been using other things and obviously testing them all out um it's got a great screen it's always been the 300 dots per inch it's always had amazing lighting um this is the paper white signature you know wireless charging I don't know why they thought that it was a feature anyone needed in a Kindle because it you never need to charge it but you know it's got that as well uh the the the cons is single purpose single purpose um just for reading and just for pleasure reading really so I think we'll only put it in one box here I'm saying Kindle and Kindle paper white and you've got the Kindle Oasis there as well um which you're going to talk about for a moment afterwards but um my daughter has the Kindle and the Kindle kids edition I think is a fantastic uh you know really fantastic value device and she absolutely loves it absolutely loves it and you know she she's a early reader now so she's got some early reading books on it but it tells her stories and she really gets into the audible things um it's also got a lovely case this cork case is lovely but her one has a lovely um you know unicorn case on it uh which is pink and you know it's it's a great device for your family to get to get your child something that they can really enjoy books on um in that way and really love it as much as you know she loves it as much as if I bought her an iPad or something like that you know uh possibly even more because it's just more appropriate for her age at this point as well and I think it's an absolutely fabulous device and I think that they Great Value um Great Library so anything to add on the Kindle I'm going to stick it in pleasure reader yeah uh Kindle paper white is exceptional contrast levels and lighting quality I'd say um and yeah I think every nothing nothing else to add cool go for the Oasis tell us about that interesting yeah that's interesting for a couple of reasons uh first um it's um one of the very few devices with an aluminum frame and this um this SM metrical design um not only on the front but also on the back of the device which is um especially comfortable to hold um you have uh this really great uh Paton buttons here which are uh with really great haptics um front Le is also very even not as even as on the Kindle Paper wide I'd say but still very even the one thing um that's curious is that Amazon hasn't refreshed this one yet so um people have been expecting a a refresh and I was one of them for the Amazon uh devices um event which was held couple of weeks ago um so I fully expected them to release the next version of this one um which didn't happen um the biggest con here is it still has a micro USB um micro USB connector um which is obviously outdated at this point so um I think I don't have any active micro USB devices around me anymore um on the USBC um so that's the biggest con with this one I think other than that it's still a great e- reader and I still recommend it if you can live with uh with getting an extra extra cable for this one to charge yeah so apart from the USBC what else would you update what else would you want to see them update on it um I would expect uh not taking features like on the Kindle scribe um maybe they maybe so um the Kindle paper white I have it on on my other desk uh the Kindle paper white has essentially the same screen size with 6.8 in this one is seven in um so there's not much of a difference and I I also expect them if they update it to grw it in size to 7.8 or eight inches and and include uh not taking features so it's not the OS anymore but yeah sorry yeah yeah exactly yeah but that kind of Premium um aluminium build with a little stylus maybe that slots in or something would be really nice to see wouldn't it um yeah cool I can see it yeah maybe color as well um some really great comments guys uh yeah the paper white is so darn good for a dedicated reading absolutely uh yeah uh just going back a few few Kindle ones go there's loads more um comments to go through as well but we'll save them up just so we move through the stuff glad to hear that thank you so much I really love to hear that I um you know I make a lot of content about a lot of devices and I just love it when somebody comes back and says it's been a good one great value that shame wasn't it that that was all about Great Value and I'm presuming that that value will be back again in um for things like Black Friday but still um I also got a comment somebody telling me that the referred one they got a full 64 gbt premium pen refurbed for two you know certified Amazon refurbed uh two uh250 uh you know like that's a great tendous value right and and and said there was no way to tell that it was um you know you know in it uh used at all um and this is a really interesting question what's your think thinking about specialized ear in versus allpurpose ones kle has done a very well on a single use device um yeah would you like to have a go field in that one k what you think about that one um I think it really depends on what you want to do um personally I like to have options when using devices so I like the books devices for uh their versatility and you can use them as pleasure readers um but what what I what happens from time to time is that you um close the book and do something else on the device which is obviously um can be a a con as well um so I like kandles for the dedicated um purpose and I still use them so I actually uh took the K loes with me for my last vacation um and also took uh the tab Ultra C with me um to have all options um yeah yeah that's that's a good combo right there isn't it I think that's it I think it's uh you know when you look across this list now and obviously I've put the kind is in the pleasure reader you want to think is of May maybe you've got space in your life for one of these less expensive pleasure readers um and you got space for a productivity device maybe um and that's that's what I think you're talking about there how it good great question L thank you uh and this last one about Kindle um Kindle scbe wouldn't open a Kindle but by Steven w from from 2023 tab C can and all over Android phones and a can same with some PDFs but rendering on Tab C some PDFs can be awful yeah the um have you discovered the uh it's called dithering they call it something else like image enhancement mode on PDFs you might want to turn it off when you're looking at kind of simple line art type diagrams and on when you're looking at pictures it might be something that you want to look at um there as well uh but yes I agree it is still coloring it can still be a little bit hit miss anything to add on that comment k um no just one thing to just a small thing one thing to know is books optimized uh for color saturation I think the t uh Ultra C so colors can be a bit off and that might be uh playing or or uh adding to the to the rendering problem problems uh described yeah thank you very much for saying that for us uh everybody much like button um and yeah um I think we crack on with the next device now my buddy you're up next think yes um I have the book uh bucket book ink bed color two here um which is actually not the device I want to talk about because uh pocketbook released or announced the ink bed color three uh I think two days ago um the inkit color 3 um has a KO 3 screen um this one was released in summer uh 2023 and has a K plus screen so I would recommend to wait for the color for the imput color three to be released um which should happen in November um pocketbook has a dedicated or uh also a very purposeful uh user interface for reading um and doesn't do Android um so that's something to keep in mind but the software is really great for reading because you have an ex you have the best uh Library uh function here available with different options you can manage uh books with calibra easily with calibra tags easily you can use folders um you can scroll through list you have the uh buttons here um you have an inbuilt speaker for listening to audiobooks and text to speech um it's waterproof and as I said with the c 3 screen it will uh it it won't have the same problems with uh the sub pixels of the Kido plus screen um as on the on the input cutor two um so the input cutor 3 um I don't have it here and I didn't have it uh didn't try it yet and but I fully expect it to be as good in terms of color saturation and rendering quality as other cator three devices in that size segment um so if you want if you only want to read and don't need Android and don't need other apps um this one is a really good choice I think um and one thing to mention um is this one and the other one so the inkit color 3 has a new quad core CPU which is really great for handling and for using the device especially compared to the older uh version the inet one inet color one which was really slow so cool definitely a recommendation for the imput color 3 if you want an eror with uh K 3 and it's it's the cheapest col 3 device on the market I think right that's worth knowing yeah if you just want a color reader uh in InkPad color free is the shout there absolutely uh it's great because um pocketbook is not a device that I've tried not a company I've tried yet I'd love to um but um you're going to tell us a little bit more about the the InkPad X pro I believe next yes um so let me get this one again same as with the input color color three I don't have it here because it's still not released they announced