- [Gene] Here is the new DJI Avata. That is how you pronounce it, by the way. I just double checked with DJI. Avata, sounds so (stutters) Sophisticated. And along with it, our brand new FPV Goggles. Now these are called the Goggles 2, which is a little confusing 'cause the previous one was called the V2 so I'm not sure why it's not the V3 now. By the way, DJI is giving us early access to this but they are not sponsoring this episode. But we have Lickd sponsoring us today, which is why we get to license some mainstream music for this video. Up front, we have a 48-megapixel 1 over 1.7 inch but I'm happy to see that we have a 12.7 mil equivalent lens, which is gonna give us a wider field of view than what we're used to. Is this a charger? Oh man, this thing is tiny. So, I just pull this off and plug it in with USB-C. Man, this is nice and simple. That's what DJI does so good is they make complicated things like charging FPV batteries really straightforward 'cause otherwise you need to know how many cells your charge rate. There's also this Fly More Kit, giving us two more batteries. Oh, this charger has four different ports. You just plug 'em all in and it'll just charge 'em one right after another. And, to hook everything up, we have the 65-watt charger. So, let me get this plugged in and let's see what this thing can do. ♪ You wanna dance ♪ ♪ You don't know how to get it ♪ - [Gene] Right now, we're getting ready to head out to Bali. And because we're trying to pack kind of light, and luggage fees, and whatever, I have to only bring one FPV Drone. This is torture because there's gonna be so many epic opportunities to get great FPV shots there so I gotta choose really wisely. I want something that could do a little bit of everything, right? So I wanna shoot some interiors, fly through windows, maybe vehicles, dive off the side of volcanoes and play with monkeys. I don't know what we're doing. Right now, we're gonna be testing out this DJI Avata to see if this could and should be the Bali Drone. (drone thuds and squeaks) - [Gene] What was that? Do you hear something? One of the things I hate is going like, "Oh, I really wanna get this drone shot." And, then I have to go dig into my bag to get all my FPV Goggles out and the controller out of this pocket and the batteries out of there. Here, it's nice 'cause I just pop this out of the top. And then I have my goggles here, and my controller here, and I'm ready to fly. Look how small these goggles are. How sweet is that? Antennas that pop up and down. And, this is perfect because you can get burn-ins 'cause if you leave it out in the sun and then the sun blasts through, and then the lenses laser focuses it, and turns it into a ultra laser beam. So it's nice that they include that now and... Check this out. Woo, woo. So here's the knobs to adjust for your terrible eyesight. And, then here is the power plug. This is different from the previous version. So, new cable here and USB-C. On this side is the microSD card slot. And, this is gonna tell you your channel number, is that it's ultra compact. I don't even know that is, but I want that. What are the sensors on it? - There are no sensors. - None? - I'm not even trying to act hyped. That was just hype. - There's no sensors on the FPV? - No. - This is our future. This is literally the future. - There's no smart things about it. It's just kind of like four motors trapped through like a big ass battery. But like crashing, it's not a big deal. Like, that's not a big deal for it, right? - Every time you do it, my head hurt. I had a Mavic, I flew it in Cleveland and the (beep) hit the wall and it just winded up, looked at it, and I'm like... (Stranger 3 screams) (group laughing) - [Gene] If that happens to Mavic, it's a bad day. - Oh man. - But worst case scenario, I may have to replace these props, but like I can just check and see like... It's totally good. - Oh, that was cool. Okay, if you guys were to get an FPV Drone, like, what would be interesting? - I mean, I would like to do the smart one just 'cause like I'm a noob. - DJI makes really smart drones. It's not gonna be as fast and crazy as this one or as chill as this one. But what's nice- - The controller design's not helping though. Honestly, me, I don't like how it looks. - You like this one better? - Yeah. It's black, I'm black. - Like, if you're storing this, you get to just like bend them this way. Which is cool about like this one, this is a TBS Tango. But this one has like the thumbs sticks down here, so- - I have that too. That bothers me sometimes. 'Cause I'm like, I know I'm gonna lose it. It's like, it's AirPods for joysticks. - So good camera sensor, but a little more sleekness than this, or maybe just not as bulky, and a little more durability than what this has. - Big part of why I can crash these is because they're light. Drop a feather, it doesn't get hurt, you know? But like if you feel this, it's just like- - Me too, me too, me too. - It just bounced, right? - I mean, you boys, you were like, "Can I drop it too?" - We went from interrupting the shoot to dropping this (beep). - They should definitely have GPS on these. - If this can fly almost as good, would you go for this? 