right so we're going to kick things off with a video showing testimonies around the country of what god has been doing it might have been uh near time over the past two years but god is still moving that's right god is still doing great things so let's just take a moment and watch this video awesome hello every nation family my name is sandile and i'm a campus missionary at uk zed and howard college the previous year has been really difficult with the pandemic and how to do church and discipleship on campus but god is so faithful and awesome in a way that we're able to do church online and do discipleship online we even carried on this year to integrate students with the community god is awesome and i'm expecting for more of him to awaken heart and stir up the passion hi my name is tatenda and as every nation universe the challenges that we have had this year is that we do not have access to campus we cannot have our connect on campus but god has been gracious and we are able to hold our panic standards and attack and this means that with access to different people people can come by and connect with us so this is just uh basically increase the range of people we can reach hi family my name is abraham and i'm from the university of pretoria's hadford campus covert has really made the last year as difficult for us as a campus ministry but god is an awesome god and has opened so many doors for us to really preach the gospel build relationships with students and really help them physically in the needs that they have at this time really excited for god what god has planned for the rest of this year and to see how this is going hi everyone i'm tamlin from every nation graham's town at rhodes university this year has been a challenging one for it for everyone especially with limited access preventing an easy transition to online engagements but we believe that god will be faithful in carrying out his mission for rhodes campus and for campuses across southern africa after all he is an awesome guard my name is eugene jimmy from ent and this is the campus ministry last year was quite challenging for us because we couldn't have physical meetings and face-to-face discipleship classes but nevertheless we serve an awesome girl and we still have hope that in the near future the open churches but as you know our ugandan culture we are a part of the club's meeting and fellowshipping together and through all this we've done online classes we've done online discipleship and this has helped us grow our connect groups thank you and god bless from enc we took namibia what has been hard for us the past year has been not meeting face to face especially not having our sunday worship service but god has been so awesome we've had new people being added to our campus ministry we hosted a first year a hangout as well attended we even had two victory weekends and we're trusting god to finish of the year with 50 connectors hello my name is so god has truly been faithful on our campus despite the fact that we have not been able to meet on the premises however we have been able to meet online every sunday not only that we have been able to actually come into campus to spread hope invite students to our services and even pray for students we have seen students who dedicate their lives and even join ian's events in their numbers this has encouraged our faith and motivated us to continue to spread hope on campus guys this is particular from you jason to campus um the past two years the past year and a half to two years has been tough on all of us but god has been awesome in the sense that we have managed to share the word and have been able to transition at least through students into a leadership position into leadership positions where they are able to lead connect and i just show you how awesome god is and we still continue to do church online thank you my name is jaku and i am from the centurion academy campus in highfault this year has been tough really tough and especially on students besides the obvious thing of online classes a lot of them have lost close family and friends but still we serve a god as good and who is faithful and we at centurion academy have seen through discipleship people give their hearts and their lives to jesus christ we have seen people being renewed and transformed by his word and by his love so regardless of your current circumstances don't be disheartened and don't be discouraged keep running with endurance the race said before you and go out and make disciples [Music] isaiah 6 21 the spirit of the lord is upon me because he's anointed me to bring good news to the poor he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are inbound to proclaim the year of the lord's favor and the day of vengeance for our god to comfort all those who mourn to grant those who mourn in zion a beautiful headdress instead of ashes the oil of gladness instead of mourning the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit they shall be called oaks of righteousness the planting of the lord that he may be glorified recorded that i want to give it to my mother-in-law to such a no i'm kidding i want to honor some people tonight i want us to honor some people tonight they are students and student leaders who have traveled far from other countries and in south africa we owe them a date of honor and a debt of gratitude the word of god says give honoraway honest to you so for those of you who have come from far from mozambique from namibia from botswana from swaziland from lusutu from zambia why don't you stand please stand and let's celebrate them where are they come on come on so fantastic to have mozambique in the house and just absolutely wonderful i also want to give honor to the people who've made this happen from neo and rasoona and kidian and anna and shamray and henry and i don't know who else the ex the team that made this happen and also the executive team of every nation campus ministries pastor carol and the rest could we just give a round of applause to them [Applause] when i was your age the age of many of you i remember standing around the fire i was in a bad place i was far from god we were