today we're going to be talking about my experience with the 2022 Tesla Model X that we have owned for over one year and driven over 18 000 miles we'll be covering the good bad and everything in between and at the end we'll discuss if I regret purchasing our 2022 Tesla Model X I'll also make some quick comparisons to the model Y which I also own so whether you're a Tesla Enthusiast or just curious about electric vehicles this video is for you so make sure to supercharge this channel by clicking that subscribe button which is just as easy as plugging in your Tesla first up one of the most eye-catching features is the Falcon Wing doors they're not only unique and stylish but they also make it incredibly easy to access the second and third row seats especially when you're in tight parking spaces they have ultrasonic sensors so they can lift straight up and avoid obstacles that are near the car getting the kids in and out of the car is also a dream the missing roof makes it incredibly easy to put them in and out of the car this is an advantage even over a minivan which has really nice sliding doors that make it also good for tight parking spaces and making sure your kids will not ding car is nearby by opening the door but on a minivan the roof is still in place and I cannot emphasize enough how much that missing roof piece helps when the Falcon doors lift up another bonus for us being able to control the Falcon Wing doors from our phone means as we're getting our younger daughter ready we can use the app to open the door for our older daughter who is raring to go she's already got her shoes and coat and everything on and she wants to hop in the car so as I'm helping my younger daughter I can just open that door from the app and it's ready for her to get in another huge positive is the comfort and smooth ride in the model X with its air suspension the car automatically adjusts itself to provide the best ride quality on rough or bumpy roads either as you approach the bumpy road or after you're already on them the car can automatically adjust the suspension for maximum Comfort or ride handling depending on your settings if you want the most comfort you can set that in the settings or if you want the best handling you can also set that in the settings the car has memory so as it approaches a bumpy road if it knows that road is Bumpy before it gets there it will automatically raise the suspension in anticipation of that bump road if that road is not memorized and the car senses it's very bumpy it will also raise the suspension automatically if you have it set to do so compared to our model y especially on the dirt roads the driving is just so smooth and so quiet it's really nice when you get onto pavement the difference isn't as dramatic but over any bumps or pothole or broken up roads the model X is a clear winner the Yoke steering wheel was initially a concern for my wife but it turns out that she absolutely loves it it offers great visibility and we both actually find it more comfortable than a traditional wheel which neither of us was expecting if you want to know more about our experience with the Yoke I made an entire video just about the yolk I went in depth about that I will put that in the top right so you can check out that video along with the Yoke the model X also features no stocks which might seem odd at first but it quickly became very intuitive and convenient for both of us my wife and I both prefer this over stocks in the model y now why do I keep saying my wife and I well a lot of times for whatever reason my opinions can be dismissed as a Tesla Fanboy I'm just so some other random guy on the internet I don't work for Tesla or anything but I have my wife to kind of keep me in check she's not nerdy about this stuff she's not all obsessed with Tesla like I am so she's not going to be forgiving in those same ways that maybe I would be because I'm a big fan and she actually does prefer the yolk over a round wheel now and part of that preference is the capacitive buttons that are found on the Yoke it is so easy and convenient to just be holding the Yoke steering and oh I need to turn something well instead of having to take your hand off the wheel or the Yoke and reach for the stock it may not sound like that big of a deal but after just a few miles of driving you really do get used to it and it's a great experience another favorite in the model X which is also on other Teslas is the personalized settings you can have so as you approach the car or once you unlock the car it will detect your phone it'll be linked to your profile and then your side mirrors and your seat and those things will adjust to fit you how you had it last time and when you have multiple people driving the car that is a huge advantage and really appreciate it the model X also offers an impressive amount of cargo space with a little spacious front and ample room in the back for lunch luggage groceries or anything else you might need to haul around like all Teslas you can remove the back floor in the model X and find even more space below where gas cars will traditionally have their gas tank and that just gives you so much more space especially if you're using all six seats if you're using the back row like we have then opening that up allows you to have so much more room back there if you need that and we actually have used that on a few occasions when we were using the back seats we had to get rid of the floor and we had a ton of space for everything we needed to store also our road trip experience with the model X was fantastic now I have a whole video about that actually two videos coming eventually that