'Cause then you could get more shots. - I would because, as a filmmaker, I would wanna be able to go inside the house. Imagine walking and the drone is following behind, you could do that. - Not with that one. - You just get... Get some roller blades and a Steadicam, brother. - And then you just have to be able to fly through a window too. This, I'll go through car windows all day. Because if I even hit the rim, it's just like, it just bounces off. - If I have to choose, then it'll be like that one. But this, you'll make a gash along the window frame and then go rip the seats. 'Til now, these two have kind have been favorites. So this is like Emax Babyhawk. - I mean, stop lying. This is your favorite right here. - That's the best to, like, show people 'Cause people are like, "What?" So I'm gonna try to get some shots here. I'm gonna switch back and forth between these two. This is the GEPRC CineLog 35 with GoPro Hero 10. Let's see how they compare. (Gene imitates swooshing) Imagine if I just like turned into a drone. Have you ever gotten the perfect drone shot? You're excited. Your dog thinks it's gonna go viral. You can't believe it's not butter. But then the audio sounds like- (drone whirring) That's where Lickd comes in. (upbeat music) Lickd is the fastest growing chart music library for creators on a paper license basis. But what is chart music? Well, say that one song you love by that one band you really like. Not so with Lickd because their licenses work on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and others. You thought you couldn't, but now you can. The right kind of music could change the feeling of your scene from being in an old cramped elevator full of smelly people to being transported back in time, naked. And you won't even care if people are laughing at you and pointing at you 'cause you're too busy being a badass. This not your kind of jam? Well, Lickd has over a million chart music tracks to choose from. So whatever you're looking for, there's a variation for every variation. (electro techno music) By supporting Lickd, you're supporting the artist you licensed. The more creators using the platform, the more labels Lickd can sign. Sign up to Lickd with my link and get 14 days free stock music, 50% off for first mainstreams chart track. (drone buzzing) Now, if you haven't checked out their website in a while, they recently reorganized their selection so it's easier to sift through and check out things like their featured artists. And with the subscription, you have access to over a hundred thousand stock tracks where I went to find this background music. So thanks so much to Lickd for supporting this channel and let's go back and check out some of the footage. Now the HyperSmooth out of the GoPro is already pretty stable out of the camera. But I would say the biggest advantage GoPro has going for is ReelSteady where you can take HyperSmooth footage and then stabilize it even further if you want to. Whenever you see shots out of a GoPro that just look impossibly smooth, it's probably passed through ReelSteady. And since ReelSteady is now part of GoPro Player, now it's super easy to just go and batch stabilize a whole bunch of footage at once. So big points for GoPro for having ReelSteady compatibility. Now with Avata, this is all footage that is coming straight out of the drone, but I did have RockSteady turned on and you could definitely see the stabilization taking effect when you compare it to what I was seeing in my goggles which, of course, is completely unstabilized. Now, if you want more control over the image stabilization out of the Avata then you could shoot unstabilized within the drones, so turn off RockSteady. And as long as you remember to do that, you can send that gyro information over to something like Gyroflow and stabilize it in post afterwards. Downside is that you have to shoot unstabilized in the Avata opposed to GoPro where you can shoot stabilized. If you're happy with it, you're good to go. But if you want more stabilization, you can just add on top of that. Now a huge advantage that Avata has is the image quality that I'm getting inside of my live feed in the goggles. Like when I was splitting these trees with Avata, what you're seeing is pretty similar to what I was seeing in the goggles. I can see a lot of details and obstacles and little things that can pop up. But with DJI's older system, it's definitely way easier to be surprised by things like branches or wire. And honestly, it gets to be really excited to think about what we might be able to see and get out of the new DJI Air Units because if we could get