Epic 5 Day OBS Build - GAS MONKEY GARAGE

[Music] [Music] and there is on cue hey what's going on tony is still enroute but everybody else is here well you wanna tell us what's going on okay so you need a door up yeah get out of the way OBS coming through surprise we get a new shop truck and a bunch of parts to build a hot rod look at this freshness 91 one owner thirty some odd thousand original miles one repaint because you know all the crap sucked in the 90s with all that was clear coat peeling yeah I've been collecting some parts and we still got some big ones to find we need to find a motor it's most biggest way but this is gonna be our build for the week truck or all these parts in do some Milagro here's the deal I just been talking to everybody out there on the old interwebs we get a little bit of stuff every once in a while I'm feel saying oh they got little minions that come in at night and finish these cars and you know they get help and all this and we know that's false so we're gonna work on the old social interwebs here we got regular cameras gonna put it down and document it and your mission so did you accept it because you guys are all truck guys and everybody loves these things here and you know these like the back of your hand it's 817 818 let's call it 820 I want this truck completely down to the frame all the way back up the way we build them heavy horsepower motor big wheels big brakes big suspension static ride my beer time on Friday Friday oh we're gonna paint it we're gonna paint it Wow look color we paint it I think we can go back with this blue because we are building a no BS let's kind of keep it kind of slick but you know kind of the grownup version of what they used to build with these things a little bit better a little bit faster a little bit cooler slightly throwback but with a lot more modern touch we always do yeah yes I hope you do here's the kicker I don't know if you notice but a few guys are not here right now because they've taken some vacation time so once Tony gets here it's five guys five days done why not we better get started did a lot of other things what do you say out their social inner webs can they do it five guys five days down the frame all the way back up running driving perfect big wheels big brakes big motor you're wasting our time what and you're wasting our time hey I want to go from small block a big block hahaha so there you go back yeah I got the rear end dropped off everything looks good to have it knocked out okay well Motors fixin to come out so what did you found going in Texas speed and performance has a motor in stock the problem is they can't get it out here for a couple days because they are short-handed so if we want it we got to go pick it up what is it it's a Texas speed and performance lsbase 454 whoo that's what I said I wanted to jump from small to big all right how many horse it's around 600 600 horsepower is it Dino - ready top to bottom all set up they had it for someone and they backed out so it's just been sitting there how far is that like 200 miles they're in Georgetown so it's about a two and a half inch to three hour drive depend on traffic we beat the traffic we get back out of Austin before the traffic all right grab your [ __ ] let's go road trip you couldn't talk him into delivering it what's wrong with you boom so there you go with a little trickery of camera we're automatically here actually it took two hours 15 minutes very good time by the way here we are Texas speed and performance these guys better be ready to rock for us dude because we need to be back in three hours more or less age before beauty what's up man what's going on Richard how you doing well you're saving my ass if you got this thing ready to rock you'll be saving me but now that I'm here holy cow got an operation yeah but let me take your fur to around well check it out we pretty much do it all here in-house so we grind our own cams here and house all the cylinder heads are done here at house the castings are all poured in the US over here they take care all the blocks from the boring it out honing all that stuff's done over here we do all our receive on one of these two centroid machines here and that's what we're getting one of your recently moved yeah so basically you know you start with a factory block factory sleeves we cut them out and then you know we put in our hardened sleeves here interlocking it gives a ton of strength and rigidity to the side and I mean we got people making 1,600 horsepower with these blocks with a four bull block you know with this half-inch head stuck they don't lift the heads or anything so making a big power going fast that's perfect man I got to tell you I didn't realize you guys are turning up this much product I knew you were big but through here they're getting all the the heads done all the machine work here super cool we can check out the engine builder Maria yup so this is where after everything is all cleaned up in machine they bring it in here and and finish up the blocks and everything so clean and quiet room yep exactly so Rodney Pope here is the lead engine bit rowdy he would have you better put your engine together and you're basically looking at something like this you know a Reese leave LS block here coming together so very similar that it's pretty cool you guys are jamming you guys are killing it all right where's this motor of ours right through here there we go what yeah we we got a one of the local guys here does some awesome artwork with spray paint so we figured we'd get it done as quick as we could and do a nice paint job on it for you so you got that done in two hours yeah we got it done in two hours man so well we we hustled for you kick ass man so I got 675 hours ls3 sleeved