before we start this video i just want to let all of you guys know i am in no way a baby food expert um in my very limited parenting experience i've learned a couple things that i think are worth sharing and this information is actually really interesting for both people who have kids but also for people who don't have kids and are always constantly looking for ways to be healthier at first baby food seemed so alien to me you know you'd see those packagings in the supermarket of chicken mashed with like mango and and weird fruit combinations and you're thinking i'm never going to eat that but as she started discovering different ingredients and trying different ingredients i actually realized that you could make baby food that both you and i could eat and most of the time it ends up being made with the healthiest ingredients in the healthiest proportions and that's the way we should be eating as well on a day-to-day basis so today i'm going to show you what she eats on a regular day and what i end up eating by de facto let's call it a baby meal plan for adults [Music] so baby food is really simple and that's what i love about it you start off by giving them singular ingredients on a day-to-day basis either through mashes or what they call baby lead weaning which is cooked pieces or even uncooked pieces of foods and chunks of food and you have them try single ingredients on a day to day basis from usually six months onwards and you just watch to see if they would have any adverse reactions or allergies to that ingredient once you've tried enough ingredients and kind of know what you're allowed to play with then you can start putting together combinations and that's when it starts getting really fun because then it becomes cooking there are obviously some ingredients that are not recommended at all for like allergen purposes or whatnot or maybe they're choking hazards or have a component that just doesn't digest well for kids yet so each time you give something just make sure first to kind of research about it really quickly but as a whole most ingredients are actually fair game from vegetables to fats to carbohydrates to grains to meats poultries you can basically use a little bit of everything at the end of the day what you're trying to do is build kind of like a perfect plate a nutritious plate that has all the macronutrients and micronutrients that your baby needs primarily fat protein and carbs it's actually a really simple way of eating um if you're someone like me who's trying to currently lose some fat it's actually a great way to kind of look at food because you try to represent one food group with just one ingredient so if you're trying to get fat protein and carbs in one plate basically looking at three different ingredients that you put in one plate and just come up with ways that are creative to make it tasty there are two main things that i've avoided completely um first one being sugar so any form of added sugar i don't give to her hopefully she gets enough sugars from naturally from the the fruits that we give her and the second one being salt or sodium you can find sodium naturally in ingredients so again i don't think we need to give them more salt in their diets because they already get it from other ingredients already and that is the challenging thing especially as an adult to eat things without salt it's really bland but you do get used to it and you do start appreciating the flavor and the purity of the ingredients the last thing you want to do every day in the morning is think of three dishes to feed your kid and three dishes to feed your family making you cook six dishes a day which is completely unrealistic in my opinion daddy don't play with food okay are you done it's funny how much you can learn from your baby every website or book tells you how important a routine is in terms of meals in terms of sleep in terms of everything it just helps your kid just have a more comfortable day but it also helps you structure your own day without a routine for adults you'll always feel like you're catching up to things you don't have time for yourself you don't have time for work you don't have time to do the chores at home so both having a routine for your kid and a routine for yourself that adapts your kid are really important and you'll see that it actually helps you in the long run so let's have our coffee and get this day going i love eating oats so let's start here for us you can just cook it down with your favorite milk of choice in the beginning for a baby you can just blend it and make your own little oat flour this can also be used to make pancakes and just make your own healthy baby cereal [Music] once cooked add whatever you enjoy bananas raspberries maybe some peanut butter just make it easier for them to eat in the beginning fruits are a great way to add micronutrients to your diet as well as sweetness to any dish without adding any sugars honey maple syrup or any other syrups and just like that you have the same dish prepared in a slightly different way [Music] simply apply this way of thinking to absolutely everything what do you as an adult enjoy eating and how can you make it baby safe breakfast is really easy because breakfast is one of those things that you are okay most of the time eating the same thing every day as long as it's quick convenient and just tasty enough i know a lot of people who are happily eating the same thing every day for breakfast so how does this apply to lunch or dinner this is where things kind of get a little more complicated because you expect a little more variety in your diet for those two meals again just always go back to that macro nutrient matrix your fats your proteins and your carbohydrates now how do i take a couple of ingredients from those categories and then roast boil sear or cook them in different ways and combine them in different ways it doesn't have to be complicated and this is what when i talk about healthy food this is what for me is really important and really core it has to be easy so you look at your main categories you take one to two ingredients per category and then you just figure out how to combine them you can literally boil everything together and then mash it together if you'd want to it's not usually the tastiest but you can sear for example your zucchini and you can mash your cauliflower and you can sear your chicken and then just steam your brown rice and there you have it you have a very simple meal so we have to do that every time take this chicken dish grab some chicken thighs drizzle in olive oil this goes into the oven and gets pan seared until cooked for vegetables i'm going to make a quick little let's call it a hummus chopped up sweet potatoes apples and chickpeas all go into steamer until soft before being blended together [Music] for dahlia i'm going to shred her chicken and serve this with some mangoes for myself i'll just salt the chicken before eating it and season the hummus a little bit as well like i mentioned if you don't have an oven you actually don't need one so you can just pan sear your chicken thighs in some extra virgin olive oil if you don't have a steamer not a problem either you can grate your sweet potatoes with some onions and cook this on low kind of like a roasty meat hash brown with some butter to serve you can just chop up your chicken sticks now these are thighs so they should be nice and soft and only do this if your child is used to eating chunks of food for some added fat you can always use some greek yogurt as a sauce with a sprinkling of parsley fresh herbs are an amazing addition to any baby diet this is perfectly adapted for both dahlia and for me and you'll be completely satisfied with this well cooked tasty chicken thigh [Music] can i help you [Music] i love combining vegetables because it's a great way to pack food with nutrients take this father-daughter salmon and corn chowder for instance start by removing your corn kernels putting that into a steamer with some cauliflower this will just really bind [Music] everything [Music] sear some ginger and onions until fragrant before adding your cubed up fish i'm using salmon here cook down before adding some paprika turmeric coconut milk and water spices are completely okay and you should definitely be using them [Music] blend your soft vegetables at this point with either some broth or some coconut milk or some hot water until like a soup like chowder consistency for my personal bowl i'm just gonna go ahead and season it with some fish sauce for dahlias just as is [Music] exactly what i am [Music] um here's another idea for like a shepherd's pie style dish chop up a bunch of vegetables onions celeriac sweet potatoes cauliflower whatever you want really and whatever you have around you that's the most important thing boil these vegetables for about 15 minutes until slightly tender but not completely mushy [Music] fry off your ground beef or even your ground turkey with some olive oil and some onions once cooked stir in some greek yogurt or khan fresh for ends i'll season the beef separately with salt and pepper blend your vegetables together season the adult version once again put your beef down first cover with puree top with grated cheese and place this in the oven until the cheese is just melted [Music] no matter what you're eating the possibilities are truly endless i mean if you have tomato sauce lying around throw that with some quinoa or some pasta or some brown rice if you want to make smoothie bowls for both yourself and your kid that's possible as well just throw in whatever frozen fruit that you might have lying around at the end of the day it comes down to eating with intent and being very conscious of what your baby is eating we obsess over the food that we give our children imagine if you applied that same obsession with the ingredients that you yourself eat hopefully that gave you some ideas of what you can do with baby food and hopefully you'll learn some lessons along the way i'll see you guys soon peace you