smoking weed we were drinking and i had such a brokenness in my heart and i was in sin and i was far from god and one guy starts speaking and he says hey did you hear about cern sir yeah he got religion he got jesus and he came to us and he told us that we need to come join him come to church and they all laughed and everybody scoffed and you know made comments about him i'm standing there holding my beer and i'm thinking i want to be that guy i was so aware of where i was i was so aware of the holiness of god the awesomeness of god and yet also the the mercy of god the love of god and and that began it was near the end of mama trichia that began me coming back being reconciled to god and and i was reconciled to god through many things but including that testimony of that guy who i don't even know who it was who had stood up for jesus and he'd been an agent of reconciliation to me you never know the impact that you're having you never know the impact you're having and if you hear tomatin you far from god maybe you're not holding a beer right now maybe you're watching online and you are and i'm not saying you can't drink a beer that's not the point but the point is if you are far from god if you're far from god we serve an awesome god who is holy and righteous yet loving and merciful who made a way through jesus his son i have the absolute pleasure of being asked to speak on isaiah chapter 6 about reconciliation so let's go there isaiah 6 in the year that king uzziah died not the same person i saw the lord high and exalted seated on the throne and the train of his robe filled the temple above him were seraphim these are fiery creatures this is the only time they mentioned in the whole bible seraphim with two wings they covered their faces and two they covered their feet and with two they were flying and they were calling out to one another holy holy holy is the lord almighty the whole earth is full of his glory and at the sound of their voices the doorposts and the threshold shook and the temple was filled with smoke woe to me i cried i am ruined for i'm a man of unclean lips and i live amongst the people of unclean lips and my eyes have seen the king the lord almighty then one of the seraphim flew to me with a love cult in his hand which he had taken with tongs from the altar with it he touched my mouth and said see this has touched your lips your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for then i heard the voice of the lord saying whom shall i send and who will go for us and i said here i am send me my question to you tonight is what do you see who is on the throne and who will go what do you see what is capturing your vision is it the media or is it a vision of god who sits on the throne are you on the throne is it like 50 50 deal with god always god on the throne and to that question who will go will you be a man will it be a woman who puts up their hand in response to what the spirit of god says to you tonight and you will say here i am send me now isaiah is arguably the greatest prophet of the old testament could argue it he's quoted more in the new testament than anybody else except for the book of psalms he spoke about the one to come he spoke about jesus he spoke about his death and his crucifixion his resurrection he spoke about what was going to happen to israel in terms of the exile and their return is an incredible prophet and and he breaks forth in chapter one and he says israel return come out of your rebellion and come out of your religiousness he says god doesn't delight in the outward form and and it's not about you going to church on sunday it's not about you having a bible or fishing your car but it's about a inward transformation it's about you becoming a real disciple of jesus and he cries out to them stop your rebellion and stop your religion and and they don't in chapter two the same thing he says your sins are putting you down chapter three the same four chapter five chapter six chapter six things change up to then as i has been crying out to the people now he beholds god he sees god and he's forever he's forever changed from this point he lives with a revelation of the holy one of israel and he says it 25 times in the book of isaiah it's only mentioned six times in in any other books he sees the lord and he's changed forever now the context is that the southern kingdom remember the southern and northern kingdom the southern kingdom has prospered under the the reign of king uzziah different person and so as so often happens when we become successful we become proud and we start to think it's us and we become complacent and the kingdom the southern kingdom moves into materialism pleasure seeking and looking out for themselves the word of god says in proverbs 16 that pride comes before destruction and a haughty spirit before stumbling and the essence of pride is when we shift our confidence from god to ourselves and this is what the whole kingdom has done and this king he leads them in this and then he doubles down on his sin and he goes into the holiest place and he does things that only a priest should do and so he's struck with leprosy he's unclean and he starts to just come apart but at the same time as as this king is literally dying this terrible kingdom arose they say it's the cruelest empire that has ever been it's like the the taliban of the ancient world they impale they amputate they flay prisoners and it's on its way to israel now israel has been under king uzziah for 52 years imagine we had a good president who had led our country into health and prosperity since 1969 52 years and imagine then he dies it's an existential crisis in the year that king uzziah died i saw the lord and i want to give you three glimpses of god that he has first one he has a glimpse that god is allowed from everlasting to everlasting you are god god was god when the universe came into existence he was god when the first people came to africa he was god when nicholas said god is dead he was god when mitchell died he is god in the thousand billion years he will still live and he will still exist there's no single head of state potentate dictator king who'll be around