Dream Homes - Luxury Log Home & $8 Million Dollar Farmhouse

[Music] welcome to the third season of dream homes i'm bianca saul Trebek and I usually host the show with Peter birch but he's not here yet which is unlike him but it's a big property so I'm sure he'll show up at some point [Music] so good of you to join me to help host the first episode of our third season well I don't know if you heard Bianca but for season three I'm exclusively taking sky helicopters to and from the houses part of my contract okay well I don't know if that's gonna fly Peter but not a bad idea for today issue the views must have been incredible looking down at this seventy four hundred square foot log cabin in Maple Ridge the view up top was amazing but the view inside is even better this house is a very French country feel and it's actually separated into four different wings great place for entertaining out here where we're standing now and my favorite the pool with the waterslide [Music] Marianne Mac lives in this gorgeous country home made of fur and cedar logs with her two daughters Sydney and Mackenzie I love the entire place this house was designed with everybody in mind the living room at the kitchen we're all together a bedroom it's nice it's an oasis and the bathtub it's just the whole house is designed for our family in mind Marianne and her late husband Ted dreamt up the home one night and drew it all out on a napkin in 2008 their dream home was built and they were surrounded by these massive hand-picked b/c logs we had many choices that we could put on this property a stick frame a little cabin but it was our dream to live in a log home [Music] Ted helped build the entire home from the foundation to the roof to the locks on the door and he got to live in his dream home for four years before he passed away every log has been touched by a human hand it's been hewn and scored with a loggers love this was Ted's dream this was my husband's dream and for him to see it come alive on TV he would just be extended [Music] maryanne we're standing here in your beautiful kitchen the first thing I noticed when I walked into the house though is the smell of wood it's amazing what kind of what is it cedar it's from Vancouver Island okay all hand-picked I love it yeah it's doing a nice aroma to come home to now let's talk about the kitchen where we're standing there's a lot going on from the beautiful cabinetry to again all the wood the fixtures did your vision really come through with this kitchen when you designed it it did yes it was supposed to accommodate the whole family when they were over and this the beautiful colors and everything just felt in place the way we wanted it and let's talk about some of the things that make your kitchen unique you've got tons of space because we've got two islands and there's a little thing on the island I want you to tell me about cuz I'm very interested in that that is the kitchen center it's a it's my dream kitchen Center next lender take all the pieces out and put them all together and you can basically cook an entire meal on there and get it all prepared Wow it's wonderful have you ever made margaritas on there hi yeah okay now that is a feature I can get behind I may not be the best cook but I can definitely see myself whipping up margaritas on that kitchen Center when walking around your home I immediately notice all of your beautiful lighting features you've got it a massive chandelier in the front entrance how did you get that up there oh that was fun we had to put up big line landings and there was men out there shifting and pulleys and everything but it was sited in itself with such high ceilings you got a lot of space to fill but that is a beautiful chandelier and something that's just next to the chandelier is those huge fans one of the first things I noticed when we walked in here tell us about those fans Oh from fanimation which is back east it's got that Casablanca feel and it's just a real homey feel and it moves the air very well in the house [Music] what we always ask our homeowners is I mean the spaces are beautiful but what does it look like day-to-day how do you live your life in this space I have two beautiful daughters who like to empty the dishwasher for me they can watch TV I can do cooking we can trip over each other and chase around the islands - it's a lot of fun playing tag in here I imagine be a great place for having people over and just getting ready and looking out at the beautiful view all around just a great kitchen to be in [Music] this hole is so big that you actually have a sleeping wing yes there's the three of us with the girls room each have their own room and then this one which is they call it the gymnasium sometimes but it's a nice size it sure is this is the master bedroom we're standing in and I think I could do cart rails around your bed the girls do all the time [Music] Wow Marianne wasn't kidding the girls can literally cartwheel through her room I don't think I'll try myself though because I'll probably end up splitting my pants were you planning to make it this big no no a little bit smaller on paper yeah well it's beautiful and it's a beautiful space I can't imagine waking up every morning to those high ceilings and the wood beam oh just the look in the wood you can see different things every time you look