this level of clarity and we could retrofit all our old FPV Drones with this new tech and these new goggles, that would be so dope. And right now with Avata, we have 50 and 60 frames per second in 4K. Now, one of the things I really wanna see out of a future firmware update is the ability to get 24 frames per second. And even if that means we're watching 48 frames per second, at least we could just cut that in half and get a nice clean 24. But DJI is usually really good about giving us firmware updates and this just seems like an obvious one. So I'd be pretty surprised if we don't get it. I did also hop the color over to D-Cinelike, which is gonna gimme a little bit more control over the image in terms of color grading. Now, FPV Drones, whenever you're trying to push the boundaries of it, tends to crash. So durability of an FPV Drone is very important. So that is why we brought it to one of the deadliest places for FPV drones ever. (Gene mock shouting) (upbeat music) (drone buzzing) (drone clatters) (drone thuds) (drone buzzes) (drone thuds) (drone buzzing) (drone thuds) (drone buzzing) Yeah, I think it's still good. This goes without saying, but don't try this at home. I would never do something like this. This is all CG. This is not actually... I'm just really good at special effects. (drone buzzing) Yeah, in Normal and Sport Mode, it just bounces off. I think as soon as it recognizes that it's about to flip over, it just kills it, which is smart. See, Manual Mode, if it bounces off something, it'll just keep going. (drone buzzing) Turtle Mode. (drone buzzing) (drone thudding) Hey, it worked. We only lost one propeller. I'm not gonna lie, crashing this has been really fun. Is there something wrong with me? Do I need to talk to a psychiatrist about this? All right, so you guys have to sign these NDA's. - Black people don't like to sign that. DJI, I didn't mean what I said. This controller's pretty nice. It reminds me of the OG PlayStation, you know? (Gene exclaiming) (group whooping) - [Stranger 3] It is sleek, though. - [Staff] That's the DJI Drone, right? - Oh, you've been flying this thing. This thing dirty, bro. - [Gene] What do you mean? I never crashed. - 4K? - 4K, yeah. Like the way I see it, this one kind of fits in the middle. This basically has almost all the smart features of this, where it has the bottom sensors. The only thing it doesn't have is these front facing sensors. You can hit the pause button mid-flight. So if you lose control, you're like, "I don't know what I'm doing." You hit that and it's just gonna chill there. And it'll also return to home. - Is it under 250 grand? - No. So, unfortunately, it's not under 250. 'Cause that would be dope. But this is just a little bit over. The original DJI FPV came with that controller and these goggles. So the good thing is if you bought into that system, you can use the goggles and controller and just buy this aircraft and they work together. - Oh, that's good. - But there are a new pair of goggles which are smaller. - Are you holding it? - Oh, he's holding it, he's holding it. - He's holding it. - Are you tripping out? (group laughs) - [Stranger 2] No, no. You gotta walk like this way. - [Stranger 1] Just walk. - [Stranger 2] It's a video game, third person. - Oh this is creepy, dude. - You gotta follow him, bro. - Hold on, hold on. Stop turning around so fast. - It's so funny. This is like the first thing everyone trips out about when they see themselves in their own goggles. - Aw, this is creepy, dude. This is how a "Total Recall" happened. It's like Oculus if you could walk yourself- - [Stranger 1] Our whole lives living in first person. - [Stranger 2] Yeah, okay. Follow me. - [Stranger 3] I'm in third person. - [Stranger 2] Whoa! Yo. - [Stranger 3] The amount of excitement is just ridiculous for you, right? - [Stranger 1] Hey, you know when you can adjust the camera in video games? - [Stranger 2] Oh, yeah. Oh, this is trippy. - [Stranger 3] That is a mushroom. You are gonna have a bad day though. - Where's the kid's show, man? Stop talking about mushrooms, bro. We talk about Tylenol, Aspirin. - You guys trying to get me canceled? What's that one movie, "Labyrinth" or something? - [Stranger 1] "Pan's Labyrinth"? - [Gene] The creature that has like eyes? - [Group] Yeah! - It's like how you have your little camera bag on arm. - Yeah, like an old lady. - Come on, Drone. Help me cross this street. (stranger 3 imitates buzzing) - Hey, watch a step, brother. - [Stranger 2] All right, that's enough. - Really cool thing about these new goggles is now you guys can just watch. - [Group] Whoa! - [Stranger 1] And it's pretty clear. - The thing that makes these goggles really nice is that we have 108op. So it's 4K recorded, but it's 1080p in terms of what I'm seeing. So right now I'm flying in Normal Mode which is just basically just like normal flying around. Like if you're familiar with a Mavic, this