Baruch is pleased to share this weekly address in English to find out more about our work in Israel please visit us on the web at love Israel aarrg that's one word love Israel dot o RG now here's baroque with today's lesson if God is moving in your life there's going to be changed there's going to be a righteous change where your life will become more reflective of the will of God and the final change that God is going to make to his creation is a kingdom now we've learned that the kingdom of God comes about in stages the two primary stages what we talked about last week the first is the Millennial Kingdom where Messiah sure the Lamb of God the Lion of Judah where he will Rea reign for 1,000 years from the holy city ear hakodesh yerushalayim the holy city Jerusalem and we know that after that period of a thousand years there's going to be another element of judgment and then the final stage of the kingdom of God what's known as the New Jerusalem and that's what we're gonna be focusing in on for the next several weeks so with that said take out your Bible and look with me to the book of Revelation and chapter 21 now this chapter opens up with some very important information what we're looking at should not surprise us because Messiah should taught us that there was going to be this change so look if you would to verse 1 it says and John is speaking I looked and I saw a new heavens and a new earth for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away now there are some important implications to this fact that there's a new heaven and a new earth but before we talk about those implications let me share with you something that happened yesterday I was speaking to another group and the subject became heaven and an individual said that's where we're gonna spend eternity that is not the case what does the scripture tell us there's going to be a new heaven and a new earth because the first heaven and the first earth is going to be no more it is going to pass away now notice something else when we look at this I said there was implications Messiah schewe taught in the book of Matthew chapter 5 and he was speaking about the Torah now one of the things we know when we look at for example the book of Isaiah and chapter 2 Isaiah speaking about the last days and he says for from Zion will go forth the taurah the law of God and from Jerusalem the word of the Lord now one of the things that we learned was this when Messiah reigns from this Jerusalem the holy city of Jerusalem for those thousand years during the Millennial Kingdom there's going to be a constitution what's the constitution of the kingdom the Torah the laws of God he is good a rule remember he is good a rule with that that rod of iron and he's going to rule according to the Torah and he promises us in Matthew chapter 5 beginning in verse 17 he says you know do not think that I came to abolish the law and the prophets he says in that scripture from Matthew 4 not one jot that is the smallest Hebrew letter a you'd and that one mark a tittle will fall away we'll be done away with until all is fulfilled and he says not until what not until there's a new heaven and new earth will there not be a relevance for the Torah so in the days that we're living in there is a revelant relevance for the laws of God but in the New Jerusalem there's going to be a change because Messiah says there's going to be a new heaven and new earth and now that's what we're talking about there's not going to be the Torah any longer and there's another implication look at the end of verse 1 it says and the sea was no more so no longer as see what is the implication of that well we learned two things concerning the sea you might recall that beginning in Revelation chapter 12 there was an emphasis in many places in that second half of the book of Revelation on this concept the sea and we learn two things about the sea for example in our study of of chapter 13 we saw that the sea represents an instability for the sea is constantly moving and because of that there is an instability so the sea is synonymous with that which is unstable and in the New Jerusalem there's going to be no instability everything is going to be founded perfectly it is going to be orchestrated and all is going to be able ordained according to the perfect will of God so it says no more sea the second thing we know about a sea from a Jewish standpoint from her break standpoint we know that sea is also a reference to fear that which is unknown that which is fearful for a person so he says there's no more sea there's no more instability and there's not going to be any longer any reason for fear why is that because the kingdom has got God has come in its fullness that's what we're talking about now let's move on to to verse 2 John is speaking he says I John see the the holy city the New Jerusalem now before we go on there needs to be an emphasis upon the fact that the kingdom of God in its final state and its state of perfection what's it called the New Jerusalem now we should use the terminology of Scripture I recently was in the Twin Cities in Minneapolis st. Paul and there there's a leader and he was being interviewed and when he was talking about the kingdom of God he used the expression the new Palestine now we don't find Israel being called Palestine in the scripture see if we are people who have faith in the God of Israel if we are a people that believe in the perfection of this book the earrin see of the Bible if we are people who are under the authority of Scripture we ought to use scriptural terms the term Palestine and we've talked about this it comes from that same root of the Philistines it speaks about the enemies of the people of God it speaks about those who were opposition to King David and likewise we know that in the book of Obadiah it talks about a conflict a final war now we're going back into the period before the establishment of the Millennial Kingdom where there's going to be a war between the sons of Jacob and the sons of Esau who are the modern-day Palestinians so we ought not used terms as Palestine when referring to Israel how God refers to that land so he says there's going to be a new Jerusalem Jerusalem an important phrase actually two Hebrew words the word Loretto from the word Aroo Aroo comes from the term the Russian to inherit and yerushalayim comes that last part comes from the word Shalom which means literally many people say peace but it means the fulfillment of God's will that's peace there's only peace when God's will is fulfilled so the final state the kingdom of God is when we the people of God are going to be inheriting the fulfillment of God's will and that's a good thing another important truth that we're going to see about the New Jerusalem is