up you see different veins in the wood it's gorgeous so cozy and speaking of cozy you have a beautiful bathroom right next door and the first thing that struck me is the shower it's like a river a waterfall running through it rough teaming out over the edge and it's quite large so room for more than one tub Eagle talons on the ends of it yeah this rough brushed bronze this all of the faucets and everything like a classic tub dude you find sometimes after a long day get in there and lay down glass of wine and just relax it's wonderful [Music] and when you leave the master bedroom you see two beautiful bedrooms each belonging to the girls and I noticed right away though they have different styles and different colors yes they're very unique I took them shopping and Sydney was able to choose her reds and Mackenzie loved her blues and so we made the rooms work so we may be twins but they both have different styles totally unique personalities yes speaking of unique they have a bathroom that I've never seen before there's the archway over the tub with the curtain yes yeah that was a nice detail that we put in because made the bathroom a little bit longer and it looks like a really private area to have a nice bath that I often go in there and find the curtains drawings yeah we need to relax after a hard day at school we'll have more from this incredible dream home after the break today on dream homes were touring this majestic 7,000 square foot log home with five bedrooms on four acres Marian we've made our way upstairs into the loft area and we're standing in front of the grand piano and I understand this area was built specifically for a piano was that right well yes and for everybody to sit back and enjoy some music lovely yeah there's a great couple areas to relax around here now do you play piano yourself do I took conservatory for about four years but the girls are gonna start learning now too so this is a good place to do it [Music] the whole upstairs is kind of for the girls over to our left you created a space kind of a play area for them and that wasn't originally part of the plan or was it not really no the whole sleeping wing actually was to have a vaulted ceiling down the hallway but my husband was crawling around in the rafters and he thought this is wasted space so we laid out a floor we built a playroom and redid the bridge and have a playroom you can easily have beautiful high ceilings but it's also great to have extra space as well and not everyone can say they have a gangway in their house but that's pretty cool to be able to say the kids are bad I can come to walk the plank and go play in the playroom out of here we're to lock the door and leave you in there we can definitely use a gangway at work well you know for Peter when he gets out of line the girls are getting a little bit older and now they're probably using the other room a little bit more well they have a TV and a bit of an area to hang out yes they have the media room they've got their games in there we watch motion picture movies action-packed and we can close the door and nobody else will get disturbed it's gonna be quite loud but it's fun yeah and that's the great thing about your house there's a lot of different areas that you can go and hang out whether it's outside upstairs kind of all over the place something we experienced a little bit earlier the camera wasn't on but the house creaks a little bit can you tell us a little bit about that yeah the house was designed all the logs they do shrink up over a period of about 2 or 3 years and it's called settling okay yeah and during hot weather or cold weathers the logs will expand and pop and crack and all of a sudden it'll startle you but it's actually quite quaint you're laying a bed and you can hear it crack and creak that creaking could get a little bit creepy especially at night but I mean I wouldn't be scared I'm I've got this guy to keep me safe [Music] and a hot day like today the outside area where the pool is is a perfect place to hang out and that's where we're going to [Music] I cannot think of a better way to end off a dream homes torrid then with a nice cold drink thank you for the margaritas by the way we're back here in the backyard which has gone through a big transformation since you first built the place tell us a little bit about what you did back here oh this house originally had mobile homes and olds homesteads from the 1930s we cleaned it all up leveled it all out this is what we have now Wow looking at that property it's amazing to see how far they've come that's what I call a real labor of love and I would call this sort of a kid's paradise because you've got a trampoline a kids Playhouse and how much do the girls love that pool oh I can't keep him out of it there's a ton of stuff to do back here both for you and the girls you also have some chickens is that right yes yes girls are living out back the girl that's the chickens not the tools they sleep inside of their bedroom just to clarify but a great place for kids for adults that you can go through the ravine you can play there's the trampoline the pool I would never get sick of living here I would probably never leave here Bianca Marianne seems to really like you maybe she'd let you stay in her spare bedroom or maybe out back in the henhouse with the girls we have had a