season there's some people that hate on the pickle rick episode but i'm like i don't know that one i like it i mean like it's played out as a meme but like the episode itself is pretty solid i think all it says it's a little bit overrated it won the emmy instead of the citadel episode happily happily agree it's overrated yeah 100 percent yeah so uh the second episode rick mansing the stone was just like completely not good i don't think it's bad i'm not it's yeah it's not one of my favorites that's for sure i recall vindicators being kind of cringe um i'm a defender of that episode actually yeah i like vindicators a lot of because i remember now conversations around it were like oh it's so played out like criticism of avengers or something i was like no it's got stuff to say but also i think it's another example a lot of the reasons well i don't want to because maybe people have more reasons than that but uh dan harmon said he hated it so that's what some people watch on i i didn't i don't care i don't care what dan harmon says by the way the killer of his own shows so you know i'm i'm so i'm so [ __ ] tired of hearing about dan harmon's story circle it actually makes me want to [ __ ] [Music] no i do not like the story circle i don't have to like his story circle to also like his stories you know no of course at least some of his stories i mean [ __ ] community and rick and morty their best is some of my favorite stuff for comedy i was actually re-watching clips of community yesterday uh the the bottle episode the second bottle episode the polygraph test um that's great this dies really good stuff are you really good at having their characters bounce off each other i'll give you this ring it's not as bad as i remember there's only like two episodes that i would call that that's kind of what i'm saying is i think i think season three had a lot of the best episodes of the show or not a lot but it had um it had a lot of really strong ones but it also had a few ones that were like i don't know why one of those season five though i think is this season three that's the best community season that's typically agreed on uh i think that would be a fair well i love one two three like uh i just i can't remember but uh the joke i was almost immediately gone because it gets referenced all the time but just the um i can excuse racism but i draw the light at animal cruelty and then she's [Laughter] a lot of like what's so great about the the the comedy and that i feel is just how naturally the characters come across as this is [ __ ] they would say um but they're very clearly defined personalities do you remember what they're like five dollars that says pierce will say something racist within the next like 20 seconds or something and i can't um what the [ __ ] he just he just mixes up black people basically and i think he says it's subtly enough that he says it that they just passed somebody over and it's like yep also high chapters he didn't call him a clown person oh yeah i've heard clown person is one of the top tier racism insults which is nothing but funny maybe it will be one day if the clown race from space invade and then they integrate with humanity and then you call them [ __ ] clown people and that would become a racist tomb you know wait is that because of the pepe or world thing clown world i don't know i i'm not clear on how clown person is a racist statement weren't they trying to make a carrot karen a slur or something like that i heard that a while back yeah and they failed well to me i was gonna say to draw a a clown person has nothing to do with race karen actually typically refers to a white woman that's true so you can be a clown and be any race you want clown person could be sexist if it's just talking about women because they they wear makeup clowns can be black asian normal and it's going to be any racism men can wear makeup yeah i mean like if you want to be a clown or any of the two genders i feel like you're a minefield i learn all of my new racial slurs from hassan anyway yeah yeah let's get hassan on to teach us all yeah we would be starting if people were on time yeah is it that difficult to be punctual yeah we could do around with eight i guess we can it's just the standard thing of like as soon as we start someone is like oh i'll join you know i can give you [ __ ] i would like to join you now i mean you know i'm not against that idea really because i did yeah we can go ahead and start if you have to set a precedent that you need to be here on time we have a punctuation audience the game where we what even how do you describe this you you write a prompt and then you have to draw the prompt and then someone else describes that prompt and so on until you you create all kinds of funny shenanigans and then we'll because we'll play the normal mode and the normal version of the normal mode and then we'll we'll we'll see what people want to do as we go on um it's a game of that nobody does i kind of thought of star fox is just the name of the game and what is the name of the game the most important part is that you don't mistake it for start for goddammit fox mclaughlin the last starbucks game i played at release was the the adventure one on gamecube or a lot of flying in it it's mostly a zelda game well that was uh that was the last one i played was zero and that was not fun i heard zero zero one was it yes we i think we zero was on wii u i'm gonna make the thumbnail correct don't worry the ship on screen like the standard star fox sort of playing space on screen but on the gamepad screen you had the cockpit view but they were independent and you could only aim accurately through the gamepad so like you flew around and you had to try