that first word new biblically speaking we find a connection between the word new and the kingdom in a few minutes Messiah is going to teach us that in the kingdom of God there's going to be a new reality in fact all things he says are new so the holy city look again at verse 2 John is speaking he says I saw the holy city the New Jerusalem coming down from God from the heavens now the scripture correct scripture that comes into my mind when I hear that verse is from the book of James when James says that every good and perfect gift comes from God from the heavens and that's what the New Jerusalem is it is a gift God is providing us the kingdom we didn't earn it we didn't purchase it it was a gift that God has provided to us a gift of perfection there's that relationship as well between the word Shalom and the word perfect you say why is that because in Hebrew the word perfect is the word Muslim it comes from that same root Shalom - to fulfill to make whole to make complete to fill up that which is lacking or that which is insufficient and what makes something that was insufficient sufficient the grace of God so once again he says I see the holy city the New Jerusalem coming down from God from the heavens as a bride that has prepared one that has been decked-out or decorated for her husband so now what we see is this we see the New Jerusalem and it uses that term bride why because there's an inherent relationship between the New Jerusalem and the people of God in other words the bride now why do we say that well remember what Messiah says in the Gospel of John he says I'm going away prepare a place for you meaning this there is a relationship between the place the kingdom that Messiah prepared one that he is going to establish forever and ever and his people the people of God it has been prepared for us and we have been prepared for for God as a bride is prepared for the bride groom move on now to verse three John is so speaking he says I heard a great voice fum and depending upon the Bible that you're using some will say heaven but many of the manuscripts in my opinion the better manuscripts they had the word throne now let's review something we're gonna talk about this and we have talked about it but the importance of that word throne in the book of Revelation I mean in some chapters the term throne appeared 12 times it is one of the key words in the book of Revelation so what we find is that John here's a great voice it's from the heavens but perhaps more specifically from the throne saying behold the tabernacle of God is with man he will dwell in their myths now let's stop for a second what we're going to see and how the scripture reveals Messiah so much throughout the book of Revelation as that Messiah is not King as not Savior is not Lord although he's all of those things but when the scripture in the book of Revelation it's favorite way to refer to refer to Yeshua is the lamb oftentimes that lamb that was slain now what does the lamb have to do with we've learned this lamb has to do with redemption so now we're going to see and this is a key point in this twenty-first chapter of the book of Revelation we're going to see what redemption is all about and there's a relationship between the concept of redemption and intimacy with God relationship with him so now we find out what God is all about if we were to ask a Hasidic rabbi what is God's utmost desire now God he's complete he lacks nothing he needs nothing but if you were to ask him what he desires he would say in Hebrew diora beta-catenin which means a habitation in the lower world that means in our world what is he speaking about what God desires is to dwell with us intimately and what we find in this passage of Scripture is that he's making a proclamation a loud voice from the throne of heaven that says behold the tabernacle that is the word for the dwelling place of God is with man he will dwell in their myths now how does that come about what allows God God whose holy God who is perfect God who does not lie God who cannot be corrupted God who does not associate and has no connection with sin how can he do well with the sinful people as Isaiah said woe is me because I'm sinful and I dwell among a sinful people God's coming that's not good news because we'll be destroyed well there's a solution that is there's an outcome to that problem and what is that one word Redemption and now when we look at the end of verse 3 what you find is the the Rabbinical what they would say the the definition for redemption what's the definition of redemption how should we understand it here it is for they shall be to me 4 people and he shall be to them their God that's what redemption is that's the outcome that man who is sinful can dwell with the holy God how by means of redemption redemption is a purchase it is a price that's paid with the very blood of who that's why my size so often here is called the land the land that was slain who shed his blood so that we might have and here's the key what we find in the book of Hebrews in Chapter nine he purchased for us eternal Redemption that's a good news so many places in the scripture what we find is a a definition for redemption which is for God will be our people excuse me we will be God's people and he will be our God so it's said in many different forms of that same truth is is seen throughout the scripture he will be our God and we will be his people now let's move on to verse 4 in verse 4 we see the outcome why we should be interested why we should be passionate why we should be excited for the kingdom of God look at verse 4 and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more now what's he saying here no more sorrow why no more death we've learned several times there's a connection between the concept of death and what else sin so when the scripture says there's going to be no more death what he says is this there's going to be no more sin no more sorrow keep reading we find also in verse 4 it says and also mourning and literally the term is crying or screams there's going to be no more pain no more crying no more anything that's negative what does he say he says at the end of verse 4 for these things are gonna pass away for they are what the former things these former things that were synonymous with this age this world as an outcome of what the first sin taking place because there's no more sin all these things are no longer going to be as well now look at verse 5 and the one who sits upon the throne said behold he says I make all things you should even know it he makes all things new so here's a reference remember that word knew should be seen a reference to the kingdom of God so when he says I make all things new there's going to be a new what we talked about in Hebrew