great day touring your dream home this home is absolutely incredible I personally loved your sweeping wing I thought the bedrooms were beautifully decorated it and those bathrooms so relaxing I'm really torn between my favorite spaces I love the backyard the country living is really nice out here but the upstairs is also really great you could watch TV kick back and kind of escape from the whole house I think it's fair to say the whole place is great overall it's pretty great in fact we don't want to leave but we do have to go back to work and that pier I was hoping I could maybe catch a ride on that helicopter I can call Alan sky helicopters and see if we can squeeze you back in and head to the office I'll drink to that cheers and thank you Mary Ann welcome for coming [Music] but before we head back to the office we're gonna take a quick flight over to Pitt Meadows and just wait until you see this amazing eight million dollar farmhouse today on the show we toured this stunning three million dollar log cabin and took a helicopter over to our next dream home twelve thousand square feet of luxury Country Living we're here in beautiful Pitt Meadows just 35 minutes away from downtown Vancouver hard to believe it's so close isn't it we're gonna check out the grounds here a little bit later but first we're gonna head inside check out the main room the kitchen and this place has its own event hall and then at the end of the show we're gonna reveal the beautiful backyard a world-class garden its own Island and my favorite seven acres of blueberries that's sweet [Music] taking us on a tour of this exquisite Country Estate is Devon Owen a local realtor specializing in luxury homes absolutely love my job cuz every day is a different day and you never know what you're gonna experience born and raised in a small town Owen grew up on a farm and feels right at home on this lavish acreage I absolutely love this property there's actually five building on the property including the home which is beautifully kept the events hall and the barn [Music] Owen says once you step into this picturesque farmhouse you'll be welcomed by rustic decor and old European charm my favorite room is actually the master ensuite it's got this beautiful regal tub and the window is overlooking the grounds which are spectacular and the west coast shower is just amazing Wow Devin I cannot think of a better place to start this tour and then here in the beautiful main room and tell me about those drawers we just walked through oh my gosh they're amazing they are from Spain they're just over 300 years old and they're gorgeous antiques yes and there's a lot of antiques in this place now the house and the property itself is only about 20 years old right but there is a lot of history I mean the beams that we see above us they're over 100 years old is that right yeah they're from a barn is Scotch one some Canadian history in here yeah a lot of history European Canadian all over the place the eave history we both noticed that chandelier when we walked in the room oh it's amazing it is from a Belgian castle and there's only three in the world that is incredible not only is the chandelier from a castle in Belgium but it's 300 years old [Music] everywhere you go there's lots of Windows and you get to see all the beautiful greenery around one of my favorite parts of this room is the outlet to the gardens into the pond and to the water feature into the beautiful bridges pretty impressive have your own personal water feature on your property and again all the green space everywhere you look [Music] I'm gonna bring it back indoors because I sleep in a piano so I obviously notice that gorgeous grand piano behind us it is a classic it is world war ii era it's from germany so it's just incredible well bianca is also from germany but that doesn't mean she should be playing it at all today we'll just leave that to the professionals Bianca I'm okay with you playing piano inside the dream homes but please just take a lesson it's been 20 years [Music] one of my favorite pieces that I noticed was a flag that you see up by the library I noticed that it doesn't have the right amount of stars on it is that right yeah apparently it only has 43 stars and it hung over the US Embassy in Parramatta Wow okay 43 stars history's not that great I don't know when that would have been from but definitely it's it's not a new flag we'll say that for sure okay so clearly I'm Peter and I probably could use a couple minutes in a library you saw American flag knowledge but there is a beautiful library here and an interesting way to get up to it yeah there's a little stepladder right there and it's a really nice little getaway to just be quiet and have your own space up there and wait come back well I think that's like the property in general there's a lot of really cool spaces you can go and get away and be on your own speaking of which let bianco go do some exploring on her own I'm really excited to check out that kitchen because it's a pretty cool space and well you're not really interested are you no I'm not that comfortable in a kitchen I'm not leave that to you to leave it to the semi-professional [Music] so we've made our way over into the kitchen area which is very beautiful over here it's not that kind of cabin feel with the wood and first off let's talk