and keep track of where your ship was on the top screen but you needed to look down at the gamepad and aim that around like physically actually that's just like motion control play it was um it's got bad controls which is like a big prop like i don't know how many video games how do you [ __ ] up star fox controls it's so simple it was because they they i think because that game is basically just star fox 64 again and so like the gimmick is the thing that separates it from the rest of them unfortunately they should have just mentioned to a bad gimmick yeah pretty much um nintendo pawned that off onto platinum games too and made them have to work with that concept i'm like oh platinum's a good story well yeah because i think it's not representative of their work i thought it was me and m i think it was miyamoto's idea um miyamoto has a lot of great ideas and that wasn't one of them unfortunately i think it was his idea and he coincidentally passed that one off to a third-party developer here's the idea yeah guys well so i think the hope is that when you look at the switch and how many i'm pretty sure every single nintendo franchise that has had like a new flagship game on the switch that's become their best-selling game in the series so hopefully that means that they'll look at their more obscure ips like f-zero and star fox and think you know what that might be the time to actually bring them back you could just port gx like that'd be fine people would be really happy with that i think for sixty dollars all right well what you pulled the last that's yeah the last seventy dollars yeah oh my god like did you guys see the new gameplay trailer for the last of us part one and is it me or did they use a lot of words in that six minute trailer to say yeah we made the graphics nicer and the controller shakes more we because it's not it's not i feel like built from the ground up should mean something very specific um namely that it was built from scratch not built based on the existing like code and framework i mean they're part of your you've already redid it for ps4 so i'm sure they just took that updated engine and just wow a lot of people who a lot of people who i was talking to who were trying to justify the 70 tag were saying yeah but it's going to have all the gameplay mechanics from last of us too like the dodging and the prone crawling and jumping which it hasn't either of yeah i know it is like none of that's in there and it seems like they probably could have pretty easily implemented that even if environments wouldn't be designed to take advantage of it you could still do the dodges just fine i i guess it's um you can make because what this seems to be is that the gameplay mechanics like the systems are basically the same with modifications and it's got a new graphics engine or like a new graph just new graphics applied to like everything not just upscaling and resolution but like new assets um that's fine but i don't know how willing people would be to pay full price for that especially when the actual the original game had multiplayer and this one doesn't so you're getting less for more you've got to paint actually more for less content they took out the multiple that was actually really good i like the multiplayer too yeah they're gonna do last of us factions as a free to play multiplayer but ah because of course because sony is starting to realize that that's where the big bucks are for when you're making your multiplayer games well what i'm interested to see is how far they can stretch the oh where's sony you spend seventy dollars on our games but they're premium copies that you don't have to get dlc for and everything and now that they're dipping their toe into it it's like okay they're not dipping their toe into it they're diving into the pool they want 10 of these by 2025 i believe um yeah there are they're they're really amped up and excited about uh live service games because they make a lot of money ladies and gentlemen we have a full team i think oh wow i have to admit i have no clue how any of this works oh don't worry we'll explain it you'll learn by trying an experience where often gets brought up um though i mean obviously it seems like it's changing now right those studios that were just listed are coming into favor more so publicly and naughty doggers are their reputations starting to diminish a bit yeah i think it's all because of the last of us the last of us sization of all of sony's other franchises that concern well but the thing is a lot of people like that um i mean they sell well yeah they so pretty well um yeah some of them sell really well um but i mean as for single-player games having a bad reputation they certainly don't uh they don't i mean it's accepted broadly i love the people i love people think it's good because it's one of the easiest movies to like [ __ ] on ever if you actually think about it for five seconds so yeah like bring it on honestly i have not seen it just because i was kind of so burned by tlj that even though i i've i at least enjoyed um i'm talking time travel [Music] i probably wasn't taking it apart too hard watched it but yeah of course i don't think i've been burned on ryan johnson so i didn't think knives out was bad but i also didn't really think about it so knives that is um very very i went in honestly thinking all right i can i can understand he was [ __ ] at star wars but when it's his own thing i imagine that this will be much better it wasn't i um i can't believe how much [ __ ] [ __ ] happens in that movie i i kind of i'm pretty sure i talked about a stream but i was close to making a video on it um i was just so blown away by how much like it for every reveal in that film there