Drummer Reacts To - Jess Bowen Hears Rage Against The Machine For The First Time

I'm nervous I don't think I could I'm not that type of drummer that could just hear a song and play it all right this is the drummer Jess playing and hearing Rage Against the Machine for first time you never heard that before I've never heard that song that is mindblowing to me oh my God I can't believe again oh my God this really going to put me in my place drummers do not hate me for this well that sounded good my name is Jess Bowen and I'm the drummer of a band called The Somerset and uh on top of that I also play with some other artists some friends of mine uh an artist named Jax lights 303 Alice glass uh and some other people but I just have fun on the drums of those you I like to whip my hair back and forth and I have a good time so um yeah I'm I'm just excited to be here any styles of music or any type of music that let me know where you're watching this from I'd love to hear from you yes absolutely like anything that involves breakdowns with double bass or like metal like anything super heavy I'd be scared for that that is legit you've seen the the format that we do with uh giving drummers songs they haven't heard yes that's right yeah what do you think about the format I mean I love it I think it's like the second that I saw the videos of like Chad Smith that's a good one by the way the one who did Mr bright side Mega Death that one is too oh my God they were amazing I just like I'm not I I I'm nervous I don't think I could I'm not that type of drummer that could just hear a song and play it well you're going to do great because every drummer that's come through I'd say that's a pretty common response they usually end up having a blast by the end okay all up okay I got a problem with this I feel violated they all did well too how it works is we've taken the drums out so you have total freedom to play whatever you want um and then at the end of the video once you've come up with your own part and done your final performance we'll play you the original and you can see how close or how different your version was oh this is going to be fun such a good song do I have any fans of rage against a machine do you think she really has actually never heard this before is it possible once again this is cool like the song hits so hard the this is what she's actually listening to right [Music] here such a fun song to play oh my God I just have to ask authentic than that yeah honestly I I feel like I got to just that that's the one take I'm just going to stick with it I I I don't think I can do better I mean I probably could if I listened multiple times but as a one take for the purpose of this video there's my one take I love it I also heard uh so you're on tour with Mike SLE right now yes who's a good friend of dro and I heard he was uh contributing to some of the the stress and paranoia doing this so blown away he was when I told him I was going to do this he was just like oh yeah no no I I wouldn't do it I was going to do it I was like yeah well may should I not do it maybe I shouldn't do it no so this is a PSA to Mike the next time he's back here uh we're going to give him some Dream Theater or something and uh oh my please this guy would haveed up all of our songs so you listened to that once you played through it what are some things that you noticed that you tried to pick up on in that take man I was trying to follow those guitars just with those like accents like stuff like that and then I really just couldn't I I didn't know where things were going I was like where's this is this the verse is this the is this the like I could kind of I felt where the chuses were but I was struggling a little bit with finding the different parts of where I would normally know to you know maybe play on the crash or play cloth highe hat bring the Dynamics down or come back up so I mean the song is awesome again I'm very interested to know who it is is it really crazy that I don't know this song it is uh yeah pretty pretty crazy let me just give you the the YouTube view count on this song oh my God this really going to put me in my place the music video has 77 million views oh my gosh yeah it's Brad wil on drums okay are you familiar with Brad I I don't think I am I'm so sorry again you learn something new every day I am learning and again drummers do not hate me for this oh the the song is called Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine okay it's Rage Against the Machine yeah okay um Brad on drums uh you want to hear the original with the the drums in there yes obviously it's going to be amazing do it is oh [Music] okay didn't see it going into that language can't remember did I I did a little bit tiny bit I was like I've been off on this whole thing but maybe that one was right it's a lot more straightforward like just hearing it it's just very straightforward y I did way too I was trying to make it way too complicated this ride thing is kind of tripping me out I I never would have thought