it the init uh X pro which will actually run Android um so it will be a not taking device with android8 which is I think the biggest drawback of the device but it will have a um Google Play support um at least um from what they told me and what's great about the input X is that it's really lightweight so it does have an incard mobus display which you uh don't see that often anymore so that one is uh based on a a plastic uh surface so that the screen itself is uh is put on a plastic um I think frame uh instead of class so instead of a class layer it has a plastic layer and it's virtually unbreakable you can damage the screen um and the surface when not being careful um but it shouldn't break when dropping the device for example so it's lightweight and um should be unbreakable essentially um yeah so like I said Android 8 not the greatest thing um and let's see how it really uh how how it translates to real world use um but let's wait and see it should be released this Autumn so what's the new newer device called sorry InkPad X pro in yeah InkPad X pro so the main difference is that they added a wcom screen um so wcom touch screen and Android yeah uh other than that it's essentially the same device as the Inked X so we whack on pen or W touch oh right excent fabulous yeah this really exciting times for InkPad and where would we put the InkPad X pro then do you think productivity or um sorry where would you put it in this this categories um yeah definitely a note taker so um I with uh let's let's say um I suspect it will have it will have no taking capabilities but uh it's not clear yet um how good they are so obviously other devices and other manufacturers had a lot of time to perfect especially books remarkable and so own to perfect the software we don't have any idea how pocketbook um has it implemented but I would still uh place it in the not taking category because it's so lightweight so you can notice the difference and it's so great to hold in the hand and write on it with uh a pen yeah that that reminds me of the the Sony DPT or yeah exactly so screen yeah cool right let's move on then um the next one is the supernote and um this supernote a5x next uh so really fast wake up as well really you know just got an update ready I only check them my my my apologies um I wonder what's next in the just looks like a highlight um an adjust and an optimize and a fix uh update oh no added lots and lots and lots of things to add there as well um so I will update later though because just want to have a quick talk through this just now what what is it it's so well thought out the operating system and the notes features the notes system is just so well fought through and they've added things that have been requested and discussed with their user base and all of these little tools on the side here are things that gone through a lot of thinking before they've arrived here on the device things like you know they're still the only ones to have this background um text recognition which is just absolutely superb and it really is a good device for um for writing for that reason cons there's no front light and um there's limited function um so You' you you've got some options for instance you can put email on here but I just don't think that you would ever use this for an emailer the calendar is very good and you could kind of devote yourself to using this as your main calendar it could be a really great organizer it is just you need to decide before buying this if it's going to fit with your workflow such in such a way that you're going to absolutely love using it because it's it's absolutely great I didn't mention the great accessories um and I put it in the con actually although for me it's a big Pro but the screen feel doesn't doesn't it doesn't suit everyone okay so that it has a very idiosyncratic screen feel if you like because actually indents if you're the type of person that when you when you write with a ballpoint pen you have to get at least two or three sheets of paper uh you know underneath the sheet you're writing on because you don't like the feeling of writing and touching onto the hard uh paper you'll like this because it's got a soft kind of indenting feel to it um and it is yeah I just think it's fabulous and it's stuff like this that's like you know all right our pens don't have erasers but you know what we're just going to invent a little gesture that just means you can just just put stick two fingers on and swipe across and it's gone you know there's just all these little things um just add together to make a really good uh device to where to put this one um it's I think it's in not takers and it is in yeah um and it's in I'm going to put in organizers as well are you happy for that in there then it it certainly is because you can do things on the PDFs in just the same way and you have the to use a calendar as well I'm actually going to put it over here in writer as well because although it still has that kind of same thing that it doesn't have uh it does have a word processor but it's not like fully featured you can't change fonts I don't think in it and you know it's it's just kind of like a rich test texture building it's got lots of features for writers for editing and things that if you really got into it you would really know it and love it and I think that's uh that that's a big uh plus point for that but I think that's all it's definitely not a reader um although it's got more you know um more file types it can support even than remarkable it is not the best for reading and although it's got Kindle it's a very outdated version of the Kindle app now which just you know it's it's not really the thing for for reading um anything to add for superet um no the writing field I I I thought was a marketing gimmick when first reading about it on the website but it actually really feels different than anything else on the market um in my opinion so um I like it a lot um when I first tried it and I still like it and um yeah I think that's just something to be aware of um and the great thing about it uh with the pen option you have I think that one doesn't have uh a we because of the tianium N yeah it doesn't work that's right it's got a uh yeah it's ceramic nip actually um and it doesn't wear out absolutely uh you you will damage it though if you drop it on the nib incidentally and that will make mean you have to buy a new little but you can buy a new refill and it will screw in um to the the pen as well this is the heart of metal pen too they're they're um the but even the um the basic pen that comes with the you know as standard with the device you can opt to have whatever pen you want from them as uh in your device but this is the more expensive one um even the basic pen has that same thing really nice pen still the pens are really really good I love how Chris Christina just lurks during work time good to see you as well uh and um there was one more thing I wanted to say that that now I've forgotten but I'm going to talk about the probably come back to me as I talk about the a6x 2 now again a device that we don't have yet but is rumored imminently it's rumored November it's not rumored it's been not promised but it's been scheduled by the actual company um although there's not been an official kind of big launch you know they're not not doing the glitzy stuff that some of the other companies are doing the ax2 is the smaller device it's about half this size it's a 7.8 in screen and although we do have an a6x in the family it's a the a6x we have is my wife's device that she uses for work um she and so therefore she has a lot of notes and I'd probably be happy to feature it in a video but I don't want to put it on a live stream just in case I show something which is sort of intimate business details of hers so it's not here now but the a6x is the big good thing about that is that you've got the same organization and writing power in your pocket so you've got the same excellent calendar with the memos um and you can link this to your go Google Calendar incidentally and it knows where your notes were and what you were doing there it's got the same little swipe down it's got the same screen feel got the same background text recognition you know it's just it's excellent um and the A6 X2 promises to be just as good but just a slightly updated package really what I would say as a con for that is I personally find writing on that smaller device size I find it a little bit too cramped for um for longer form writing so therefore if you were going for this as a writing device I would only go for the fulls size a5x um and we hope for an a4x at some point um that would be absolutely fabulous as well and there's an interesting thing about that too it doesn't just mean second generation it also means that it'll have dual operating systems so you'll be able to choose between Android operating system not full with all the Google Play Store most likely but also this is the the no this is the Android operating system the X ones and the older A5 is the Linux based operating system and the A6 X2 you're going to be going to be able to choose which one you want to use essentially um cool so where would I put that notaker and organizer probably as well the A6 would you agree yeah yeah basically the same as the FF yeah but not the I wouldn't say it's a writer particularly although that being said no yeah you're you're