are like three things that make it so that reveal doesn't make any sense at all i think that is a film that is carried hardcore by its structure and its actors it's cast yeah and yet but it's often but i think that's a problem with a lot of films now the acting is really bad at least i find that it's been really bad it's usually the writing that lets it all down yes uh the artists involved in every other sector of production are usually coming through yeah you know it's uh they all polishing the turd as long as it's shiny no one will notice that it's a piece of [ __ ] that is my attempt to write the word scheme i don't know if that's even close to accurate mine is very abstract but you know i'm gonna get canceled for this one all right i won't cancel you unless i will this one's going to turn out so bad i'm so sorry you are forgiving my child i'm so sorry to any fans of this franchise watching [Laughter] did you draw a shadow no um do any story concepts ever freak you out eg my gf and i watched the trailer for gerald's game immediately said no because like that could happen gerald's game is good i like uh i think it's really cool that gerald's game got made what a specific concept that really could happen um seems unlikely but it gets a little crazy towards the end but uh i don't know i thought the majority of it was pretty intense i guess this might be a broad answer but i tend to find horror based in science fiction a lot more scary than horror based in like you know fantasy or supernatural elements because of the believability or like i guess the level of plausibility lended to um the the nation the [Music] i think i'm fine with both reaching top tier if they're executed well oh i i guess what i'm saying is innately i think i find the idea of an alien that's super scary to be um easier to scare me than like i don't know like a monster or something that's just me though i think conceptually the realistic ones like will get to me more but then if like something supernatural is very well executed that will normally give me the heebie jeebies a little i'm sorry i had to answer the door so i missed a punch unfortunately all right oh no that's that's gonna oh crap now for the hair so that they know this is woven i think uh ghost stories are usually a lot better told when there's a specific like a medium or somebody who's sensitive to it that way it kind of helps explain a way why there aren't uh supernatural events all the time if only certain people can kind of experience them it kind of helps a little bit i think plug that in a supernatural world or something yeah yeah something like that i want like a uh like a uh you know a ghost story haunted house where they actually leave the house and get the police and the police they're like oh [ __ ] there is a ghost there and then i shoot the ghost with guns then again why mana was like scary on an existential level and that was a ghost story well that's specifically what i was thinking about when you were saying it yeah that was uh that was scary more so for a i guess that's the thing is like the idea of boost the scary like monster is sometimes like i don't know it's less potent to me than some like big existential thing is liking blind manner a hot take yeah unfortunately it seems to be compared to liking the hill house or midnight mass for some reason ah i think fly matters i mean because of the ending sleep is the i think i'm at an adoration crew right here so yeah it's insanely good i wish people felt the way about blah blah my manner that they do about midnight mass midnight mass didn't get any emmy nominations though i got to the end of why manor was very satisfied by it and i was super satisfied for most of midnight mass got to the end and was like oh no exactly the same for us i think when we finished bly i don't know if you guys remember rags pranking there obviously but we were silent for a while we were just sort of sitting at the i [ __ ] love the shot that show ends on it's perfect [Music] silence often means one of two things either we're very impressed or very disappointed oh yeah yeah because we i think we would sign up for a while with midnight mass and then like yeah to be fair we were silent in the last like 10 minutes of the show except for like random like well i think when the ladies started digging a hole and i think you said really it was kind of confirmation to me it's like ah right i'm not the only one who's not thrilled that that was absolutely beyond there's already plenty of issues but the idea that right before everyone dies one of them is like wait a minute i could dig a hole dig a hole yeah [ __ ] you that's it's so weird because it's hard to categorize but that's when i feel insulted as an audience member well yeah you want me to believe that they none of them thought of that [ __ ] off and certainly not like it's one of the most basic things it really just seemed to me like the the vampire action was almost supposed to be season two but they're like oh we're not doing a season two so just wrap this up in one episode i think i just wanted a big climactic finale with like crazy stuff going on but the resolution that they were seeking is just not it's just not what you're gonna get with the scenario that you've set up um [Music] i what are these yeah and i i really like sheriff hassan and i wanted a better ending he was the best of the hassans that we know just such a good act [ __ ] yeah i'm looking forward to seeing him in the nude and mark hamill in the fall of the house of usher [ __ ] yeah gimme well yeah because for as disappointing as the ending of midnight mass was there's still so much before that that's so strong and so strong in the pride what are people's issues