because finally gideon and son kevin sanjaya saw gamolio have beat the beaten finalists from last year the pair they've lost to in the group stage kimura and sonoda in fact they were 11 19 down in the second game made it very close but they still lost it 21-18 but won the decide up 21-16 in an hour and three minutes in the second of the semi-finals liu cheng and zhang nang beat the three-time former champions bowl and morgenson of denmark they had beaten them in the group the day before and they beat them once again yesterday 21-17 21-16 in 52 minutes so it's set up a dream final it is the reigning world champions against the world number ones we can't really ask for any better could we so the indonesian world number ones today attempting to break the record of six super series titles in men's doubles in a calendar year because they're in their ninth final and they've already won six and they are kevin sunday he's a great character on court and here the world champions [Music] so the players ready to come on to court just being wish good luck by shi uchi let's join our mc once again to get the players on to court this is the dubai world super series men's doubles final let's welcome the players first up the number one seeds from indonesia marcus fernandi the world number ones the number one seeds appearing today in an incredible ninth super series tournament final this year and let's hear it for their opponents from china the reigning world champions and number four seeds [Applause] the world champions in fact the world title was their very first tournament title together as a pair [Music] since that gold medal in glasgow they have won the denmark premier super series and these two chinese players three years ago faced each other in the final of the super series finals in the mixed doubles discipline when jang man actually won the title with zhaowan lay [Music] so the world champions from china in the red kit thank you winning all of their matches to get through to today's final not so with gideon and gamolio because they lost last thursday to the finalists from last year so eric kurtz from denmark is for this one you receive who will receive well there had been two pairs previously to 2017 who have contested seven men's doubles super series finals in a year but this is a new record for marcus bernardi gideon the 26 year old from jakarta and his partner kevin sanjaya 22 years of age because not only have they won six super serious titles today they're appearing in their ninth final they are enjoying their 24th week in total as world number ones second appearance at the super series finals last year they were third in the group this year they have been totally dominant as far as super series are concerned but they did have that blip on thursday this year in the super series finals against kamura and sonoda but they got revenge yesterday when they won in three thrilling games it looked at one stage as if they were going to come back and win in two games but it did go for full distance [Applause] well he's making his third appearance here and obviously it's the second final because as i was telling you he played against his partner in the mixed doubles final three years ago then he was playing with bao eason he's 25 years of age and though he will turn 26 next month and he'll turn 26 on the same day that victor axelson has his birthday is appearing in his sixth final his first men's doubles he's been in five mixed doubles of finals winning the title at the super series finals three times so they have won all of their matches they did drop a game in their very first match which was against the winners of the french open league way and lee yang on chinese taipei two straight games against the three-time former champions bow and bobbinson in the semi-final yesterday and this will be the fourth meeting between the two pairs of the previous three meetings well the indonesians have the advantage but the last time they met was in the final of the denmark open the chinese player actually had a match point two match points in that second game to win it in two straight but it went the full distance as you saw eric curtis the umpire and david wong the service judge and it's a bit of a milestone today for zhang nang because he personally is contesting his 70th career final that's not only super series that's all tournaments including world championships and olympic games a 70th final today ladies and gentlemen on my right liu chang and zangnan china and on my left marcus finale pirion kevin sanchez super muglio indonesia [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so the world champions nearest to us the world number ones gideon now if you haven't seen such before he is the most dynamic exciting explosive and unpredictable player and he's great to watch over [Applause] one all [Applause] oh [Music] [Applause] [Applause] a little bit subdued i know we've only had three points team but he looks certainly looks fired up today yeah he came out in the semifinal yesterday in a fantastic playing moved uh kevin sukamuro three one i know that we've seen that his partner marcus uh gideon he's some kind of strapping on his neck you know some small injury that would have been the case for [Applause] it was a fantastic match between tsukumuru really really entertaining on the other hand and liu chang they've been quite convincing throughout this tournament and we have them as uh small favorites in this match here they uh i think he really was out to stamp his mark in denmark over he was fed up with um losing to these two indonesian players and he really played a great match here the pain conditions are a little bit slow i think that he could favor uh the chinese because i think lucha he doesn't care whether it's slow or fast or whatever he just thinks about flooring that shovel yes [Applause] sir flat drive over the nets from gideon [Applause] [Music] on the other hand it could also give the indonesians a better defense than what we normally see they have that was what happened yesterday against the kimura and sonora they played a very very defensive uh tactic in later part of second game and that puzzled the japanese pair [Applause] that's what we see here not really settled in yet five three well no pair from china has ever won the men's doubles title at the super series finals i suppose either way whichever pair wins there's going to be another piece of history either a second super series title of the year for the indonesians or first ever pair from china and then this doubles title here four five [Applause] [Music] [Applause] five oh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] indonesian coach [Applause] six five [Music] and starting on the presumably better side of the court to replace a little bit with the drift that's an easier time of um killing it wait that's that's what also happens sometimes from kevin zuckerman seven absolutely ridiculous shot occurred but he's not bothered because he