right um for for long long form writing yeah for longer form yeah for that that being said um yeah I think that somebody asked about a sort of palm-sized pocketbook type thing you know perhaps there's a place for that um it is a kind of you know it's a small M skin size which fine for scribbling down little things good for just chucking in a bag but not for um not for sitting and writing that novel that's been on your mind for many years okay you're on for big me now uh C it yes um yeah um just there was just one question about um showing the difference between Koo and and uh regular e in cargo screen with the with the brightness yes it's this one yeah so you can see both both uh frontlets are um are disabled and you can see there's a clear difference between the the brightness levels of the of the so the car screen is much brighter yeah there's plenty of people for instance one like common um for people with dyslexia uh that they they have they they don't like being print they don't have things printed on pure white paper and they actually get things printed on colors because it reduces the contrast and they can see the text better uh so actually lower contrast for reading isn't necessarily all bad although I'd say on the whole mo more people would probably prefer the wher background if it was just for text reading and it is definitely a limitation of the um cido the way the cido works is that um one more thing I was going to say about that particular comment I also thought that was an interesting one um is about seeing things in in the kind of Flesh isn't it you know I've seen a Kindle paper I know what a black and white earing screen looks like but actually how can people find you know people want to judge whether the color screen would suit them and they can't find all these devices in the shops and that's something that I think this is still just so kind of niched that the the best place you can find things is like People Like Us chatting about them on on YouTube you can't go into many shops and actually try these things out yeah so that's what I'd love to see change over the next sort of um few years for people really is being able to go in and try and play about with things um before they they they purchase because they're not cheap okay okay let's jump into big me that's the big me gy um so that's the very first device um with um an in gallery 3 screen what's special about in gallery 3 is that it's um ex real uh color ink so it uses ink particles um for color generation instead of a color filter on top of a black and white ink screen like C does um what's uh so that's great in principle but uh the main problem with the galy is that it does have a few uh drawbacks in everyday use so the first one and um most annoying one is that the refresh can be really slow so um you can see it that's that's great to see it on the live stream you you could see it took ages um to change the page it's not always as slow um but you can see it's uh it definitely is a device that's not uh optimized uh that well um so maybe it's just me not tapping the right section here but you can see um depending on the on the um mode on the display mode you have different display mode um it it can be slow to refresh um I will talk about this about the big me software with the other devices so we are talking about the big me um S6 color plus and the big me ink Noe um color as well this one's the this one's the galley this time and we're going to talk about looking you're looking at the gy which is the gallery free screen um this one is $700 I think I to be honest I'm not sure if it's still uh at that price point I bought it for I think 700 euros um and that's uh incredibly expensive for a device like this and but obviously I want to try the new technology um it sounded cool it is actually cool but it's not something I'd use or recommend as a daily driver so um there you have to compromise a lot uh with that device and um so if you're an eing Enthusiast and absolutely love eing and have multiple devices to try uh it's cool to to see but it's not an everyday used device in my opinion um so let's switch to the HD mode to quickly show you um the difference with the HD mode colors are more saturated uh colors are more saturated in general compared to an col screen and the display without the front is also a bit brighter than the C screen so those are the main advantages um soft software wise um it's not great and I will talk about it in a second with the other C with the other big me devices as well where would you put it in these use cases um difficult to put anyway right that's yeah be honest I wouldn't I wouldn't put it anywhere because simply because because I I can't recommend it in the in the lineup we have here I wouldn't recommend it for as a daily driver it's more like for enthusiast yeah exactly yeah exactly good interesting thanks so much um let's crack on with the other big Ms yeah so let's talk about the this one so I think that's the S6 uh color plus um basically the same software as the um as the big melli um but better optimized for the screen so the screen with is is a Colo 3 screen which works much better in everyday use as the uh gallery 3 screen um the main drawback about pigme um and the bigm UI is that it's um that it's not that well optimized for uh Western markets you can see Chinese uh here and there um translations aren't that great sometimes obviously that's also the case with books uh at at some points but books is still much better in terms of software you can see some simil similarities uh in terms of the user interface compared to books devices um but still optimization for note taking and reading and so on um they still have a long as say I would say a long way to go to be on the same level as books yeah um yeah what's great is it still runs Android so it's same same as books it still runs Android um you can install Android apps and use Android Android apps as well so that's great um what surprised me the most about the big me devices is that the color saturation uh is better uh in terms of or let's say the color rendition is better um because they don't seem to have optimized for saturation so if you have colors which are very similar you can see the difference on this screen and you won't see it on books uh screens um on both screens you will see uh the same color essentially for very similar colors sometimes and that's not the case here what's also great about this one is the the extreme I think it's called Extreme refresh mode um let's see if I can pull it up here um yeah they have this uh normal and extreme refresh mode and the extreme one is actually pretty pretty great um surprisingly good um and comparable to the book super refresh mode um without the book super refresh technology and there's actually less ghosting uh when when uh watching videos um so that surprised me the most when trying uh this one so for dynamic content Um this can actually be a pretty good choice um yeah cool excellent so where are we going to put it in our table this is the S6 plus is that right I always confusing yes uh s s color 6 plus I'd say we can essentially put it in the same categories as the uh T in yeah but just be aware that it does many things worse than the books device uh when compared directly uh some things are better like I mentioned uh but in terms of soft software you can see uh optimization um is still needed on the big me device yeah it just books are just further along in that Journey AR they uh and certainly of westernizing their their things okay amazing uh and now and you got one more big me is that right yes let's have you got full reviews of all these yet no uh still working on the reviews but I I will uh upcoming so they upcoming um and I should be able to release the reviews in the next couple of weeks um but still working on on them um essentially all the same pros and cons as the uh smaller one um you have the c 3 screen which is great uh the big the quality is also great color rendition is better as I said in my opinion as on the books devices it's not it's not a huge difference um just in direct comparison you can see differences um so um the books devices are still great in terms of color addition and saturation in my opinion the c c of three screens um but if you have both devices or with uh the other one um besides it's besides each other you can see the difference and uh the big me devices are better um what's not so great is um let's get this pen again here in the front um I really I really don't like it and um one of the things is um this pen is active and does have a battery it needs to be charged you have this uh this pins this PO pins here um to charge it um it works without any issue so that's fine but it's not the prettiest solution obviously um with the Huawei made pit paper you have Wess charging um for the pen and there's no need for Pins so um it you can do it better uh than this and um what I also don't like are the cameras here as well um I don't dislike the cameras as much as on the as on the uh books devices on the tab Ultra devices because they are um not protuding so you can put it flat on the desk without any wobbling so that's nice but in terms of data privacy especially having a front camera on an ink device is in my opinion pointless to be honest interesting yeah yeah because you who who who will Who will uh do a conference call on an ink tablet um I don't I