hey guys my name is Sam crack and I solemnly swear to drive our busted Salvage auction Ferrari at one point in this video even though it smokes from the engine bay after startup and its main electrical fault hasn't been rectified there is a little bit of good news I exchanged emails with the previous owner of the Ferrari and I can replicate this car's main problem pretty much 100% it runs rough again the bad news though I have little clue on how to solve this problem if you're new to the Ferrari project this is a car that I bought from salvage auction about a thousand miles away from me sight unseen it has what I would consider pretty minor undercarriage damage and a strange electrical issue when you buy a car from salvage auction with some sort of physical damage things always seem straightforward you got a dent in a panel you fix the dent but electrical on a Ferrari well I had no clue where to start but I've made some progress nine times out of ten when I get a car from salvage auction the battery is dead that's likely to the car sitting at auction for several months before being auctioned off the first time I saw the Ferrari in person was when it was driven effortlessly off its trailer directly into my garage the Ferraris battery was indeed dead but the car was able to be started because the transporters hooked up a battery jumper box the next morning after the oil overfill Fiasco I replaced a dead battery with the new one I started it up and it sounded great moved it outside for a little cleaning then went to start it back up and it sounded terrible and it wouldn't move under its own power we're in first gear come on let's go Oh now there's no power this Ferrari is exhibiting very similar behavior to any other car I've worked with that has a bad or loose ground connection one minute things are working perfectly in the next every light is on on the dashboard and it's freaking out but we have a very clear pattern here this car starts and runs perfectly along with all of its other systems the first and only the first time after hooking up the battery just fix up all my connections on the battery there was one wire that was loose on the ground let's see what this says specifically this screen right here see how that says check okay that means when I go to start this car up listen it purrs it runs perfectly and when I go and I put it in reverse oh let's try that again there it goes goes into reverse and the car moves come on it couldn't be that easy right with that immobilizer I'll put the key back in the ignition this is literally seconds after shutting it off and look it no longer says check okay has that ASR light with a slash through it that means when I go to start at watch it runs rough again now if we freeze the frame here we can see all the lights on the dashboard in the bottom left we've got the check engine light when I scan that I only get one co2 p zero six zero zero which according to Ferrari means that the engine computers aren't communicating properly with the engine that's probably why it misfires and sounds really rough second light the ASR with the slash through it ASR is basically your traction control the other important light here on the right side is your f1 transmission light telling you you've got a fault there now all three of these systems work together so it makes sense that all three of these lights are on at the same time what doesn't make sense is why this car only works once after the battery is hooked up now where the undercarriage damages is actually the same exact place that the battery sits and where a lot of your major wiring harnesses are I spent several hours inspecting this area now the battery terminals look to be in pretty poor condition and the wiring was a little loose I bought brand new battery terminals installed those and snugged everything up I even went and bought a spare battery to make sure my battery wasn't causing the issue but the problems still remain experiencing all this I asked the previous owner after the car was involved in its accident did it have any mechanical issues and the answer was no the car was totaled out specifically for that undercarriage damaged and the car still started up in ran fine even after the accident that's an important tidbit of information because it solidifies my findings of nothing physically wrong with something in the wiring department at auction cars are jump-started all the time and like I told you earlier this car was jump-started when it was brought off the trailer and if you look online jump-starting a Ferrari is apparently a big no-no and can really mess with the electrical system if I had to take a wild guess I think we have a problem with our engine control modules when the battery is disconnected from this car it erases all the temporary parameters that are in these modules and when you hook the battery back up car needs to be driven so that all these parameters are recalibrated could you imagine if just driving this car fixes our problems it'll be the most incredible feeling ever so let's give it a shot but before we do we have to throw on a new set of wheels and tires because our original ones are damaged and tidy up the engine bay [Music] [Applause] [Music] we've got the Verde British racing 360 park next to the Verde British racing f250 that's right I bought this car specifically to match no I didn't at all so if we know that this car will start every time the first time the batteries hooked up why don't we just try and drive it that's exactly what we're gonna do but we're gonna let this car idle for a few minutes you see I read a support article online that said that after the battery has been pulled in these cars it resets all the ECU's and they need time to adapt now I've heard that a million times on a different a bunch of different makes and models is it true for this one well we're gonna find out but maybe that's been our problem all along I've only been starting it for a few seconds and then shutting it off maybe this car just needs to be run and then once this car idles for several minutes we can actually take it out on the road I'm not gonna go too far away because I don't want to get stranded and we're gonna see if it runs well now while we're waiting for this car to warm up I do want to show off the new wheels these came from fer parts and I have to give a big thanks to the guys over at fer parts because when I call him up and I said I need a set of wheels for my 360 they told me yeah we got a great set for you we know you're in to repair and stuff these ones you know they're just in ok shape so they came to me looking like this I took them to the powder coating shop I told him I wanted silver I wanted this car to have the classic look that it came with and so we went with silver but they threw a little extra metallic in there for me and check it out these things really sparkle in the Sun in my opinion these wheels they look great on this car cuz this is what this car originally came with but they do have that kind of basic look might these be switched out in the future possibly but for right now we're gonna run with them and I'm almost positive they're gonna ride a