in 60 years but god will be god and we can trust in him this gives me hope jesus said i am the resurrection and the life and and maybe dreams have died maybe these things that are dead inside of you maybe you need a miracle we serve a god who is alive what feels like dead what do you feel what feels like death he can resurrect second thing he sees him enthroned he is the lord high and exalted seated on the throne he rules and he has authority we don't give god authority he has authority now combine the apex courts parliament the office of the president the parliament the united nations the world court the chinese army the american army combine them all together and their power and authority doesn't even come infinitesimally close to the authority that god has this should be a joy to you it's a terror to those outside of god but to those of us who love god it's a joy i've got a long story to tell you about the time that i faced for satanists but i'll give you the short version of it i had a terrible day i felt so weak i felt so powerless and i had to meet with the satanist was up for murder and as i walked towards him because i met my restaurant didn't want to have him at my house bad dude bad dude as i walked towards him i felt this wave of power sewage from behind me you know like when you catch a wave but just and hit him and i knew who he was i mean i never met him but i knew i knew he was the person and long story came to christ and but the third or fourth meeting i said to him did you feel that power he said absolutely we serve a god of power we serve a god of might we serve a god of authority have you been to an airshow when the silver falcons fly over you ever been to an airshow like a seven four seven flowers of a lion you could just feel the power this is the power that god has and and it doesn't even relate and lastly the last glimpse that i want you to be envisioned is that he is holy holy holy try hagios three times holy to call god holy one should be enough to say twice is emphatic to say three times is superlative god is so holy that our minds can't comprehend it our lips we don't have enough language to describe the holiness of god you know holiness is the only attribute of god that is described in triplicate you don't hear god being described as good good good or loved of love love or khan khan khan or mighty mighty mighty but he is described here and in revelations chapter 4 i believe as holy holy holy my words fail when it comes to holiness but what does the word mean it means to separate or to cut and and earthly things can be holy you and i can be holy holy literally means to be devoted to god and scripture teaches us about holy assemblies and holy cities and holy men and holy women and holy scriptures and there's even a holy kiss do not try tonight well you can but not in covert i'm doing a rabbit trail yeah things that are separated unto god become holy i don't know what that means but god is great god is holy so so man can and things of earth can be described as holy but how do we apply that to god we can't apply that to god i studied law and we learned this term as soo generous fancy latin word for he is absolutely unique one of a kind the very goddess of god means that he's separated from everything else when moses asked for god's name in exodus chapter three remember what god said i am who i am i am what i want to be i will be who i want to be this is the name yahweh jehovah his being and his character are utterly independent of anything outside of him he's not holy because he keeps the law okay he made the law the law is holy because he made it so what is holiness it's his utterly unique divine transcendent pure essence which in its uniqueness has infinite value in the end our language runs out we sail to the end of the world and we are we don't know what to say and and that's what happens to isaiah he is undone have you ever been for a job interview or maybe you're trying to date a girl or attract a guy and you see the competition okay you're going for a job interview and you just see the competition you're like i'm undone woe is me isaiah has an encounter with god and as he compares himself to god he says i can't compare and no longer does he care about that king uzziah died and no longer is he worried that the syrian kingdom is coming after them he has a vision of god in his authority in his holiness in his life and my question to you is do you have a hard view of god or love you have you made god in your image a low view of god is that you put god into your life a harvey of god is that i'm undone his beauty his glory his holiness what has captured you what is your vision what you see defines you it defines your future it defines how you see your situation may we live with a fresh perspective on god i so appreciated what moosa what did you say when you started worship god is doing new things and god wants to give you a fresh vision of him without vision my people perish you know helen keller philanthropist activist writer incredible woman who went blind when she's about 19 months old she said the only thing worse than being blind is to have no vision and let our vision not be for our own life alone but first and foremost may we have a vision of god second thing inflamed he says woe is me i'm ruined i'm a man of unclean lips and i live amongst unclean lips i'm dirt and i'm surrounded by dirt he is struck by his sin by his weakness and he says that he is ruined and isaiah cries out he doesn't minimize he doesn't try to redefine he doesn't try to justify he doesn't try a blame shift he doesn't point fingers at anybody else he acknowledges his sin now there's many reasons why we sin and i don't know your story and i don't know your struggles and i don't know what you've been through and may god heal you but let's be straight you need to earn your sin you need to own your sin and when i say own it you can't clean yourself up you can't put fig leaves on yourself you can't you earn it by bringing your heart before god and crying out to him you don't clean up your eggs you don't give up your beer you give yourself to jesus isaiah recognizes the lord and he's