[Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] Instagram so we have jet step Christina Jill [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it was definitely overwhelming getting on stage with Tabitha but it felt like I felt gratitude and I thought humbleness at the same time like it just it felt really cool to look at people's faces and see them light up kind of the way I feel inside about the journey that was amazing I felt like I was somehow meant to be up there and inspiring other people I feel like it's finally starting to sink in a little bit and I'm trying to own it you know like own the fact that I'm here and it was definitely surreal that moment it was just like instantaneously we were up the steps and then it was like let's all fit in together and it was just it was so quick that you didn't even have time to think if you were nervous or not I felt a lot of pressure because there's a lot of people who wanted this and and I can't let them down [Applause] I had a meltdown the night before pacing back and forth in my house and having these moments of like maybe I should call and tell him I can't do this and I was really scared because it's hard stepping out of your comfort zone and you know doing something for yourself [Music] [Applause] seeing the mentees for the first time physically for the first time was really exciting but I had honestly watched their submission videos so many times that I already felt like I knew them and that was amazing actually because I feel like instantly the mentees with each other and also the mentees with me felt really really comfortable and it ease [Music] morning first day for matrix mentor me and we are headed to you elements salon for brick shop and other fun stuff really tired cuz it's really early but it's gonna be fun yeah we are buttoned up and we are always organized we always think down the road and that's how we do things but our other people in the team do the same wait Daniel Paisley right Michelle O'Connor all of us do it you don't get to that level unless you put the thought into it it doesn't happen by chance you don't just turn up and go yeah I look really cute and I'm really great at what I do and it's just gonna happen and if it does it's not gonna last that ego booked ridiculous sorry you just I'm just gonna say it's absolutely ridiculous right when they walk on the stage it's more about me and how I look then how inspire you and teach you something they don't last very long [Music] I feel like working with each of the mentees they all want something different and I'm getting to know them so I really want to work with each of them individually so that I can really nail down what their personal goals are in their personal development as well as their hairdressing development and that's really important for me with this program so they really walk away feeling that their lives and their careers are enriched I definitely felt pressure performing in front of tabatha I mean I've only been doing hair for two years so I felt grounded but at the same time I was like holy I'm cutting bangs in front of Chavez better look good I was trying to honestly like ignore everybody because I was like if I notice I'm standing behind me then I'm just gonna freak out and I'm not gonna do what I'm here to do so I just tried to block everything out and just be like okay let's go man again let's get this later on it was like you have three hours do something that you're comfortable with but you obviously still want to impress them like you still want to do something that isn't just you know copy-paste like super easy so that the pressure creatively what they're my head was in so many other places that I was really disappointed in myself because this is the first time they're seeing my work and I didn't put my best foot forward when I saw the mentees work on their mannequin heads there's work there that needs to be done and the work that needs to be done is really strong foundational work there was a realization for me like getting here and you know I wanted to be a part of this so bad but when you're looking for education and inspiration I feel like there's a lot of responsibility with it because you have a lot of work to do you know if there is like you want to live up to something everybody knows that you're just starting out and that this whole thing is to mentor us but you still want to be like I'm here for a reason and everybody knows that we're here for a reason but it's like you want to prove it I definitely woke up every single morning they came that I had something to prove and thinking that I was gonna try my hardest to prove that I have something to bring to the family I I'm the kind of person that processes things after they happen so just be in the moment as much as possible because I definitely I have a tendency to live in the future thinking about what's gonna happen next or worried you know anxiety worry about what's gonna happen next so just be present in the moment as much as I can pay attention stay focused smile you know absorb everything that I can I feel like a mother with these mentees I'm concerned about everything they do I worry about are they going to wake up and make their flight they're going to get to the airport on time what happens if their flights cancelled are they having lunch did they go to the bathroom it's ridiculous they're just fresh they're new they're so excited about the industry and it's really about this industry we have to leave it better than we found it and I believe the mentors are our way of matrix to be sure that we always leave this industry better than we found it in this journey for them I mean their future is bright with what they can achieve the adventure Pro just casually meeting everybody no big deal who is it Danielle a living legend like a first second that we saw all them it was scary of course because they're like idols and it's like oh my god hi but then they're so nice and they're so welcoming and they like remember things about you like they'll come up to you and they'll just talk about something that you're talking about the other day and it's just like you feel like you're already front to these people it was really cool to see Phillip cut hair in person you don't Instagram you see these like super fast videos and they're like really interesting for watch but I asked them in what instrument he plays because there's like there's a rhythm and it's very like flow it's like I could hear a metronome in my head when I was watching it's like a dream coming to life honestly and being brought into the family of superstars crazy experience for sure my point is is think about what experience everything socially don't think it is just the internship take the journey teach them about the journey in that process to come back you got to leave something money and I love like we had our color class with Chris and he has been exceptionally warm and inviting to us in his class he genuinely was watching closely at what we were doing and giving us tips and tricks and giving us some insight into his mind and a new way we can think about color taking a step back and looking at your work you can see it better whenever you face the face and that it's super hard to tell it's going on goodness take a step back so I'm a Vegas back Homer and I always go up with my brushes and the way that he was like no I was like oh it was really about all about color melting so really setting them up for success and getting them great techniques I think the overall project is I can't imagine having something like this coming up the other you'll see so many different artists to get this kind of nexus of you know understanding into education in one area so I think it's huge for them and I think it's a great program the matrix definitely jumps behind and should jump on I say the phrase I'm tired pretty often in the hair salon but this weekend I feel tired I actually checked my watch this morning like it gave me like my update for the week and I said that we walked almost like 50 miles this week so I think on average the normal person wants like three-mile today so we've been walking a lot it's running all over the place for one place to the next running from the model room to the classrooms to upstairs to appeals to everything balanced them to class the class and interview to interview it's been a lot a lot it's been a lot kind of like a blur exhausted my feet are swollen I knew it was gonna be big I knew it was gonna be a lot of walking because I did go to premiere last year but it's a little it still catches you off guard a little bit how much the distance that you actually hover in one day [Music] telling everyone about Edith or me program [Music] the Chicago show and being at ABS is a really high bar to set because so much has happened in such a short amount of time the fact that the mentees are here in Chicago less than a week after being in New York they have met so many huge industry names and icons they have had amazing classes with matrix team now they have to really drill down and do some hard work so that they can bring their work skills up [Applause] you know I think I think you always have that kind of what if I suck at this you know like what if what if I don't learn enough what if I don't become great or do something good and I don't I don't know like sometimes it it's just it's a scary process like trying something new doing something different I don't know I want to show like I wanted to uncover like what I can be that that part of me that I haven't been able to access yes and so it's like the thought of that not happening is scary I've failed before you know in a different life and I don't want to fail this time I I know what I want and I don't want to see it slip I just want to leave everything behind and keep going you know there's so many things I want to accomplish you know in this industry and I think that's what's that risk [Music] [Music] you
