this after effects tutorial is sponsored by actionvfx.com hey guys what's going on i am nikhil from dopemotions.com and in this after effects tutorial we will learn how to create this energy effects logo animation instead of after effects that too without using any plugins now this tutorial is going to be a very in-depth one and we will cover a lot of different techniques throughout the complete video so make sure you don't skip on anything so you learn every single technique that i'm going to share with you today with that said let's jump into after effects and get started [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right so here we are in after effects so let's start by creating a new composition called this render as our main comp 1920 by 1080 that is full hd 10 seconds long and 30 fps hit ok then the first thing that we have to do is create those shape for that light streak effect and to do that i'm going to call this shapes with i will leave it at 1920 height i will change that to 150 hit ok then i'm going to select the rectangle tool and make sure you have the fill on let's create a shape like that all right so now we have our shape and then we need to move the anchor point in the center well it's not necessary but let's do that so hold ctrl and double click on the pan behind tool that should fix it and now go into effects and preset and search for ram let's add a gradient ramp on this let's adjust the points i'm going to place one right here and place one right over here and let's change the color of this one to something like a nice blue color now the problem with the gradient ramp is if i move the shape the ramp points stays in the same position so we need to lock them so that it moves along with our shape and in order to do that i will be using a very simple expression on the start of ram and the end of ram so i'm going to hold alt and click on the start of ram stopwatch hit ctrl v to paste this small expression i have mentioned this expression in the description below and also paste this same expression on the end of ram so hold alt again click on the stopwatch hit ctrl v and paste it and now boom it disappeared the reason is the gradient ramp has shifted to a different position so now easily we can just place them in the position that we want i'm gonna place them something like that and now if i move the shape the ram moves along with that so the colors doesn't shift pretty awesome right and now we can adjust the position and it's a pretty random um thing to do so you can of course take your time and do it so i'm gonna simply select the layer hit ctrl d to duplicate it place one right here and just change the position and the size like that hit ctrl d again and let's actually place one right here and something like this let me adjust the size a little bit then i can hit ctrl d i'm going to place one right here and this time i'm going to change the color so let's make this something like a nice orange color pretty cool let's see like this one hit ctrl d i'm going to place one right here make this a bigger streak hit ctrl d again place one right over here let's change the size of this make this a bit more smaller like so and for the orange i think i will go with a much more intense orange and that is looking pretty good maybe i'll increase the length a bit all right so i think this is looking pretty cool and that is our shapes now let's go ahead and create one more new composition called this raise and let's set this back to 1080 hit okay drag and drop in the shapes composition right here hit f4 on the keyboard and turn on the 3d layer or make this layer 3d hit r and let's rotate the orientation so let's set this one to 90 and um let's adjust this like so and then rotate it at 180 degrees so we have the lines facing forward you know something like that let's place this in the position that we want then hit s to bring down the scale properties unlink this and let's increase the scale amount as per our requirement so let's set this one to actually 150 and let's bring that down to 80 that would look much more sharper and narrower hit ctrl d to duplicate it let's place this one right over here and you can play around with this it's a pretty random stuff and place one right here i can even move the position so i can hit p to bring down the position and let's move them forward or backward in the frame so just take your time and place it make it as random as possible and same thing i can do here i can duplicate this move this one right here maybe place this one right over here adjust the scale a little bit hit ctrl d bring one right over here and let's adjust this as well all right so i've adjusted my shapes and this is looking pretty nice now let's go back into our render composition drag and drop in the race comp just like that hit f4 so we can make it again 3d but also make sure to turn on the collapse transformation so it's adjustable then hit control y let's create a new solid called this pg for background keep it black hit okay then let's create a new camera gonna keep it at 35 millimeter preset hit ok right click and create a new null object this is going to be our cam controller so let's call this cam control a controller i can move the anchor point in the center and just align the null object in the center make it 3d and then pattern the camera to this null object all right so now we can animate our camera position so hit p and at the very start i'm going to set the z position of this to minus twenty thousand go to four seconds and let's set this back to z row but actually not zero but somewhere where everything or every shape gets out of the frame so move this one just like so all right then let's drag this just like that backward and now what we have to do is now is the fun stuff actually i'm going to duplicate this hit ctrl d hit p to bring down the position and let's drag