knows that the next three shot he can make winners [Applause] yeah good work by gideon [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and that's the second time that um super mario have shadowed gideon and opened up the left side of the court totally okay thank you [Applause] [Music] eight seven [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] service over [Applause] nine eight [Applause] isn't it [Applause] very short rallies [Applause] encounters marcus gideon in a flat game exchange with gangnam right now and starting from a little above the tape [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it's gotta be the longest valley of the match so far the thing oh he's missed it there was a nice idea from [Applause] yes dude it was the longest rally [Applause] [Applause] i'm talking about long rallies 35 shots but yesterday when they played the kamura they played over a rally with over 100 shots and that's the longest rally gideon and super mario has ever played in their life i'm positive about that i don't doubt you [Applause] today that equals the number of finals that christina pedersen has contested at super series finals but it's not the record how you lay contested seven finals it's going right [Applause] [Applause] oh that's perfect [Applause] was that just that he read the return of serve or wasn't it a good enough return of service yeah probably a little bit of both [Music] [Applause] really really eager both of the indonesian players to get forward to the net and put pressure on their opponents [Applause] five straight points [Applause] six straight points what on earth has happened yeah the chinese pair is not playing good defense right now they either live way too high so that they leave too much time for the smasher on the indonesian side or the lift way too short none of that is working at the moment 11 15. [Applause] neck board on the return of serve [Applause] could do nothing about it [Applause] [Music] they're doing a really good job of gideon and super mario and staying close on the front court close to the next gives them a lot of opportunity in their defense service era service over first of the match i think 17. [Applause] [Music] oh my goodness yeah it was the first interception from this man that really made the difference in the rally [Applause] foreign service over 13 18. [Applause] [Music] oh [Applause] his partner in the back of the head with that attempted block block cross court 1913. [Applause] but also really really good interception by uh marcus gideon i think he's improved his front court game like his gideon yeah i do too 14 19. [Applause] broken strings in the rackets of blue chain [Applause] and when the strings break it's very difficult to control the shot [Applause] and it's game point opportunities for the current world number ones [Applause] [Music] oh good angle oh he's dropped his racket he's picked it up [Applause] [Laughter] as a second player today we've seen just completely lose hold of the racket 15 20. look at that the presence of mine to keep an eye on the racket and on his opponents well two game points have come and gone [Music] [Applause] oh my goodness a moment of magic from south carolina to close out the opening game in favor of the number one seeds 21-16 for the opening game 17 minutes of play um from 9 10 now well the indonesians just dominated [Laughter] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] okay [Music] [Applause] second [Applause] so what can the world champions do in response to that opening game [Applause] one [Applause] [Applause] so to answer my question what can they do what should they do first of all they need to move their defense forward and then they have to seek the attack a bit more so they're not that defensive and they've been beaten in the flat game by the indonesians now they can um they can play the backcourt a little bit more freely i don't know if that's affected them but they played a very very short defense and they're still doing it lifting that high to marcus gideon it's not in my opinion a good idea oh you missed that one [Music] no no he landed [Applause] oh great shot very quick on that third chart kevin superman man can't get it three one not below the tape [Applause] four one [Applause] need to be careful here because it seems to me as if the indonesians are growing in confidence all the time yeah look at that [Applause] they're continuing the great form from yesterday [Music] [Applause] is not at all having a good day [Applause] two six [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] you see he still can't get the defense long enough for liu he was lucky here that um gideon he missed it [Music] [Applause] had that been the opposite um position and that would have been kevin sukamari intercepting would have been a point for the indonesians no doubt about that [Applause] four six [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so quick he didn't even play backhand he played a sort of round the headshot and again bad choice that one he's too far below the tape blue chunk he cannot play the shot like that when uh super mario and gideon are in a playing mood like they've been the last two days got to take the medicine and lift it [Applause] good rally for the chinese there [Applause] five seven [Applause] probably the return from super mario will go to liu chang he's gotta be ready [Applause] that's fantastic fantastic saved by uh [Applause] that one [Applause] six seven five for the last six points now charlie's bad [Applause] is over [Applause] [Applause] [Music] to mop up the perspiration to use their feet [Applause] no wonder he shakes his head [Applause] nine six [Applause] [Music] [Applause] that's where he's strong when he can use his power seven nine [Applause] [Applause] good serve yeah i like the positioning of that smash saw that super mario was weighted with the backhand defense down his forehand side [Applause] placement [Applause] [Applause] eight [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thought process as well three points the advantage here in the second game [Laughter] foreign [Applause] you know i find it quite amazing that only twice previously in the history of the super series finals the pair maintenance doubles player [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the first year that the finals were staged here in dubai so if this indonesian power were to win would only be the third time in history the number ones at the end of the year win the men's doubles title [Applause] twelve [Applause] well that was a great shot from zhang yang but sukamalia wasn't even watching the shot and he's still got his racket to it look he's gone past him look at that just amazing that's great spatial awareness [Applause] [Applause] 13 9. [Applause] thank you [Applause] [Applause] well i think it requires this man to take charge here go for the interceptions second male player in history [Music] [Applause] 14 10. [Applause] service over 11 14. [Applause] yes [Applause] [Applause] well there was desperation defense early on in that rally from the chinese pair [Applause] but in the end they just couldn't deal with this sort of reaction from sulkamalia end of the rally drops his racket that was a nice change of pace yeah and they've played perfect nights so far gideon and uh [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 12 16. [Applause] [Applause] by the service judge david wong [Applause] 17 12. and he's full for above the waist there i simply don't see it myself what a fantastic defense there from [Applause] [Music] [Applause] leo if they want to win this um [Applause] well what do you do against [Applause] that makes his smashes um vulnerable sometimes we've seen uh sukamuri just crouched down and tried to smash again on a smash from from the very first double service line that's totally amazing 14 18. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] what happened the last time he served he got folded on a high flick yeah what did he do here he flicked again just a little bit better that's absolutely amazing that's a true olympic champion i am [Applause] [Music] wow and get in i think he was aware that his partner's racket had broken i don't know if the communication was verbal that super mario he's just going forward to the net isn't he because he knew he can't go to the back with broken strings [Applause] well celebrations i hope not tonight a little bit they still need another two points [Applause] but now they only need the one five match point opportunities to re-write the record books [Music] have achieved six super series titles this year no men's doubles pair has ever achieved seven [Applause] [Music] [Applause] have now broken the record a seventh super series title of the year in their ninth final well it has been the most amazing year for marcus finale gideon and kevin sanjaya [Music] defeating the world champions in today's final and defeating them in style 21 16 21-15 in 38 minutes that's won by marcos penalty gideon kevin sanjaya sugarbury 21 16 21 15. well that really is amazing seven super series titles in a year leon day a new young son won six in 2015 after contesting seven finals to contest nine is remarkable in itself but to win seven of the thirteen super series titles on offer in a calendar year is well better than outstanding [Music] well they must be absolutely elated and as far as the new champions are concerned let's go courtside to hear their thoughts let's get a word with the dubai world super series men's doubles champions marcus fernandi and kevin sanchez it's been a tough week for you boys isn't it i mean marcus battling a neck injury some incredible matches too can you believe you are the dubai world super series champions and marcus [Applause] indonesia uh he said yes it's a great feeling to be champions here uh this is their seventh title this year and he wants to thank all the indonesian supporters here who have come here and they have given them great support and what difference does this incredible indonesian support make kevin yeah foreign definitely the great support helps them to lift their game and it's been an extra ordinary support that they've received and they wouldn't have made it this far if not for them so thank you very much for the translation let's hear it for our champions marcus finale gideon joe [Applause] well obviously very happy with their performance and so they should be it has been an incredible year well i can remember in 2011 one see lee and you young in the women's doubles were pretty dominant but i think this performance in a calendar year 2017 by marcus from aldi gideon and kevin sanjaya is even better than that so as far as the indonesians are concerned only the third pair in super series finals history to win the title here when finishing the year number one [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] well a remarkable pair with a remarkable year marcus finale given in and kevin sanjaya super mario a seventh super series title in one calendar year [Music] ladies and gentlemen the ceremony for the dubai world super series finals 2017 men's doubles will now please welcome the players for the men's doubles presentation [Music] director of the hamdan sports complex presenting metlife trophies theodore alexandrescu general manager metlife golf and presenting the trophies his excellency dawad alhaji president of the united arab emirates badminton and table tennis association and ali al-fanhani board member of the united arab emirates badminton and table tennis association ladies and gentlemen the runners-up from china dollars from indonesia marcus fernandi gideon and kevin [Music] winners of the all england the india malaysia japan china hong kong and now the super series finals as well a seventh title at super series level in one calendar year [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] ladies and gentlemen your dubai world super series finals 2017 men's doubles champions marcus finale gideon kevin sanjaya kamal joe [Music] is ladies and gentlemen that concludes the ceremony for the dubai world super series finals 2017 men's doubles please congratulate our finalists well it's the quickest final we've had so far but it was probably the most explosive and dynamic and exciting performance that we've seen so far but so often we are treated to that from marcus bonaldi gideon and kevin sanjaya saw gamolio just 39 minutes to beat the reigning world champions they really are one of the most exciting pairs i've ever seen well with the men's doubles concluded next up is women's doubles it's an all-japanese affair and the only final feature both the number one and two seeds and the only final to feature the winners of the two groups that we had at the group stage we've got yuki fukushima and sayaka herota the world championship silver medalist up against the number one seeds tanaka and yoni molto so as far as the semi-finals were concerned with these two japanese pairs well it was fukushima and hirorota the world championship silver medalists who played first and they were up against the winners of the korean super series one yash young and uco han they only needed two games in fact they've won all of their matches in two straight games tanaka and yoni moto well they beat the former champions the 2013 winners yule and pedersen also in two straight games but they have one or two problems closing out each games they were 16-7 up before winning it 21-19 and 19-11 up before winning the second game 21-19 as well so in all japanese women's doubles final and it's only the second time in the history of the super series finals that we've had the same two same nations in the final of the women's doubles final first time that it's been an all japanese affair tanaka and koharu yonimoto the number one seeds up against yuki fukushima and sayakah and obviously if the number one seeds win then we've had four finals with the number one since winning all