meatsuit how - ah a new reality and more than just a new reality one with our minds we can't even grasp that reality it is going to be so new and in this concept new and different from everything that we can perceive in this world there's going to be one well how do we begin our study there's going to be great change a righteous a holy a perfect change that is going to be brought about and it's known as the kingdom of God read on in verse five and he said to me write these things because they are true and they are faithful and he said to me it is done I am the Alpha and the Omega the first and the last the beginning and the end now he's gonna say that a couple different times and what I want you to understand about this it's very significant that he says Alpha and Omega what's that the first and last letter in the Greek alphabet so what we have here's he's associating himself with the Word of God in its entirety through letters there's revelant revelation so he's saying I am what all of creation everything that has been this is the summation he's saying to know me - to understand me he says I'm the first and the last the beginning and the end and if you count there are six things that are said about him Alpha Omega first last beginning and in why six well because six is synonymous with the concept of grace of loving-kindness of the mercy of God so what he wants to tell us is simply this it is through the grace of God that all things be made noon let me say that again it's through the grace of God that the kingdom can become a reality and the kingdom will be a reality the question is this the only things that's uncertain is whether that kingdom whether you're going to experience it or not and it's only through the grace of God that comes about through redemption what's that it is the shedding of that lambs blood which brings about that healed relationship where we can be as people and he will be our God all right let's continue on to verse 2 verse 6 in the middle he says for I will give to those who are thirsty a spring of water and then he says living water now we've already talked about the fact that there's a connection between the word water what's water satisfying when someone is thirsty I mean really thirsty you crave water it is what truly satisfies so there's going to be a satisfying aspect an eternal satisfying aspect to the kingdom of God and if we look here he's talking about how he is the source of that and he gives gives life how look at the last word in verse 6 he gives life freely without costs the phrase is Betina now why is that important because what this is remember we've learned we talked about it frequently that the book of Revelation takes so often verses concept phrases sentences from the prophets and that's exactly what he's done here at the end of verse 6 when he talks about those who are thirsty let him drink from the rivers of water the waters of life and let him do so freely what's he talking about sometime look at Isaiah 55 Isaiah 55 great passage of Scripture it talks about how we can find that which we need it is without price we don't have to trade anything for it we get it freely why because of the sufficiency of the work of the land he purchased it in our behalf so everything that we're talking about here it comes to us freely it comes to us eternally it comes to us in the kingdom of God move on to verse seven he says the one who overcomes now why is that important well we need to go back to Revelation chapter two and three you should know that revelation 2 and 3 deals with the the churches those seven churches that are in exile why is that important outside of where God wants them to be this whole book talks about why and how we can get back to where God wants us to be where's that in his will what does that mean in his kingdom what is center to his kingdom his throne we're gonna see that as we press on next week and in the next month concerning the New Jerusalem at the center is that same word the throne what I said what does that have to do with the rule of God so where God wants us it's to be with him under his rule there's no safer place there is no better place there's no more blessed place to be that under the rule of God so look again verse verse 7 to the one who overcomes why do I say that because to those seven congregations in Asia Minor he says you need to overcome to him who overcomes I speaking here to believers verse seven the one who overcomes he will inherit all four I will be to him for God remember that definition of redemption we find that same thing here but with one change not an heir in his tear evil additional truth he says and I will be to him for God and he will be to me usually we would think his people but that's not what it says it says and he will be to me for a son now why son one of the definitions of the term son from a biblical standpoint is heir so now we're not his servants were that but we're gonna have in the kingdom of God a new status not just servants but his son why we're going to inherit all things all of his promises so the one who overcomes he is going to inherit all things I am going to be to him for a god and he is going to be to me for a son verse 8 but those who are are faint-hearted or fearful those who do not believe notice the connection you don't believe what's going to be the outcome of your faith lessness fear you're not going to have confidence you're not going to have assurance so he says but the ones who are fearful the ones who do not believe those who are literally to work repulsive those who are repulsive to God those who are murders those who are are mongers those who are sorcerer those who who are idolaters all those who lie it says they are not gonna have any portion and what the kingdom of God where's their portion gonna be what does it say he says for their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and suffer and this is what for this is the second death this is what we talked about at the end of Revelation chapter 20 where they're going to be cast into the lake that burns with fire for ever and ever and they're not going to have any portion in the inheritance of God his blessings his goodness and here's the key they're not going to experience his presence in their life and they're going to live in eternity both with a physical suffering that fire judgment but also an emotional judgment that's going to come from that that absence of God see we were created to be in fellowship with God that's why he put us in the garden the garden of God the Garden of Eden and what I want you to understand here is those who reject the work of lamb they're going to live an eternity both in a spiritual and a physical torment absent from God well my time is up until next week and we continue