yeah it's a reef leave for 54 so it's already locked up man yeah well let me get the screwdriver right here we'll pop it open man I gotta let you check it out yeah unscrew it I'll get the front look at you guys but you got something that just had some spray paint inside to go to work yeah yeah that's what they do you know how them come on down and finish it up for you that's gonna fit just fine yeah we figured while you were driving down we can get you something a little more a little custom here I love custom but now I'm gonna have to make like smoking the bandit and head back cuz I got my load of Coors and I'm ready to go well this thing on yeah let's get this back wrapped up and get in they got backed up to the right door even kick ass guys hey Thank You Man we're gonna be putting this thing in by evening it'll be in by morning it'll be on wheels what you doing man that thing ain't going nowhere do you really think that's gonna blow out [Music] all right so we got all the rear end of the truck torn apart and they're working on the front I'm going ahead and open up the right tech stuff there's a new kit for them new kit for me and just want to see how it lays out on the chassis see what I've got to take off the chassis before it can go on get the chance to clean it up painted and ready for it so I'm going through it make sure it's all here getting the instructions and get the back of this chassis knocked out [Music] [Music] [Music] not even 5 o'clock that's what we just said there's still six hours of work Oh what I'm stuck when I was girlfriend decided to count there real quick and paint some stuff on it he's pretty cool she's like there's graffiti stuff she did a heck of a job so get this thing off and get it inside I got a forklift right here so hold on 675 horsepower from Texas speed performance hi cool so uh boom how're we doing here well you're what what are we nine hours in yeah about that I think I'm a killer I mean Kingdom the Tony are already sand in the cab of the truck obviously we forgot the bottom side of this completely coated we're waiting to dry to flip it over to do that tonight obviously because we want to get the motor down in the morning first thing okay but we're getting ready to haul off a bunch of the scrap we're not gonna use but all in all I don't think you could ask for more in nine hours so we're not stopping for tonight are we no not stopping you know I said I gotta wait till it dries yeah here part of it well should be be assembling stuff yes yes all right that is done done done frontrunners on it from Rebecca billet and it's big guy node brand it is ready yeah as soon as we haul off this junk clear this area again we'll get the new parts in and start building I would say that's all junk too yeah yeah we might need the drag link but they're gonna keep little pieces yeah that's it I thought we were gonna have to weld a couple of things no it's a full bolt on there will be a cut for a notch but we'll cut we'll do the little touch-up on the cutting edge and no big deal it's more important that we get it painted and dried in time yeah flip it and rip it what's left tonight we're gonna quit for another five or ten hours right right so what we've got a ton of parts we still got to make sure they're all correct yeah we got to have everything ready tomorrow is it a symbol once this frame is dry tonight tomorrow is blowing go motor trans suspension they'll have the cab in for paint tomorrow as soon as the cab is done probably Wednesday mornings going back on rewired in steering column is go-go-go we have to get certain points every night to make this work but you know what I always say get ahead open the boxes assemble everything because we can't make it up on the end yeah no make it up now what you suggested death yeah I'm just saying ain't telling I will tell you this much I've been on the car I did all the driving all the radio working and handle some business on the phone and it's beer time Monday but what you have to listen to his radio working why didn't you run to bring us some ice cream [Music] let's go home tired you guys ready to call it yeah yeah yeah it's one hell OBS build we left sometime around 8:30 9 o'clock last night I'm not sure go in and see what the guys got done and see where we're at is what we got to do today it's gonna be killer only three days left after this look who's here it's nice not you to show up I'm only like 45 minutes late well you are the boss yes yeah yeah yeah so tell me where we're at what happened today what happened yesterday is what I want to know I think we had a great day yesterday for tearing a complete truck apart and geez dude I mean I've already got the frame done got notches in we're putting the Ridetech in so notches are cut bolted I'm finished bolting them up right now we're gonna have the rerun back any minute now from getting the gears put in it and then we'll be able to wrap up rear suspension and I'll move to the front yeah then we're going brake lines in under the motor motor trans together dropped in while Jeremy is doing front suspension over here what else Chad driveshaft obviously we can't get made until we have the truck sitting down so we're gonna continue the chassis till we have a rolling chassis tonight so you can be roller tonight with motor trans in yes and rear Ian and brake and fuel lines start and hopefully if you'll tank in as well bring on everything yeah brakes are completely assembled ready to go preassembled to go on the vehicle stop in power they're massive little shops really stepped up with the parts you need to be able to adapt the will woods to your obs which is a big thing because Wilwood doesn't make a direct kit they rely on little shops oh yeah Chad was able to get all the