undone he recognizes that he's a man of unclean lips and then the seraphim comes from the altar the throne is for god but the ulti is for us and this speaks of what is done at the altar of jesus the sacrificial lamb weak on cleanse herself but but it comes and attaches his lips and it's a good burn you ever have a good burn maybe doing some exercise you have a good burn this is the best burn of all he has a burn that burns away his sin there's nothing that you've done there's no sin there's no rebellion it doesn't matter how many times you've done it remember when they said to jesus how many times did we forgive seven times seventy times seven in one day jesus said basically saying you've got to forgive people doesn't matter how many times how much more will god forgive you if you come to him he will send his angels and you'll cleanse your lips i mean that's an image of a far greater thing that jesus cleanses you and jesus washes you you will be reconciled to god if you fart from god don't stand that place god is reaching out to you third enlisted says then i heard the voice of the lord saying whom shall i send and who will go for us and i said here i am send me do you know the massive jump first he's undone and he's aware of his sin and he cries out to god and now all of a sudden god's saying who will god he's saying me you haven't noticed that you know david king david when he sinned he murdered uriah he committed adultery with bathsheba he becomes aware of his sins psalm 51 he writes psalm 51 he says create me a pure heart oh god renew a steadfast spirit within me this is these songs prayer of repentance do not cast me from your presence or take your holy spirit from me amazing that he knew the holy spirit back then before we had 1 corinthians 12 and 14 etc to teach us restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant your willing spirit to sustain me verse 13 then i will teach transgressors your ways so that sinners will turn back to you i've had two open visions in my life and the one was i was in a cold dark winter's morning and i was just begging for food for bread i was in a desperate straight desperate place it was a painting i was in the painting i was the beggar and on the other side of the picture was these nuts on horse and steam coming from their breath and they were going to war all surrounding a king all of them on horsebacks it kind of like a medieval vibe and the interpretation was that i had once been a night in the service of the king and i'd fallen into dishonor and done bad things and lost my way and lost everything and now i was resorting to begging and this moment was the moment when i came across or they came across my path my king and his nuts the next picture which i didn't see but the interpretation was that the king would say never mind food never mind drink give the man a horse give him a sword give him some clothes there's a battle to be fought there's a war to be won doesn't matter about his past doesn't matter about his shame doesn't matter about what he's done there's stuff to be done and that's the spirit of this verse azai recognizes his sin and his failings he cries out to god his lips are attached and god says who will go and he says here i am send me on tuesday i went running and i had a bad run halfway through well as we were running my friend said to me you're not gonna run thursday because we were running too fast and i hadn't run and then i pulled something he knows me well so you can laugh so i walked back the last four kilometers but and i was a bit like bleak at first and then i prayed and i had this amazing time with god so by the time i got to the coffee shop it was about 40 runners i was full of the holy spirit so i came across this lady who i know and she she dresses strangely and she's got tattoos everywhere and rings everywhere and she's got two husky wolf dogs and i know her and her husband and she swears like a trooper and she's a bronze sculptures like heavy artist and and i don't know what she said like one sentence to me and i don't even i don't know what i said to her i said like three words back and next thing she's crying she's weeping and there's like 40 people all standing around drinking coffee and then she hugs me and then she lets go then she hugs me again and then she sends me a message later on that day and it was all like new age like linger but what she was saying what she had experienced god she had experienced god god wants to use you it's not about your perfection it's about his perfection it's about what jesus has done so what do you see are you caught with the problems of this world your own problems what is your vision who's on the throne do you have the hard view of god or love you of god and then lastly to the question that god is asking you tonight will you go will you go for me will you go to your neighbors into your running crew and wherever and your friends and fellow students will you go to them and minister jesus i want us to pray together i want to give you an opportunity now if you in that woe is me place you know that your sins are separating you from god you you feel a conviction your heart is drawn know this he loves you and this is why he sent his son this is why jesus said i will go jesus did it first he said our god he paid the price for your sins so you don't clean up your act you don't stand in your unrighteousness but what you do is you cry to god and you ask him to cleanse you and to forgive you and he does that and he will do it and he will receive you and wash you and you'll be his son you'll be his daughter [Music] if you want to come home i want you to be decisive [Music] won't you be decisive and just stand to your feet if that's you [Music] don't it's not about to be witnesses we pray this in jesus mighty name all god's people said amen and amen thank you sorry i went on about beer tonight i don't know why i did that thank you thank you thank you so much so so so great we really enjoyed that thank you so much it really feels like a father just just speaking to us and so great so that we can have that and yeah we're reminded this morning one of the things that really stood out