don't think that's a real Ed case but yeah the only the only time I thought that it could happen is like may maybe I don't know you to charge your phone or something like that yeah yeah okay in in in emergencies but yeah but yeah in emergency you just pick up the telephone um so the big me ink note and is that the color plus light or the color plus which one's that um that's the ink B sorry ink not color plus yeah that's the latest one um so probably a note taker yes um I'd say the same the same as the one same as the SX as well yeah same as the smaller one the S6 color plus well it's not a pleasure reader though surely oh sorry yeah you're right yeah sorry my bad it's not a plor it's uh what I have to say for both of for all three devices Hardware wise and in terms of haptics all of them are very nice so build quality is really good um and I'd say even nicer compared to the tab Ultra devices um I I I'd say uh similar to the node air devices um this one um so the the uh the larger one um so that's a big plus and I think uh for pleasure reading you can use it uh similarly as the node air uh 3C um so just be aware it's a bit it's a bit larger and it is it's a bit heavier um but still you can use it yeah but I certainly wouldn't recommend it a Sketchbook like we yeah so I think just there in the notes really cool uh we have four more devices and there's some amazing comments we're going to try and get through those comments there's a really good discussion going on about um uh whe Best Buy should have uh some devices in yeah Best Buy SES remarkable but then you go in expecting to be able to try one out and you can't do that so thanks very much Vladimir uh thanks very much for your comment glad to see you here um and then there's also a really good conversation going on about the books Palmer and how we'd love to see it with a S SIM card and a small pen just like the Samsung Note absolutely it wouldn't that be great um that would be a you know Game Changer is is used too often but uh would probably make some differences in the way that things worked don't know was an alternative to game changer that's not so used often right and I'm just looking for there it's the coobo ellpa 2E um I really really like this device and you were pleasantly surprised I think by this device as well when you reviewed it w you and we' because like actually it is for what it is it's a really good device um it's a really good reader simple as that it is a really good reader I I really like how light it is you take out that case and it's just like hardly anything in your hand for something of this size you know it's got that kind of plastic and kind of durable feeli to it it's just a really good and it just when I used it it just made me want to read you know just it's it spent I was using it as my work planner so it does work for that it does do the job of a of an you know notebook um and you could use it for just scribbling down your thoughts and things like that you can use it for writing things you can use it and annotate on top of PDFs I think that's must have been what I was doing with it must be in my book somewhere H yeah and and it worked it did all the things didn't do only those as well as other things but it did do reading as well as other things and that's really worth mentioning I really like the design of the case um it's just you know it's really really good in terms of that it feels good in the hand felt good enjoyed pulling out the bag I got a good feeling from the device apart from the lack of flow in the writing and it has a terrible stylus you know it just feels like going back a few generations of stylus really using this thing um and I guess it's because I'm just so used to The Wack on MMR devices but it just if your primary use is going to be using the stylus it's it's a no the only people I really fully recommend this to is people who already have a Cobo of some description and they have a library uh there and they want to add to that they want to write be able to write on it occasionally but if you're thinking to yourself I want this because I can write on it then I just just can't fully recommend it really um but it's really nice it is really really good as a reader it probably does spam that kind of Gap just like the Kindles scribe does um as a pleasure reader but capable of just that a little bit more PDF handling is probably a little bit better than the Scribe is that correct n wouldn't would wouldn't go so far maybe maybe a bit but it's not it's not great on coobo either no so it is a pleasure reader but it's a um it's a good one and it's a it's a good size and it can it can add that little bit of functionality to it but I think that's probably as far as you're going to go with it uh really any other thoughts on that um let me just add front light is great on the cobal Liu too um that has an exceptionally uh good front light for a 10.3 in device um so you don't see that very often and um and I agree it's a shame that the Laten pen latency is a bit higher uh on the higher side um because the not taking features are actually pretty good so then software wise uh they have taking features yeah yeah yeah cool uh I think all we need to say about that and then you've got a Cobo as well I think is that Libra there yeah that's the Libra too and that's actually one of my favorite uh dedicated ear rers um because it has such an incredible front light same aspa to it has a very uniform front light um I think i' I'd even say it's the best in that size segment um in terms of uh evenness of light distribution you can't really see um any any gradient here uh with the naked eye and contrast levels are also exceptionally uh great so only for that um it would get a recom recommendation for me uh for me um but um the so what what's also great about it is the asymmetrical design you have the um you have The Paton buttons here they are not as great as on the kind loasis um pressure levels are uh not even uh on the button so uh that's not as great but still it's a good device it feels a bit cheap especially compared to the kloes so build quality is good but it's not uh it doesn't feel as high quality as the aluminum frame um on the kindes but if you're looking for uh the best contrast levels in that size segment the Kindle the Cobo Liber tool is still a good choice even though it's uh at this point um if I'm not mistaken it's to years old um so take a closer look if you're looking for dedicated e- reader with great cont contast levels and great frontlet excellent and I guess we're going to put that we've got a huge list of pleasure readers really we've uh decided everything as a good pleasure reader that was the Libra 2 wasn't it yes Libra 2 uh excellent um and uh yes right I'm going to talk about the uh my favorite device to talk about the smart paper uh lenovo's um entry into this segment um is the Lenovo smart paper it's been well documented I absolutely love your what on Earth happened to the Lenovo smart paper video k um and all of a sudden there it was and like what's it's it's actually here and it's got no Fanfare or anything um but you know it I I've talked a lot about it it's just massively let down by It software and it even had a um update recently and it's still bad uh it's you know there just a bit of a I don't know what they thought they were doing this update to be honest but um it's it's still bad it does have a nice solid build absolutely it is well put together L NOA made a nice piece of Hardware I kind of just think that this is the type of device that people should kind of um make some make some hacks for and just you know give give you a kind of skin that you can put on and make it actually usable uh I don't know I've talked about it so much that it even forgot um one of my um notepads uh one of my planners it actually it actually just deleted the thing the kind of finding the files was awful the pencil tool is good generally the the the tools that they've developed are actually quite good um it does have pretty low latency the pen screen feel is nice I personally find the pen a bit too thin for my sort of taste it feels it's the thickness of those horrible cheap scratchy Bros that we get and we give out to the kids at school because they're the cheapest um you know if they forgotten a pen or whatever the uh the file system and the library just I just don't get it in the slightest bit they and the thing they've added is like um they've made it easier to put things into the library uh now and you can import I think it's this one here uh you can import should be able to import a little bit more easily from the library because you used to have to go so you used to have to go into the storage like from the kind of storage app and then you had to put it into the library folder and the library folder was hidden um way back in the file system which is through the apps and you had to go to the file manager and then you had to go find your download or or wherever you put it and you have to put it in the right the right um thing and you always go back to this horrible recent mode as well but now they've done it so it can pull it from the library so now they've just added the fact that now when you're in the library you've got a little import button so you can go to the download folder and then pull it in that way so it's not automatically scanning the the um device like incidentally like the Cobo does really