with the ending i thought it was great um everything and the night mass is ending with basically very very very rushed they don't help themselves at all the main crew in terms of getting themselves weapons staying alive in any way shape or form or the ideas they come up with for preventing the vampire you know when the vampires decide to stay in one building on the island and it's about to be daylight i can think of a really good idea that means we kill all the vampires easily let them go in just let them go in let them go in then set it on fire but instead they set it on fire before they go in get themselves all killed and the vampire still have plenty of options to be able to hide that's probably also don't know is like super in support of the theme that i think it was building i i think it's i think it's not at all yeah it's pretty disastrous my biggest problem with it was i i don't understand at which point the vampires decide okay i have my faculties back and i understand that i love the people my family don't want to kill kind of it's it's the the the show commits to presenting the vampires as being a little more nuanced than like mindless monsters but then in the finale they that turn into mindless yeah they double dip yeah i think um theo is a bit inconsistent yeah theo has a big rant about this in one of our recordings where he's just like frustrated that they clearly wanted to have the payoff of like night the living dead sort of [ __ ] with all the zombie vampire people are you know like that creepy shot of them all heading toward the end you know just like oh god and their their eyes shine and they're tearing things apart screaming everywhere it's like ah horror horror but then also the moment where they're all like oh man it's not nice to be evil oh these are my family members i don't want to kill them it's like wait what triggered that but what triggered that and what stopped the living dead rage that you were in two minutes ago it would be fair to say that the theme of the show was about addiction and the nature of like getting over a dick as a part of you that it needs getting over a dick an addiction but uh the first five episodes do that beautifully i think so that's that's kind of where i'm getting at is like what does it say that if the addiction is represented by the vampire and like the human in you is the good part that's that's worth striving to save what does it say about the nature of addiction and how to overcome it in reality when it ends with everybody deciding that the only real choice here is to die we often said that horribly riley's arc in completion was top-notch it was just yeah absolutely he comes out totally fine i think that the story we've got yeah really great because he gets saved from the finale i don't know it just seems like the theme is it almost pivots to like being together and happy or whatever and like you know coming together in camaraderie but it wasn't i don't know just seems like really confused thematically at the end when i thought it was pretty cohesive up until that point um surprisingly jeremy johns put aptly ryan johnson's movies aren't as smart as he thinks they are true yeah of the more traditional like mainstream five-minute movie review people i think jeremy johnson yeah i think so we're solid once i think it's just yeah when people say he's better than chris stock when i'm like no chris pokemon is not a thing she's nothing there like saying he's better than him is pointless like well he's better than not a thing at all it's like yeah i think so i find him just boring very boring yeah chris stuckman yeah this tuckman is empty and boring and vapid and he like he doesn't want to be why ms watching the lion king 2019. why ms your movie saul being overrated even though i think it's very very good i would actually i haven't even been that hyper-positive about it but i would actually opt for underrated if anything people don't talk about it all that much compared to how much better it is than most things and it's not got the hype it probably should have when it's reached a sixth season and the end of the whole series yeah i'm actually i haven't watched the most recent episode but x-ray girl and i are pretty much caught up on the rest of it and both of us were pretty impressed by just the the character work on that show is really amazing plot i don't think is as interesting as breaking bads because like it kind of how much is just hey set up for breaking bad how much i heard about something like arcane or squid game or stranger things season four versus better call stall better coastal comes up very little which is uh meanwhile people keep trying to say tlj is great years later like hey and that's that's failing the throne room fight i will say this i've recently rewatched all of breaking bad and um i think better call saul does make breaking bad better by just fleshing out some of the things that just couldn't get enough time on breaking bad mostly dealing with the salamancas and gus springs or which i think that's fair i think we got the worst season of breaking bad sorry which was the worst season of breaking bad um i don't know i guess the first one but i mean that's like setting up its premise i think that bring back is pretty strong i think i don't know anyone else am i wrong i'm not sure which one i think i think the ending is season four is like the best season finale ever where um have spoilers for breaking bad when when that bomb goes off in that place and says i won i i really yeah it's pretty fun um it was meant to be the end originally was it or hey i don't i don't think it really could have been because there's too many arcs that are left unresolved at the end of it it it does