parts from them and get them here this is rad that's some serious stopping power well we got 678-619-5129 yeah everything billet grilles to roll pans Yanks in a torque converter so you gotta yank yeah we got all the well we'd show you the cams and all or not yeah the cam and all that stuff but it's in it the rear ends got all the yukon gears and axles in it air motors and this is the first-ever prototype of their new fuel system for the 88 what we're getting prototypes yep first one they ever built now they're actually making them for it the Budnick wheels and tires have you seen those yeah those things are killed that way up yeah look at that guys and gals yeah that is killer will for this truck have to the front 20 by tens in the rear with matching steering wheel we're going straight up early 2000s build aren't we yeah heck yeah you guys are on this side of the shop is gonna be training transmission engine rear end wheels tires suspension on the ground today let's go see what paints doing all right these guys are kicking ass over there how y'all doing over here we're good we're in a good position we got cab ready for paint today hood been cut in today fenders will be ready today bumper will be ready today grew the only thing we don't have ready right now is the bed and that'll be the last thing that we do well yeah the last few feet of the truck is pretty easy look at the inside of this look at the floorboards super clean oh yeah that is crazy clean man so we're killing it today what's the color look like man that is nice don't fall down secondary camera man that is freaking cool oh this is a cow hood all right that's gonna look good we're gonna black that out yeah killer all right so what y'all's go for the end of the day or the night as they say by night that'll be painted the hood will be painted offenders will be painted and the bumpers will be painted so you'll have have the truck ready by tonight because tomorrow morning they're planning on putting this back on the frame it'll be ready for it y'all keep killing it tell you what I'm gonna buy y'all some breakfast tacos can y'all split one because this is a very expensive project oh there you go day two of the OBS build and my guys are killing it they seem to be happy with where they're at but one thing I know I have to do in this a hundred and forty five seven times is a problem always presents itself something will go wrong that's just the wait building cars works keep hanging out keep watching us on all the social channels gas monkey and Richard and than that I know we want it faster than even that but it's the best we can do right now I want to get that motor and trans in before you move to front suspension so I'm not in your way okay because we've got everything here should take me about half an hour to get everything buttoned up and drop in if you want to help me drop it in yeah just let me know when you need it okay second day paints mix trucks in the booth and it's not even noon yet kicking ass [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so one of the things that we're doing since this is only a five day build I don't have time to build entire brake line setups for the truck so I'm going to utilize the parts that I can use off the old brake system because it was practically brand-new anyway cut off the ends obviously put the fittings that we need but speed everything's about speed get the brake lines in I've got to get the motor mounts down I got to get the motor transmission in this morning so fast that everything has to move at this speed get things done move on keep the project moving because if we don't we're not gonna make our five day deadline [Applause] look at you guys go I can see it right from my window so we did right at 12 hours flat yesterday 8:30 to 8:30 and today we got started closer to 8 so we're 8 to 2 we're 6 9 that makes 15 hours in and you had to drive all the way down there and pick up the motor and come back well yeah but y'all will work in that time hey thank God so 15 hours in how are we looking on our rear in is it gonna be ready yeah they said three o'clock yeah alright and if you go in there you're gonna be pleasantly pleasantly surprised to see blue paint all over the entire truck - the bed well I saw the inside of the hood this morning no no no he's painting he's paying a whole cab the fenders the hood and everything right now man maybe we'll be ready early maybe I can start hey you need to go walk away for you Jesus yeah this is what always happens now this is badass man yeah it's gonna look good I'm really impressed so far guys like it keep kicking ass and taking names all right so that's what I'm talking about 15 hours in all the way down to the frame already going up with the motor and training and suspension in it the cab doors and fenders are already been painted they're gonna dry overnight this thing will be sitting on all fours this evening my guys are badass all right should we put a roll pan on it or a bumper I don't know kind of like the rope and but I kind of like the bumper to hand that's heavy [Music] hmm keep a stock I think we should rock with the rope and they want a tease let's give him a tease all right good well we already molded one answer yeah good thing we got that one done hmm like that you like that Keenan decided to roll well roll the roll pan to anyone who rolled in the welder over here to build it you're good like it let's put this in the OBS scrap pile [Music] what you know what I thought way ahead of you I've already set you up a nice dolly shot right here got the Budnick wheels all laid out and when you can get some good clean shots of just how badass these things are I mean look at them shiny give a shot [Music] tank too cuz it was like right on it