lot better than those 20s with rubber bands that we had on before I don't know if you could see but there's definitely some smoke coming out of the engine bay here that's pretty normal for a Ferrari right let's just check that before we actually take it down the road that's all we need is for this to end in flames yeah that's just oil burning off the exhaust we're sending it a little bit of smoke never hurt anybody rolls way better now that the tires are actually inflated and there is a good amount of smoke coming from the rear but again I just think that that's all the engine oil that's left over on the exhaust we're gonna put in first here we go [Music] and it's roland now we got some clanking going on that's just a few tools I have in the passenger side in case we break down and I'm taking this for a parking-lot lap right now in case I get broken down I'll be in the parking lot it's actually in second gear I don't know how it got there but must have accidentally clicked it a few times all right all right I want to keep this car rolling oh there was a little bit of a surge in power there okay it's really jumpy I don't know if that's me or not but you know it's funny is the only other time I drove a Ferrari it was a race car and that's exactly how the throttle was but you know this is more of a consumer Ferrari so I'm assuming that's not how it's supposed to feel all right well there's third gear and I will drop it back down in a second again we're gonna take another parking-lot lap here because I am Not sure that I want to get stuck today and it's running uh I mean pretty good well jeez I shouldn't say that so early let's just keep on taking a few laps here and see how this goes I'm also keeping the windows open and keys it does catch on fire so I have an exit way out of the car in case the electrical is screwy we're coming to a stop I'm gonna drop it in first this car seems to maybe shift itself a little bit if you just lugging it in first alright so here's a little bit of gas and first but we don't want to go too fast and I'll be honest I don't know if maybe there is something wrong with the clutch or something but it doesn't shift like a really fast transmission like you'd expect an f1 people complain about the speed of shifting in this car maybe that's what they're complaining about we're gonna do another parking lot laughs it's down shifting pretty quick but the of shifts my gosh are they really really slow [Music] this is exciting and terrifying at the same time it really really rides like a race car extremely stiff extremely rigid it's amazing how flat this car is even though it's got a convertible top I'm very very impressed and mind you it's 15 years old all right now we're gonna take you to a dead stop here and see what it does okay a downshift to first on its own since I don't have a good feel of first gear I'm probably gonna short shift in a second here yep that first his second shift is really slow now I'm gonna open up a little bit more [Music] yeah there's a huge huge delay in shifting again Wow somebody let me know in the comments section is that normal for this car now there is a sport mode let me see if I can click it on a sport modes now on now all right here's 3rd Wow you see we've graduated from the parking lot or now on actual road still close to where we need to be and it's working and it's down shifting and everything guys was amazing right now there are literally no check engine codes or anything now the interesting question will be now that we stretch this cars legs a little bit will it work again who knows [Music] the second moment of truth with our Ferrari will it give us trouble now has it warmed up are we okay do you understand that you're at a better home now let's see here gotta close the door first foot on the brake key in the ignition what we gave it our best shot but I'm disappointed in you so I'm going to go see another Italian car I've been talking about the salvage supercar rebuild project for a while now and that's what you probably thought the Ferrari was but it's not several months ago I want an incredible insurance lot at the salvage auction it's the most amount of money I've ever spent on a salvage car but I think it's gonna be an incredible value now over these last few months I've been accumulating all the parts necessary to build it and right now I'm on the way to VIII Tunes garage where the car is sitting along with all the parts and we're gonna try and knock it out in just a few days now don't worry the Ferraris not going anywhere and I plan on nailing it down the second I get back from Vee Tunes garage and I've made a handful of calls I think the Ferrari is going to need some diagnosis in those ECU's or ECMs and possibly some replacement parts which is gonna take a little bit of additional time so this will be perfect to fill that time and when we get to VIII Tunes garage I hope he's gonna pull the truck frame really quick we'll check out the Focus RS which I heard is pretty much finished and then I'll give you a little sneak peek of the new project this is like when I go to a salvage yard we've got an Audi s4 right up front Civic Si the CTSV which is really cool couple e46 m3 is back there but this is an awesome awesome project V Tunes been working on the BMW m4 looks like he's getting it ready for paint you know this quarter had like a few little dents and he got it all taken out with paintless dent repair this has not been repainted this is a beautiful job let's see if we can find him check out the Focus RS he told me that it's it's pretty much done all I see is that the rear valance is off of it vu in here somewhere hey man good to see you listen this thing looks amazing check it out what needs to be done drift mode on check out those blue parts in the engine bay look awesome alright man you want to pull the truck so we have the truck on the frame everything is strapped down ready to go we're gonna start off by pulling the right side frame rail right here so you can see it took a nice little impact right here this bracket is bent we're gonna just grab it right here and try pulling it over so it's the right side frame rail because we're looking at it and that's the right right yeah it was the right one got the right side frame are we're gonna pull that [Music] [Music] dude it's done finally we got the truck done we did have to pull the rail like an inch so we got that pool that we put the bumper on everything looks good now when he had to take the truck off and get into alignment so in a little bit over 24 hours we drove the Ferrari we traveled eight hours to the vtune garage we pulled the frame on the truck and finished that completely and now we're getting ready for the salvage supercar rebuild project I want to thank this guy right here v - make sure you check him out on youtube at beacon garage and follow us both on instagram I'm gonna put them up right here just click the links in the description box below if you enjoyed this video be sure to give it a huge like make sure maybe you have those notifications on so you know when this goes live up next thank you all for watching today and we'll catch you very soon [Music]