is how it feels. Now I could go into Manual Mode. And now this is just like a full-on FPV drone. So I could do my controls just like that. (group whoops) - Son. Can you record this? - Oh, yeah. It's recording. You guys can see, I'm just hovering around. And this is good 'cause if I accidentally hit you guys with it, you guys will only be minorly hurt Gaps like this is super easy. And then, what's nice about this is this has just enough acro capabilities so I can just kind of do these dives still. - Man, I am losing it right now, dude. Russo brothers are in trouble. Russo brothers are in trouble. - Usually flying down here is really sketchy because if I lose signal down here, then I'm in trouble. But do you see how I lost a little bit of signal? - [Group] Yeah. - [Stranger 1] I saw that. - I'm alright now because I could always hit the pause button. So let's just say some bad (beep) happens and I'm like, "Oh, (beep). I'm upside down." I could hit this button and see how it just kind of recovered itself like that. So now I can like let go, take my goggles off, scratch my not genitals, and then I can get back on and then I can go back into that. - It's almost like a rewind button in video games. (drone buzzing) - [Gene] Ooh. - [Guest 1] So we just took this thing apart, tore down the whole thing. - [Gene] And it just fit it all into here and it works. - And it works. - [Gene] Full gimbal control and everything? - [Guest 1] Full gimbal control, too. - The Inspire 2 just has an incredible picture. Having that all in an FPV package just makes it so much easier to hit, like, gaps. - [Guest 2] Wouldn't you rather be flying this than this thing right here? - [Gene] I mean, kinda. I mean, I guess I would be less nervous. - You can put this one in your pocket. (drone buzzing) - [Gene] Do you ever wish that this just had a pause button? - When there's mosquitoes on my face? Yeah. - New goggles. - It's so small. - Whoa. - [Gene] Here, check it out. - [Guest 1] Just pull it? - [Gene] Yeah. - [Guest 1] What? Oh. - But you can't use the typical antennas that we use now? - But you can get adapter for that. - [Guest 1] This is so convenient. Just having this fold down, thrown in your pocket. - [Guest 2] That's actually really nice. - [Gene] And this cover's handy, right? - [Guest 2] You can actually get spots if you just leave it like this. I have a couple in my goggles now. - [Gene] Just dots? - Just little dots. - Yeah, little red dots. - [Gene] Yeah, I think yours- - Yeah. This one has some at the center. - Is this a touch pad? - [Gene] Yes, it is. - Is it? - [Gene] Yeah. - How did you know? - I'm just like, "There's no buttons on it." - Yeah, I feel like they thought this one through pretty well. - Thanks, Gene. - [Gene] Hey. No, wait. You have to put your face against it for it to turn on. - What? - [Gene] Put it against it. - No way. Field of view is like great, too. - It's super clear. If they could add a little bit more stuff around the edges here, I feel like it would be great little. Light leak around. I can actually I can see it, yeah. - So good. When you're doing this... Yeah. - [Gene] It's not so heavy. - No, it's not heavy. What about stickers? Are they gonna make stickers for this, like different kinds of stickers? That's very important. - [Gene] That's all you guys care about. You guys all have your like custom goggles. Mine's just like just normal, it's got like a dent in the eyepiece. But here's the batteries. - 14.7. So what is that, 4S? - 4S. - 2420mAh. - Looks like this is going - I'm really excited - to fly for a long time. - to fly that. - If you're like getting into FPV and just trying this out, this would be awesome. Like, you're gonna have so much fun with this thing. I'm having fun with it right now. - [Gene] Cool. You don't have to adjust your angle, right? Like if you're trying to go a hide spot and then all of a sudden you need to do a high speed chase. - [Guest 1] Love all like the information. - [Gene] Like all the data. Like you could see your - [Guest 2] It's great. We can see all that too. - [Gene] miles per hour the distance, all that stuff. - So are we recording on a microSD card right now? - Yeah. So when you hit record on here, it actually starts recording on the drone as well as these goggles. - So this is the arm switch, right? Right here. - [Gene] Yep. Arm and stop. - [Guest 2] That's record. - What's the pause button? It's this- - [Gene] That one right there, yeah. - Okay, so that one pauses it. - You know, what's so cool about it? Like you don't have to build a drone, you just buy the drone off the shelf and- - [Guest 2] That's so great. Livestream, it's gonna be gonna be kind of game changer. - Now the portability, the fact that all of this is right here, this small, this is so cool. - [Gene] So this is the old battery for the goggles and this is the new one. The only difference is this notch right here, because the new