you got plenty everywhere yeah that's working yeah it starting to look sharp did you guys killed on that wheel selection that's a successful day - yeah let's go home boys I'm tired I still think we could get further you want to say no okay worthless tomorrow if we stay any longer I'm out here blow this popsicle stand gotta confess I left a little bit early yesterday and I don't know where they're exactly at I know where they wanted to be but we'll just have to see we're gonna go check in on the paint shop first cuz as everybody knows that is the hardest thing is getting that paint down getting it right and getting it show quality while at the same time only having a little bitty couple of hours to do it I know my guys are tired but I've been feeding them well they've had tacos and pizza and well tacos and pizza but they're gonna get a whole lot of beer on Friday what's up what do you mean morning y'all leave now come on now I was told everybody got here about 11:30 what's up with this this is our cowl hood are y'all acting so tired [Laughter] cuz this takes a lot of brain power yeah beds in there still getting done that's half the damn truck man yeah we got a tailgate outside of bed cow all the accessories small stuff the dirty pants the calves back over there the calves on what I got to go see progress because that was not happening when I left there wasn't even brakes and wheels Oh cow Bravo guys unbelievable day three here we are no I added it up on the way in good job guys okay even you Chad Wow I added it up on the way here based on y'all leaving around 11:00 11:30 last night you're 26 total hours in just over a day worth of effort what it was a it's not a workday but we're talking a whole day Oh just over 24 hours got it got a guy yeah so we're absolutely killing it guys that is amazing yeah it's coming together very nice and we hit a few snags yesterday those brakes yeah dude those ain't dude 16 you know back in the day when guys are building trucks like this they had that brakes look like that but they were the the fake little things you put between the look it's called a dis simulator disc simulators we using that no all right so I am absolutely floored I'm impressed are the door rubbers and everything already back in most of them exception of the cab rubber that I haven't gotten yet kick-ass so what's the plan today everything yeah I mean we still are we gonna drive it today you're trying to beat it about two days no I wish hey I'd like to say we'd win that but we still got brake lines fuel lines all the plumbing now that we have a cab down steering then we've got to get the wiring in order we've got a lot of work core support radiator yeah even though it looks a long way there we still got a lot left well I'll let you get to it so there you go guys and gals 26 hours in we got the cab back on fully charged I will start with core supports and go front to back wiring lines brake lines fuel lines you name it it's all going on I can't be more proud of my guys they still got a long ways to go as a matter of fact they're not even halfway through the amount of hours that I allotted for them so maybe I it was yeah I think they're great I love this color okay now that we've gotten that done we're focusing today on wrapping up the chassis I mean we've got I've still got a little bit left on the rear brakes we got rear brake cables fuel lines brake lines all the plumbing and starting to get the radiator in place core support headlights I mean any and everything even maybe even inner fender so we can start plumbing up the tanks and everything else you guys what do you focus on today over here bed tailgate wiper cow you have anything that you're missing or we have any problems that we need to know about well yeah because we're finding out that last night late that we don't have a lot of the fittings we need for the plumbing so Chad's gonna make a mad dash to summit try to get all that stuff these are the little things that are gonna start holding us up and here we are midway point roughly this afternoon so well that's that's the plan for the morning we I think get together back again at lunch and kind of reassess where we're at at that point and take it from there kind of half the days at this point all right break guys are awesome [Music] every help the wiring going spaghetti as my old buddy Charles used to say spaghetti lots of it so we need the psi kit the wiring oh that now I need the Dakota digital kits gauges perfect sweet hey Jason yes sir I got the gauges from Dakota digital here good because we are getting really close to needing it have you looked at me yet nope you like those okay hey just meet somebody for your truck we're wiring yeah I'm actually tech one Hawaiian right now but I need that uh psi harness and stuff to do engine he should out right don't you have it right here boom it is it's a new kind worried for fun wiring phone wires man there's a whole bag of wiring and there's a whole day's worth wire [Music] well we're to the point now that we're ready to put the bed down on the truck paint turned out great the roll pan on the back the only issue we have is with our new high-tech Ridetech suspension in the rear we have to eliminate the center brace in the bed which means literally cutting the entire brace off the floor without damaging the paint on top because of heat or slipping with a blade and cut through the floor so no real pressure you know we only have two days left okay you finally find the happy medium yeah and they're tight I think well we got cinder and all that stuff we've tested it we know what homes we got something to set our gauges that's such a cool setup first one yeah so you ready for the bed I think so if cut the crossmember out it's ready to go so