this back like so and because the collapse transformation is on i can actually bring this closer to the camera so it looks something like that i can even create a duplicate so hit ctrl d i can rotate it if i want to so i can you know rotate it like so and maybe place it something closer to the camera so this kind of look so now if i drag my camera back you can see we get this really cool looking streaks and that is all i have to repeat again so let's hit ctrl d again to duplicate this hit p and let's pull this back you can hold shift at the same time to jump into higher increments or higher numbers quickly and i can actually move this again closer to my camera hit r and let's rotate it so let's go back a bit more so i can see the visuals more clearly i can position this accordingly like that then let's hit ctrl d again let's go back a few frames let's adjust the position and also rotate it something like this place this up and again move a bit closer to the camera i think and let's see um no i should move this a bit more back in the z-axis or something like that so it looks kind of like closer to the camera and now you can see we get this really cool look if i if i can hit ctrl shift edge so i can hide the controllers and you can get a proper visual of that pretty awesome right looking pretty cool let's go back somewhere around there all right select the raise again hit ctrl d hit p pull this back holding shift hit r and let's rotate it into a different position oh yeah by the way if i uh turn on the control layers ctrl shift h you can see it lags a bit but as soon as i hide them ctrl shift h it becomes much more smoother well something new you can see pretty cool let's go back let's duplicate this one more time hit ctrl d hit p let's drag that back rotate it into a different position or you can even move them like that because i think this area is a bit empty here so maybe i can add some copies here hit ctrl d move this one and again it's a pretty abstract effect you know you can play around with this you can create as complex movement as you want but i think it looks pretty damn cool and let's actually hit p again just make sure you take your time have fun with it you know make sure i hit p bring that back so now we have a pretty crazy look here let's hit ctrl d hit p pull that back and this is probably going to be the last copy i think i don't want to add too many streaks you know it would mess up the look to be honest hit ctrl d and let's adjust the final one here and i'm gonna hit s unlink this let's actually scale this make this really stretch that out and hit p and let's pull that back so the last one i want to be very stretched out so something like that see it looks pretty cool i think it's a bit too much stretched out so let's um actually hit s and scale that down i think that is it so that is looking pretty damn cool all right so the rays are ready now let's actually hit ctrl a hit u to close them all up and we have the animation now a couple of things you have to do so first of all right click and create a new adjustment layer call this raise go into effects and preset and search for an effect called cc radial fast blur i'm gonna leave it at default settings all i have to do is hit f4 and change the blending mode to add so this is gonna make them a bit more cooler i can even increase this if i want to actually to get a really interesting looks or something like that you know kind of a motion blurred look which looks quite interesting to be honest all right so that isn't good let's add some glow to this so create a new adjustment layer again call this glow go into effects and preset search for the default inbuilt glow and let's adjust a couple of settings here so first of all increase the glow radius to 40. and i'll bring down the glow intensity to 0.6 hit ctrl d and this is gonna be a wider glow so let's set this to 300 or something and that is looking quite nice maybe i can set this to one and one thing that you need to keep in mind is whenever you're working with glows make sure you always work in 16 bits so hold alt and click on this button so it's going to switch to 16 bits so you don't get any kind of color bendings and as you can see it looks pretty awesome right here it looks pretty sharp and the small dots are looking quite weird here so i'm going to add some depth to this so let's create first of all a new adjustment layer call this dof that is depth of field and let's add a camera lens blur effect all right but i don't want the camera lens blur on the complete frame so i can first of all set this to around eight let's select an ellipse tool and let's create a mask around this and hit f and fill this out so somewhere around 400 let's increase the intensity let's see what we get okay it's quite intense so not 16 probably let's go with 10 and i can work with the mass expansion let's increase that all right so that is looking pretty nice let's go back and let's see so we get this really nice depth of field but i think the mask expansion is a bit too much let's say this is a 50 or something or maybe something 20 i don't know just play around with some settings here yeah that is looking much better now with that out of the way let's focus on our shockwave reveal so let's create a new composition which is going to be a logo comp it can be anything you can use a text you can use a logo i'll be using a text i'm going to select the text tool type in action and for the font i'm using the outer sense i have mentioned the link in the description so in case if you want to use the same exact font and let's add some details to this font so first of all i'm gonna select layer right click go into layer styles and add a gradient overlay jump into gradient overlay and let's go into edit gradients let's make it look a bit more cooler so i'm gonna make oh make this white let's make this a bit