really well you know you put the Cobo is clever because you put it in the root you just drop it into the root of the the thing and it pulls it straight into the right file it should be it just automatically detects it uh this doesn't even sort of automatically scan the download folder it doesn't automatically scan the documents for things that the PDF reader can read um generally it's poor and the crowning Glory of things being bad on this device was really brought home in this in this update I can't even get my way around it um where is the how' you go home there we are uh so I noticed that when you rotate let me just write something I'll write the word rotate and then I'll rotate the device and we'll all see the PDF rotate but the word rotate not rotate and that I mean how can that be the case and they added scaling now so I can pinch to zoom but I can't pan anymore and notice what's happened to my note you've noticed nothing at all has happened to my note so the actual ink doesn't move with the PDF they have got it now such that hyperlinks work uh and when you pinch to zoom you can't pan at the same time you have to take your finger off and pan with one finger and you always have got the restore button so you can't zoom in and notes and make notes you can note at this scale but now you'll noce when I restore it that note is still at that scale so I don't know what they think they're they're doing with this really it's just um yeah let's um what so can I put it anywhere really in honesty I can't really put it anywhere on this can we put it anywhere K what do you think um maybe maybe a not taker yes yes yeah I mean they um but but it needs to be more reliable as a notaker because uh losing noes is a is an absolute no go doesn't happen um the um there there are some good features some a couple people asked about recommendations for um students and and yes incidentally you asked if the No Air free would be a good recommendation for students and yes it would be um but the they seem to kind of be aiming this at students maybe they think that's the one untapped kind of the ink Market at the minute um and but then then they've charged a huge amount for things like transcription and reading aloud even of of files and it's just ridiculous and they've got this reading alloud they've got a microphone in here but no no simple mono speaker as well so this it's just uh and it it's just needless how bad it is because if they were just to put Google Play on here then people could develop apps for it and Etc like yet here we are with a essentially unusable for anything other than scribbling down some notes and if you just were living in the notebook and you just treated it a little bit like a notebook then you'd be fine but why would you you wouldn't want to spend 400 quid on that when you could get a Kindle scribe for uh 250 quid that's actually better um yeah not many good things to say about it really so your the books page is out and it's ready to go go for it although is it no it's actually the Lea two um which which brings me to the first talking point about this one um because uh they so books released the page uh shortly after the Le to uh which isn't great um I'd say for people uh who recently bought the uh Leaf 2 um but um other than that it's basically the same device with with a different screen um so the books page uh got the in Carlo 1200 screen um and this one doesn't so it does have an in color screen uh with with uh great contrast levels um but the front Le isn't as even as on the col 400 screen of the books um page so um that's something to keep in mind um in terms of usability it's still a great device I think it's one of the best best um Android e e- readers on the market in that size not only in that size segment but uh in general it's very light um or it's light and it's very thin so that's what I actually wanted to say it's very thin and it feels very nice in the hand um it has physical page turn buttons um they are a bit close together but actually work pretty well um when you get used to it and you can obviously still install Android apps uh same as on the larger books devices um so that's something uh coming back to the to the question uh a bit earlier um I like to have the options on a device I like to have more options on a device so this is a great reading device um so the Le two and the books page is a are great reading devices um and you have options for uh for app uh installations and using different apps Kindle for example you can use the Kindle app uh for reading your uh Kindle eBooks but you can also um copy uh other eBooks on here and what's especially great for the smaller screen is also the great PDF function that comes from the from the larger uh devices as well um so you can um zoom in you have the columns mode uh which uh changes the uh different to the different portions of the screen automatically so you you you're keeping uh the zoomed in uh portion of the screen and that's especially great on a screen of this size so if you want to read PDF files uh in a more pocketable way um the books page and the books Le Tool uh great options cool um so yes the page is just the more up toate version it also has the book super refresh um I imagine that means the battery life wouldn't be so great there is a question about what's the very best battery on the market at the minute is probably one of the Kindles or the remarkable am I right in saying that um yeah I would I would agree yeah yeah uh so the the Kindle scrip this the Kindle scrip is um is especially great um like you said pick you pick it up after a few weeks and you can still just flip open the cover and it turns on without even need needing to touch the B button um so that's great and and it almost loses no charge the last one and there's another question is is the page big enough for your screen your jeans pocket um it's small enough for your jeans pocket would say yeah maybe maybe your back pocket you going to try that one out for us now my buddy I I'd say it's a bit too wide bit too wide this one cly is and this is the choice um if you want the if you want something in in your pocket this is Thea um it is exactly like an ordinary phone size if I've got the well it's a large phone size so this is the uh Samsung Note 20 I believe so it's kind of you know just as wide as that little bit taller than that excellent screen on there excellent um screen refresh qualities it's just a really nice light like kind of Joyful reader I would say it is you know it's a really nice one if you just want something that you can just pull out get straight back into that um straight back into that book that you were reading straight back into that novel if you are wanting something that you know around the house you can just check your um check your Reddit or check your uh social media check your threads or your YouTube analytics or whatever like this it's a really nice way of doing that you've still got the excellent books uh keyboard and so you can use voice typing and things that on it as well uh but it is just it's just not quite a replacement for your phone and you've been talking about it quite a lot um you guys in the audience which has been nice to see nice to read um as we've been going along and it just yeah come on if if it just had a um if it just had a SIM card tray that worked in in the west as well uh and also the other thing I'd like that a phone would have would be to have the fingerprint read where your Thum is um that would just be really nice because I don't know put putting a pin in every time phone boots up uh is a little bit of a nuisance um now and especially when you're on a live stream and you got to take it off screen to put the pin back in you know that kind of thing uh is just a little bit of a nuisance so somebody is this a live stream yes so I try not to show my pinof so this is the um this is the books Palmer and it is really good it's a a tiny light Joy joyful reader that's easily pocket pocketable um but it can't replace your phone and it isn't truly mobile it's only really for when you're connected to the uh internet Wi-Fi place and I'm probably going to it can certainly go in pleasure reader column or room um in that col column is there anywhere else could it actually be your organizer maybe you know more than a lot of them actually I find you we we use our phones for organizing ourselves quite a lot and we're just used to having this kind of you know very po pocketable somebody described it as a PDA you know that term is like long on in the market now but very much actually because it's just there in your pocket um it can do that kind of that kind of role in your life I would say you're either going to buy this because you don't have a small e-reader um or you're looking for something that you can just read like you know on your commute that you just get just pull out and don't need to think about at all um it's just in one hand it's not going to get in your way it's just a very Palm siiz very natural way using a thing because you're used to using a phone like this um that that's a reason to buy it but it is not going to do a it's not going to change your your world in in a massive way unless you really commit to right I am going to stick with this I am going to bring it with me everywhere I am not going to pull out my OLED phone you know maybe even and I tried I tried even to replace my OLED phone