end the spring arc but i think there's there's plenty of solid material that they go over in season five and i think oh sure i mean i mean yeah i think it ends very strong and if you'd like a good example of ryan johnson doing stuff that does not suck a few episodes of breaking bad that are very good right just don't worry if he directs someone as talented as vince gilligan's story i think that uh yeah he might be on to something there uh they they end with saying thoughts on rlm's kenobi finale bad very bad nobody likes what they had to say about kenobi okay kenobi take was like it's so good that got taken out he had no ability to control the situation which was his plan yeah and so like and so i think we're meant to think because he got taken out that's partly why everything went to [ __ ] because he might have been able to stop it don't worry one day there will be in-depth coverage and we will go over in in detail why we [ __ ] hate that finale in a really nice way um we love it yeah something to do with gaming i think it's very interesting so halo infinite right uh recently it was found out that halo infinite it downloads the season 2 banner image about 1 000 to 2 000 times when you play the game which amounts to about one and one and a half gigs of data being wasted and the download stops when you're actually in a match but after you quit into the menu it just starts downloading again what what why are you going to invite the file size wow there's more content there was apparently like a new narrative event that was meant to be happening for the season and it's one cut scene of like a spartan just talking to you for a minute like just standing there talking to you it's like there's your story see you in six months i guess we're like because still we gotta wait until november for the next drop so like it's july gotta wait until november for something actually new meaningfully new i forget where exactly i heard this but i think someone was telling me that 343 has this thing where they're constantly hiring contractors because they want to keep people on for over 180 days or or maybe it's over a year or something like that but there's a time limit at which point if you're working for a microsoft studio for that long you need to be considered a full-time employee and need to be put on benefits so they have like a core team of like 15 people that are full-time employees and then they just keep on filtering in contractors and apparently that's one of the reasons why the development on infinite is such a cluster well you know like maybe it's it's probably more than that but what i mean is like the higher ups stay the same but all the people that are actually doing the work are constantly being rotated because they they want to contract people for as long as they can without actually having to hire them on and give them benefit packages i think you're right about the contractor but i guess it would be to get the numbers and i'm pretty sure 343 has like 300 400 employees but these games take like thousands of people at this point yeah maybe that's right remember there's a lot of contract work that goes into it so like you will have the development team but there will also be third party studios that handle assets and stuff like it's not it's not necessarily going to be only at naughty dog where the guy has to do the textures on like a magazine that's on the shelf or a set of and i can imagine that there is a problem at these studios of retaining talent because i'm pretty sure that dice for battlefield 2042 only like 80 percent of the people who worked on that game that was their first or i think it was 50 it was their first battlefield game um and the number of people who were left over from battlefield 1 was like 20 so you just keep losing people because they don't keep the industry or going to do indie stuff because they don't like the triple a space so it's like a huge reduction in the people who are meant to stay in long term and eventually become the leadership you know so it'll be interesting to see in like 10 years what the landscape looks like hell yeah we got to hit that that hardware peak where things can't get too much better than they are so that the budgets start normalizing a bit and they're like hey how about we shoot for these fidelity targets that are going to run great and we'll actually be able to pull this game off graphics now see the thing about the last of us part one is if you look in ellie's eyes now you can see that depth of pupils and that really reverses you in a very tangible way not when i'm playing the actual game definitely seeing that uh diminishing returns though like each new generation of console isn't like blow your socks off better than the last as much like the difference between like an xbox one and a uh xbox series x is like it's significant but not as significant as previous generations not by long shots yeah and i think that they that most console games especially would be far better if they were if they were continuing to shoot for the the absolute highest fidelity targets of xbox one and ps4 and then running them on the better hardware so it's like okay these games look the way that they looked in the trailers but they actually run at 60fps or above and you know it's fine people will prioritize graphics and like for whatever reason frame rate is something people aren't as receptive to and i would say even though there is diminishing returns on like the consoles in terms of how much better they can look games like we're still a long way from games do not look as good as like rendered for pre-rendered trailers they don't they're getting yeah they're not there yet so there's there's more room yeah i guess it's a