cable has this clip right here, which helps it just kinda lock in so you can't pull it out there. The only thing is it doesn't lock up here. And since we have this coiled cable, my concern is, over time, if there's a little bit of tension on it, will it pop out possibly? But I guess it's not that much of a concern when your drone has GPS 'cause you could always just hit that pause button. But in a traditional FPV Drone, this getting yanked out, it's like the worst nightmare. Also, we have some DJI ND filters. So this is a 8, 16 and 32. So this just kinda fits in. Down here is where our microSD card goes. It's a little awkward 'cause it's right here behind these propellers, so you have to position that and then just peel that off. And the microSD goes right here, USB-C. And if you accidentally forget to close this, it could flop around and possibly jam your propeller while you're flying. So I don't love the positioning of that. Ooh, just got pricing info. So the drone itself is 629. And then if you wanna get the combo with the new goggles, it's 1388. This is interesting though. The combos actually don't come with this standard controller. It actually comes with the motion controller. So I think if you spent a lot of time flying FPV with the sticks, like, this just feels right. To me, at least. But if you've never flown with sticks like this or fly drones, this is a very intuitive. You just go, "Go." Why don't you guys try? - I'll go first. - So Carrie's experience level with flying drones is, where would you say? - Beginner? - Beginner. - [Carrie] Yeah. - But she's got a Part 107 though. Pitch your wrist like that to turn. A lot of people try to do this whole thing, but really you just need to angle it like that. Can you look straight down? - [Both] Whoa. - Is that trippy? - A little bit. - [Gene] The gimbal can look down to, what, minus 90 controllably. So you can look straight down or you could look up to 70 degrees, right? So you could look almost straight up, but the further down you look, you definitely do see the propeller guards. Do you prefer flying on this or the other FPV kind? What do you say? - Oh, this one. It feels a lot simpler. - [Gene] Let's go full speed. Okay, so right now you're in Normal Mode. You're getting about 17 to 18 miles per hour. Okay, now you're in Sport Mode. You're going 31 miles per hour. Hey, there you go. Cool. Why don't you turn it around and head back towards us. And isn't it nice that you could see the H? - [Guest 4] Oh, yeah. - [Gene] 'Cause imagine, if you were out here and you're like, "Wait, where did I take off from?" Which does happen, by the way. I think the top speed is technically right around 60 miles per hour in Full Manual Mode. And you have to tilt that camera way up and then just angle your drone like this and just go full... It's pretty intense. But I did like a pretty comfortable, like, just a high speed run. And I was getting about 50 miles per hour. But like, honestly, I will say that I kept thinking that this was like a gimmick, but this is the best flying I've ever seen you do. There are a lot of features that we could talk about. So I definitely wanna do like a more in-depth video later on. But, see, this setting? Right here, head tracking. I wanna try that out. I tried to turn it on while in Full Manual Mode but apparently this only works with this. (drone buzzing) Oh, whoa. Okay. This isn't just tilt. It's really interesting because without head tracking, you have to fly in the direction that this motion controller is aimed at. But here I could fly, but then look off in different directions and look up and down. It's actually pretty responsive. Can we do like a dive and... Not really. I mean, no, not a dive. I mean, it's like a fast descent. But overall, I honestly think this is like a really solid middle ground drone where it has a lot of the features I want. It's not necessarily like spectacular in one certain thing, but I think this is gonna be the Bali drone. I'm taking this over. It's easy to pack, it's simple, the battery life is good enough, it could do dives if I want to. It can't do that crazy five-inch flips and stuff like that but at the same time, if I'm shooting for footage, I want to be flying stable anyways. And I like that it has a good balance of being able to do dives, but also being able to go inside and fly around sensitive things. Now, most people have their set of rates that they really like in Betaflight. But here you have center stick sensitivity, your max rate and expos. The stock rates definitely feel a little bit intense in the center, in my opinion. This is what I'm flying at right now. I'm still working on it and tweaking it so maybe when we do a in-depth video about this by then, maybe I'll have my rates pretty locked in on here. So tune in next time. Anyways, this video needs to go live tomorrow. So I say, we end this video here and see you on the next one.