with this and a small phone and I just felt like I I was too far into the the world of a foldable OLED screen that I just um I could not have that for uh for all the productivity things I do on on that you know maybe this device with a with a um with a SIM card would do it maybe this as a color in you never know the future's bright for iink though and this this is the state of iink right now I think we've done a reasonably good job um that is all the devices we're going to to look at is there anything K do you think we've got anything wrong looking at this little list is there not more productivity devices than that let me let me see um I have to I have to maximize my screen here one second so um let's see more uh more productivity devices um and if the if the tab alra is are organizer do you think the no a the no a3c is an organizer as well yeah could be in the same column um so um I'd say we try to keep the list as concise as possible you can obviously uh use the node air device and the T mini and so on as productivity devices as well um so someone asked before you can you can uh connect the Bluetooth keyboard to the devices and start writing with it um so essentially you can use uh any books device as a productivity dos as well um but the yeah but the tap Ultra devices are a different beast in my opinion especially um the tap Ultra uh Pro c pro um with with the even with the touch that yeah it's going be good we we'll fire into some questions you got a bit more time for questions yeah yeah that's the questions yeah just fire in yeah um I think we've cheap being monitor is an interesting one and somebody also asked earlier on for um how does uh the space desk work okay well I can I can show you in a in a few moments um because it's very very straightforward to do you just open up space desk um and you will see it asks you to connect and here it is it's now a screen on my computer you know this is my um you know my mind go through photos of my my family um um but uh I can put um I can find my mouse I can put any window I like onto this here it is here we are this is our live stream this is now a monitor um in out on my computer that I can operate with the same thing there as well so you know a cheap I think in a way um I'm actually looking at a uh I'm actually looking at an e in monitor And discussing that um just close this down now go back to that you see space desk is a very viable alternative to getting a dedicated monitor um I don't know why it's gone for the new note get the note back again uh so that's a really good way of doing that this is certainly not a cheap eink monitor but my question at the minute is is this is not much more expensive a tiny bit more expensive than some dedicated monitors so I'm wondering if a cheap eing monitor involves just actually using what already exists uh in the Android ecosystem and using space desk any thoughts about that um that question I'll find comment about it no agre space t because is a actually easy to use option uh for for expanding uh your screen size yeah obviously it's not a 20 24 inch uh display but still yeah um and may also as why not just sell monitors um and leave the software choice up to the user yeah I think the problem is that um books have the the difference you can see between some of these devices uh and and how far along books are you know shows you that it's not easy to code and make things look brilliant on the ink um so for instance the Lenovo I find lots of ghosting lots of uh things on here because they just haven't developed yet the algorithms to really clean up the ink as it refreshes again looking using the remarkable you can tell tell that um you know they they when you go back from something with the book super refresh and you use the remarkable and you f and you see the kind of ghosting that you get when you change page you know it's kind of like it's a bit Hit or Miss sometimes it's really really bad and sometimes it's really really good uh but it's just you know it isn't as easy as just display computer on iink and it will look great you know you have to really they have to work on the algorithms and I think that probably the the people who cracked the monitors would be the people who managed to have some kind of processing on the monitor to run the eink refresh rate uh and accept the feed and be able to sort of live optimize whatever's being fed to it to make it look good and that will mean actually having processes on there as well so I could see a maybe a um collaboration between somebody like space desk and books to get you know really good uh to to make it I don't know if you noticed that it wasn't it didn't L quite this good when it was on monitor mode it looked kind of you know the contrast went a little bit and everything like that and and that's because books haven't worked on that particular app and made sure it is working perfectly but it's certainly a possibility um is that okay any any other points about monitors any other questions interesting one um what else we got random question power button appears to be sat an angle I will just change the battery pack then um just when it's supposed to be like that still works that have you got a Kindle scribe to have a look at M yeah I'll put you I'm just checking um no mine actually doesn't so I'd say it's not um that's not normal um but if it's if it works all right I POS personally I wouldn't care too much about it um if it gets worse I'd uh contact the Amazon support um before the warranty runs out yeah it might even be worth contacting them and telling them that that you've noticed that so that if it goes wrong you've got a logged uh complaint or logged incident um within the warranty warranty time that might be a bit of advice but um but Amazon is usually pretty uh pretty easy to handle or Amazon actually handles warranty uh pretty well so uh usually there is no problem with uh getting warranty getting uh candles fixed uh under warranty so cool um can you compare the tab Min to Kindle paper white um I don't have the Kindle paper white here um I have it somewhere else and but I have the Kindle ois so um let's go with the Oasis uh with with which is very similar in terms of uh in terms of screen uh quality uh let's open up a book so you can see the K loasis is much brighter without turning up the front light um so it's essentially the same with the Kindle paper white I'd say the Kindle paper white is a bit brighter than the Kindle ois even um because it has the new incarda 1200 screen but the difference between the uh Oasis and the paper word uh isn't big um so I'd say it's essentially the same between uh those two devices um so just one thing uh to show you uh if you turn up the front light that difference is basically uh not an issue anymore so the the kis gets really bright um but still you can see if you turn up the frontlet in both um it's essentially the same um so contrast levels and and ridability is is essentially the same awes um a few questions about books devices that are going to sort of run through and try and answer just now I convinced somebody to get a book's ultra tab C and then it it's no longer for sale it's kind of run out of uh how many are with the pro come out wait for the Pro or go for the no f3c since the specs seem close for the screen yeah the specs are very close the question is just do you want something that can go into a laptop mode essentially or do you want something that is a notebook kind of style uh that is the the difference um you just ask yourself are you going to buy this and then a few weeks later wish that you could actually uh you know just prop it up into a laptop um format and type on it uh if that's the case then wait for the pro otherwise this is absolutely absolutely brilliant um and then how would you evaluate the not2 plus and the not 3C well luckily I've got a video where I've done just that um as a not taking device for the student take note can can you take notes and record your lecture at the same time yeah you do have the option in the notet taking app uh to which I'm yeah I'm in it now uh you do have the it's in insert now and you do have the recorder there and you can be writing at the same time as recording I think that's answering your your question there and then you pause it and exists as a little um you can continue it now so they changed this as well you finish and it exists a little recording that you can actually move around um recorder there and you can playback Etc as well uh so it is really good for that functionality I would definitely students I would definitely recommend these if they weren't um they weren't a bit expensive compared to some of the options can you in the split screen option you can't as far as I'm aware you cannot run split screen in this um in the notes app so let's see uh you can run split screen sorry you can run split screen for notes but you can't have a second instance of notes so the way I've always got around this is well a lot of my note taking actually happens within a little PDF anyway so I'm essentially running split screen of my PDF on one side and my note app on the other side and um that's how I'm generally using that they have changed it now such that you can actually have um two instances of the PDFs uh but you have to run that I believe through the PDF app and you've always been able to get a book book notebook so a a notepad which belongs to a book in