on YouTube a lot of tech creators have incredible setups each and every one of those setups looks very professional very cinematic and expensive maybe you've been eyeing that expensive camera that they're using or you've been thinking about pimping up your bedroom to make it look more like theirs but here's the thing it is actually really simple there is nothing more impactful on your videos look than lighting that's why in this video I'm going to break down how to create a look like this by using only three lights and the beauty is that this will work whether you're using an expensive camera or on an iPhone before we do any of that let me give you a quick tour of what this space looks like without the lighting welcome to a behind the scenes look of my studio although this is just a tiny corner of the studio space that I'm in it's about three meters by three meters as you can see it's very simple I just have a desk and the background with a plant a silver play button and a lamp right there that is it so if you use a small space as well then this setup will definitely also work for you now that I have exposed most of my secrets it's time to expose the last secret which is how to create something like this let me show you how to do this now what a lot of Pros do which is of course what we will be doing then as well is to start in a completely dark room or as close as possible so switch off your lights close the curtains and switch off any screens that you have in the room are you ready three two one the first night that we absolutely need is a key light the key light is the main weight there we go the key light is the main source of light that we're going to be using to light ourselves for a key light you need three things you need a studio light a soft box and a stand which can be a regular stand or a c-stand it is totally up to you what kind of Studio light you want to use for your setup my personal favorite is the aputure 120d Mark II that I've paired with the light Dome SE this light is very high quality which is why it's one of my favorites but it is a little bit more on the expensive side so if you're looking for more of a budget-friendly Studio light then I would recommend for example the MRN 100d or 60D if you're filming in a smaller space then I would recommend looking into the aputure mini instead of the aperture SE because it is a lot smaller light dome but still really great and the reason why you want to use a light Dome is because it diffuses the light and it makes the light look a lot softer right now I'm being lit By the 120d Mark II and the light Dome SE now it comes with a remote so this is just one strength but if if you want you can turn it down or up depending on the look that you want to go for now this is what the Amarin 100d looks like if you want a full comparison video make sure to comment yes below the video links to all of the lights that I'm using and all of the accessories the light domes everything that I'm using in this video can be found in the description if you want to pick any of these up besides these lights that I'm mentioning in this video you can also obviously use other brands or for example a panel light instead of a cop or cob light not entirely sure what the right pronunciation is just a disclaimer this video is not sponsored by aperture it's not sponsored by Ameren by aperture it is just my own initiative to make this video but I do want to give them a little shout out because everything I use is from them it's a great company their lights are really reliable and also the people that work there are just really lovely that being said I did reach out to them to ask if I could give a light away and they said yes so definitely keep watching because somewhere in this video we will be giving a light away at the beginning of the video I mentioned that the placement of your light is going to make a difference in how your video looks the most cinematic way to light yourself is in a 45 degree angle so you'll get this triangle also known as the Rembrandt triangle under your eye however I noticed that when I place my light in a 45 degree angle that I was actually accentuating parts of my face that I didn't want it to accentuate such as pimples or like little wrinkles or something and I spoke about this with some of my female Creator friends and they all felt the same way this doesn't mean that as a woman you cannot use it at a 45 degree angle it will still look great it is just personal preference for the ladies out there that feel the same way as me what I do is I just put the light directly at me so it lights my face evenly if you're wearing glasses I recommend to put the light a little bit further away so not 45 but maybe around 90 degrees so you don't get that glance in your glasses this will result in more Shadows on your face and this part of your face being a lot darker so for that reason I would recommend to also use a fill light at a lower brightness than your key light to light up this part of your face now that our key light is ready to go it is time to spice up the rest of this setup and we're going to do that by using these tube lights from Amarin now I have been bugging aperture for years to get some tube lights because I really wanted to get some good quality tube lights and they're finally here yay Link in the description now I'm using two different kinds this is the t2c and this is the t4c as you can see this one is a lot longer obviously it would have been better to have two of the same tube lights but you gotta work with what you got right now if you're interested in even smaller tube light then I can definitely recommend the aperture Mt Pro they recently released this one it has magnets on the back it comes with a little tripod honestly the uses for such an LED light are endless I'm gonna say that again honestly the use for such a light maybe you don't expect it in case you're not really familiar with cheap light speed plus b possibilities of using such a light are endless I told my editor that if I'm going to mess up again then we'll just keep it in I'm regretting it right now but we're we're keeping it in anyway as I was saying the uses for such a light are endless you can use it as a fill light or as a practical or product photography or for videography and the best part is because it is so small it is also really good for run and gun shooting however for this setup we're going to be sticking to the amaran tubes the most interesting feature about the t2c is that you can win one now if you want to win one go to the comment section and type Gizmo then also make sure that you go over to Instagram and follow aperture Europe and Lila from YouTube and I will be picking one lucky winner to get one of these amazing tube lights now what we're going to do with these lights is we're just going to stick them in the corner this is a little bit embarrassing because I will literally just put them against the wall and that is it is this professional no does it work yes the best part about using Amarin and aperture lights is that you can link them all together in the sidus link app so if you decide to go with the 120d Mark II from aperture and you have a bridge or you're using the Ameren 100d as your key light and you're using these two tube lights you can all connect them in the app you can create a scene which basically just means that all you have to do open the app turn on the lights and you're ready to start shooting now for this video I chose purple and pink but you can obviously use any kind of color that you want a great tip here is to use contrasting colors you've probably seen a lot of people on YouTube use the famous teal and orange look and that is because it just works what I also like to do in addition to this lighting setup which obviously is a bonus for this video is I like to turn on this light right here this is an IKEA lamp which is considered a practical in terms of lighting and inside that lamp I have an aperture b7c I can easily turn that on using the situs link app and then the last thing that I do is behind this cabinet I have a Philips hue light light strip I made a shopping list to make it easier for you so you can find it in the description if you're interested in any of these lights now if you're unsure about what studio lights to get for your space then I really recommend you to check this review right here where I talk about very tiny but powerful studio lights [Music]