for me is you know what do we see what do you see and when we see god as alive as a god who's enthroned as a god who is who's so good to us and that was so encouraging and so inspiring to remember really for us to open our eyes to see what do we see that really stood out for me just seeing god as alive and powerful um i was really just encouraged by that what about you yeah i think two things stood out for me uh the first one was god is giving us a new a new perspective of him because sometimes we can get so fixed on what other people have told us or what we've seen other people think and all sorts of stuff but we've never like taken the opportunity to know behold him and give him that you know new perspective and look at him even when our situations have changed and things look like god you're looking foggy now you're just like god is giving us a new perspective of him and also just the fact that um give that man a horse that's it that vision is so powerful so true so um we are moving on with our program uh i would like to introduce someone very special to many many of us um um i'd like to introduce uh pastor newell and yeah yeah he is um he is the campus pastor or campus director and every nation campus vits he's been in ministry for for 16 years really loves coffee that's true he got a whole bag of it for his birthday and um yeah and he really enjoys running but for me what really stands out for me about neo is that he is such a spiritual father and a spiritual brother he will be there for you even when you don't want him to be there for you he will be there for you and he's very faithful can we give a round of applause [Applause] hello so normally like when a speaker like takes time to unfold you guys are like supposed to clap whatever but it's just me right i'm just joking yo guys hello [Applause] i'm telling you like hell is freezing over a couple of months ago didn't look like i was gonna make it here [Music] i i wanted to open up by saying i had covered but kovit had me july for some of you that no it's not in my notes what am i doing but for some of you that know i had i had to spend 10 days in hospital because of a very very very bad case of covet and i had so many moments when i wasn't sure that i'd be standing here so i mean this is just the grace of god just as a testimony of the awesomeness of the god that we serve [Applause] and i'm so excited about tonight that if i wasn't scared that i was gonna fall i would be doing handstands on top of this pulpit probably do like a break dancing competition with pastor roger give him a horse or something i don't know let me get into it lord we thank you for your presence tonight lord god we thank you that you are the awesome god lord jesus we thank you that you're opening up eyes tonight lord god we thank you that healing is flowing in this place tonight lord god even when the world around us convinces us to tries to convince us to believe the opposite lord god healing is flowing in this place tonight lord god physical healing emotional healing lord god relational healing lord god we lift you up tonight lord god we lift you up tonight lord jesus amen this past weekend we had the honor of having pastor kevin uh york uh come and speak um in south south africa he was in this exact very venue and one of the things that he spoke about he said that when we're looking at the issues in the world sometimes we realize that when you try to address one issue you realize that all these issues are interconnected and that got me there's almost like an entanglement of issues all these issues are interconnected and he said that john wesley um put it in these two words he said that it's a complicated wickedness he said that looking at the world around us what he sees is a complicated wickedness you try to touch the poverty issue the sexism issue shows up the homophobia issue shows up some other cause all these issues are interconnected and how he put it is that nations are broken because of the great rebellion of mankind i believe that even with this complicated wickedness facing us god has a simple answer for us tonight the simplicity of the solution is in the gospel the simplicity of the solution of what is happening around us it's still in the gospel when i was lying on that bed dying of cobalt whatever was happening with my body i still remember that the simplicity of what is happening to me the solution is still in the gospel so for each and every single one whatever it is that's holding you down on your bed the simplicity of the solution that you need is in the gospel isaiah 6 we still on isaiah 6 as pastor roger preaches so well i'm going to do the 10th kind of teaching i'm just going to mention the three words so as essex there's a whole paragraph there i'm going to speak about the first two words the first four words in the year that [Applause] do you know what is happening around you right now are you able to tell the story like isaiah and be able to say in the year that are you aware of the times that are around you are you able to fill in the blanks and say in the year that the awesomeness of god is not a form of escapism for us for us to ignore in the year that dot dot dot somebody preached the sermon last year and said about 20 20 it is the year that changed the world this was the year for azad it was the year that changed the world he was able to say in the year that it says in first chronicles 12 32 that the sons of issachar who had an understanding of the times do we have an understanding of the times they knew what israel ought to do isaiah had an understanding of the times and he could utter in the year that there was a recognitioning there was a recognition a reckoning and a re-rooting at hand do you feel the re-routing that's at hand in the season that we find ourselves in there was a series of tweets from a couple of years back and they would put like a nice picture of somebody sleeping peacefully uh looking like they've been sleeping for a while um or in a deep sleep and they would have this kind of caption under the tweet sleeping like how god slept throughout apartheid or sometimes i would switch it up and put like a world leader