this split screen mode so and yes you can I'm I'm pretty sure we can continue recording while we're not taking on the other one so if I X that and I go with the insert uh folder yeah and I'm recording whilst I'm note taking on here now it stopped so immediately I went across and started note taking on this side it did stop so that's in that yeah they ought to oh no it hasn't stopped I wonder if it's was in there so finish that let's just listen in if it did actually capture all that y it did yeah it recorded all that so it didn't change it obviously just didn't stops updating this app the way it looks but it was still listening in and it was still recording on there so hopefully that answers your question a good question um so yeah I think that that that and in in your lecture situation of course that could be uh your your your notebook your sorry your textbook on one side and your notepad on the other side and you've still got that recording throughout on your thing um on your thing there and again should you get the not f3c or wait for the tab c pro so I think it's really a case of what what is more appealing to you is it this sort of upright portrait um device or is it the laptop mode device and actually you know they further like solidified this um distinction really because now it has this standup mode like this actually it can be you know once you've made your little notes you can now stand it up next to your keyboard in this fashion and then you've got you know just just your reference as you're typing away maybe on your laptop or your desktop so this is really just just made for portrait style like a like a book prop it up like this drawing it it's really really good uh and then there's one more I think set of questions one more point about this uh this Chuck this in here Cobo feels outdated and over price when you look at the other options yeah certainly when you think how cheap the Kindle is and they're they're the two good readers like full-on readers at this size but uh when you think about this and you can use Kindle on this device uh you can use Kindle on it just just now and you know no issues there the Kindle apps perfectly fine works really really well yeah the Cobo they're not developing quick enough to keep up with them whether they whether they're really bothered about keeping up I don't know or whe they're just happy to keep their section of the market the way it is and anyone who's involved with coobo will buy another Cobo because all the books are on Cobo I don't know uh you'd have to ask them here another question Oscar thank you for pointing this out you're absolutely right I don't know if you can see this but Oscar has pointed out there is an Ever such a slight dark bar on this left hand side of the screen perhaps won even I visible on the screen there but you can just see it all the way along there must be a component underneath there because it is not going away in any app it's very very dark sorry very very slight um you can't see on here yeah you can just see it's ever such a slight darker uh layer there it's about half a centimeter thick okay and it's ever s slight dark um darker by there I wonder if that's for something to do the light so if I turn the light right off is it still there don't why it's not letting me turn the light right off there it is I can't see it now but what that's because you know can't tell the difference um in terms of contrast now and you probably won't be able to see it through the screen in any case but yeah isn't interesting I'll Zoom right in guys here we are the magic of magic okay I see it there can you see it yeah yeah it's it's not that that's the shadow you're getting there it's slightly thicker than that I'm just thinking what's going to be the best place to show it probably some kind of book yeah you can see it well in that MH it's about that thick I mean it is we we're scratching it you know it's about that thick we're really is this is in photography we call that pixel peeping you know notice um but actually it's there and uh you know perhaps it shouldn't be so interesting uh thanks for that comment Oscar there is ever such a slight dart bar um on on the left side okay cool um uh some other questions wow there's been loads of questions uh yeah you uh yeah this one um can you have a little look at this one uh pleaseed and I will go through another little read if there's other things we can maybe talk about um yeah the high sense the high sense phones um personally uh I haven't I haven't used one because they are actually hard to get in and here where I live um in the past you were able to import them from China um but those shops closed down so um some sellers on eBay uh sold them a couple of months ago and if I'm not mistaken on AliExpress as well um but it's really hard to get in my opinion but um those uh um experience so those people people who bought them had a good experience as far as I saw on Reddit and mobile read so people were um happy with with the purchase um because uh they had uh Sim functionality or they have SIM functionality and can use it as a fully fully fledged smartphone and with with uh telephone functions as well um so yeah um they are really interesting and I think it would be great if um if more uh manufacturers are came out with with uh with phones with Sim functionality um with e in Fones with Sim functionality and maybe the books Palmer will get it in the future as well maybe it's a licensing licensing issue with uh with uh getting the license uh for for network uh connectivity but to be honest I don't know cool good question yeah I think there's definitely a future in the earing phone I wonder about that Jewel you know do you really want to carry around the two screens would you just find yourself always ended up using the LCD screen anyway is an interesting one is it there's been a I have something something else here which I will make a video about um which is the TCL uh next paper phone all right um they have um something so let me get it out here this live unboxing like it yeah live unboxing but um to be honest I'm not sure what's in in this box other than the phone but let's get to let's get back to the phone yeah um so what's interesting about this one is uh it is using the next paper uh screen technology and the very first video on my channel was the next paper 10s from TCL which is a tablet with uh the uh screen technology um It's actually an LCD screen MH um so it's not an eing screen but um according to TCL um they using uh specific filters or um exclusive filters of for filtering blue light M and you can see it has a very heavy met coating um so you can see it uh it doesn't it reflects obviously it reflects uh light but it's it's not as the same as a regular smartphone yeah and it really so um I didn't like that the TCL next paper 10s so the tablet uh that they first released with that technology um I really didn't like that it didn't have an our LCD screen so it was introduced with our LCD technology yeah but uh they released it with an LCD screen that's how it yeah yeah yeah um but um what's funny is I have been using the TCL NEX paper 10s um more than any other tablet um because it's so great to look at the um the Met screen does make a difference and it's different than putting on a film on a regular phone uh like this one um so I think that's also a nice option um just for the screen um so I I want do the or maybe I can do it this uh when when you talk answering a different question uh the first setup and we can have a look a quick look at how uh colored content looks on the screen because it does look like uh printed paper actually um I've certainly got some more questions about the the no air fre so why don't you go through that on the corner there and see if you you have a quick look fabulous uh I love it unboxing live wasn't expecting that tonight but we've just we've seen it we've had it it's brilliant yeah this is I've I've done done some unboxings live I've unbox the Lenovo and the Scribe live there's just one issue with that is this is you you start talking and you uh suddenly realize you have to go through all the basic setups and you're like oh can't put my go account information into here anyway um so take take it off screen for anything that's private won't you mate um and um yeah somebody looking into iink for for uni I The Scribe refurbished is a great value option for students uh if you can afford it then the books is a better option for for studying really um but it is it is you know it's a tough ask to spend more than twice the amount well no twice the amount to get this actually from The Scribe I would say um that's why I do understand that uh is a good option there does it have similar something similar to Global handwriting in big me for third party apps it doesn't for anything although you you do get that option in um the for example there's a few that you get it in one note you can't just choose to put it on for for any app at all so when you're in I don't know if yeah here no there is somewhere you you can't turn it on or off but what happens you'll see is that there's a handwriting happening on top and then it is overlaying with the pen you know there's a overlay like this this is the same thing as the big me uh Global handwriting but it isn't Global because I can use the pen here to tap up here still and that's the the drawback of the big me one is the whole