should fit right off let's throw it on Jeremy if we lift will you take care of the neck oh Jesus is me the hard job that was it hard enough I don't know forget it was easier oh it sucks well then you want me under par do it our truck I'm just talking it up so it seems like go inside let's do this well it's lighter than the cab are you guys left to right we're good is is I didn't hear anything break I don't love this blue truck is it possible to have too many blue vehicles I can own this to know you guys won me over the OBS world if I can have this one gangsta good this thing it's badass those wheels those gigantic brakes yeah that's all that tire you can get in there this is a great victory this is a great victory for tonight but I'm ready to go get rid of that bumper Greg oh yeah how does the roll pan look wait till the lights are in it's more of the tailgate saw that's clean it's super clean what do you think Tony do was I'm pretty stoked on it we've got things going together we've had a couple of hiccups but nothing too bad and it looks like everything is sizing up the way we wanted it thanks everybody out there this the glass in this morning Chad's out getting Macy parts Jeremy's finishing wiring up the motor Kean is in there working on gauges Toni and I are working on brakes and front headlights and things like that so a lot of little things details details everything is happening right now it'll start really showing this afternoon because we need to have it physically fully put together truck - hood and taken a shower for five days man I don't smoke anyways but uh so where we at how are we doing well we got the first fire last night we need to get exhaust we've got a lot of little things underneath the truck we need to get up in the air but we're trying to button up the last little bit here yeah I mean we had a good day yesterday even though visibly it doesn't look much different there were so much happening and anyone who's ever built any car knows that this that second to last and last days or the most gets done but we've still got the second to last day was actually the second day wait what you know there's five days five days second-to-last day we're back into this second day hey his brain still works at least his he got some sleep come on snap out of it oh we run it's victory lap today so alright a lot to do so there you go everybody day five my guys are tired everybody's worn out but I've been feeding them plenty and one have you so everybody's eating good make sure you keep burnouts and you're standing here with the most cash maybe you own it I'm super proud of my guys I'd like to say that we're gonna have this thing running here in just a little bit so I'm gonna get off this and get off that and let them get on it whoa he might be gray Howie just this much of that energy dude gosh slip since 8:00 last night true the road chick is whoever buys this truck can race my 454 well we got a first fire this morning really early about 2:30 and we got about four hours sleep when we're back now so we're dragging a little bit starting out right now we're buttoning up the grill the front bumper the rest of the panels to the truck I think we're even I'm set the hood get the hood in place now that we know we have no fuel leaks we've no leaks to speak of yet knock on wood we can start putting the rest of the truck together then we're gonna get it up in the air we're gonna put the exhaust on we're also gonna get the e brake cable situated check through all the suspension one more time and then lastly bring the truck down test fire again make sure everything is good to go once we have an exhaust then back it off the lift get the seat in it and at that point we're pretty much ready to bleed the brakes and then drive this thing around the parking lot there's on the outside there they slide inside the frame [Music] so we're down to that last couple of seat in this thing or let Richard get out in the parking lot and do what he's wanted to do all week do some burnouts hi guys so what's the deal man I am really in need of a beer at 6:15 that's a cup that's four bolts and we got to gather AC thing in what are you talking about don't freak me out man you still have time it's Friday I'm usually like four beers in by now no that's wrong with you Chad their arrows plays in the wrong way I'm a pretty smart [ __ ] onna well I can't say that yet and fix anything yet okay it's plugged in there keep clear no whammies I can't believe you're right my game later whoa [Music] get you some of that [Music] [Music] unbelievable all the way down to the frame all the way back up running driving they do it everything is supposed to do hell even it [Music] yeah we're talking about a full bill guys and gals [Music] unbelievable best hotrod building team in the world I challenge anyone to be able to do this now we've done it a hundred sixty-five times but that's usually at about three and a half four weeks so if you watch the show you know that the thing is will it do a river we're fix the five [Music] I believe we have done the job whoa as I like to say get you some of that to the baddest [ __ ] car builders on the planet you guys literally killed it this is amazing and 75 right outs it will get the official minute count but 75 hours done thank you I'm very proud to be in your presence so there you go ready hell yeah so when building hot rods was cool when I was young you didn't have all these computers and all these problems so we've got a perfectly built truck here ready to rock and roll well we got a computer problem so that's why I brought in my favorite Millennials actually there's no Millennials that work on trucks here they just work the you're the Millennial yeah that got behind the camera your millennial