or a presidential figure or an influential political figure no presidential figure or an influential political figure of sleeping in the middle of parliament and they would say something to the effect of how god was sleeping when black people were fighting their own battles during apartheid and slavery people there's a misunderstanding about who god is and what he did and can do that is informed by how we have misrepresented him how we have failed to see in the year that how we fail to show up to the years that would change the world there's a narrative that's not a biblical scriptural account of god's heart but our heart as the church past and present this theme of reconciliation is not just about us knowing how to respond to division partisanship or having tools to respond to people groups standing on opposite ends regarding societal issues but it's a reintroduction of the true nature of who god is the true nature of what god wants to do the real revelation that people who need him like they've never needed him before need to see and how we show up to that conversation how we show up to that year it's not just about converse it's how we show up to that conversation is major it means everything it changes everything have you seen that even when the church has been written off people still want to know what the church's response is have you have you seen that have you seen what what we do when that happens we get defensive we don't notice the opportunity that's opening up we get defensive we get all these very defensive responses but it's a moment for us to show up in a way that is major but there's another quote that i saw you can open your bibles in a book of quotes first second quotes 13 verse 17 b and i believe this quote speaks of the people that i'm speaking to tonight and it simply said you messed with the wrong generation that's all that quote said we see what happened with the generations from the past but you messed with the wrong generation you touched the wrong generation i believe that i'm humbled to be standing in front of a generation that will ex accept nothing less than god's best that will accept nothing less than the standard of love above the standards of the world reconciliation is not just the hopeful relationship but it's a hope for our hearts i'm standing in front of a generation that is saying we'll take it the whole way to the point of reconciliation i heard this phrase from a book as i was typing to as i was trying to read the book but the the phrase i don't want to make it seem like i read many books i used to until like pastor girl comes so that book you read i'm like so a phrase that i read simply said institutionalized indifference before i get deeper into it can i speak a little bit about hatred can i touch a little bit on hatred can i touch on how my fear is that hatred has the potential to find itself woven into our culture and community see my simple appraisal of what hatred is is that is the opposite or the absence of love quite elementary right but the spiritual implications of hatred is that it's hovering in nature that is the direct opposite of who god is the ultimate undermining of what the full entirety of the claims of the gospel is about when i keep hatred hidden in my heart when i have done it in the past i have known that i'm undermining the work of the cross see sometimes it's kind of sometimes conceivable to see how people that don't know christ can hate but i think for me sometimes it's challenging to see how people that work hand in hand with god who calls themselves love can harbor hate now this phrase institutionalized indifference challenges me because it means something became a part of the system do you guys know that the things that we fight on a systemic level started on a one-on-one personal relational level it's the things that became cemented in people's hearts as they related on a one-on-one basis before they were able to put it into the policies do you guys know that do you guys know that that's why when change happens it happens from the inside out because if you change it on the outside you keep it on the inside what's on the inside is going to flow into the what's out there and change it back to what's ultimately on the inside do you guys know that what words do you use when you are hateful towards someone or a group of people because what keeps it institutionalized is that we use great words to cover it up i i i i had an encounter with someone in my aquarium group a couple of years back where he asked a question about a group of people that were in constant conversation about the conversation was mostly from my side but that's not what we're talking about now and he asked this question just he wasn't trying to say anything he just said he's like hey so do we still hate them and i was like that's offensive i'm a whole connect leader an anointed one by the way i don't understand why you would accuse me of hatred and then he he hit me with this and this is when i knew god was trying to say something about the sin in my heart he said to me oh i'm so sorry what do you want to call it and i knew that in that moment whatever it is i called it either gave it a tag where it will never ever be challenged and have an opportunity to be changed what do you call the hatred in your heart what names do you give it that's what keeps it around for generations right do you know do you know this is one of my favorite quotes because it challenges me so much somebody once said that john odbeck once said that you only love god as much as the person you hate the most did you know have you ever thought of that because it's the image of god if i can apply hatred completely towards the spirit that's how much you actually really do love god i think things got a little bit awkward banned isaiah 6 i'm not going to read again because pastor roger read it so well but the first verse said in the year king uzziah died i saw the lord sitting upon the throat a throne high and lifted up and the train of his robe filled the temple continuing from verse one i did the first four words he said in the year and then later on he said i saw i think god wants to