Drinking at Osaka's Hidden Bars, Eating Raw Chicken & More | Osaka Nightlife Part 2

the atmosphere is so much fun in this place and it's i think i almost feel like this is the the essence of osaka culture it's like street food is that's a lot of famous wholesale foods are street foods well the food is all really delicious but it's really cool that we can actually sit right in front of the the counter where they're cooking this is my favorite place to be this is so fun [Music] that sounds like an amazing bar okay this is where we're going to go stand aside which is yeah the owner's name is saya yeah oh that's cool so it's a little play on words let's go in i like in this place to drinking in a harry potter's closet what okay wait this is it already they're [Music] [Laughter] the atmosphere in here the moment that you walk in it's just so welcoming it's a tiny space but everyone here is so friendly all of the the other guests in the room are really really friendly as well so you just feel like it's a little family it is the staff are amazing this is the the bar owner right is the bar or not nice to meet you let's give it a try [Laughter] osaka is a really big city much like tokyo in many ways but the the atmosphere and the vibe of the people especially is polar opposite i think if you go to tokyo people tend to be pretty reserved shy they wouldn't want to appear on camera for example yeah yeah yeah um but if you come to osaka people are so friendly so talkative you come in everybody is like your friend instantly um they're a little bit more receptive to being on camera as well they're just more more open i love this song reality i think most of these tours would end up in karaoke this time we're going to keep it a little bit more tame where are we up to next another bar but quite different but also small and intimate and very cool okay well let's finish up our drinks and then we'll head off to our next stop bye thank you see you awesome they're so friendly i also got a little lollipop at the bar which i don't think i've received a lollipop since i was a kid which is why this is so funny you go to a bar in osaka and you can get a free lollipop is this where we're going yeah this is one of my favorite little alleyways i walked past this for ages before i noticed it there used to be something here it's a little bit more obvious now it's a wonderful little alleyway full of uh wonderful little bars honestly this is kind of mysterious we've got some kind of rickety looking old um [Applause] this is how you go into the bar okay a little bit of delicious miho sake here so we've got two different varieties you said you've got a bit of a sweet tooth you like the amaguchi so that's why it's there for you um it's in this vessel here a traditional measure of rice and i like that it's just poured over the top you can't move this thing without spilling it you're right it is completely overflowing into the this is called a masu if i remember correctly we can't come by this one we can it will be ridiculous we could try it we could no we're not going to come by it we'll just let's go straight in here we go [Music] and then once you've done that of course you can take it out move it around drink from the mussoo we could pour the mushroom into the glass to fill it if you prefer but i'm like drink from a box oh yeah like we also have this opportunity to drink from a freaking box definitely so you can basically just take it out drink it from the glass and also drink it from the box and as you can see taking it out now you've got plenty of space in your masu and still a brimming cup of sake and mine is uh amakuchi it is sweeter so it's very easy to drink it goes down so smooth it's so good such a clear crisp taste but still soft this is so good i think it might lead quite nicely into the first place we're going to have there all right now this is something that i don't know maybe two to yeah one to two-thirds of people come on the tour are just not comfortable eating and would not want to and that's completely fine but what it is is raw chicken the raw chicken that i had before was cooked on the outside you can actually see the little cooked strip on the outside so this was to sanitize it this one doesn't appear to have that so i'm like a little concerned the reason it's safe apparently is a number of reasons number one it's super super fresh like this was walking and clucking this morning all right so rodney has eaten this hundreds of times so i i totally trust that this is completely safe to eat people have been coming here for years to eat this but my producer is telling me we've got a whole week of shooting left to do so in the smallest case you know just to err on the side of caution just in case i get sick we don't want that so i'm gonna let rodney handle this one for me today i will be if that's all right that's fine i will be your guinea pig oh fantastic thank you moss so i'm thinking i'm thinking for this one a little bit of wasabi actually that's a lot of wasabi this is gonna go to my nose you need a good facial that actually looks really good fair amount of wasabi does it come into your nose i want some more it's very soft it reminds me of nothing more than sashimi it's extremely soft it's got a very mild flavor to it um yeah really obviously super super fresh what kind of fish do you think would be similar to this it doesn't have a strong sort of taste of maguro or anything um yeah is the texture kind of like uh yeah the texture is yeah very much like maguro but even like slightly softer than maguro well another delicacy that you can put in your face without your projector going nuts yeah your producer getting a little bit angry is um this here this is it's actually chicken neck yeah and um it's properly cooked all right let's give this a try so this is like a chicken neck you said it yeah it's pretty darn good it's nice right it's um regular chicken to be honest a little bit crunchier on the inside not bad at all it's awesome um we had still have a very limited schedule don't forget do you have one more place to take us today is it our last place of the day um i think it might be given the time okay well we're gonna pretty much just shot our sakes from the the boxes the masseuse here and then we're gonna head to the next place cheers so good it's even better in the to be honest i agree oh that was so much fun one of my favorite thematic ways i've got a lot of them but this is right up there it's amazing it's so much character and every little shop is so tiny but the owners are so friendly the customers are equally friendly it is such an experience that is awesome and it's a real community and for me it's an honor to be part of this wonderful nightlife environment and being able to share it with people and show people these cool places and tell them the stories about them and why they are fun and so on and so forth it's amazing it's such a fun experience but i also want to remind you guys we have a prize for you of my favorite little bars in um but this is run by a friend of mine akagi it's also a whiskey bar with some other cool stuff going on so come come out follow me into a dog anyway let's go oh this is so cool the atmosphere is incredible the ground is gravel like it's just stones in here this is incredible he is the best bartender in the world he's awesome so he's got a selection of things here got some gins you got a bunch of whiskies this is the whiskey sort of main bar but he also does some awesome fresh fruit cocktails that sounds good this is incredible what fruits do we have today i think it's time for a peach cocktail is that right the alcohol is um yeah what alcohol is in the future it sounds really good actually rum and peach i would love to try that [Music] so this is my peach and rum rum and with our crab juice cranberry yeah wow that sounds good that's fresh fruit as well sounds rich okay and what have you got um this is the nikka from the barrel so this is a very punchy whiskey okay that sounds really good well let's come by kanpai here we go that's amazing it is smooth so smooth like a cloud i want to say but clouds are fluffy but it's it's fluffy and smooth like a cloud it's like like a fluffy smooth cloud if you will that's exactly right can you imagine what i'm talking about because that's what i'm drinking right now it's a little bit frothy so it does taste a little bit like a cloud fluffy did he use a real peach in this drink because that is what it tastes like it tastes so juicy and like you can get the the juiciness or like wateriness is a weird weird way to say it but like the juicy wateriness of a real peach in this so it's like drinking a an alcoholic smoothie is that is so good thank you for the recommendation not at all i'm having the time of my life this is the ultimate nightlife tour you'd be lucky if you win this spot i'm not gonna lie i'm not gonna lie i am not lying did you know that this spa has the second floor no way yeah cute i know that i've had a couple of drinks but there are no stairs anywhere in this room no there are not there those are not stairs oh my gosh i cannot believe this is a stairway really i kid you not the bar is right here this is the counter stepping on the counter now wow it's a tiny second floor but the the roof is surprisingly high what this is a trippy experience you can see the bartender through this hole in the wall hi and he's waving he's cutting the peach right now for me for my next cocktail this is wild i think it's extra wild if you've had a couple of drinks hi hello hello hello it
