Downton Abbey Cast on the Today Show

back now 836 in the emmy award-winning series Downton Abbey is one of Britain's greatest exports these days broadcast in 100 countries and for season three on masterpiece on PBS Shirley McClain is joining the cast in addition that's sure to add some drama are you really telling me that all the money is gone I'm afraid so the lion's share of Cora's fortune I won't give in Murray I've sacrificed too much to Downton to give in now and we have some of the Downton Abbey cast with us Hugh Bonneville Elizabeth McGovern Joanne Froggatt Jim Carter Robb James Collier and Sophie mixture good morning to all of you it is great to see you I warned you that I'm a huge super fan and I will be trying to drag details out of you we could do this the easy way or the hard way you have so many fans in this country and I think we just saw there this is a season that promises to be an emotional roller coaster right here that's right yes well it kicks off with the discovery that Robert has made a catastrophic financial investment so we might have to move house the for sale side is the sale sign is going up and there's an open house on alternate Saturdays don't tell me you're moving into a condo complex looking that way we're looking that way but now there's a huge huge roller coaster to come and Elizabeth as we mentioned Shirley MacLaine is joining the cast that's gonna add a little bit of drama but how did she add to the chemistry you all clearly have already she brings a lot of the pizzazz that you would expect from Shirley she doesn't even have to do much there in her and she also really presents a different culture which is America coming into Downton Abbey and we see her nook against Maggie as a sort of the English culture and interesting things spark from that and everybody's kind of hoping that there will be a duel of the Divas a little bit do we see them in competition a little bit and I just wanna just stay in character no you do the first the first day I met Shirley and I came onto set and she was there with her amazing costume on practicing a song that she has to sing so I walked on set and saw her singing this song and then I was looking after see it a scene between her and Maggie and it was you know it was amazing chemistry between them is just watching these two living legends at the top of their game working together was a real thrill for Oliver I have to say y'all have been in New York City for a couple days now we've seen you tweeting you're out on the subway I think you took in a Knicks game are you having a good time around the city yeah amazing going to the next was so exciting real estate ready what time did you go home last night I was gonna say are you noticing that that people here are responding to you more than ever me we're here last year we won the Golden Globe but I mean have you seen how the series has gotten even more popular people are going crazy a man fell down and worship my eyebrows except for you Rob I mean you were this dastardly character on the show I mean do people just coming up and saying I hate you all the time I mean I love you but I hate you cast members included I've been beat up five times because you're part of this the show they love the show because you're part of the show with you to the matter of your good er buddy they love the show ergo they love you so yeah I'm going are we gonna see any change of heart with your characters Thomas gonna find it you're gonna turn over a new leaf I'm seeing some shaking heads no no he's just bad through intro no no he goes on a journey you might feel a little a little bit sorry for him at the end of the series do you got to weigh in say well I would be remiss and again I I do want to drag out the details but I also fierce any spoilers that will have people with like pitchforks and lanterns at the window here but we have to ask about Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley well I mean are we going we're gonna have a wedding I think we can one at the end of season two we saw that wonderful proposal in the snow and I think we can reveal that a wedding is on the horizon and I know there are a lot of big a lot of big emotional storylines this year what are people in store for I can't give anything away you know it's terrible they'll be known to be a spoil sport here on the program but you'd ruin it for people if any of the stories more the same a bigger and better that let's put it like that yeah well Elizabeth I have to ask you are you surprised at how much people love this series what a sensation has been as the American among us here me too I am surprised and delighted yeah yeah have you guys their lives totally changed through this whole Sophie this experience and well yeah I never thought I'd get recognized on the streets of New York that's a big sigh in know again a change then that was Ben and I have to say your character Daisy is the kitchen maid you you clean up very well is it true that they actually put grease in your hair to make it look greasy er yeah I got it going on yeah they do and they put their and eczema on my hands and all that and close their dirty - no they live the upstairs people who change every 10 minutes we hope there's there's happy news for finally for you and mr. Bates motilal i give them a break okay thank you so much it's so wonderful to have you here so many people looking forward to season 3 thank you appreciate it we should mention it premieres January 6 on masterpiece on PBS