restore seeing tonight he said it with pastor roger and i feel him double clicking on it again he said i saw isaiah like jesus had a view of god that dictated his life's direction and ultimate mission do you know what jesus said he said i see what the father is i do what i see the father is doing jesus soul his awesome life was informed by the awesomeness of the god that he saw could the mediocrity of our lives be a reflection of what we are open to seeing in god the disciples were called to be witnesses and a witness is not somebody that has great opinions or has great studies but it's somebody that was there and they actually saw paul himself had an experience on the road to damascus had a flesh and light flesh around him and asked who are you lord paul so what do you see what a short lived pursuit of change both personal national regional or global we would find ourselves in without the awesomeness of god overarching our perspective and commitment without seeing him in his perfect splendor first as their soul god and god's throne that speaks about god's governance he saw the kind of leadership that god had as i saw god and god's angel that speaks about the social order of heaven biblical reconciliation which is what we're talking about tonight is a difficult pursuit and it requires that we see first and that we are ever seeing one of the things that we're all guilty of is changing the goal post right so if it seems like it's too hard i kind of bring it a little bit closer to make myself shine no when things become a little bit difficult i don't acknowledge that i need grace i i change the goal i redefined the goal but what keeps us from not redefining the goal is that we are seeing god and we are ever seeing biblical reconciliation is a difficult concept for both the victim and the perpetrator it would be an inauthentic conversation about reconciliation without mentioning these two parties firstly for the victim to face the trauma they once have faced sometimes requires a living a reliving to release for the victim to face the trauma one has faced sometimes requires a reliving to release it's difficult because sometimes for you to be able to consider full forgiveness and reconciliation you have to face what you went through again but i will only face it if i'm still seeing but it's also difficult for the perpetrator because to accept acknowledge and take responsibility not only for one's actions that's not repentance but to take responsibility but for living in such a way that perpetuates a system that can make victims of others to push yourself to that point as a male living in the world that we're living in knowing that there are certain systems that i benefit from more than the women who sometimes work harder than me but to push myself to that point is because i keep seeing the standard is god not my comfort levels to understanding the weight of reconciliation i looked at the first ever fallout in human history you guys know what that was right it's the first it was first a fall out with the father and secondly it was a fallout with fellow men do you know that it's normally two-fold you don't just fall out with god i mean you don't just follow up with people you fall out with god as well we don't just fall out with god but we fall out with people as well i reason when people like i'm talking to god they're not talking to you either which i don't get but that's besides the point i'm going to talk about how these adam and eve who were the original what who in the bible i believe have the oldest fallout i'm going to talk about how they had two worldly approaches and responses and how sometimes we have the same world approaches and responses but when they did what they did god knew the implications of this relational breakdown it will not only implicate these two but many generations to come do you know guys know what happens in the next generation of adam and eve's line they kill each other they kill each other in the next generation the very first offspring fall victim to this spirit of irreconcilable differences which results in death cain resorts to being his brother's killer instead of being his brother's keeper now the genesis 3 solutions are the solutions that we come up with outside christ outside of christ we don't have a prototype for the fullness of this reconciliation what we need is we need to see genesis 3 verse 7 to 12 says then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized they were naked so they sold fake leaves together and made coverings for themselves then the men and his wife heard the son of the lord god as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day and they hid from the lord god among the trees of the garden but the lord god called the men where are you he answered i heard you in the garden and i was afraid because i was naked so i hate and he said who told you that you were naked have you eaten from the tree that i commanded you for not to eat from then the men said the woman that you put with me she gave me some food from the tree and i ate it two things that happened they sold fig leaves and adam sold a finger pointing he brought it into this creation he brought it into this world they sold fig leaves together and made coverings from themselves they sold a separation between god and man with god excluded from the equation his response was reactive not restorative reconciliation is always going the full-out extent to being restorative adam's response was just reactive which made it best fitted for what he was feeling at the time it addressed his current state if we had to be honest we recognize that adam stopped seeing it was a solution with god excluded from the equation it was a covering that was more of a cover-up he sold finger-pointing why this is important is because i believe those relational dynamics still play out to this day the men said the woman you put here with me she gave me some fruit from the tree and i ate it he would have gotten zero for that question if it was an exam because that's not what god asked him he came up with a solution created in self-preservation with eve excluded from the equation and that sold separation