grayish something like that and set this to kind of an off white color so this is actually looking pretty good let's select this again go into layer styles and add a bevel and emboss so we get a really nice look overall and i'm going to bring down actually the size to run to keep it very very minimal all right then select this hit ctrl d duplicated put this below hit s to bring down the scale properties unlink this and let's set this one to around 98 i believe 99.90 it looks good then let's jump into the gradient properties of this edit gradient and let's move this point right over here also make it a bit more darker and that's that now you can see we have a bit more depth into our text and it's and it's looking pretty good so our text is ready let's go back to our render comp and let's add our logo composition at somewhere around 4 seconds so when the streaks go out of the frame i want my shock wave and logo to appear so somewhere around there let's also go into assets and use the shock wave from action vfx now before i proceed further with this uh let me tell you about today's sponsor action vfx action vfx is one of the best websites to download stock footages for your visual effects they have a complete library of effects like smoke energy fire glass explosions debris particles water and even sound effects all these effects are used in movies like jumanji spiderman far from home stranger things and more and they currently have a special black friday sale going on up until 3rd of december where you can get all these amazing vfx elements from action vfx for a flat 50 percent off all annual subscription plans like individual and studio plants purchased during the sale will receive two weeks the amount of monthly elements for example if a plan gives you 30 a month you get 60. if you renew the annual plan next year you still get double the elements so it's the right time to get your amazing elements from action vfx to know more about this check out the first link in the description below all right so now getting back to the tutorial here we have our shock wave from action vfx and it's looking pretty good so camera zooms in and then we have our shockwave a bit more maybe something like that looks pretty good but now i want my text to animate or you know get reveal along with the shock waves so in order to achieve that i'm going to create a new composition called this mask or you can call it whatever that you want i'm going to double click to create a new ellipse tool create a new ellipse not a tool and then hold alt and double click on this link icon that is going to create a perfect circle and let's animate the circle so hit s to bring down the scale properties go to around 3 seconds create a keyframe on the scale go back and set this to zero so we have a very simple nice animation then select the layer go into effects and preset and search for roughen edge effect which is one of my favorite effect we can do number of things with this and let's increase the border to around 140 let's uh increase the edge sharpness to 7 and let's increase or bring down the scale actually to 40. so we get a really interesting look and then finally bring up the complexity to something like 10 looks good but if you see here at the edges it's not perfect so now to fix this i can go into effects and preset and search for cc composite and that should fix this just place this on the top of the ruffin edge effect and boom so now we have this really nice fractal animated and now let's use this as a matte for our text so i'm going to place this on the top of our text just like so and change the track matte of the logo composition to alpha mac and now oh make sure both the lines properly we have this really nice reveal which looks pretty damn cool i also want to animate the text so we can add a simple scale animation to the text so i can select this hit s and let's set this around 95 something create a keyframe go to around 10 10 seconds let's say set it to 1 1 10 so now we have a nice small scale animation with this looking pretty awesome now let's add some glow to the shock wave so going to fix and preset search for glow double click to apply that and let's increase the glow radius to 200 and also increase the glow intensity to 1.2 so we get some very very nice glows you can see before after a hell lot of difference and finally i will add some dust particle to this as well so i want the dust particles to appear after the shock wave so like this so i can hit t to bring down the opacity create a keyframe with the restart and set this to z row so now we have some dust particle animation as well and actually i don't want it to be so intense i can bring that down to around 25 percent very very minimal dust particles pretty awesome and finally i will add some noise to this in order to again to get rid of any kind of color bending so i can create a new adjustment layer oh make sure to place it on the top call this nice go into fx and preset and search for nice nut voice noise effect and let's add a noise of around or maybe two percent and that should fix the overall look pretty awesome and yeah that is how you can create this really cool energy logo animation instead of after effects and again without using any plugins now the best part about this is it's completely adjustable it's completely uh what you call that procedural you know you can go into shapes you can change the color you can change the shape and it's going to completely affect the look of the streaks so if i want i can actually make my main color as orange and you know if i go back we have some more orange into our scene so the possibilities are quite endless and you know you can create some really cool look using this technique you can even use different shapes you can use circle probably i don't know use whatever that you want so that is a wrap for today guys i hope you
