while shooters that we loaders out their fortune cookie 45 LLC coming to you from the hot land zone and today we powder-coated a whole bunch of bullets and what we're doing is we're testing powder coats the blue ones up there are Eastwood Ford light blue and there in the middle that kind of raspberry color bronzy color is actually candy raspberry by eastwood and then on the left there is the Eastwood Vermillion now on the right for a control is Harbor Freight yellow now let's go ahead and look at some of the procedures to get these powder coated and then we're going to go ahead and do an evaluation on each one of these but this video is dedicated to Elvis ammo because he's the one that steered us on to these fine Eastwood powder coating powders and I'm really going to enjoy powder coating these with our newly cast case 240 grain so my wad cutter bullets and lead 240 grain round nose bullets now as you know this is just a twenty dollar black & decker toaster oven purchase from Walmart and we've got preheated for 400 degrees set it for 20 minutes and it's that easy now what will happen is the temperature will melt the powder coat Haruko will evenly spread and cover and we'll have powder coated 44 spouts a mile wide cutter Keith bullet now to do a color change its reach Isles plate we simply take a rag like this and we just go ahead and wipe out the old powder from the bowl catch it on this aluminum foil and you can see that the inside of the lid also has the powder on there so watch how this cleans up that's all you have to do now to do a color change its reach I'll displays we simply take a rag like this and we just go ahead and wipe out the old powder from the bowl catch it on this aluminum foil and you can see that the inside of the lid also has the powder on there so watch how this cleans up that's all you have to do then the powder can be poured back into the bottle it gives you very handy ziploc heavy plastic bags to store the powder in I went ahead and poured the Eastwood light Ford blew into the vibratory tumble [Applause] and we're going to shape this basket to get rid of loose powder because if we don't do that and you wind up with clumps then you're going to have some uneven areas so a little bit of vertical shaking is what you want there is if solely is pop that right into the oven no need to show you how that's done besides this hot and let's not worry about a camera while we're doing that so shooters and real odors I'm going to go ahead and take the next batch out of the oven we're going to plop it right into this water quench as you see just pop it in and then a basket can go back into the oven to draw there was some clumping like you see here but it separates readily and if you got real stubborn one you slip a little screwdriver in there and give a little twist if it comes right apart like that yep we all commit so once again to change colors you simply wipe out the inside of the bowl with a good rag so next let's try this Eastwood it's called candy raspberry so this is the Harbor Freight yellow this is our kaya bar control so let's go ahead just take random three bullets and come over here and really look at them closely so looking at this get down focus come on okay focus there's a little bit of blotchiness to them a little bit of onion unevenness the little thick areas there but it's fully coated here's the second one even decoded now the coverage is not perfect so you don't get that completely golden color all the way across but that's okay and then here's one it's got a little bit of a clear area there where the bullets are rubbing together but there's powder coat there all right so that gives you a baseline with Harbor Freight yellow now bear in mind the Harbor Freight red does a better job in this so next let's take some of those round nose bullets with the forward light blue we just take three random bullets of that and come over here and evaluate them now notice there are some real light areas where the bullets were touching and caused a little bit of degrading of the particle but that's not bad we like that here's the second one and once again not there's there's a clear area there that might have been where it bullets were touching or maybe it was touching the basket but overall give it a chance it'll coat nicely and again a very light area where where the bullets are touching but still that's pretty darn good so I appreciate the recommendation for førde light blue from Elvis amyl it's a good powder I'm gonna like that and here's our usual pound test so you see that that actually pound it off nicely and there's no powder shearing off the side the little blemishes there are actually caused by the basket where the powder coat actually pulls some old some of the older powder coat that was on the on the basket got pulled off down on to this bullet but you see it pounded off it pounded down smooth there but you see the powder coat stayed on so this is something we always do to make sure we got good bonding of the pocket come all the candy raspberry and you know it's something very interesting I must have run the tumbler the vibratory tumbler for a shorter time on this one on these bulls than I did here because if you notice that actually has a little more of a raspberry color then this one will be here so with that particular powder I'm going to have to run the vibratory tumbler a little bit longer let's go ahead and pick out three random bullets from here and look at them yeah it's kind of blotchy is one of the metallic colors and I was hoping that I'll be able you have real nice metallic color there but yes it's not bad there's one here's two little blotchy but again that'll work just fine and then here's the third one aha there's a light area where the bullets are rubbing together so I guess if you don't want that see the loo right there if you don't want that then you're gonna have to stand them all under under bases this kind of thing I hate doing that take so much time now you'll notice the pound test with the candy raspberry and so the powder did not share off the sides and it didn't crush off the top so it passed the pound test of the Vermillion and look at this that's a little disappointing now we'll go ahead and get to look at them but we'll take three random ones there so turned out that one of every 20 had this happened and I think what happened here was when this came out of the oven there were some clumps that were big they had maybe six or seven bullets in clumps and after I threw it into a cold water the clumps were still there and so we had to break those apart but what happened with this one was that the clumps were such that there was a little meniscus or what he call a little a little bit of uh of a joining of powder that I didn't quite I didn't quite shake off the powder well so with the Vermillion you got shake more because you can't have that because what happens when you get those big clumps and it's still hot it actually pulls the powder coat off so this is a reject bullet I'm going to have to find all those are like that and reject them but the ones that didn't get that you see it's not too bad it's a little bit thick not too bad that's very acceptable powder coating there but this one is not acceptable but I think that's the fault of the we got now learn what it takes to get this to work and here's the third one now you see a little bit there because it was probably touching the basket and there too so the Vermillion is a little bit more sensitive to that kind of thing you see the base a little bit pulled off but here's the pound test for the Vermillion and you see it really did do well there except that well that's the bottom that's all then that's actually concrete they got jammed and inner there while I pondered this down it passed the palm test really so with all of the powder coats there's a little bit of a learning curve a little bit of a preference the yellow you see I've used that before so I kind of know what it takes and that might be one of the reasons why that came out so nice actually the vermilion agha learned the candy raspberry probably isn't what we want to use but if if you like that kind of color is fine but again you can see the difference in color there's the same powder so get a little more coating and you'll get that and then the Ford light blue that's a canvas that's really a good powder if I could only have two powders I would get the Ford light blue from Eastwood now we get the Harbor Freight red and then the yellow is not bad either but the red is better so if I only have two powders those will be two but who knows this for millions once I get that going not that's pretty nice powder don't you think just got watchog when it's still hot you're going to actually pull the powder off once you once it's cool under you can't pound it off bye for now