from man and his fellow men four points and i'm going to call it a night tonight what isaiah presents to us in isaiah 6. is how god models reconciliation through the work of the gospel number one there was appreciation there was an attractiveness of god's presence and god's wonder in verse 1 in the year king was i that he saw the lord high upon a throne he was affected by what he grew in appreciation of his appetite for the glory of god that he so apprehended and captured him what do we have a growing appetite for secondly there was accountability there wasn't an acknowledgement of his state up until that chapter the first five chapters he was talking about what everybody else is doing but when he was faced with the glory of who god is he realized how he was a part of the problem when it comes to reconciliation you might not be a hundred percent wrong but you have to own up to some percentage one of the things i learned from pastor carol i just quoted her verbatim right there the second the third thing is atonement that acceptance is actually by grace and by grace alone it says in verse 7 that he touched my mouth and said behold this has touched your lips your guilt is taken away and are toneful atonement is the action of making amends for a wrong or an injury this action can only be correctly done by god once again pointing to the gospel and the last point is isaiah displayed his availability and that is the only appropriate response to being faced with the glory of god he says i heard the voice of the lord saying whom shall i send and who will call for us then i ask questions but lord when do you want it to be in the evening in the morning do you want to send me in summer or in spring you want to send me when i'm feeling okay or not he said here am i send me please stand to your feet adam and eve gave up their authorities their authority to power that led them away from god we have the opportunity to lay hold of this call and be part of god's redemption plan reconciliation is not just about a hope for relationships but it's about a hope for our hearts do you know that a heart that is unwilling to reconcile hardens you know that you don't have a spare heart that you can say this one i use for god and for quiet time you wake up at 6 a.m ooh hi ellen take another heart put it in yes lord it's the same hardened heart hardened heart hebrews 12 in verse 40 says make every effort to live in peace with everyone to be holy without holiness no one will see the lord see to that no one falls down of the grace of god and that no better route grows up to cause trouble and defile many john uh i wrote the wrong john 13 verse 34 says a new command i give you love one another as i have loved you so you must love one another by this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another but the most difficult one is first john 4 verse 7 says beloved let us love one another for love is from god and whoever loves has been born of god and knows god anyone who does not love does not know god because god is love verse 11 says beloved if god so loved us we also ought to love another one another no one has ever seen god if we love one another god abides in us and his love is perfected in us how can we say we love god whom we have not seen but hate the person that we've seen in front of us this theme of reconciliation is about reintroducing the nature of god of who god is in a world that needs him like it's never needed him before so look god we lift you up tonight look god may you do in us first what you want to do in the world out there lord god where there are hardened hearts of god i pray that by your spirit and by your presence you would soften us upload god soften our hearts tonight lord jesus as pastor rogers said that you would be on the throne and not us lord god lord god as the past two years have shown us that we are more connected than we actually had ever imagined lord god may the pain of other people move us lord god [Music] we lift you up tonight lord jesus we thank you lord god that your spirit is upon us tonight not god because you have anointed us not god to preach good news to the poor that you have bound us up and then you have sent us out to bind up the brokenhearted we worship you tonight lord god because you have sent us out to proclaim liberty to the captives of god and the opening of prison to those who are bound may we be that picture that you want to see in the world around us lord god in your name we pray jesus amen amen [Applause] come on come on come on let's just give him another round of applause [Music] wow that was so excellent can we give him another round of applause wow that was so good [Music] so so good thank you so much personnel for ministering the word it was so powerful um and so impactful i i really believe that each and every single one of us here we were touched by that and it gives us even a room for us to introspect like where am i where do i find myself and to really be honest with us that was really so good um and i and i love what you said you know with regards to biblical reconciliation it requires us to see and to keep seeing we need to see who god is and that's when we we see that god that god is a god who reconciles us to himself but also to one another and we get to do that sure come on uh what do you guys say in gramstown now you fetched us you fetched us not proper frenchmen we have been fetched we have a friend i think what really stood out to me was um that quote that says you have messed with the wrong generation and uh come on now my question is to myself and to all of us are we gonna be that generation that says you have messed with the wrong generation to the issues that we find in society or are we going to be like that king in uh in in second kings 20 hezekiah who said whatever is happening is good as long as the mess does not happen in my lifetime as long as i'm okay as long as i'm okay it's good are we gonna be like that are we gonna say to all of the issues that are surrounding our country in our societies you have messed with the wrong generation come on now it's so good come on so we've had such an awesome time uh this evening it's
