the discipline priest is a proactive healer that's rewarded for precise ability usage and planning for an encounter it has incredibly strong healing cooldowns but otherwise it becomes very reliant on other healers during downtime and raid in Dungeon content however the class is fairly straightforward and the only real downside that it has is that it can fall behind and it has a hard time catching back up so instead of talking about our Mastery we're going to talk about the most fundamental mechanic with discipline priest and that's atonement our powered Shield flash Shield renew and power and Radiance apply atonement to our targets for 15 seconds then when we deal damage to an enemy it is going to heal all of those players with atonements on them for 50 percent of the Damage Done so the gameplay cycle with this class becomes apply atonements to players and then deal damage to the enemy in order to heal them next up we're going to talk about various categories of our spells and while we're not going to cover every single spell that's available to us we're going to cover the most fundamental ones and then work our way from there so first up we have applying atonement this is going to be powered Shield flash heal and power word radiance powered Shield is a short cooldown ability that will apply a shield and an atonement to the Target we use it on flash Shield is a single Target heel with a short cast time that also applies atonement and does a does a moderate amount of healing to the Target powered Radiance it does a initial heal to the Target and also four surrounding targets and it applies atonement to all of them so next up we'll talk about our abilities that extend our atonements Rapture evangelism and Shadow fiend Rapture is a one and a half minute cooldown and when used it will apply a power word Shield to the Target and then for the next eight seconds our power word Shield has no cooldown and can be freely applied to any Targets we'll typically use Rapture leading up into our next ability evangelism evangelism will extend the duration of all of our active atonements by six seconds giving us more time to heal those players before those atonements fall off Shadow theme does not extend our atonements whatsoever but it's an ability that we use alongside Rapture and evangelism which will be explained later so that's why I included it here with the extending atonements next we have our utility spells this is going to include pain suppression purify and master spell pain suppression is our external cooldown that we can use typically on a tank or a player taking heavy amounts of damage and it's actually one of the strongest external cooldowns in the game providing the player with a 40 damage reduction the main downside to this external cooldown is that it has such a long cooldown compared to other healers externals but that's what you get for how strong it is next up purify is our dispelability and it will dispel magic and disease debuffs lastly we have Master spell this targets an area on the ground and then dispels one harmful Magic debuff from five players inside of it and also removes one beneficial magic buff from enemy units inside of it and it caps at five for each of those so five allies and five enemies so now we're going to talk about ramp variations but before we get into that what is a ramp a ramp is when a discipline priest applies a certain amount of atonements over a short duration foreign and then extends those atonements and then deals a large amount of burst damage to the enemy to then heal all of those atonements that they just applied so first up we have the big ramp this is when we apply 15 or more atonements and we use cooldowns then we have the mini ramp this is 9 to 15 atonements without using an equal Downs then we have what I call sustained healing as a discipline priest and this is when we just have five to eight atonements without any cooldowns and then lastly we have conservative healing which is when we only apply one to four atonements without cooldowns and we don't use radiance so now we have an idea of different ramp variations and what to expect from them but now how do we actually apply them in practice so first we need to apply atonements with flash Shield depending on how many atonements we want to apply the way that we do this math is you just add up the radiance charges that you're going to be using one Radiance charge is five atonements so that means if we use both Radiance charges we're getting 10 atonements pretty much for free so that means if we want say a big ramp in order to get 15 or more atonements we need to apply five or more atonements with flash Shield at the start so it's five or more atonements with flash Shield at the start then radians twice then we press R extending its own abilities like evangelism and Shadow fiend and then we press our damage rotation which is going to be Schism mind blast Penance spam smite so again what it's going to look like is we apply atonements with flash Shield flash Shield five times so one two three four five and then we're gonna have radians twice one radians two radians then we extend with evangelism Shadow fiend and then now we're going to do our damage rotation schism mind blast penance then spam smite and that's the absolute basics of it it is more complicated than that and you do have added abilities that you end up adding on later down the road but that's the most basic idea so again for a big ramp we're gonna do one flash Shield two flash Shield three four five then we Radiance twice then we extend with evangelism and then press Shadow fiend then for a damage rotation we skism mind blast Penance and smite and we just Smite until those atonements fall off now we want to do a mini ramp so for a mini ramp we want 9 to 15 atonements and that basically means we can use one to two radiances with this it could just vary based on how far we want to go with the mini ramp it's basically how much Mana do we have so let's say we want to do a ramp with 10 atonements for a mini ramp so now what we're going to do is we're going to flash Shield two three four five times then we can Radiance once then we we don't use cooldowns because that the mini ramp doesn't use any equal Downs so then after we press that Radiance it's just Schism mind blast Penance bam Smite until the atonements fall off then say we want to just do sustain healing this is five to eight atonements without any cooldowns and only zero to one Radiance charge is used so let's try to do one without a Radiance charge so if we want to do a sustain heal with no Radiance charge I would press flash Shield let's say five times so two three four five and then I would just go right into Schism mind blast Penance because we aren't using any Radiance charges and we also aren't using any cooldowns all right and then lastly we have conservative healing which is when we have one to four atonements without any cooldowns and no Radiance charges used so really that's just as simple as keep an atonement on the tank or the couple players taking damage and then do your normal thing you can just press Smite and press Penance when it's off cooldown and then if Schism comes back up you can use that but as long as your timing Schism and mind blast and Penance with your bigger ramps that's what mostly matters and then lastly for the sustain healing you can also just use Radiance charges you don't have to build up into Radiance with flash Shields so say I want to just do sustained healing and I don't want to spend a lot of mana and I'm just sitting here I can just press a Radiance charge just to get it out on players and do some free healing with the atonements that I have but that's it that's the idea of it I do have rant videos on my YouTube channel that are a little outdated they're from shadowlands but they're still relevant and you can still watch them to understand how to do a ramp it pretty much explains it the way that it still plays now there just maybe an added button or two in this current expansion but I do plan to make an updated ramp guide by the time that the expansion launches so expect that very soon or go check that out if you're ready and then other than that thank you so much for watching I hope this video was helpful and make sure to stop by the community Discord that's down in the description below and I will see you in the next one
