If you mesh together all the times we have probably been self-centered into a video I can garentee even the most selfless persons video would be longer than nine minutes. We are allowed to think of ourselves first every now and again, even Elena. I don't like her, but trying to make her out as narcissistic is ridiculous and pretty unfounded. We could probably get half a season of her being selfless, from less than half the series.