you can check out in the top right that I will link above but I just wanted to highlight on this really quick because it was such a great experience the comfortable quiet ride made it so nice driving all the way from Michigan to Florida the car charged super quickly at every supercharger autopilot made the drive really easy and just everything about it the car performed so flawlessly and most importantly it was reliable we had zero issues with the car the whole Drive which I felt really good about so now that we've covered the positives I do have a couple of negatives to touch on the first thing I want to say is early in our experience we had to go to service many times we probably took the car in the first nine months of ownership into service five or six times so we were going like more than every other month it was actually pretty ridiculous and at that point if you watch my nine month review video I was getting pretty frustrated with model X and kind of wanted to ditch it because it had to go to service so many times well at this point I'm happy to report that that is no longer a negative ever since that nine month video we have not taken it to service a single time which shouldn't be something I'm celebrating it should be kind of obvious for a newish car especially this expensive but I did want to touch on that that we have had no more issues everything we've taken it in for service on has been completely fixed and that has made me really really love this car and really appreciate the model X because I'm not having those little issues here and there having to go to service with the model X so often was super annoying and making me really not appreciate the car but now that we are experiencing the car the way we are supposed to without a bunch of service issues it makes the car that much better so the first negative I want to touch on is we opted for the white seats in the model X and while they look great they can be challenging to keep clean especially with young kids if you're considering the white interior be prepared for some extra maintenance to keep it looking pristine there are no unremovable stains that we have on the white seats but they do take a bit more elbow grease than we were expecting and that's even after I applied a ceramic coating to the seats right after delivery so we can clean them pretty easily but when you have two young kids and you're just super busy it's not something you want to spend an extra 15 20 or 30 minutes doing if you really want the white seats and you spend the time to clean them I think you will really like them but for us especially for my wife she just doesn't have that extra 20 minutes to go in there and wipe up and clean them especially after the kids have a wrong or dry every day and so they just look a little dirty sometimes if we're going somewhere maybe I'm taking it to a meet-up or something I will get in there with a baby wipe and spend some time and get everything clean and they again they do come clean there's no unremovable stains but it's just something else you have to kind of do and think about that maybe for a lot of people it's not worth it and then my biggest gripe with the model X which this is very personal is honestly just the expense it is ridiculously expensive and especially if you're comparing it to a model y while the model X offers a more luxurious experience the model y provides an unbeatable value in terms of price and features of course budget like I said is very personal but when you can get a model y starting at forty seven thousand and then on top of that you get a 7 500 tax credit it can seem a bit silly looking at the model X which starts at 97 500 and is not eligible for the same tax credit if money is No Object don't get me wrong I would pick the X every time unfortunately for us it is an object it's something that I think about all the time so our plan for now when the Cyber truck does finally come out we are going to trade the model X for the Cyber truck at least that's the plan for now if we don't hold out that long we most likely will be trading the model X for a lower priced EV probably a Tesla but if there's something else that you think we should try dry out in our house another EV you would like us to try please comment that down below I am open to suggestions and trying out other options so let's dive into the efficiency and the costs of the model X really quick the rated range of the model X works out to around 102 miles per gallon e and when you compare that to similarly priced and sized gas vehicles they are usually closer to 20 or 30 miles per gallon so the efficiency of the model X is very apparent personally our model X has an average energy consumption of around 296 Watt hours per mile which is actually slightly lower than our model y's current lifetime efficiency which is sitting at 300 watt hours per mile but I do Drive the model y on the highway a lot more than we're driving the model X on the highway but I was pretty surprised to see that when I crunch the numbers that the model X is actually using slightly slightly less energy per mile than our model Y is while our energy consumption on the model X might be higher than some other electric vehicles it's important to consider the size and luxury of the model X when you're comparing that efficiency just a couple of years ago there was really really nothing else to compare it to now you have the rivion r1s and a few other SUVs they're a bit smaller I think still than the model X but some other mid-size electric SUVs you can compare from some other companies but yeah as far as features go the model X is unbeat although I know a lot