what's going on internet it is your boy eric bandholz back again with another awesome episode from beardbrand and today i'm going to teach you how to trim your beard with some trimmers now the first thing I want to tell you when it comes to using a beard trimmer on your beard is it's going to give you a short beard so if you want to keep a little bit longer beard or you want to have a little bit linked to your beard then my recommendation is always to go with scissors and I've done a couple of videos on scissors that I can link to you and you can see how I trim that process before a shorter beard trimmers work great I start off by using an 8 guard with my packages and the 8 guard is approximately an inch in length and what I'm doing is just going around and getting the whole beard shortened down to a general long link that's actually the longest guard that I have with the clip and that kind of gives me the framework where I can even go shorter if I need be the big thing for me in the style I'm going for is I want to keep my big mustache and kind of go towards the beard stache look so a beard stache is a big mustache in a shorter beard and for me I want to make sure that I avoid any of the mustache hairs as I'm trimming so you'll see that I kind of pull the mustache up as I work around it and once I work through with the aid guard I'm going to gradually step down to shorter and shorter guards so the next guard that I grab is the six guards I'm going down by twos and the six guards just a little bit shorter and where I'm focusing on is underneath the neck and the cheeks and not so much on the chin but just kind of clean up the the longer hairs that the the bigger guard wasn't able to get you'll see I've also gone in and started to trim up my neckline and by doing that it helps me get a good gauge of what kind of beard hair I'm going to be leaving because I let my neck go completely natural before so it's gotten a lot lower than I wanted to keep it and with my new look I want to go with a little more high in tight look so when trimming your beard I think it's important to have a faded look into your side burn so what that means is you'll want the hair at the top of your ears to be a little bit shorter than toward the bottom of your jawline and then ultimately toward your chin line so that faded look is going to give you real close sharp look where you're not going to get as puffy cheeks as a lot of guys are concerned about so my final fade point is going to be a number four guard and with a number four guard I'm going to blend that up into my hair because my hair is still actually a little bit long now and I didn't want to go too short before I go and get a haircut you'll see with the technique that I'm not digging into my skin I'm not trying to get as low as possible I'm leaving a little bit of margin of error and that allows me to come in with a pair of scissors and clean up anything that I need to clean up to even up keep in mind that my beard when I trim this he was styled it was I blow dried it and it's a little bit straighter than where it lays naturally so when I do this tomorrow I want to have maybe a little bit curlier hair and I may have a few hairs shooting out there so my expectation is after I shower tomorrow that I may have to do a little bit more fine-tuning a little bit more grooming a little bit more of using the scissors to kind of get that complete look now I'm wrapping up probably like 95% look and this is how I finished it but what I did after recording this as I cleaned up my neck a little bit more so I came in with a razor and I did my cheek line and I did my neck just to make sure that it's a completely shaved down there and it's looking real nice and sharp and I'm pretty pleased with this this is a look that I've wanted to have for a while and I think I'm going to rock for a little bit hope you guys enjoyed the video as always thanks for watching cheers and beard on