screen the pen input is just like that but what it's doing and they've improved it slightly because you can see now they've matched up the colors but they haven't matched up the thicknesses so if I make this really thick you'll notice that it's still making this fin line and then when it yeah when it does when when it renders the stroke then it is the thick line of whatever pen you had so it's not ideal but it' be great if we could just put that on anything because it is a work around which means that you can enjoy using these apps even if they're not perfect um so that's that and I've asked them to go ahead and do that if they can um can you use the devices while they charge yes you can most things absolutely you can you can see you might want to occasionally and sometimes yeah I the thing about the battery life and and these aren't as good anymore there's a couple of questions about that as well um now that it's got extra GPU in there that they they are more power hungry and sometimes you'll be thinking oh I'm using it next door to my laptop so I just plug it in with a USBC cable whilst you're working next door to a laptop it trickle charges but you know you go from 30 to 70% or something like that in the hour you're spent with a next to a laptop and you know that there you are it's that's what keeps you going for the next day or so um but yeah you mentioned yeah the Tab mini will get you through the day and that's not what we used to with an eing device that gets you through the week is what we're we're looking for does A3 have a GPU like the previous tab yes it does yes so the actual processors and the gpus and kind of internals apart from the extra Ram this device they're they're almost identical to the uh Ultra Pro Ultra c pro so this is just as fast really it's got the ultra C Pro's got extra Ram um I don't even think it has extra storage I think it's got the same but don't hold me to that one um they're both have the expandable storage anyway the TF card slot uh so really the the compromise isn't on performance that compromises on the keyboard case uh just ordered the air free fingers crossed for you that you love it as well what pen would you suggest I wanted to F this one because the it ships without the uh pen 2 Pro so this one the SL slightly cheaper device ships without the one with the Eraser but the Eraser is less necessary now because you have this smart scribe function where anything that I scribble over it says oh that's that's a delete you know so actually I actually prefer this it's a bit like what the supernote have done they've just come up with a solution um you know the other things like this smart scribe or doing lines like earlier on when I drew these lines right what I actually did was I got a ruler out and I put the ruler on the top of the ink like it's a piece of paper and I went and I did these lines um and I know that it has a thing so if I want to draw a straight line I go shape and then I can drag a straight line across you know probably would have been better than using a ro ruler um but on Smart scribe now you don't have to do that you can just hold down and it becomes a straight line so this is really quite nice and then once you've got an enclosed area you can then fill it for example that one doesn't like that one that's too wobbly that one worked like you can fill it with any color of your choice so these are just some of these new extra features that are really quite cool um and they they work so what pen do you suggest well I think just stick with this one to be honest it's I don't see I are they still 30 P the sorry are they still 70 P the pen Pro uh I just think you get what good you get a good pen in the box so I'd be happy with that one myself and this one yeah if you use it for reading only and you need it off Wi-Fi yes it will do better but it won't get as close to the like two we battery of the not2 Plus plus I feel like the color in just saps a little bit more cool um are you ready yeah yeah I'm ready um so it it doesn't it doesn't show on camera as well as um as here with me um but um what's what's great about this display is um it it has great um viewing Les um I'm not sure if you can see it on camera as well and that mat coating um and that mat screen uh really makes it look like it's it's printed uh on on the on the front class there's really uh almost no gap between uh the class and the content on the screen or at least it it doesn't look like it and it really does look like uh printed pap paper um which but it's more uh saturated than you would see on uh on incolor for example um what this also uh has is specific next paper uh display mode uh the color paper mode um I don't like it it's it's just it just turns down the saturation uh to cator levels essentially um so no point in that in my opinion but the ink paper mode uh let's see that takes a second usually um the ink paper so that's the C mode you can see it still has colors but it's much less saturated than before um but the other one um turns it into black and white mode and with that one you should be able to reduce um blue light emissions even more and there is even uh let's go to the settings there is even um an eye Comfort node for some reason I can't enable I think I can't enable it in this mode but you can uh you can do uh more orange light set you can do a more orange light setting same as on e- readers um with uh turning it more or uh in the night um and when reading in that so that can help as well you can obviously do that as well with a normal with a normal smartphone but you don't have this uh heavy met coating which is a unique selling point of the next paper devices so I think uh it's it's nice and I will have a closer look in in the near future um so stay tuned for that I think it's a cool op option or a cool alternative to Dedicated ink devices obviously you don't have the full in ink experience um but you have uh phone functionality which you don't have with the with the books Palmer for example so that can be a cool option thanks for sharing right I think just just a couple more then mate and we'll we'll sign off um yeah there's yeah this this one I thought was quite a good one yeah asked need a 13. uh 13 in ink device from a reptile brand available to EU read scientific articles we pretty much came to the conclusion your only option really is to go with the tab X or if you're happy to go with the one of the smaller ones and we could certainly put the no F3 in there because the um the uh the the Neo reader modes are really quite good um and you can scale the PDFs quite nicely and use article mode in there for to for instance have it you can have it landscape so you can read the top half of the page then it goes to the bottom half the page it goes to the next page top half next page bottom half and so on so I but I would say yeah the 13.3 inch devices the only one that we really sort of recommend at this point considering is the tab X although secondhand Lumi um and Lumi 2 would be also quite good and then there's one thing on this I get this as well and um when I use a PDF and you need to go in and change the page turn options um so if I go back to my library and one of my planners uh this is the kind of blank one for me to scribble on and show you guys what you need to do is you need to go into the settings from this menu into here and then I think it's going to be in more settings uh Touch settings and you need to change it to mode six basically okay mode six means that the single press is only happening at the top here by default it's on mode one where in mode one um to get to any to P page turn you touch anywhere on the right hand side anywhere on the left hand side it will turn forward forwards or back if you're using a PDF for lots of handwriting you want to have it on mode six because then essentially all the area where your Palm's going to be is not going to do anything but you've still got the option to touch forward and backward at the very top so I hope that answers your question and um and and then you won't have any issues be brilliant after that okay um think that's that uh I think yes eala wanted to see the um TCL with the backlight off sorry on without backl on but you wouldn't to see anything without the backlight because it's it's a transmissive LCD but you could have it right down I suppose so would I be right in that yeah no um you're right it's transmissive so essentially backl off means uh the screen is f cool guys and girls it's been two hours that that is the current state of iink thank you so much for being here with us thanks Ked um well done mate I guess if if we want to spend another hour we could say well what's next we we could definitely yeah yeah and I hope that you know you'll see I hope we'll see more coming into this box here personally I'm excited for this box digital Sketchbook or maybe even writers you can see we've got lots of good note takers we've got lots of good readers for Pleasures some good organizers more a few more productivity devices might really do well because I in this latest thing that books and everyone have done with the with the in is is pretty amazing it's pretty remarkable frankly um it's a new thing still and uh you know you know it's a it's a new world of uh of productivity on the Inc and enjoying these screens which are absolutely brilliant pieces of Technology okay so thanks thanks once again thanks as well
