Electrolysis Project To Remove Rust

[Music] foreign here kind of nice um we I got this fine in Oregon and I'm not sure I think it's a splitter at first I thought it was an ax head but for what splitting wood oh you put a wooden pounded down um I don't know if it's old or not but I definitely want to get some of this rust off so we're gonna try something um so is this science class science 101 I'm a little scared with Gary so what I need to do this is plastic request tub so I've got a tub full of water [Music] um it says so washing soda works best but I couldn't find any so the next best thing is salt so we'll be using them salt and we've never seen it before wow okay I'm impressed we're gonna get the water salty wow I'm having a great time yeah I don't know how much to use I'm just gonna put a bunch in there more is better I think yeah I put a lot whoa there it goes it probably Broke Free if we can add more if we need to let's get this mixed up a little bit nice we're making soup we need to set this up so we need a couple iron rods and when I was over at uh Ron and Tiff's house in Oregon they did this but pnw dirt fish yes so we connect new powers stuff we're doing today I know I'm a little scared electricity and water is always fun so I stripped down this wire and I'm going to try to attach it to this item you probably set it right here and we can always adjust it if we need to I'm just hoping I get a good connection here this I love connections you're funny and then like I said we'll check it from time to time but this is going to be interesting that should be a good connection and you want whatever you're working on has to be fully submerged and it is whew that keeps our clamps out of the um water you don't want to put them in the water positive it's working already just kidding positive will go to the rods and a negative which is scary you don't ever want these things to touch negative will go to the device that you're trying to clean and thank you to my brother who gave me the very old battery charger apparently the newer ones do not work because they have to um they'll detect a battery and they won't perform this way so I'm a little nervous I'm a little nervous too this is new first so let's just watch it all explode oh no um so we're gonna put this on charge and see what okay look get a close-up wow look at look at it go pressed so you definitely want to do this outside because it does produce gases oh that's right science stuff that's why we're out here in a ventilated area well let that thing go it's working nasty anyway we will update you on the progress it's kind of weird how the wires it's only the wire that's bubbling right now but this is exciting the water is going to get really gross and what happens is all the rust is going to come off of the the item you're cleaning and it's going to attach to the rods this is basically vibrating this whole piece is what you're saying no it's electrolysis it's eating away the rust and it's going to collect onto the positive side which are the two oh on the rods oh we'll see how it goes so we'll update you this is exciting and hopefully when we're all done we'll have a nice clean piece of iron oh okay okay oh my gosh this thing is nasty [Music] ooh diarrhea that's pretty gross it's working so um I kind of want to see if it's connecting to the rod or not oh you can see down here that's kind of cool I don't have to pull it out but see the see the rods getting kind of gross oh my gosh that's crazy ew it's not sticking too bad too the poopies on it yeah your favorite thing anyway look at the stuff I just stirred up just by moving the rod dude look at that layer at the bottom yeah that's crazy this is the one hour update that I did add more salt earlier anyways definitely working so this is fun are you having fun I put those on just in case I had to touch it it's the next day yes it is it's been running all night long and I just got off work so it's been running for another 10 hours wow look at this this is gross gross yeah gross another one that looks gross oh fight your tongue woman yeah look at that ooh make sure you turn everything off and unplug everything I was gonna put my finger in a light socket yeah they're not that's not funny it's off okay thank you very much let's see where we stand cautionary measures oh dude that's Epic [Music] look at the how much of this is worn out oh my gosh that's crazy smells burnt too wow look how much that it was eating away now for the real test here I'm surprised you would even grab it by that yeah yeah hey it's coming along yeah not as much as I'd hoped it's okay help it along here uh yeah I'm pretty sure you're oh okay that is really nasty this one was really bad it's not really coming off as fast as I'd hoped oh I'm a lefty I gotta switch hands here oh he's playing look at that the Top's clear wow that is really gross look at that top it's all totally gone off the top that's amazing these chunks will come off all right sir all right so it's going to be a long process I guess because we picked such a big piece to try this with um your hands are disgusting just set it on the ground I'm gonna go wash this off first and then we'll power it back up yes and go all day long all right bye okay bye I've been standing over this way too long what the heck something's wrong with me I think it's a fumes actually I have Delta Dental the best dentist in the world take those teeth out it's disgusting that's disgusting and there was a big old troll thing yum oh let's see how we're doing here this has been another eight to ten hours oh my goodness hey it's still it's still doing its thing it's fine it's just settling look at that yeah we're losing more of the rod to save us spare the rod spoil the child yes well I'm definitely spoiled so wow now for this really check this out here oh wow oh it looks great it's getting smaller this is a long process the back is totally gone this is stubborn look at that coming off though we picked a really big one to start with [Music] I think it was better that way because then it shows the progression yeah it's taken a long time but it's working trying to knock someone's off to speed it up a little bit of slime I wonder if any advantageous to change out the water this is coming off that's crazy it's definitely got more shape to it yeah it does gosh are so many bugs dude what are those bugs thank God they're not mosquitoes dude I had two of them attacking my arm like I was a freaking there there's thousands like it was a buffet or something I don't know it's because we're near the wash I don't know it's disgusting oh we should go away anyway okay I did a refill a second time just to give this some clean water and it's our this I started out last night so it's been running all night long so it's a smell what smells it smells well check yourself I don't smell oh look at this oh what's that was junkies I'm gonna disconnect it now this is that should be the final time look at these oh wow there isn't much left of these things wow that's ooh anyway let's go to the water let's hose myself down hold on what what oh no oh no it's too cold hold on what did you do to the hose bruh sorry guys there we go okay whoa taking some good cheese that's for sure when you do gloves tour that's okay all right let's take a look at this thing that's super cool that was really nice I'm impressed it is definitely worn problems in the ground as it was rusting it was probably eating away at some of this naturally yeah wow that is so cool we turn it around we will not see any markings on it it's just good job yeah I'm pretty happy with the results results and it's cold wow it's chilly yeah electrolysis probably close to two full days of running absolutely took a long time this is a big piece to start on yeah it looks good though yeah I'll try to clean up some more I'll get some steel wool and this when I go to the store and uh see if I can get it really clean get me some chocolate chip ice cream goodbye okay bye thank you