about that stove because it's the first thing you notice when you walk in it's really unique it is an August stove it's about a hundred years old and it heats the whole room and it's got all the warming drawers it's got the two stovetop elements and you can do a lot of cooking on there imagine you cook not at all no well I do quite a bit of cooking I enjoy it and I noticed this would be a great place for entertaining you have that great table next to us as well as these countertops which are very unique what what are those made of the others cement with a rubber coating so they're beautiful you probably should have rubber countertops at Bianca's use in your kitchen we're talking about a woman who burned herself making a salad yeah he's not lying about that one [Music] the fact you have a fireplace right in your kitchen is pretty cool as well it's really neat it's actually local rock from a rock quarry in the area wow those are big so good things are local I wouldn't want to be lugging this around too far but it's beautiful house that really kind of old feeling and tiki feeling but tell me about these chandeliers above us yeah they're really neat they are very rustic they're from a hotel in Whistler and they're locked here which are very rare wow they're really neat and they fit in with that the whole feel of the place I love that wood everywhere what type of wood is that I believe it's red cedar you can actually smell it if you aren't tuning in in smellivision you can kind of smell the wood and it just has that theme all throughout it it's very cozy and like you said it's got that real rustic feel here [Music] we'll have more from the spectacular Dream Home coming up after the break today on dream homes we're checking out a world-class Garden estate in Pitt Meadows built on 10 acres it's a little slice of heaven here on earth oK we've left Peter in the kitchen Thank You skid there maybe he'll make us lunch fingers crossed we're gonna check out the event hall we're standing in it right now there's a fire crackling there's been some cool movies filmed here we should mention that Pitt Meadows in general big area for movie production definitely Twilight's been filmed here Smallville and also happy gilmore and even Ashley dreads actually filmed on the property here in American actress Ashley Judd has been maybe standing where I'm standing right now quite possibly cool I wish meals got that excited about me I mean I'm on the TV what's Ashley judge done lately like every room that we've checked out today this place has some interesting pieces that I have to ask you about let's start with that very edgy solid looking table oh it's definitely solid alright if you look into the window there it's actually a prison door from Mexico City and now I understand why it's so sturdy looking there's a second table that looks like a bit of a window it is a window actually it's from India and it beautiful all the little intricate pieces are so spectacular I'm a bit of a confession to make I run Canada but I don't speak French however I notice that beautiful writing on the wall that's gotta be French right it is luckily I do and it says ec2 joule mate not 8 usual and it means here now in forever and it was actually written by a stereo go prop who fled the war I love it so much history of this place but there is a lot of Canadiana here too right yes there definitely is the beams are actually from a homestead in Maple Ridge that's really close by very very charming you've got pieces from India from Mexico from right here in the Pitt Meadows area so much history in this room alone and there's one more thing that I don't just want to talk about I kind of want to try it out it's right over there let's go oh please don't let it be another piano I love this old antiquing looking bench and I'm guessing there's a story to it it is definitely unique it's actually from a train station in Pennsylvania and the cool thing is the pain upon wet side of a train track the trains on you can flip it so we drive let's do it [Music] Wow Peter this is incredible I'd say it's definitely time for the backyard reveal this place is absolutely spectacular we're standing on the island if you can't really tell it is surrounded by water and there's a couple of bridges on either side it's beautiful back here and these gardens are immaculate there's a bird sanctuary you know I totally understand why people get married here grounds here are so well manicured I walked around for a while and there's a lot of flowers and really no weeds anywhere which makes sense because all the organic matter and dead grass that kind of stuff they turn it to compost for the blueberry farmer if you actually sold those blueberries you can make 300 grand a year yeah with the combination of that doing the fence here this places if it works all on its own [Music] let's talk about the inside again there's a lot of history in there I loved all the antiques you've had something from almost every continent you could almost start a museum you really could India a Spain Mexico I'd definitely pay to walk through there the blueberry farm the museum there's a whole bunch of businesses that could basically pay for the eight million dollar price tag on this place I wish Bianco get that excitement all right and seven acres of blueberries I like blueberries [Music]
