we often think of historical plastic surgery sitting exclusively in the reconstructive realm why after all would anyone voluntarily undergo a surgical procedure in times when surgery was inherently more risky it's not as safe as I would like it to be obviously but it's there Jon Snow is generally considered the father of anesthesia in 1847 he describes it doing actually quite a fairly large number of plastic surgeries at this time it's super interesting that we have very similar procedures being used between our time periods but being used to achieve entirely opposite results
