- Oh, that's Mama. (gasps) Oh! (choked up) Wow! Wow. - (FBE) So recently, you provided us with some throwback pictures of yourself when you were younger. - (whispers) Oh my gosh. I forgot which one I sent. - Oh, that's right! I had to take all my pictures down off the walls and take them out of the frames to do that. (chuckles) - The nostalgia looking through them, and it brought back a lot of my childhood. - (FBE) So today, we're gonna have you go through some of them, but they may look a little different than when they were sent in. - Oh. You're Photoshopping me. Is that it? - (FBE) All right. So here's the first one. - (gasps) Daddy. My oldest son looks like my father. He died in 1953. My daddy was 20 years older than my mother. But look how handsome he is! - (FBE) So, here's the same photo, but as you'll see, it's been altered. - Oh, how beautiful. It's like he's alive. It's beautiful. (sniffs) That's my father. Yeah, Dr. Withers. Daddy died in 1953. So, I was six. And I'm 73 now, so I really didn't know him that well. - Yeah, that's the picture I remember. Definitely. Me and my brother, Mark. I really like looking at him. Brings back lots of memories. He worked for the Department of Justice, state of California. Now he's retired. Okay, let's see what you did to u-- oh, no, you colored it! It's beautiful! (gasps) And you put light green on. Very nice. And you did his little blue jeans. - Well, that's me. I remember it. I don't know-- I must have been, who knows. Maybe eight. Eight or nine years old. Oh! Good. You gave me a sun tan. - That's my mom and dad. And I would imagine that's at San Juan Capistrano here in southern California back in the '40s maybe judging by a great outfit. Oh, wow! It's so weird to see them that young 'cause I never-- you don't think of your parents-- looking at them that way when you're a kid. Oh, no. It's like seeing them alive again. It's kind of neat. - (gasps) Mama. Oh, look at her. She's got her Sunday best on. Oh, that's Mama. (gasps) Oh! (choked up) Wow. Wow. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. Doesn't she look regal? And the clothes that she's wearing. Look at the shoes! This is an honor. This is a privilege. It really is. It really is, because I lost my mom 15 years ago. She was 92. And I think I kind of resemble my mother. And the older I get, people tell me I speak like her, you know, my mannerisms. Oh. This has made my day. - I was at pilot training in Texas. This is flying an AT-6, a trainer plane. Even better. I mean, the picture's black and white, and then the uniform was blue. It was Air Force. So, I was Air Force blue, so it improved it. I loved flying, and I'm sorry I didn't-- I couldn't be, but I have a history of airsickness. They called it fear of flying or manifestation of apprehension. I wasn't able to complete it. I had 64 hours of pilot training, almost 20 hours solo. So, it was good. It was just-- it just wasn't for me. - Aww, yeah! Look at that little-- aren't those the cutest little thi-- I want those now. Those were red by the way, those overalls. I still remember those. I loved those things. You did 'em red! Oh my gosh! 'Cause they were. They were red. Look at th-- and then my little blonde hair. Oh! Isn't that funny how I can remember those overalls from that? I mean, what am I, three there maybe? - Oh, yes. That's our little family. That's in our backyard. My mom always loved to wear hats. And she had those kind of cat glasses, and my dad looks really handsome there. And my little brother, that's my other brother, my younger brother, Eric. And me, even at that age, I think I'm a little fashion plate. Oh, wow! Okay, you put my daddy in a blue suit, my mom in sort of a green dress. Very nice. You made my little shoes match my little dress. How cute. 'Cause she's such a fashion plate. She would want to be coordinated. All the old photographs I have are all black and white, so it's so nice to see what can be done with that. - Oh, oh! That's my sister, Addie! My sister's older than I am. I'm 73. She's 74. I haven't seen my sister in quite a few years. But I remember that little dress is a plaid dress. (gasps) This is beautiful. But I remember the dress being blue. - Oh, yes! (claps) This was my fifth birthday. This was at our house in San Miguel in Woodland Hills. As every kid wants, I got a pony rented for my birthday party. I wanted to be Dale Rogers at that point when I was a kid. I was gonna grow up to be a Dale Rogers. Oh, god. I don't know why I look so unhappy, 'cause I was thrilled. I wasn't gonna get-- I remember I would not get off the horse. That was my fifth birthday. And then we moved. By the next year, we were in the new house. Oh, god. I just love that horse. - This was when I just got in the business back in the early... I'm trying to think. About 1957 or 1958. And I needed some photographs. And I answered an ad in a magazine that a photographer would do. In exchange for posing for him for pictures, he'd give you pictures to make a portfolio. You know, I gotta be honest, I prefer the black and white. This is all right, but I mean, I seemed to have-- you know, it's sort of a beefcake shot. And I could see more definition in my abs in the black and white. - Ooh, there I am in the corner. I look so sad. Mr. Blossom. Oh my-- I had a terrible crush on him. Yeah, Mr. Blossom. This is fourth grade. Oh my gosh. I know I had a white blouse on. And there's Barbara up there. And I remember this little kid here. I forgot his name, but when we graduated in eighth grade, he wouldn't hold my hand, 'cause we had to walk down side by side and get our diploma. That was very hurtful. - Oh, the professional photographer came out to the house. I loved posing for the camera even back then. And that book was my favorite book. It has a red cover, and it was something about a bunny that could fly. I still have the book. and I know what color the dress is. We'll see what happens. Spot on. Spot on. My hair was maybe-- hard to believe, but it was white blonde. It was not naturally curly like that. She set that in pin curls. I was so excited when the photographer came, 'cause I was a ham even then. - Okay, this is a film I did in Greece in 1960. It was called "It Happened in Athens." - (man) Well, what do you know, fellas. We're representing the whole United States. - Yeah, that looks better. Yeah, everybody looks better. I mean, the fella with the blue suit and the actress there, now that's-- yeah, color enhanced this photo for sure. I did this film and went back-- and this was in Athens. And I went back to Rome, and I did some theater. And I got into English dubbing of Italian films and started getting a few films. And one thing led to the other, and I ended up staying 20 years, met some great people, and... (choked up) and met my to-be wife over there. And I don't regret a bit of it. - Oh, that's me and my cowboy when we got married. And he painted that background. We dressed up in our wedding clothes and took them at the studio with the painted background. And he did it so at the reception we could just hand out photographs to people. (chuckles) Oh, wow! Yeah, you didn't take it too far off what it really was. How did you guys know that? And our accessories were pinkish-purple. A little more purple than that, but that's beautiful, the pink. Oh, it's kind of wonderful, because of course, I love my husband. We've been together over 35 years. (choked up) And if I keep talking, I'm gonna get very emotional. He looks very handsome there, and he's still the love of my life. It's wonderful. It takes you down memory lane. But it's also sentimental. You know, all those emotions come flooding back. - It's emotional, and it's just also-- it always amazes me how far technology's come, 'cause I remember the turmoil, and I was among it, of protesting colorization when Ted Turner started doing that, 'cause it was just horrible. But it's emotional just to see your mom's face and your dad's face all of sudden in color again. Typically, when pictures are in black and white, it's old, you know. But psychologically, this seems to be more current. I've been part of Elders React for two years now. And I've been in a lot of episodes. But I really think this is the one that will always be the top of the chart for me.