of people love that boxy look of the rivium so it just kind of depends on what you want in terms of charging the model X is of course compatible with Tesla Supercharger Network and it made our 2600 mile road trip to Florida super easy and convenient we actually didn't really even need to plan we just let the car do whatever it wanted and it got us there really quickly I will touch on charging at home really quick I know a lot of my regular viewers are already EV owners or they know a lot about owning an EV but if you don't own an electric vehicle yet this is something that can be concerning I remember being worried about that aspect of owning an EV and home charging is just a dream we plug in every night when we get home and it fills up by the next morning it's never anything that we worry about ever on The Daily I mean in our one year of charging we've done all our charging at home except for road trips and we've also never had a time in that one year where we thought we weren't going to make it somewhere because of a charge so something like range anxiety for us just is non-existent I always say I actually had much more range anxiety in my gas vehicle because I would always want to push it one more day one more day one more drive before I would actually go stop at the gas station and then I get to the point where I'm like oh can I actually make it to the gas station that is not something I experienced in an electric vehicle because it's full every morning in general of course electric vehicles have really low maintenance costs and need much less maintenance and that is true of our model X as well that said some model X specific features like the Falcon Wing doors may require more frequent maintenance to ensure Optimal Performance we haven't had anything yet but I personally would not want to own the Falcon living doors outside of warranty just because I'm a little paranoid but I will mention that other long time model X owners that I've talked to say they have not had an issue in their older vehicles so some of my costs so far I've spent 203 dollars to balance the tires at Tesla 86 for a tire rotation at Tesla and 115 dollars for a flat repair at Tesla and this is all ridiculous because I will say I could have done all that at Discount Tire which is where I normally do all my tire stuff and it would have been completely free so all of that could have been zero and I don't want to get too much into it now but the reason I did it all at Tesla is because I pretty much didn't know exactly what was going on with the car at those times so I wanted to test a little look at it and then when I realized that was the problem it was like well it's already there they kind of already did it but just know all of those expenses I just listed off I could have done free at Discount Tire I've actually done them all for you there before and Discount Tire does these things whether you buy tires from them or not just keep that in mind so yeah that's pretty silly for charging costs for about 18 000 miles we've paid I'm gonna estimate around 400 that does include the free supercharging from our road trip so I subtracted 2600 miles off of that uh 18 000 miles and at home we have free solar charging when the sun's out and at night our charging is incredibly cheap somewhere around six to ten cents per kilowatt hour so so I'm estimating around 400 I think it may actually be a tiny bit lower than that but yeah that's a really good cost of charging so finally to wrap it up do I regret our 2022 model X purchase it is a very expensive car and I do have to say I don't regret it at this point but I am right next to regretting it only because the price is so expensive and you can get a model y for almost half the price of a model X and you get most of those same features that it has with that said our time of the model X so far has been amazing it is a great car it's so comfortable it keeps my family safe and getting our kids in and out of the model X is much easier and faster than the model Y which when you're doing that multiple times a day really does matter so overall I'm gonna have to say no I do not regret purchasing the model X because the experience we've had over the last year has been amazing although I do look forward to trading it in for a cyber truck I hope it can hold its value okay as car prices continue to plummet but either way this past year has been a blast so while I'm model X may have higher upfront costs compared to other Tesla models it offers a unique blend of luxury performance and efficiency that may justify the investment for some buyers again if you're comparing a similarly priced gas car those gas savings if you're paying that much for a car you probably don't need them but the gas savings can factor into your calculation on purchasing this vehicle ultimately the decision to buy a model X will depend on your individual needs and preferences if you value luxury unique design and a spacious family vehicle the model X may be the perfect fit for you on the other hand if cost and practicality are your top priorities I would definitely recommend a model y over a model X even if you can afford the model X comfortably if you don't really care about all those extra features save the money and get a model y or an EV from another manufacturer of course you can check those out as well they're worth Cross Shopping these days I hope this review has provided you with a valuable insight into the model X ownership experience and helps you make an informed decision on your next electric vehicle purchase thanks for watching make sure to hit like comment and get subscribed so you don't miss my future
